I can't open my CS2 on Mavericks

I just bought a new macbook pro that has Mavericks, and when I installed my Creative Suite, it wouldn't open because the computer no longer supports powerpc software.  How can I get my Creative Suite to work with Mavericks?

You can't. You need to buy a current license of CS6 or join Creative Cloud. Adobe can#t fix what Apple have long removed.

?  Why does my Photoshop PS2 open on my Mac Book Pro OS 10.6.8 Intel Core 2 Processor but not on my just purchased Mac Book Pro OS 10.7.3? On my new machine I get a message saying "You can't open Photoshop CS2 because Power PC applications are no longer supported". I don't have a Power PC on either machine and this App does run on the older machine with an Intel processor. benrusy

This is not new.  The fact that Mac OS no longer supports PowerPC applications starting with OS X Lion has been known for over a year now.  You'll need to upgrade to the latest version of Photoshop

  • Can't open .dmg files in Mavericks

Upgraded to Mavericks but can't open any .dmg files. Get this message:
Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers
This is no good. HOw do I change security prefernces to bypass this to update software that will work with Mavericks? Right now Toast 11 crashes when I upgraded

Go to: Apple System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General tab > click the Lock > enter your password > select Anywhere.
If you are the only user and are very careful, then it might be OK to leave the preference set to Anywhere. If you are hap-hazard about downloading stuff or other people use the iMac, then you would be wise to set it back once you have what you want.

  • Have Logic Pro 9.0.2, can't open OR update in Mavericks.

Like the topic says, I bought the Academic version of Logic Pro 9 about 2 years ago when I was in college. I never saw any update options for it in the Software Update program, so I have been running 9.0.2 for a long time. I installed OSX Mavericks today (was previously on Snow Leopard), and I can no longer open Logic Pro. I downloaded both the 9.1.7 and 9.1.8 updates, and neither of them will run because "An eligible Logic Pro version was not found in the Applications folder." Is there any hope for me, or do I have to take the plunge and buy Logic X?

I only have the one copy of Logic on my drive. The name of my Logic app after the Mavericks upgrade was "Logic Pro 9.0.2".
I tried installing the Logic Pro 9.1.7 update originally with this name but with no success, then I tried by renaming the app "Logic Pro 9" as adviced by The Art of Sound above and again it didn't work. I then tried again by renaming the app just "Logic Pro" as Majors89 suggested but still no luck.
The message I keep getting is "An eligible Logic Pro version was not found in the Applications folder. This update requires Logic Pro version 9.0 or higher."
Everytime I rename the app the picture changes to just a folder icon which can be opened and all the package contents seen, but when it's just named Logic Pro 9.0.2 as it was after the upgrade it has the regular logo but with a cross out.

  • Can't open a CS2 document in CS3

    1. I tried searching through the forum for an answer, and couldn't find one.  If there is a thread and I missed it, I apologize, and ask that you point me in the right direction.
    Work:
Mac OS 10.4.x  with stand alone ID CS2.
emailed the .indd document home to finish editing.
    Home
Mac OS 10.5.6  with Design Premium CS3 suite.
I can't open a 14 page document created at work (on CS2) at home (on CS3.
I get an error message saying that "Can not open the file X.indd" Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.
    WTF?
This is the first time I've tried opening a work document at home (up to now, have successfully kept work at work).
Is there some sort of special plugin?  I kind of figured that CS and CS2 documents would just open in CS3.
Any help, would be greatly appreciated.

