I can´t rescan for software updates with wmic command

Hi guys,
I read in all the sites that to install all updates I need to run a command, but when I try to scan for software updates both a OSD task as from a command line on a machine with installed client gives me an error: Modifier Verb is invalid. Anyone know
why? Is there any requirement to launch this command?

Since upgrading to Leopard, can't check for software updates or iTunes stor

since upgrading to Leopard, i can't get software upgrades. I get error messages "software update can't connect to the update server. make sure you're connected to the internet, then try again. software update can't check for updates because of a network problem." My network connections are fine.
Also get "itunes could not connect to the itunes store. the network connection was refused. make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again." when I try to go to itunes store. Again, my network connections are fine.

the solution is to use Little Snitch Configuration.app, which monitors online activity and gives option to allow/deny access of a given program.

I'm running Lion on a Late 2008 MacBook Air. With no other applications running, I can no longer Check for Software Updates. It gets abut half way through the checking process and then freezes. The MBA passes Disk Utility. Thoughts?

How long do you leave it?
Mine can sometimes sit for quite a while (maybe 10 minutes??) before it finally finishes.
You could look at the relevant logs via Console (Utilities folder) to see if Software Update is complaining about anything.

What is the best solution to manage these devices for software updates, apps? This is probably a common problem with families wanting to share apps and music without realizing the issues created by this approach. As it stands today... the first (primary) iPhone associated with the iTune acct has been updated with the latest software version 5.1.1 and sync'd up with all the apps, music, etc from the one iTune acct, while the other two iPhones are still running on the original software version 4.0.2 and are experiencing problems now. I was advised by AT&T back in January that it would be necessary to setup separate iTunes accts for the second and third iPhones in order to receive system updates. The problem would be how to keep all the apps, etc from being deleted off the second and third phones that were originally loaded from the one iTunes acct. Since this AT&T advice was prior to iCloud coming out, would iCloud be a better solution or at least part of the solution? I really don't yet understand how iCloud works. If you are using iOS 4 (or earlier) there is no Software Update in Settings. That feature was first added in iOS 5.
To update you will have to connect your iPad to iTunes on a computer (preferably the one you sync with and backup to).

Unless you have a backup from which you can restore, yes you will lose all of your data and settings.
You should be able to sync your content back to the iPad if you have been syncing with iTunes all along. If you don't sync with iTunes, you can download much of your paid content again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID. This explains downloading past purchases.

Unfortunately, at this point, you must restore the device before you can move on. There is nothing you can do to avoid it now.

It sounds like you are unable to download the iOS 8.0.2 update either, over the air, or using iTunes. If you are updating the software on your phone in Settings > General > software update I would recommend starting with this article:

If you are getting a specific error number, the following article will help you get that resolved:

I'm trying to dual boot Lion and Wind 7 on different HD but when I ran the bootcamp assistance for software update I get an error that it can't download from the server.
I also try without downloading the software and do the installation but it fail. It seem that this bootcamp is giving problem so I revert back to SN leopard and it does the same. Why can't the bootcamp assistance update the software, is it something that I did wrong or my system is not supporting dual booting.
Here is my spec
Apple Mac Pro "Quad Core" 2.66

MacPro1,1 has EFI32 and does not support Windows 7 very well, can't boot 64-bit, can't use all your RAM.
There have always been trouble and issues, ways around those, but a big PITA too.

Nothing to do with Lion actually. Other than downloading drivers from Apple servers has been mostly hit or miss, with miss being 90%.
I have rebuned the DVD (make a new ISO image using Imgburn etc) but now I just install Windows on PC then move the drive to the Mac. A lot easier.
Without 64-bit you can't use more than 1.9GB RAM. And you need Windows 7 Pro to use both processors.

Your purchases are tied to your Apple ID. If you bought all of the books with the old ID then AFAIK you will have to continue to use that ID in order to continue to sync those books to the iPad.
You have to update the app with the old ID so I don't see how you could keep the books with the new ID. Maybe I am wrong about this, but someone else will chime in I'm sure and correct me if I am wrong.

Software can't check for an update because of a network problem

Since I updated to Lion I keep getting this http://grab.by/cKz4 [Software can't check for an update because of a network problem window] everytime I click on Software update in finder. Also I get the same window when I try to open the App Store app.... my internet connection works fine and I previously updated with the direct stand alone downloads from the Apple site.
I downloaded the new 10.7.2 like this as well as the iphoto update.
Any ideas why this is happening?

just did a bit of a search and discovered that it was Little Snitch that was the problem.... you have to update to the latest version [or switch it off for software before using software update]

Don't panic. OS X 10.5.8 is the most popular PowerPC OS out there. People run it everyday without security breaches, including myself. It isn't Windows!
If you're really that worried, I highly recommend Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition. Supports PowerPC & Intel and Mac OS X 10.4-10.7.

If it's not available within Settings->General->Update, have patience. The Apple servers in your area don't have it for your region yet.
