I can't open my documents on Page 09 (too old !), so what ?
I just buy a new imac and grrrrr

Pages 5 can not open Pages '08 files, you must first open and resave them in Pages '09.
Pages 5 may actually damage files opened from previous versions, proceed with caution and don'r save until you have checked them.
Read the reviews of Pages 5, it is not an upgrade as such, much more a downgrade.

Can't open word documents in Pages since updating to Yosemite

Since updating my software to Yosemite I cannot open word documents in pages anymore. I can open these word documents in preview to at least look at them, but this is not very helpful.
Also, is anyone else experiencing a serious slow down. My Macbook is choking, and I wonder if there is anything that can be done to improve the speed.

Be sure you are saving your Word documents on the PC for a Word version supported by Office 2004 X. The latest version of Office for the PC uses a file format that is no longer compatible with older versions of Office.
PC attachments have icons that do not carry any information that Mac applications use to determine what application opens a document. Drag the document from the email application to the Desktop. Select the icon and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the section labeled 'Open with' select Word from the drop down menu, then click on the Change All button. This should associate all similar documents to the Word application on the Mac. Word documents on the Mac also use the '.doc' extension. If the transferred file does not have the '.doc' extension then it doesn't hurt to add one.

Can't open some documents in Pages on my macbook pro

I'm running 10.8.5, when trying to open some documents in pages, some of docs are greyed out and will not open. Many others are fine. These are docs that are on the mac, not icloud. Any suggestions on how to open these docs? I am running pages 09

I figured it out. Most of the documents that I could not open were PDF's, so when I went to Finder, they were all there and they were all available to open.

Open the email with the attached Word document again. Then tap on the attached document. A menu will appear. Tap on the option that says "Open in Pages. If this doesn't work, try shutting off your iPad and then wait a minute or two and then turn it back on. Try to open the Word document again. Although I'm just speculating becuase, I have never had a problem opening a Word document in Pages and every time I open a Microsoft Word document in Pages, it just needs to change the font to a Pages- compatible font. I hope my solution works, and I'm sorry if it doesn't work.

Can I open existing documents in Pages on iPad

I emailed a word document to myself from a windows computer. When I open it on my Mac Pro and iPad some of the alignments are distorted. I tried opening it in the Documents app on my iPad and it still looks distorted. Is this simply because I'm trying to open a word document on this non-word computer/iPad? Yes you can open it in Pages. You can format it Pages as well. You can also save the document as a Word doc, PDF, Pages or an ePub file.
I take it that you don't have Pages and are trying to make a decision on whether to plunk down the money for it or for another WP app.
There are 6 preinstalled resume templates in the iOS pages app as well. I know that you have already gone to all of the work of setting up the resume in Word, but worst case scenario, you could always choose one of those.
I am not trying to paint a picture of gloom here for you. There will always be some formatting issues going from a Word file to. Pages or any of the other WP iPad apps, but Pages should work just fine for your word processing needs. There are other apps that are supposedly even more compatible with Word files. Take a look here for more ideas.

I CAN'T OPEN A DOCUMENT IN PAGES FOR IPAD.....

In the two years that I am using PAGES for IPAD never had a problem. I think it's a good app. But some few before one of the docs (od 3) PAGES give me a message like that CAN?= OPEN THIS DOC.=....I can't either in Word, Pdf.....Ity's very important for me cause weas taken in the Univertity .
If anybody could help.....???

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

I have a new iPad Mini and just downloaded the Pages app. I want to open a word document from email, but when I tap the "arrow box" icon, I only get a choice to print, rather than an "Open in Pages" choice. How can I fix this?

Have you used Pages on the iPad at all yet? Any documents in it at all? If not, create a test document. Anything at all.
Just tap the + sign in the upper left corner of the Pages app, create a document. Type anything in it. Then tap Documents in the upper left corner to go back to the documents view screen. Tap the home button to go to your home screen. Go to the mail app and try again.

I suppose you might, but probably don't, which is why you are huffing and puffing.
Probably this is about Pages '08 not opening the later Pages '09. Given that Pages '09 introduced many features that Pages '08 didn't have, it is not too surprising.
Remind me what it costs to buy Pages '09 from the M.A.S. to use on as many computers as you want.
Also remind me what it costs for Ms Word, or even lunch. I'm sure you have blown more on a whim than you ever will on something as useful as Pages.

You have two versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages v5.2.2 in /Applications
Pages ’09 v4 in /Applications/iWork ’09
When you open a Pages ’09 document in the default Pages v5.2.2, it is converted to the latter exclusive, new document format, and is not directly backwards compatible with Pages ’09. You would have to use Export To > Pages ’09 in Pages v5.2.2.
If Pages ’09 is running, with/without an open window — double-clicking a Pages v5.2.2 formatted document, or attempting to open said document with the Pages ’09 document chooser, will generate the dialog you saw. It really means you cannot open this newer document format with your older version of Pages. There is nothing to download, because the cause of this dialog is simply having Pages v5.2.2 installed.
You can open actual Pages ’09 documents:
Right-click, Open with > Pages (4.3)
Via Pages ’09 document chooser
Drag/drop Pages ’09 document on the Pages ’09 Dock icon
Pages ’09 File > Open…
Pages ’09 File > Open Recent >

Why can't I open a document in pages on my iPod touch 4 that I created on my iPad 3?

I have an iPod touch 4th generation on ios 6.1.3 and an iPad 3 on 7.0.3 and i am trying to open a document in pages that i made on my iPad on my iPod touch. When i click on the file, it says "newer version required," but when i go to update it, it says i have the newest version available. I need to open the document for school.

Without the iPad connected, open up iTunes on your computer. Go to iTunes/Preferences/Devices and delete the backups that you're absolutely certain do not have the documents. Refer to figure below.
iTunes, select the iPad and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "NO" to creating a backup. (You don't want to create a new backup that does not have the docs.) You will then be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad. This time, say "yes."
Repeat all of the above as required until you get the docs.

Actually, there seems to be a bit of a bug. Encountered this with a couple of files my wife made. The files were set to "open with" the new Keynote, but clicking the file brought up this error. Right-clicking and selecting "open with..." worked correctly. I can only assume the OS was attempting to open the file with Keynote '09 despite the file property setting.
Probably requires a Launch Services DB reset (although I haven't actually tried it on my wife's MBA yet...since she's still "working on stuff". So I can't confirm if it will solve the problem).

If you have already updated to Pages 5.2 on your Mac, you may be trying to open the file with a previous version of Pages. If this is the case, you have two versions of Pages on your Mac & are trying to open Pages 5 documents with Pages 4. Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there then right-click on the Dock icon & select Options > Keep in Dock.
Installing new versions of iWork has never replaced existing versions. This is nothing new. The only thing new is that the '09 apps are moved to an iWork '09 folder if they were purchased from the Mac App Store. If they were installed from disk they should already be in a separate folder in Applications.
