I can't open the Preferences dialog in Messages Beta

The Preferences option is greyed out in a freshly installed copy of Messages.
I'm on 10.7.3. Anyone else had this problem?

Did you try reinstalling Messages Beta? If so, empty the ~/library/caches/ of anything iChat or Messages related and restart the computer. If the issue remains, you'll want to isolate. Test in a new user to see if it is something in your user or a system-wide issue. Safe Boot will help rule out third party startup items and the like. If it is user specific, you may need to pull the plists for iChat and Messages. If it is system wide, you may need to reinstall Messages Beta, which brings me back to my first question.

  • I can not open the breakpoint dialog in upper right next to plus sign.

EDIT: After more digging into the issue, I found out that the trick is to click AND HOLD on the upside triangle to access the breakpoint dialog box. See link --> Adobe Edge Reflow Team Blog | Q & A From “Talk To The Team”
I can not open the breakpoint dialog in upper right next to plus sign. I click on the downward triangle with no success. Is there a trick to getting this to open? Or better yet, is there a hotkey?
    Thank you for your help-

Within Photoshop go to the "About Plug-in…" menu item just below "About Photoshop" to find the Camera Raw version number.  On which menu that is depends on your platform, Macintosh or Windows, which you neglected to mention.
Raw files from your camera have been supported since version 2.0 of Camera Raw for years and years, so it's not a question of your version of ACR.  Any version of ACR that runs in CS5 should open those files.
I suspect your raw files are damaged (corrupted).

I've been getting the error message "The disk you inserted was not readable by the computer". I can't open system preferences, disk utility, or Time Machine. I'm guessing it has something to do with my external hard drive, although it hasn't been touched lately, but I can't figure out how to solve the problem. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Thanks for your quick response. I had a look at your discussion... I tried it on a Windows machine and I thought that was compatible with ExFAT?
Therefore I need to attempt to use my external hard drive with a machine that boasts OS X 10.6.5 or above and then it should work?
    Thanks

  • You can't open the application "System Preferences.app" because it is not supported on this type of Mac

All of the sudden my System Preferences in Mavericks has stopped working and I get the error message:
You can't open the application "System Preferences.app" because it is not supported on this type of Mac.
It was working fine before this, and I have run Permissions Repair, restarted to another partition and run Diskwarrior and TechTool Pro, but none of those has helped. Anyone have any ideas why this happened, and what I can do to fix it?

say this and same on mac store when i press app

    Back up all data.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

    4. In case any of the previous operations work but the settings don't "stick".  There are two plists associated with the settings:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.windowserver.XXXXX-XXXXXXX.plist
The first is global to all accounts while the second is in your home directory.  The X's are a sequence of hyphaninated  letters and numbers.  If you can get these removed then it will probably revert to a default resolution.

  • How can I get CTRL-F to open the find dialog?

I am using Firefox V36.0.4 and when I am on the catalog site of mydoitbest.com and I press the CTRL+F to open the find dialog and it doesn't work. I contacted the authors of the site and they said:
"This is a quirk in Firefox actually, not our site. You need to either click at the top of the browser (in some blank area, like below the address bar) before pressing Ctrl+F or press Ctrl+F twice for the search bar to come up in the lower left corner. We updated our Firefox to your recent version and had the same result. If you click the top of the browser first or press Ctrl+F twice that will bring the search bar up."
I'm not sure I believe them... This is the only site that has the problem. I have tried Firefox in Safe Mode, it still doesn't work. I believe they are doing something to capture the <CTRL> key because when I press CTRL+Left Mouse Click on a link it should open a the link on a new <TAB>, but instead just opens the link in the same <TAB>.
Has anybody else reported a problem with Firefox? Any other ideas or any way for me to check the source for the page to see if they are doing something wrong?
    Thanks, Keith