You figured right. CS3 should be able to open your CS2 document, as long as you're not using a plug-in with CS2 that prevents it.
First, you seem pretty clear about versions, but the vast majority of questions like yours come about because of version confusion. Indesign's version history:
    Indesign 1.0
    Indesign 1.5
    Indesign 2.0
    Indesign CS (3.0)
    Indesign CS2 (4.0)
    Indesign CS3 (5.0)
    Indesign CS4 (6.0)
Find out your version number point release by holding down CMD and choosing Help > About Indesign.
Second, email attachments frequently get corrupted. Compressing the attachment using Zip or Stuffit is a good way to ensure that you know the attachment wasn't corrupted. If a zip file gets corrupted, you won't be able to open it.
If you're using a plug-in at work that prevents you from opening the file at home, you can try exporting to INX and opening that instead.
What was your plan once you opened your file at home? Roundtripping is not impossible, but it doesn't work very well.

  • Can not open PDF docs in Mavericks

Can't open mail PDF docs when transfered to DT. Removed Adobe plugins and restarted Safari...no change. I can open then in 10.6 Is this a Reader or an Apple issue?

Thank you Linc Davis and Joe Bailey. The three files in question that I was not able to open on the DT were empty (0 byte). I re-downloaded them, save them on the DT and they opened. I really don't know what took place here, maybe some preferences were previously changed in the reader, but I don't really remember and I am not too concerned at this point. The main thing they work now... so thanks for the help.

  • Can't open InD CS2 files in InD CS4

I have tons of files created in CS2 version of InDesign on Windows XP Pro. On my machine, I installed CS4 Design Standard on the same OS. Now, when trying to open most of CS2 files, I'm getting the error message "Cannot open "filename". Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest version, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign." But no plug-in mentioned in this message.
Is there any solution to a problem?

Are you being offered the option, in CS4, to open the CS2 files with
    missing plugins?
That's the message I get when I'm trying to open CS2 files (not all of them but many):
CS2 is installed on machine nearby. I tried exporting CS2 files to INX on that computer and then opened them in CS4, and noticed another issue: some content was missing (e.g. anchored text frames).
By trial and error worked out such a routine:
    1) In CS2, disable all 3d party plug-ins
    2) Open CS2 file, delete all the content and export in INX
    3) Open INX, drag-and-drop pages from CS2 file
    4) Save as a new CS2 file
    5) Open in CS4
It works, but I wonder if there's an easier way?

  • ID CS4- Can only open ID CS2 files through ID not by clicking

Running Windows XP and just installed CS4 upgrade from CS2. Love the new look, but now I can't just open CS2 files by double clicking on them. Have tried to right click the file and use "open with CS4 all the time" but that doesn't work either. I always receive the same error message: "xxx.indd is not a valid Win32 application."
The only way to open my old CS2 files is to go through File>open inside of CS4. It's becoming a little annoying... does anyone have any ideas of how to fix it?
    Thank you!
    -Julie

I'm not sure what that is, so I guess not... My computer is on a network at work and the IT department is often skeptical of downloading new programs--- is there a built-in optimizer in Win XP?

  • Can't open .dmg files on Mavericks.

Hello! I can't seem to open any .dmg files. Tried with DiskMounter and disk utility but still can't install any new applications.
Anyone having the same issue with Mavericks? I upgraded 3 days ago and I don't want to regret it.
I thought maybe some kind of OS installation 'repair' would fix the issue but I'm not sure if it's even possible.
    All tips welcome.

  • Please Help! Can't open illustrator cs2 - tried all I know!

I'm running ill cs2 on my mac with leopard and for 2 days it won't start up-- I get the "...unexpectedly quit ..." message. I have checked for corrupt fonts and have trashed the prefs folder as described in other posts. It does open if I try with another user acct on the mac but then I have only a handful of fonts and it doesn't solve the problem. I am downloading the free cs4 trial now (taking forever) because I have an urgent project-- is this wise? should I uninstall cs2? Thanks for your time!

    Hi Ovvio
Here's a list of places Illustrator puts preferences:
    /Users/[User]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings
/Users/[User]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Save For Web AI 12.0 Prefs
    /Users/[User]/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.illustrator.plist
try the plist file first, You can trash it and it will regenerate itself. The others need  a bit more care when trashing. I recommend making a copy of what's there first, move the copy someplace safe and then trash the originals. If it doesn't help, replace with the copies so you don't run the risk of losing some settings.
Note, this is for CS3 but aside from the version differences, the paths should be the same.

