I can't properly select text in Mavericks Mail 7.0. Any solutions?

Every time I try to place the cursor between letters to edit text in Mail 7.0, characters in another spot are edited—leading to complete gibberish that's even worse than what I'm capable of on my own. I did find some other threads here but so far no solutions.
For what it's worth, Mavericks seems to be very buggy compared to any other OSX upgrade. I didn't sign up to be a beta tester. I like Apple, but the problems I've experienced with this upgrade are unacceptable.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I've been having this same problem. It seems to occure in both Mail app and Text Edit.
When I have a body of text, and I try to select a part of it, or click to set my cursor somewhere in it, the new text that I begin to type suddenly appears down the row somewhere else -- obviously where I had no intention of typing it.
Another issue that sprung up at the same time as this, was that Mail app will not automatically attach a signature file to my mail anymore. It always has to be manually selected from the pull-down in the new message window.
Both of these issus began immediately when I upgraded to Mavericks, and have even transferred over to a brand new computer when the user account was migrated over.

I can no longer select text in email template or read only field using my mouse in IE or Firefox anymore. We are using CRM 2011 rollup 18 applied with IE 11 and the latest version of Firefox. We only applied roll up 18 in Feb when this issue began.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
(You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first) using either of these. While viewing a page on the site:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
These features rely on JavaScript, and it sounds as though you have scripting enabled if you get (the wrong) color changes. Some add-ons might alter the way scripts operate, so a standard diagnostic to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings) is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode."
If those features work correctly, this points to one of your extensions or custom settings as the problem.
To also disable plugins, you can use this page:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Plugins category

Can no longer select text in Preview

Hello there,
A very annoying problem: I selected some text in a .pdf file that was opened with Preview and I marked it yellow, however once I saved it I could no longer select any more text, it is like the function has disapeared. I even tried restarting the computer, but I can no longer select text in that file. How odd?
Funny enough, the phenomenon doesn't occur with all my .pfd files. I guess it is a bug, but quite annoying. Any one else having the same problem?

I believe there are also other dashboard plist files in that folder (i'm not currently at my Mac so can't say which exactly, though i believe one is called "client"). You could try trashing them (or dragging them to the desktop).
Does the problem also happen if you log in to another account? Create a new account if necessary.

Google 'Perian' and 'Flip4Mac' — these are the extensions that will make QT play other file formats.
However, a simpler solution is just to abandon QT in favour of the free, open-source player VLC, which plays just about everything natively without further downloads.

you can change this in the related InfoSet /SAPQUERY/AM27 on which the Query is based on. Tcode InfoSet maintenance is SQ02.

Can't set selected text in a JTextArea (bizarre)!

I've go this method here to select text in a JTextArea is doesn't work.
Any ideas?? I haven't posted ALL the code because there is quite a lot of it in a number of classes.

Selected text is only shown when the text component has focus. Assuming you are clicking on a button to invoke your code you would need to reset focus on the text field:
myTextComponent.requestFocus();

Can't compose plain text messages in Mail 7

For some reason, I cannot seem to compose messages in plain text in Mail 7. I have the compose preference set for Plain Text, but it still typesets it in Rich Text. Any ideas?

I can't do group text any longer either. Everyone else in my group call can. Some are on PC's and some on MAC's. I am using MAC OS 10.9.4 and have the latest version of Skype. Since I use it for business, I really need to find a fix for this and it seems that Skype support doesn't care. At least that's how it looks in the post threads.

Western Digital have been assisting the users that lost data by providing Recovery software to them, I don't know what else they are doing. Contact them.
And if you are running any WD software that may have accompanied the drive stop now and remove it permanently.

Why can't I select Text box in Adobe XI?

I am SO frustrated. I can't do something so simple as select a text box in Adobe XI. Whenever I try, all it does is edit the text. I have tried clicking all over in different spots of the object with the select object tool and all it will ever do is edit.

If it is going to edit text, then you have the edit text tool and not the select object tool. However, these have changed in functionality between versions. I just checked AA XI and if you select the edit text and images under the content editing tools, you can select a text box and move it around. I think this is what you wanted. You have to move the cursor to the edge of the box to move it.

You can thouhg use the eyedropper to stylize text noncontiguosly.
zoom in on text (so you can be more precise, as in step 4 you do not see hightling of text)
eyedropper click to samepl text you want to apply
hold down option
drag over text to apply

I can't print selected text in a Print dialogue box in Yahoo mail or my bank site. I used to, now I can't.

I am having this problem both in my online banking site and when using Yahoo Mail. When I click on Print on either of these sites and then close the Print dialogue box that automatically comes up, highlight just the text I want printed, then hit Ctrl+P and choose Selection, Print Preview shows me a blank page. When I try printing the selection using either of the 2 printers I have, it prints a blank page. And yet when I do the same thing in Internet Explorer, I have no trouble printing the text I want. I tried doing the prefs.js troubleshoot, deleting everything in that file that starts with print, but it made no difference. I used to be able to print this way in Firefox no problem, but now it doesn't work. Why not, and how do I get it to work again? I'm using Windows XP and Firefox 11.

A bug was introduced in the latest version of Firefox that affects printing selections that are inside a table. Because many pages use tables for general layout (without displaying the borders), this may appear to strike at random.

If you expand your selection to include some content outside the table, then the feature should work, but of course it would include some unnecessary information.
