I can't open my mail unless I use the Enter/Return key or go to the File -Open Message

Up until yesterday I could open an email just by double clicking the message. Now if I want to open a message I have to use the Enter/Return key or go into FILE and press Open Message.
The only thing different since yesterday morning is that I decided to turn off File Vault --that process took all day but finally finished and that's when I ran into problems with mail.
I've checked my mail settings and they are the same as before. Have OSX Yosemite 10.10.1 installed.

Is this problem in Firefox? It sounds as if you are referring to an email program such as Apple Mail or Mozilla Thunderbird. As far as I know, you can't open emails in Firefox with File > Open Message because there is no such option.

Thank you for your response. I finally found out why this was happening. It had to do with the Trackpad settings for my Mac. I adjusted the track speed to a slower speed as it was set quite fast. This seems to have fixed the problem :)
I’m not too computer savy so sometimes things can be a little confusing trying to figure out whats what and where to look for solutions.
Thank you

No such problem when I go through Internet Explorer.

hello, there are reports that the foxit pdf plugin is causing this issue. you might want to disable this plugin in firefox > addons > plugin until foxit offers a fix/update for its plugin.

I can only hear calls faintly unless I use the speaker?

Back it up in iTunes! Just make a backup of the entire device but make sure you check sync contacts and the option to add contacts from phone to address book on computer.

Yes, when I disable the conversations add-on, I can then get to the attachment...but I like the conversations add-on otherwise and it used to handle the attachments just fine.

    Hi James,
I am listening to embedded training files on the Quick Time player (I think). They cannot be copied to protect the information.  You only have the option of listening.   I used to be able to click on the Q in the audio strip and it would provide a diagonal arrow and this would allow me to expand the bar to a full screen. I then had the bar which would allow me to navigate in case I wanted to listen again or in case I wanted to move forward.  After my upgrade, I can no longer expand the strip to a full screen with the adjuster.  Now I have not chance to take a break in listening to these audios and most of them are at least an hour long.  Thanks for your help.

Click on the green button.  Or you adjust from the bottom right to fill the window.   With Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can adjust from any of the window edges.  Only upgrade to 10.7 or later if you have read this tip:

  • Can't get e-mail to work using wireless router . . .

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to help my sister get her e-mail working. She is running a Macbook with 10.5. She is sharing an Internet connection with a PC, via a wireless router (a D-Link unit). The ethernet goes from the modem to the router, where it is hooked into the PC via cable. Her Macbook is accessing the router wirelessly via Airport.
She can surf the net perfectly fine, however, she has no e-mail functions. When she tries to send or receive e-mails, she gets error messages about ports being unable to send or receive info. If she plugs the ethernet cable directly into her laptop (instead of going wireless), e-mail works perfectly fine.
Any ideas where I can look? I played around for a couple of hours but couldn't come up with anything. I have no experience with networking, however, my hunch is that it's some sort of settings problem with the router that are preventing her e-mail from working in this setup. The bizarre thing is that everything was working fine a few days ago and then the e-mail servers went down with her ISP (neither the PC or Mac could get e-mail). When they came back up, the PC was able to run some self-diagnostic software and resolve it's e-mail issues, but the problems with the Macbook persist.
We could simply just hook everything back up to "hard" wires through a switch, but she really wants the wireless functionality.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the response orangekay. As it turns out, they took back the router that they had bought and they picked up an AirPort Express station and now everything is working perfectly fine again.
Still not sure what the exact problem was but my sister is happy with how things worked out

After I installed the iLife software, I cannot access iPhoto.  I made sure that I am updated to the newest iPhoto.  It gives me the following message:
"You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto."
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Do you want to quit and use the latest version of iPhoto, or do you want to create a new photo library?
What do I need to do?
    Thanks

    If you have no photos:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library' and start.

  • Firefox won't open PDF's (unless I use Private Browsing)

For some reason, since this morning, Firefox will no longer open PDFs in tabs on my Mac. I'll click on the link (or right-click 'open in new tab'), the page will open, display the pdf interface at the top, but won't load. Occasionally the grey loading bar will move across slightly and stop, although usually nothing will happen at all. If I click on the Document Properties section at the end, it gives me no PDF or file information whatsoever. The most confusing thing is that if I click on the PDF link and select 'open in new private window,' it will open the PDF as per usual - although I don't want lots of new windows open and would rather be able to stick to using tabs. I work through a lot of PDF's at once and having them all together is fairly important.
I've double checked updating Adobe, I've double checked updating Firefox. I've checked on the preferences menu to ensure that PDFs are set to 'Preview in Firefox.' All of these are fine. I've also cleared my cache and restarted everything a few times (just incase). I've also used Chrome and IE just to make sure it's not a file problem, and as expected, these load the PDFs fine. Does anyone have any idea why this has suddenly started happening?

I am not sure why this started happening, however please update to version 32.0.3 when its available.
The places we can troubleshoot is in the Applications menu under preferences.

When I click a link on a webpage to send the webpage an e-mail, a blank e-mail automatically opens in Mac mail. I use Outlook. Where do I change the default to automatically open to an Outlook email (if such a thing exists?).

I assume you have tried toggling the setting in Firefox between Outlook and, say, Gmail:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Applications
In the search box, type or paste '''mailto''' and pause for the list to filter.
Change the setting and OK to save it, then return to the dialog, change back, and OK again.
You also might want to toggle the setting at the OS level between Microsoft Outlook and the native Windows Mail client in a similar fashion. In Windows XP you could use IE's Options dialog, Programs tab, for this, but I'm not sure in Windows 7.
Since one possibility is a problem in your Firefox settings (including the possibility of interfering add-ons), and another is a problem at the Windows level (e.g., Registry settings), it would be useful to try to identify which one it is. One quick way to distinguish is to create a new Firefox profile. It will start up with all factory settings. You can switch back to your existing profile after testing.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
After closing Firefox, start up again in the Profile Manager as described in this article: [http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles Managing profiles].
With the new profile, can Firefox successfully create a message in Outlook?
