I've had all kinds of trouble keeping my iTunes software current over the past year, but have found the easiest way to remedy the issue is to simply download the latest version of iTunes as though I am a first-time user and then just install it into the directory my current version of iTunes is using. Doing this has allowed me to update my software without losing any of my media/data. Hope this helps! Best of luck!!!

    paul dave,
to reïnstall Mavericks on your 13-inch Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, you can try booting into Recovery mode by holding down ⌘R as your MacBook Pro starts up. Eventually it will show an OS X Utilities menu on the desktop; select Reïnstall OS X from that menu, and follow the instructions which it provides to reïnstall it onto its internal disk.

  • I can't load maverick because time machine is on the drive?

I can't load Mavericks because a drive has Time Machine - can someone help

1 - you are fine for now but willneed to do something soon
2 - you can not backup up a 320 GB hard drive to a 320 BG hard drive using Time Machine - TM needs more space
3 - my suggestion is to get at least a 1TB external hard drive (they are cheap - often less than $100) formatted Mac OS estended (journaled) and use it for backup then once that is in place use the 320 GB external hard drive for yoru iphoto library -
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • Problems with mail and Mac App Store, can't reinstall mavericks.

I have a 2012 Macbook Air. A while ago, I started getting this message when I tried to open mail.
Also, when I try to open the mac app store, it looks like this regardless of the tab I choose.
First, I tried backing everything up through time machine and restoring my mac, but that did nothing. Next, I tried repairing the disk through recovery mode, but it said everything was ok. Lastly, I tried reinstalling Mavericks through recovery mode, but I got a message saying "OS X Mavericks failed to download. Use purchases page to try again." Of course, I can't use the purchases page because it won't load . The nearest Apple store is 2 hours away, so I'd really like to avoid visiting one, if possible. I would be grateful beyond words for any help. Thanks in advance.

Just to confirm, you can boot into the Recovery Drive by holding down Command R when restarting.
When you select to reinstall OS X, what happens?
    Fix for missing MAS
It's possible #1 will do the trick, but you might need to do the additional steps in Keychain access.
    1.  Delete the files /var/db/crls/crlcache.db and /var/db/crls/ocspcache.db. These can be found using Finder’s Go >; Go To Folder menu (Cmd + Shift + G). This resets the cache of accepted certificates in the system. It doesn’t remove them, it just forces the system to rebuild the caches upon restart.
    2.  Open Keychain Access (/Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access). Select Certificates in the Category picker on the left side. In the search bar, type in the word Class. Look through that list, and find any certificates that have a blue + symbol over their icon. These are the ones you need to modify.
Select one that has a blue +, and hit Command + I. Click the disclosure triangle beside the “Trust” list to show the list of permissions. Now, what we need to do is to set this certificate to use the system defaults. However, for some reason, when you select it, it doesn’t save. So what you need to do is this. Under “Trust”, where it says “Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)”, change the dropdown menu to say “No Value Specified”. Then, close the window. It will ask for your administrator permissions. Then, open the info pane for that certificate again. Under “Trust” again, now set the dropdown that says “When using this certificate:” to say “Use System Defaults”. You can then close out of the info pane, and enter your password again. Do this for any of the certificates that have a blue + on their icon. There should only be one or two at most.
(Note: I had to toggle the settings before it would stick)
    Restart your system.

  • How can i reinstall Mavericks onto my computer?

My computer has been laggy and super sluggish for some time. Found that it was due to a program that my father had used on it called Carbonite before he gave the cpu to me. Went to the ends of the earth to delete it, couldn't, so decided to erase my harddrives and just reinstall OSX back onto it.
However, when i would reboot and do the command - R thing after the computer would chime and try to erase everything on my harddrives it was saying that it couldn't unmount. (It was hard drive called hitachi with a bunch of random numbers and letters after it with a partitioned harddrive underneath it, that was my Macintosh HD). looked up some stuff on the forums, found some other people having similar problems, so i tried what they did. (sudo mdutil -a -i off). Went back to disk utilities after another reboot and tried to erase it, no luck. Went into the partitioned Macintosh HD and tried that and it deleted everything. Figuring everything was cool i did the terminal command (sudo mdutil -a -i on) . I tried to reinstall Mavericks from this main menu, (THIS IS WHERE THE BIG PROBLEM IS!) and it says that it is temporarily unavailable.
I don't know if that is because of anything i did before, i have the cpu connected to the internet fine, i have it plugged in. Do you know of why it would say this? is there any way to get around this?
CPU - Macbookpro 2009 17 inches 8gb of memory, don't know mnuch else about it. storage - 320 GB available right now, it is basically blank. Currently running OSX 10.9 - Mavericks

