    Does anyone know of an e-reader app for the iphone that has text to speech capability? I have a Kindle 3G that can read whole pdf documents and books but I cannot figure out how to do it on my iphone 4.
    All of the apps I have found on the App store either do not have the text to speech capability or if they have it they will only read a page at a time or simply read the text you paste into their window. I really do not understand what is so difficult about having this feature as Kindle provides it--though Amazon does not make the feature available on its iPhone 4 app.
    Please help.

    thanks. yes i am aware of the VoiceOver feature but it is NOT the solution to my problem. as you said, it is a solution to a different set of issues. i want the text to speech ability because i there are books i need to read but do not have the time to sit down and read them and have become used to listening to them read to me either by a professional human reader or with the text to speech software on the Kindle.
    I think Apple makes the best audio devices but i am really disappointed in this inexplainable shortcoming. if apple can give us siri they ought to be able to design a nice little button that i can push to turn on text to speech while i am in a document, book, magazine or webpage. clearly it is possible as apple has added the "reader" button in safari to have web pages dropped into the reader format.
    thanks for your suggestion though, it is what everyone suggests but it does not address the issue.

  • I can't read some pdf documents on my computer

    I can't read some pdf documents on my computer with the Adobe Reader X programme.
    Sometimes i can read old documents, but in the last months sometimes is possible and sometimes it's impossible.

    Hi Aquila,
    Can you please try opening this PDF in your browser: http://helpx.adobe.com/content/dam/help/attachments/Acrobat_Reader_ReleaseNote_10.1.3.pdf
    If you are seeing the same blank PDF, then I suppose that you are not having the latest version of Adobe Reader i.e 10.1.4 or it can be that the browser is being used in 64-bit mode. Please use 32-bit mode of your browser.

    Hi snoreaustralia,
    It sounds like you just need to associate the PDF filename extension with Acrobat, rather than Preview. Please see this document from the Microsoft Help for instructions on choosing the default program for opening a particular file type (in your case, PDF): Change which programs Windows uses by default - Windows Help
    Best,

  • Is it possible to make comments or notes on a read only pdf document?

    Is it possible to make comments or notes on a read only pdf document?  Thank you.

    With Preview you can use the annotations feature.   There's a free  application, Skim, that is designed for annotating and making notes on PDFs.

  • Open file attachment from text links within reader enabled pdf document...

    I created a PDF file with embedded sub pdf documents in Adobe Acrobat Pro X.
    Then I created a link to text part (Actions: Run a JavaScript).
    The JavaScript code which is executed by clicking the link is shown below:
    var d= this.dataObjects;
    dd="abcde-123_test.pdf";
    for (var i=0; i < d.length; i++) {
    if (dd.indexOf(d[i].name)>=0) {
    odoc=openDataObject(d[i].name);
    dc=odoc.path;
    odoc.closeDoc();
    app.openDoc(dc);
    Having the PDF file without reader enabled extensions, the link works perfectly.
    After activation of reader enabled extensions and reopening it in Adobe Acrobat Pro X, the same document raises the following error:
    RaiseError: The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a dfferent name or in a different folder.
    Doc.closeDoc:7:Link undefined: Mouse Up
    ===> The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder.
    Opening this reader enabled PDF document in Adobe Acrobat Reader X, the following error is displayed:
    Exception in line 7 of function top_level, script Link:Mouse Up
    The initial non-reader enabled PDF document displays the very same error message when being opend in Adobe Acrobat Reader X instead of Adobe Acrobat Pro X.
    Can someone comment on my issue?
    Many thanks!

    OK, now I changed the code as follows:
    dd="abcde-123_test.pdf"
    this.exportDataObject({cName: dd, nLaunch: 2});
    It works perfectly in Adobe Acrobat.
    Once it is saved as "Reader Enabled", again the same issue occurs:
    Exception in line 7 of function top_level, script Link: Mouse Up
    So... What to do now?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader Crafted PDF Document Remote Code Execution

    Hi all,
    I was wondering if Adobe can clarify when "CVE-2012-4363 Adobe Acrobat Reader Crafted PDF Document Remote Code Execution" will be fixed?
    It's been a pretty long time since this issue was reported.
    With kind regards,
    Erik Verhoef
    The Netherlands

    i was also given the Knowledge Base number 405461 from adobe, and they said that this would definitely fix the problem...AND IT DIDN'T :-(
    see kb405461
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...nalId=kb405461
    and just to let everyone know, i have already completely uninstalled adobe reader and reinstalled it several times thinking that fresh install would cure the problem, and it hasn't made a bit of difference. the version of reader doesn't matter either, as i've tried versions 7, 8 and 9... all with the same exact issue...which makes me think that it might be an issue with MS IE6.