    Hi, thanks for the reply.
No, that doesn't fix the problem.
I've done some programming and have been checking out their site. They are trapping the keys so the first time I press <CTRL-F> it puts a lower case "f" in their search box. If I press <CTRL-F> again the search dialog box does open. If I click on their search box first with the mouse, then press <CTRL-F> it works as it should.
I guess I'll have to live with it, because they don't seem interested in correcting their problem.
    Thanks, Keith

  • Can't open keyboard/preferences in lion

    HI,
I've downloaded lion over the week-end.
Installation went ok but I am getting a few strange behaviors:
1- When selecting "shut down" from my account nothing happens. I have to first log out and then log out!!
2- When trying to access system preferences + keyboard I first get a message saying it has to restart the "system preference" to access the option. The system preference is then restarted (I note that at the top it now indicates "system preferences 32-bit") and then a pop up window says "you can't open Keyboard preferences because it doesn't work on an Intel-based MAC".
    I actually doubt that!!!
3- Last thing is that when installing xcode 4.1 the tool indicated at some point I had to close safari to continue installation. I did so but the installation did not continue. I had to restart the computer and reintall xcode (without safari opened) to get a successful installation.
I can survive with (1) & (3) but question (2) is really annoying as I can't customize my mac.
By the way I am using a macbook pro (2.53 GHz intel core 2 duo with lion (11A511).
    Any help would be welcome.
    Thx.

TextEdit found in your Applications folder will open Word documents. I have the same problem. come on Apple try sort it out

  • Can't Open System Preferences...

    Hello,
I have had my Macbook since early Sept. and so far I'm a big supporter! Everything runs great and I haven't had any trouble until now. Recently though, I noticed that I can't open the 'System Preferences' on this machine. When I click on it under the blue apple icon in the upper left corner, nothing happens...
Also, if I go to the Energy Drop-down menu, I can select the preset energy modes without trouble, but when I click on 'Open Energy Saver...', it doesn't open it, but instead opens a finder window that takes me to the /hard_disk/Library/Preferences/ folder, with 'EnergySaver.prefPane' highlighted. (The same thing happens when I click on the Display Preferences in the Displays dropdown menu- it takes me to the same location with 'Displays.prefPane' highlighted).
The system otherwise behaves normally- nothing else seems to be affected- I just can't change any of the settings that I set up some months ago.
I have tried 'Repairing Permissions' (as outlined in other forum articles) multiple times, and have verified the disk using the same utility- everything checks out fine.
Does any one have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Quasar373

Have you installed any software that adds a Preference pane (Flip4Mac and DivX add new ones, for example)? If so, try uninstalling that software a it may be causing the issue.
Barring that, without being able to create a new account we can try troubleshooting the whole Preferences folder for your user account.
Open ~/Library and drag the Preferences folder to the desktop. Log out and back in and a new one will be created with default settings. If you can open System Preferences now then we know it's definitely one (or more) of the files in the Preferences folder.
This is where it gets fun... and by "fun" I mean "monotonous".
Open a Finder window showing ~/Library/Preferences and another one showing ~/Desktop/Preferences. Move them where you can see them both.
Now drag small groups of 4 or 5 files from ~/Desktop/Preferences to ~/Library/Preferences. After you drag each group of 4 or 5 files, log out and back in and see if you can open System Preferences. If you still can then carry on to the next group of files.
Eventually you'll find that when you put a group of files in, System Preferences won't open again. Remove that group of files and add them back in 1 at a time, logging out and in after each individual file. Eventually you'll isolate it to a single file. Toss that file into the trash.
If I had my Mac I'd see if I could figure out which specific files affect System Preferences and have you pull just those ones. Unfortunately I won't have it for a couple of days.
Remember, if an answer helped you, post back and let us know.

    Welcome to Apple Communities
PowerPC applications are unsupported in newer versions. You can upgrade Photoshop or you can install Snow Leopard in a partition.
    1. Open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities) and select your drive
    2. Go to Partitions tab, press + button, create a new partition and press Apply
    3. Insert the Snow Leopard install DVD and reboot pressing C key
    4. Install it in the new partition
    5. If you want to change boot, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and select 10.7
