With all the games coming out for iMacs what Gaming Pad or Jotstick works with the Imac

Now the bad news. In my "Print to Video" pop up, if
I select "Color Bars" , "Black", or any other option
and take out my bars and tone and slug from the
timeline, the print to video does not print anything
to tape except for a nice nothing blue. I don't
even get my actual timeline video printed to tape.
    Jerry,
You are a genius! Man do I feel silly. So just for the benefit of others who might read this post, I did exactly as you said, and of course when I restarted FCP, I had to identify my Firewire NTSC setting for the drive. This time, instead of leaving my tapedrive offline, I left it on and immediately saw on my drive monitor the video coming off of my timeline.
Every thing works perfect. I now have a clean timeline with just the content I'm working on and don't have to worry about bars, slugs, post black. Just a few checkboxes and I'm ready to send my tapes off. Really nice feature.
    Thanks!

  • Games performance on new iMac?

    Hi all!
I want to buy a mac, but!
My brother and I like to play games like Oblivion, Stalker, Steam-games and other. We're waiting for a new powerful Macs from Apple and here they are!
    Now, the questions:
    - could You tell me about game performance on a new iMac with ATI 2600Pro Video card using or not Boot Camp and WinXP?
Cuz, if the performance will be slow, then we should to buy a Mac Pro, which is a bit expensive
    Regards,
    Alex

The performance of the 2600pro card will not be sufficient to run the newest DX10 and latest DX9 games in the native screen resolution (which is 1080i aka 1920x1080).
So you will either need to play at a lower resolution (which will not look good) or buy a MacPro or PC form gaming.
Hmm not sure if your correct there tank. Acording to the ATI website it can. Now before someone says it I know that the info on there is for the pci express version but isn't it the same card inside the imac?
Edit: Sorry tank just noticed you said native screen res ... I can imagine it would strugle at that res.

    Thanks

    Hi,
have a look at Mac Games: http://www.insidemacgames.com/
As for Demos I would suggest Prey, Quake 4, Doom 3, Age Of Empire III, Civilization IV for the start.

  • How can I play old Apple System 7 games on a new imac?

I would like to play some of the old games that I loved thirty years ago when I bought a Mac SE. My kids loved Cairo Shootout, Mille Bourne, Birds, and the old Rogue (still have the floppy!).
Is there a straightforward way to do that, without violating the Apple license agreement?

Classic Environment was a Mac feature that would let you run Mac OS applications but was limited to OS X 10.4.11 maximum.

A listing of Macs that support Classic Environment
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/by_capability/macs-that-support-macos-9-classic. html
You can get an older Mac at a reasonable price to run these old games in native Mac OS. Beware that some old
games will not play on PPC machines and require Macs with 030 or 040 processors.

  • I keep having a script run when I am playing Face Book gams and it freezes everything. what can i do to stop it?

I keep having a script run while I am playing Battle Pirates a face book game or am on Face Book trying to post something. Every time it runs it freezes the darn game and I have to click and click on the screen before a box pops up with a long string and asks if I want to stop the string. what can i do to stop it from running in the first place ? This is what it says:
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

What is this and dose it need to run or is it a hacker messing with me and my FF browser ?

  • Want to play pre-intel game, got a PowerPC iMac and want to install OS 9, anything I need to know before hitting ebay?

Found the pre-intel machine, but unfortunately (in this case) it is running OS 10.4.11. Want to make sure before I buy from ebay that I am getting the OS 9 I can use on this computer. Saw a reboot set for OS 9, will that work? Or do I need to already have 9 installed, which I don't. Does it matter which OS 9 version I get, or if advertised as for another model of computer will it translate to mine? Thanks ahead of time!