  • Can't reinstall Mavericks since there's no option for disk selection

I'm trying to reinstall Mavericks through the Recovery Utilities. When asked to select a disk, I don't get any option. It's just blank. I tried doing the same through Internet Recovery. This started last night when I got the whole grey screen issue. I've already created a back up image using Disk Utility but I was hoping to be on the safer side of things and not do a clean reinstall and delete all my data. I don't get any message or anything. If I plug in an external hard drive, it says I can install my OS on to it but I'm not getting my actual hard drive as an option. I've been looking for a possible solution for a couple of hours now and I couldn't find anything. Please help if you can! I shall be eternally grateful.

  • Can not start Mavericks because of Time Mashine Backups on the Drive

I want to update OS Lion with Mavericks. But if I try to start it i got the answer that i can not use my drive for that, because it was used for Time Mashine backups before. I never wanted to use my drive for those backups. I got an second drive for them. How do i find this backups and put them in the Basked so i can start Mavericks

If you have a good time Machine Backup of your drive on which you want to upgrade to Mavericks, one option is erase the drive and install a clean installation of Mavericks. This will erase the designated drive and overwrite it, so please ensure you have a good backup or two. Once you have a clean installation, you can restore  from the latest TM backup of your drive, what you need.
Your Mac internal drive is usually never used for TM backups. What type of Mac year/model do you have? Do you use an external drive for TM backups? During the installation, please ensure you are pointing to the correct drive.

  • Can't install Mavericks because Flash Storage Update 1.1 needed

Pretty obvious, I need to first install the Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1 before I can install Mavericks.  Problem is, the firmware update won't show up no matter how many times I press the Update button.
    Anyone else facing this problem?

You need to verify that your SSD isnt corrupt:
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbookair-flashdrive/
choose the MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1. The firmware update will test your drive to see if it is affected. You will be directed back to this page for next steps if needed.

  • Can you reinstall OS X Mavericks without losing data

I think something happened to my operating system.  I had to reset all permissions using the disk utility and now somethings just don't work right.  For example:  I can open system preferences, and when I click on iCloud, it says "loading" and then hangs up.
Can I reinstall Mavericks by downloading a copy from the app store and if so, will i lose any data?
    Thanks

    Hi RevRemM,
I'm not sure this can help but is it possible that you went over the limit of the iCloud data usage? I'm a bit old school but if you reinstall the OS be sure to backup every thing just incase of a problem. I've done a clean install a month ago and everything went perfect even with all my password and setting, since all my document from none apple apps are well clasified elsewhere no issue here. All was sync on the iCloud, thing is if you're having problem with iCloud my guess is that you verify if your material is on the cloud looking at icloud.com. You'll have to redo all your setting but all your document will be intact.
But yes you can reinstall over your actual system but a clean install is alway a bit cleaner.
    Hope it help...

  • Can't reinstall, can't uninstall (iTunes)

Clicking on the iTunes icon doesn't launch iTunes, Windows says it doesn't exist! (oddly enough, clicking on a song file does launch iTunes, so how can it "not exist"? Stupid Windows...)
So I tried reinstalling the latest version of iTunes (which I already have, but it "doesn't exist" >_> )
Windows can't reinstall it because it says it can't uninstall the old version.
Also, the "Add or Remove Programs" can't uninstall iTunes because it can't find some .msi file, which I have no idea what it's talking about.
Here are some screen shots to help.

With that one, let's try the following procedure.
First, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. If it goes, good. If it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to iTunes.
Next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. Use it to clear any existing iTunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC. (Launch Windows Installer CleanUp, find any iTunes and/or QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.)
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of any leftover iTunes and QuickTime program files:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