  • Time machine can't open backups after installing Mavericks

When upgrading to Mavericks the installation failed with a disk error. In the shop they formated the disk and re-installed 10.6.8. It appear that there was nothing wrong with the disk anyway.
Of course formatting caused me to loose all data, but I had made a new Timemachine backup before the installation.
Getting the computer back with old OS and empty I called to ask which should be the order of the following:
    1. Upgrade to Mavericks
    2. Restore my data from Timemachine
Advice was the above so this morning I upgraded successfully to Mavericks. However when I would like restore data (after a few issues making the Mac see the external backup disk) it appears thet Timemachine cannot open the backups older than this morning. It can see then on the right side of the screen, though. Can anyone tell me how to access these backups made under 10.6.8, please.
Another challenge will be that iPhoto does not seem to exist anymore. So if the Timemachine backup gets to work, to where would I restore photos?
    Kind regards
    Morten

Explanation is that Time Machine created a "new" backup when backup disk was first time connected after migration to Mavericks. This backup was obviously empty, i.e. only containing Mavericks but no user data. Consequently Migration assistant would find no data to migrate.
Solution was to go to Backups.backupdb on the external disk (in Finder)  and manually delete the backups created after the migration to Mavericks. Now the Migration assistant saw the backup I created just before the initial failed migration to Mavericks and could succesfully migrate all my data.
I guess you should be VERY careful with what you do manually on the backup disk, but I was out of options and the advice from the local shop worked.

  • Can't open Photoshop CS2 anymore!!

After several months of being a satisfied Photoshop User, I suddenly cannot open Photoshop CS 2. I keep getting the message: "An error has been detected with a required application library and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application." Other information is not given.
I tried reinstalling Photoshop CS several times, restarting, deleting even userfiles, and so on. Nothing works. From the message I'm given I take it there's a specific Windows file that is missing or something not from Adobe itself, which I had before. I did have my AntiVirus running before but I can't find any removed files in there. All other applications run fine, only Adobe seems to have problems so far.
I also tried to follow the Support files here on the site, but the solutions they give there do not fix the problem! Photoshop starts normally, I see the startup screen just fine, but then I get that message again.
Is there anyone who can help me out please? I'm quite desperate.

What does any of this have to do with the SDK? I dunno. That's where the original post was. That's where I posted a link directing the conversation to a more appropriate forum.
And that's where you jumped in to continue the thread with sound advice* like "stuff is broken" and "figure it out." Similar to the Adobe corporate response to this issue: spoken with authority, but of little practical value.
*Unaware, apparently, that this attempt at a fix has been tried and found wanting by users everywhere, as a simple Google Web and Group search shows.

  • I can' t open the finder running Maverick.

Just recently lost the finder. Clicking on the finder icon will not open it. Can't get to my home folder. Tried repairing disc. Also restarted. Shift-command- H doesn't work neither does F11. If I close all open APS and try to force quit the finder it doesn't allow it.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Can't open PowerTeacher in OSX Mavericks

I recently bought a new MacBook Pro and I've been trying to install the PowerTeacher Gradebook Application for the past week. The newest version of Java is installed and enabled in my preferences. It will not launch directly from the site or open after I've downloaded it. The installer seems to work fine, but when you go to open the application it just bounces a few times on the dock, then disappears. Any ideas?

You may have better luck using a different browser like Chrome or Firefox for that application.

  • Can I open a CS2 file in CS4 without any problems?

I need to send a file to someone with CS4, and I'm still running CS2. I'd like to know if they'll have any trouble before I send it.

The Paragraph Composer was updated for CS4. Editing existing text will make it re-format (it might be a consolation CS4's paragraph do look better, actually).
