I can't play any songs compiled in my playlist anymore.

I created playlists for favourite radio stations. Now none of them play anymore. If I add a new one, it plays. What happened to the previous ones?

Same problem Windows XP. Just recently radio stations in my playlist will not play. If I go thru all the Radio lists I can get them to play fine but playlist refuses to play any station

so i needed to clear disk space so i could use imovie more, so i put a load of stuff in trash and emptied it, but somehow i stupidly put itunes there too, so now when on itunes i can't play any songs because it keeps asking me to "Locate" it, which i can't do because it doesn't exist anymore arrrggh! i can't use any of my songs on imovie either, it's very frustrating. If there is any way at all that i could recover the songs so i could play them on itunes then that would be great-

If you don't have a back up, you have lost your music.
If you have iTunes Store purchases, you can go into iTunes Store and redownload previous purchases.

The iPod backup that iTunes makes does not inlcuded synced media like apps and music. Thes those iTunes are not restored to the iPod unless they are in the iTunes library.
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

I can't play any songs on iTunes. It is not a sound issue. when I highlight the song I want it just never plays. The bar up at the top never moves. Any thoughts?

I just got an iPod as a present (I'm behind the times) and I put songs on my iPod from some one elses computer. The problem is, now none of the songs on that persons computer will play, I get an error message saying, "the song [insert song name here] could not be used because the original file could not be found." My iTunes is fine, but my friends computer is not!!! Is there any way to fix this, I really hope i didn't just delete all their songs (I didn't even put most of them on my iPod).

Your songs might be taking up too much room in your iPod.
Open iTunes, right-click on a song. Make sure the song is no bigger than 4 MB and it's a MPEG file.
Also, in iTunes, click "Edit" and then go down to "Preferences". Click the 'Advanced" tab and then the "Importing" tab. Make sure your songs are encoded using AAC Encoder and a high quality setting of 128 kpbs.
If your song information is different from what I just told you then this is the reason why your songs won't fit in your iPod and there's not enough room.

What have you done so far in terms of troubleshooting the issue? I assume it freezes on tracks at random and not with certain particular tracks?
Have you tried any of the 5 R's yet to see if they make any sort of difference?

HELP! I can't play any songs that are in my library...

Every time I click on a song that is in my library, I get the following message:
"the song could not be used because the original file could not be found"
what do I do? where have all the songs that were in my library disappeared to?

An exclamation mark "!" appears next to each song in my library. This happens seemingly arbitrarily- sometimes everything is OK- since I installed v 5.0. From what I can tell, the song list is not connecting to the song files...I have no idea why. Has this happened to anyone else?

Disconnect other USB devices from your computer and connect iPad to a different USB 2.0 port on your computer (not on your keyboard).
Turn iPad off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPad for a few seconds, until a red slider appears. Then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Restart your computer. Then reconnect iPad to your computer.
Download and install (or reinstall) the latest version of iTune

CoComong A-Z Full versions by JNF Media error, we had buy the apps but can't play and songs at all after update last week.
I try to send emal to seek help but no such email bounce back by mail demon. I write down my contact at deckorea which link from the support but say it korean words must join members. I do not know where else to fins help. I felt being cheated to paid the apps twice and still can't play any songs and my kids love the apps so much before the update.

Can you confirm that Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to Library is checked in the iTunes Edit menu > Preferences > Advanced tab > General sub-tab.
If not, check it and go through the "Add file to library" procedure one more time.

Can't play existing songs that I could play before

HELP - Have been running i-tunes for over 2 years and now I can't play any song in my library that I imported from a CD. They all have .mp4a after them and are shown as MPEG-4 files. I think this may have happened when I downloaded the latest media player. Any ideas please??

It depends on the format the video's in. Ipads only support mp4 videos (and few other very uncommon video formats), unless youre using an app that lets u play other formats. So if the video was in mp4, ull be able to play it, but if it isnt, u cant. sites like youku has got a variety of uploaders that upload in different formats, so read the formatting before playing, just to make sure.

HT1933 My new computer has been authorized, but I can't play any of my purchased songs in itunes. What do I do to play, I get an error message that original files cannot be found.

My new HP ENVY 23 TOUCHSMART PC has been authorized for itunes, but I can't play any of my purchased itunes songs. When I try to play a purchased song in my itunes library, I get an error message prompt stating that the song could not be used because the original file could not be found. When I check for available downloads it states that all downloads have been made. Ironically, all my movie purchases play fine, but the songs do not play. What do I have to do to play my purchased songs?

The 'unable to locate' message means that you don't have those music files on that computer, or that they are not where iTunes is expecting them to be. How did you get the entries for those tracks in your new computer's iTunes ?

You may also be able to re-download them from the store (checking for available downloads only checks for items that have not yet been downloaded, not for past purchases) via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page (re-downloading music isn't possible in all countries). You may need to delete them form your library first (where you are getting the 'unable to locate' message), otherwise iTunes will assume that you still have them somewhere and won't let you re-download them.

This is what I did to fix both the skipping songs problem and the iPod verifying forever & not able to restore problem (because of iTunes 9):
a) I used Disk Utility to reformat my iPod while in Disk Mode using the instructions here:

b) Do not unplug your iPod after reformatting (mine showed up as a firewire disk) - simply launch iTunes ( I went back to 8.2) and follow the Restore instructions here:

iPod is recognized, syncs and doesn't skip songs anymore after that miserable experience with iTunes 9!!!