hmmm, ok, need some clarification, please bear with me, not very techie, but love learning.
So I have a 2003 iMac PowerPC G4 (PowerMac6,1 768 MB 1 GHz) currently running OS 10.4.11. NO DISKS whatsoever- someone gave me the computer, it was about to go in the "recycling". (which is such a shame- WHAT A COOL LOOKING COMPUTER!!!) I also have this year's model of MacBookPro and have had many macs, so I am not trying to be an apple rip off- just trying to play a game they have made obsolete. Wish I had kept a few of my older ones...
When I try to play this really cool game it says it that the classic environment is no longer supported. So question time: can I purchase a copy of the tiger os and reload it? I understand that the disks are extremely model specific and apple info says my model originally shipped with 10.2.3 installed, but what about the black retail copies verses the grey lables? And would this theoretical re-install of tiger then automatically include the classic mode, or is that a seperate disk? And if one purchaces this retail install disk, are codes necessary?  I have the overall user password from the original owner, but alas she tossed the disks...
the cool game is Alice: an Interactive Museum and is worth all this trouble...  it will play on os 9. The sheepshaver, looks way too complicated for my level of computer knowledge, but thanks for the suggestions.
"The transcendant world of Alice was created through the cooperation of artists in three fields - the painter Kuniyoshi Kaneko, the musician Kazuhiko Kato and the computer-graphics artist Haruhiko Shono. The theme of this unusual collaborative effort derives from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. Kaneko provided numerous of those of his pictures that have been influenced by Alice's world and Kato contributed the music. With these as his material, Shono has created an elaborate interactive environment. The stage upon which this drama unfolds is a house of twelve rooms that include a gallery, an atelier, a wine cellar and a photo studio, each connected to others by corridors, doors, and even secret passageways. The persistent player will find as well a single exit that opens to the outside world. There is also hidden throughout the twelve rooms a deck of playing cards. On each card is a message that will enable you to unlock the mysteries of Alice's world. A wonderland of striking works of art, interactivity and compelling adventure game is waiting to be explored by YOU."
Your iMac G4 is one of the following three:
Accordingly, the earliest operating system that will boot your computer is either OS X 10.2.3 or 10.2.7 depending on which specific Mac.  Since you say your label says it shipped with OS X 10.2.3, it must be the first one listed.  Hence you cannot boot OS 9 on this computer, but you can install OS 9 into the Classic Environment on it.
Reading these Apple Support documents will help clarify what you need to purchase:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA21153?viewlocale=en_US
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1585?viewlocale=en_US
So while it would be helpful to have a set of OS X Jaguar install Disks in your library, it does not look like it is essential; you just need to have OS 9 to install into it.
I think I made this offer once before...
Let me know if the set you purchase works for you.  Contact me by email; screenname at AmericaOnLine
Is that the "Luxo" iMac G4?  I still have the one my daughter purchased years ago.  The original disk set must be around here somewhere...
If not, I have quite an extensive OS Library from those days.  I'll swap you!

  • Playing an old game on a new Mac

I just bought Quake 3 Arena for my MacBook Pro and when I try to install the game it says the classic environment is not supported and won't allow me to install it. Is there anyway I can install it or will a 12 year old game not play on a new mac?

Just to repeat: He WILL be able to RUN the game on his Mac as there is a Universal Binary version available (I know because I have it and have used it in the week since I've upgraded to Lion). It's just difficult to INSTALL because one has to manually extract files from the installation CD and then locate and install the UB version from wherever the developer stores it on the net. I gave him a link to the application and a link to the germ of some instructions for installing - from the CD - the other bits needed for the application to run.
Here's a little more, but I'm not interested in spending any more time tracking down every little tidbit of information needed for a self-confessed ignoramus (no offense intended) to whack together a 10-year-old game for a brand-new Mac:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-295870.html
"all you need is the pak0.pk3 from your quake disc. put it into the baseq3 subfolder of the universal binary. the pak0.pk3 file should be about 460mb and has all the textures.
you can use ioquake3 if none of the other universal doohickeys work - it worked for me. http://ioquake3.org/"

  • Games on a new iMac

I know this is a serious discussion forum, and having my Mac for less than a week, you guys have helped me a lot. So I hate to take up your time with a trivial question such as: Is there a Mac version of Microsoft Hearts? I have played Hearts for decades and I had become accustomed to playing on my WIN98. And my 6 year old grandson loves checkers. So is there a source for games of this sort for the Mac? I'm not interested in Internet games, just the player against the computer. Thanks much.

    Hello,
Some links to get you started:
    MacUpdate: Hearts (link).
    Apple Downloads (link).
    MacUpdate: Checkers (link).
I doubt they'll have the same feel as the Win98 game you're accustomed to but I'm sure they will suffice.

