I can't read - open my excel and doc files ?

since I have installed the Lion I can't read my excel , doc files ?? format is not supported anymore .. I hope it is not just a joke .

Perhaps the document you need to open requires a higher version of Office. If you need a good software,
do what BigGee said, download OpenOffice at OpenOffice.org.

You have several scripting choices within Windows. At a basic level you've got "batch files" - which run a series of command interpreter commands, and have a file extension of .BAT or .CMD. If you just wanted to open a list of Word documents, then assuming that the path to Word is correct (something like this below) you could list these in a file with a .BAT extension and run this (e.g. double click on it):

Another script language is VBScript, which was the example I gave. VBScript is available on most Windows platforms and can be run from a command prompt or within Windows. If you save the text I gave you above to a file with a .VBS extension you can double-click to run it (Windows) or open a command prompt and type CSCRIPT MyVBScript.VBS (assuming that's the name of the your .VBS file).
Other script languages are available to achieve the same thing, including Powershell, however you'd need to have Powershell available on your PC.

PCs can't read/open my jpeg or tiff files

Using Illustrator CS2, I export my artwork as a jpeg in the usual way but when I email it to a
PC-using client he can't see it or open it. Same applies with tiffs (saved with PC byte order). I have the 'send windows friendly attachments' option in Mail checked by default. And I get the same problem when I supply the files on a disc. Any suggestions please?

Regardless of whether the AI file is CMYK or RGB, you can choose to save the JPEG as RGB when you export the file. Make sure it is RGB and it should work fine. Of course, if the final image is intended for WEB or screen presentation, you can retain more vibrant colors by creating the file in RGB.
If you use the "Save for WEB" feature RGB is the only option, but resolution is also limited to 72 PPI.

Can't read email attachments that are .doc files

TextEdit (in the Applications Folder) is capable of reading .doc files.
For the future you might consider using NeoOffice for reading and editing .doc and .xls files.

Opening attached .pdf and .doc files

I am having a mental moment and can't figure out how to
(attach to button) import .pdf or .doc files so that they open when
the project is published. The buttons are linked to files on my
computer...when I publish, Captivate knows the files are there and
tells me:
"The files/projects listed below are linked to the open
project. The linked files/projects may require exporting.
It is also important to copy all referenced files and
projects with their corresponding HTML files to the output folder."
1. How do I export the linked files?
2. What output folder is it refering to?

Make a coma separated file from your excel file.
Assuming that your requirement allows to make a csv file.
This file may be passed as an file object to be read by java.Using JDBC you must be able to populate the data base.You can also use String Tokenizer if needed.
You do not want to go via sql Loader?
For reading the excel file itself do you want java?

which version of OS X is installed on your Mac, and which version of Adobe Reader do you have installed? Did you ensure that all of your browsers were not running when you’d installed Adobe Reader?
To use Preview to open PDFs, download the PDFs to your Mac, and then use Preview to open the PDFs locally. Since you can open PDFs in Firefox, it sounds like you don’t need the Preview workaround.

You mean the default OS X mail app? Try reinstalling OS X Yosemite if that's the case.
If you are referring to 3rd party mail applications, that's a compatibility issue. Some apps don't work in the new operating system. You have to wait until the developer updates the app, or you have to revert back to Mavericks to continue using it.

Sounds like the Font Cache has a corrupt font in it.
Try this:

They are DVDs with video files from a little more than 2 GB per file, were burned in Snow Leopard, with UDF file system, now that I updated to Mavericks when I try to read disks displays the directory in the finder a moment and then disappear and does not display them show them more. It is impossible to read the discs, but only those who were burned with UDF file system. Thank you for your help.