  • I would like to read my pdf document

    I have a trial version of acrobat XI on my mac os 10.9.
    The trail version expired today and is not allowing me to read my pdf documents
    i went to get another trail version of adobe reader just to be able to read my pdf documents but i am not able to download the adobe reader cause it is already installed on my computer.
    please what can i do
    i  would like to talk to the customer service on the phone, please provide me the right phone number
    it is so frustrating especially when you are in a harry

    The free Reader does not need any trial version.
    Open the Applications folder and see if  Adobe Reader is there. If it is, try to open it by double clicking on its icon. If it opens, try opening a known PDF file from within it. If it opens, then all is well, and all you need to do is to change your files associations for PDF from Acrobat to Reader.
    If one of the "ifs" above gives a negative response, please let us know what fails, including eventual error messages.

  • Can't open pdf file with iBook in mac

    It's great to see iBook in mavericks, but everytime i tried to open pdf in ibook, it always open in preview instead even its ibook shelf already, is there anyone out there having the same issue?

    I disagree. I just used this approach
    "Preview is the default app for viewing PDF.
    Do you want al your PDF's to open in iBooks?
    Right click any PDF -> get info -> under "open with"  select iBooks"
    to open a pdf file with iBooks in OS X 10.9 so I know it can be done.
    Phil
    So tell me, when any of this PDF files is open, what app button is just next to Apple logo ? I did it your way and i still can see Preview, not iBooks.
    Like i said. You can store your PDF files in iBooks, just right next to the books which you have purchased from iBooks store. iBooks app can by used to manage your pdf files like iphoto is used to manage your photos. BUT to read this PDF OS X 10.9 will use Preview by default (unless you have other PDF Viewer set to open pdf by default).

  • Reading a PDF document from my browser

    When I want to read a PDF document from my browser (Firefox), the document automatically gets downloaded and saved to My Documents.  Then I have to click on downloads or go the My Documents to read it. Then if I don;t want to save the document I have to do in a delete it. How can I just read the document from my browser without saving it?

    Firefox uses its own PDF viewer, not the Adobe Reader plugin; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html

    The question mark means the computer cannot find a bootable volumes so can;t do anything, That, combined with annoying sounds, strongly suggests a failed hard drive.
    You can ask a "genius" at an Apple Rtail Store to test it but I'm pretty sure the drive is kaput. I'm hoping you had your data backed up.

    Greetings,
    Questions:
    1. What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
    2. What version of the iOS are you running (Settings > About)?
    3. Do you use MobileMe/ iCloud or another server based sync solution like Google or Yahoo?
    4. Do other changes to synced information like Address Book content sync successfully back and forth?
    Based on your description it sounds like you have a 1 way sync issue.  Events sync fine between the iOS devices and fine from the computer to the iOS devices but not from the iOS devices to the computer.
    Try:
    Backup your computer and iOS devices before doing anything else:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
    Ensure all the devices in use are fully up to date: Apple > Software Update / Settings > General > Software Update
    Make separate backups of critical data:
    Backup your computer Addressbook: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=AddressBook/4.0/en/ad961.html
    Backup your computer iCal: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2966
    Reset syncing on your Mac: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
    Reply back if that does not resolve your issue.
    Hope that helps.

    Greetings jjakri,
    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
    It sounds like you have a PDF saved on iCloud Drive and would like to view that on your iPad. To view a PDF on your iPad, you would either need to sync from your computer view it from an email attachment. For more information on these processes, please refer to the attached article.

    Just got my Mac air and i would like to make a file to store some web addresses for my new business with rodan and fields and I can't do it. Made the file but i cant copy and paste the web addresses in the file to save them. Please help and thank you.

    Yes - well you have to make the file in a word processing Application.
    You could use TextEdit (it's free) Pages (words only), or Numbers (data base) (they are part of iWorks - and may or may not be free (included) on your machine.  You could use MS Office (it is not free) You could use any Open source word processor that plays well with Office (NeoOffice, StarOffice) they are free.
    That's how you create content and copy/paste URLS. Then you save the file to the desktop. If you are going to make more than one file... you make a folder on the desktop and save, or drag the file(s) into it.
    You attach it to your e-mail client which will compress it and e-mail it. An excellent reference is to use Help, from the menu bar, also from inside any application. From your library or book store the OS X for Dummies has a lot of useful information (you don't read it cover to cover but look up chapters about what you'd like to do)
    You can also make appointments at your local Apple store for individualized help (if a store is nearby)