  • Unable to Play On-Line Games

    Hi
I've been having trouble playing online games on my new Imac. For example I play one particular game on candystand.com called Bullpen Blast. First when I try going to the site of the particular game it asks me to download a particular software (Abode Media Player). I did it. After doing this the game still does not load. I've been experiencing this with other online games. I do understand that many games do not work on Apple Computers but I thought online games are suppose to work.
    Please advise.
    Happy Holidays.

If you want to try to make it work with Safari, there are a few things that may help.
You can reset Safari, which is a command under the Safari menu.
For odd issues, it sometimes helps to remove the Safari user preference file to let a fresh one be created. It is located here; drag it to your Desktop.
    <user home folder>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Online games probably use Flash, so you can try going to Adobe.com and downloading/installing the latest Flash.

  • How can I play a Blu-Ray movie on an iMac?

What do I need to buy to play Blu-Ray movies on my new iMac?

It is in the link I posted in my reply.
A software to play blu ray disk
    You can also try VLC
The new 2.0 release of VLC Media Player says it can handle Blu-Ray video disks. Being free, there's no risk in trying:

I have tried to play you tube tonight on my new imac (it played fine last night)
and adobe is asking for a flashplayer upgrade, do I go ahead with this and if yes how do I go about it?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Apple blocked Flash yesterday because of a serious security problem that is being used to hack PCs and Macs with Flash.
Adobe has released a Flash update that makes Flash work again on Macs. You can download it on Adobe website > http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer I recommend you to restart the Mac after installing this update

  • DVD on new iMac won't play

I'm trying to play a commercially made DVD on my new iMac with Mt. Lion.  The preferences are set to play automatically when a DVD is inserted.  The title page shows up, but it won't play.  When I click the play button, the 'stop' button flashes momentarily, then shows the 'play' button again.  I've tried to play it using menu commands, the space bar and hitting the play button.  Each time the play triangle symbol flashes to the parallel lines, but goes right back to the play triangle.  This is a new imac.  I've not tried to play a DVD on it before.  ANyone have any ideas?

Since you list your operating system as 10.7.4, I would guess that this is NOT a "New" iMac.  10.8 has been the installed OS on new systems for quite some time.  Also the new iMacs releaased last month do not contain an optical disc device.  If you need a DVD player (or recorder) you will have to buy an external SuperDrive (or other similar device).
Next thing when trying to play a DVD for the first time, there is normally a DVD Region selection window that opens.  There are several regions in the world and the US and some other countries use region 1.  You need to have admin privlieges to make the change.  ALSO REMEMBER that there are only a total of five changes you can make to the region setting.  Once you make the fifth change, and that number includes the first region you select, you are stuck with remaining on the fifth change you made.
Now if the region had been changed by someone previously and you are already on the fifth change and the region selected for the fifth change does not match your DVD;s region, well you are out of luck.
You may want to check on the region setting info here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2397
Note that the region code setting is hardware based and will not be changed by even a complete erase of the hard drive and reinstalling an OS.
Another thing to keep in mind is that recent updates to the OS will sometimes give "funny" results when you are using an external monitor (or projector).  Copyright/Digital RightManagment will sometimes prevent display with anything plugged in to the Thunderbolt or MiniDisplay Port.

  • New MBP - what games should I get?

I haven't played a single game on my new MBP since buying it - most apple games seem quite dated. Are there any good recommendations out there? I'm open to pretty much all genres.

whats wrong with "dated" games... just cuz a game is newer doesn't mean its more fun.... most of mine... if not all, are "old" to someone
lets seem what games I have on mine
    Age of Empires 2
    Age of Mythology
    Alchemy
    Armagetron
    Bejeweled
    City of Heroes
    Civilization 4
    Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast
Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (Windows version ran in Wine)
Knights of the Old Republic 1 (Windows version ran in Wine)
Knights of the Old Republic 2 (Windows version ran in Wine)
Lords of the Realm 2 (Windows version ran in Wine)
    Master of Orion 3
    Monopoly
    Neverputt
Neverwinter Nights 2 (Windows version ran in Wine)
Oblivion (Windows version ran in Wine)
    Pangea Arcade
    Privateer Remake
    Risk II
    Rocket Bowl
    Scrabble
Second Life (is it a game? yes/no)
The Ur-Quan Masters (Star Control 2 open source remake)
Beyond that I have a LOT of old DOS games I run in DOSbox... same with a lot of Nintendo and Super Nintendo old games I have with emulators...
I think thats all i have right now anyways... probably some I'm missing...
