What are your internet Explorer setting set at? See if this helps open up Internet Explorer click on tool very bottom of list click on Internet Options. Click on securty tab set it medium high. Than click on advanced tab. Cilck restore advanced settings. Close Internet Explorer. Than reopen it and try a downloading again. If this fixes the issue stop here, If not you need to check your fire wall settings and antivirus settings if there is programs like Titanium Security 2012 has like parental controls. Or you can do a restore to earler date and time when it last worked for you. It would be good ideal to run a computer tune up at least ounce a month after this fix. You do that in HP Assistant. Click HP Assistant click maintenance click tune up check boxes on things you want deleted such as temporary files software resent open list and so on. Check mark on run Microsoft Defragmenter this will help keep computer running smoothly and fixes corrupted files as well.

Please help me. I can not open any downloads sent to my computer. Every email with a download, comes up with "...contains a virus..." I think it might be a firewall (don't know that for a fact) but it was happening before I installed the Fix-It Utilities11 and now it happens all the time. Can anyone help me? It is probably just me - I am not particularly trusting - I hate "trial period" software. I don't know recognise Fix-It Utilities 11; I did call it up and look at the webpage for it and read the cover page...

In My Opinion:
Whatever Fix-It might be doing, it doesn't seem to have fixed anything. It is possible your system is so badly infected that you are in the "badlands" of virus-ville; on the other hand, the sort of "horror message" seems a bit over the top for a tool that is supposed to fix your computer. The page I read compared this software to Registry Mechanic and that makes me cringe.
IMO, remove this Fix-It software from your computer.
Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features > find and remove it
Reboot
Install some decent Anti-Virus software and run a deep scan on your computer. I will recommend two free ones. You can try one or both - not at the same time; remove one if you want to try the next. I will provide a web page so you can check on other products.
I have used the Avast Free version in the past; I now use the licensed version. We also have the free AVG on at least one system. There are other good products. The point is to use something to thoroughly sweep your system for issues and make sure it is healthy.
NOTE: To run either (any) of the Anti-Virus products that I mention, you MUST remove Norton (if you have it on your system). Norton Security does not mix with other security software. It will complain when you try to remove it. Just tell it to go away and it will do so if you insist. Restart (Reboot) you computer after removing Norton and before installing other Anti-Virus Security Software... Norton is removed from Programs and Features (above).

I think you have downloaded .img file. If you want to install that program follow the given instruction.

Firefox problems - Can't open from Downloads - Can't print - FF will not update and more and more...

I've been having several problems with Firefox, to the point that I almost can't use it anymore. In no particular order, they include:
1. When I download something, 'Downloads' opens. When a d/l finishes I used to be able to run an install or open an image from there, but now I get this error message,
Windows cannot access the specified device, path of file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.
...but I can go to my Downloads directory and run or open it from there.
2. If I go to File > Print or File > Print Preview, I get this
Printing Error:
"Before you can perform printer-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer. Do you want to install a printer now?"
and if I click yes, i get this,
"Operation could not be completed."
3. Firefox will not update itself. I go to About, it downloads the new update, and I click the Apply Update button. Firefox closes, and nothing happens. A few minutes later I click to run it, and it opens with a 'Software Update' window that says,
Update Failed
"The partial update could not be applied. Firefox will try again by downloading a complete Update"
...and that does not work.
I download the new version, and when trying to run it from Downloads, I get the error (as in #1 above):
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path of file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
When I go to the folder it's in and run it from there, it installs, but the problems persist.
4. I go to Help|Troubleshooting Information, and clicking the Reset Firefox button only closes Firefox. Clicking the Show Folder button doesn't do anything.
5. I used to be able to drag a url to the desktop, a folder or even a email, but now all I get the the O with a / through it.
6. I also used to be able to, when I click Browse on a site to upload a jpg or a gif, I could right click the file and open it in a photo viewing program (Irfanview or Paint), and now I get
"Windows cannot access the specified drive, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
I've created a new profile and it makes no difference.
I've disabled all add-ons and it makes no difference (I have to disable them manually).
The problems are there for different user accounts in Windows.
I've uninstalled Firefox, and removed the profile - rebooted and reinstalled it, but the problems persist.
What more do I have to do more to completely uninstall it?
I've kinda saved myself by using Firefox Portable, which I'm running from it's own directory. It runs as it should, but I'd prefer not to have to use it.
If i can't fix it, I'd like to completely uninstall Firefox, and just install it new and have it work properly. I have no (or only occasional minor) problems with Firefox on other computers. This computer is Win XP, fully updated

Safari 6 (7536.25) on Mid 2007 Mini running Lion damages pdf files when downloaded. Adobe reader can't open them; downloaded via Chrome they can be opened.

When I download pdf files using Safari 6, they can't be read by Adobe Reader; using Safari to read them isn't a solution, because Safari doesn't allow them to be printed page by page. The same files, downloaded by Chrome, by contrast, can be opened and printed. Is there a patch for this problem?

How can I open a downloaded Program-File?

I loaded down a Program. When I opened the download Dir under Firefox I can see the downloaded File (with time of download). But the entry of Open is not active and therefore I can´t start the installation of the program.

You can not run executable files from within Firefox, this is a security measure to prevent the spread of viruses. Once downloaded you can run the file from Windows Explorer.
If you want the option to run executable files from Firefox you can use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10902/ OpenDownload] add-on.

I can't open my downloads through browser... HELP!!!

I have been using my imac and google chrome without a problem for quite some time now...
all of a sudden, when I want to download material from the web, my browser has no problems downloading the files, but when I try to open them in finder, they turn up to be "documents" when they are dmg files or txt files.
I can't open either of those files, not even the txt file in programs like bean.
The dmg files just dont work.
I don't think it's my browser since everything seems to work in the brower itself...
