I can't restart onto the Mac side

I'm on the Boot Camp control panel, but it's only displaying the brightness. I can't find the Mac startup disk anywhere.

Restart your Mac holding the X key while your iMac is starting and OS X should start up automatically. Another way is to hold the Option (Alt) key while your computer is starting and choose "Macintosh HD". If you don't see it after holding "Macintosh HD", how many options do you see? It's possible that you erased OS X by mistake

Install VMware Fusion and then you'll be able to save to the Mac side from Windows. That's the way my MacPro is configured and even though I'm a Mac newbie, I've had no problems so far.
Note that this is very different than the MacDrive solution. If you are currently running BootCamp, that means you restart the Mac in Windows and OS X is not running, and you are using MacDrive to see the Mac disk. On the other hand if you are running VMWare Fusion, you are actually running the Mac in OS X the whole time and running Windows in virtualization within it, using a folder sharing feature to see the contents of the other operating system. It takes a lot more RAM to use virtualization because you are running 2 operating systems at the same time.
I do something similar to VMWare Fusion. I run Parallels Desktop because I want simultaneous access to both Mac OS X and Windows, and I use Parallels' Folder Sharing feature to see Mac folders.
Virtualization (running Windows inside OS X) is slightly slower and less compatible than Boot Camp (running Windows exclusively), so be aware that if you use the VMWare or Parallels solution, you are implementing a more radical workflow change than just reading Mac disks.

  • My MacBook Pro won't boot on the Mac side I get the gray screen and then halfway through the bar loading it turns off?

My MacBook Pro was downloading apps from iTunes and I shut the computer down at my I laws house or so I thought?  When I pulled the computer out of my backpack it was still on?  I tried to login and it kept spinning so I turned it off and now I only get a gray screen.  I can boot it in the windows side and have an external hard drive with time machine backup on it but don't know how to load it without getting onto the Mac side?
    Please help!

  • HT1338 I have WIndows on my MACbook Pro which opens when I turn on the laptop.  I can't remember what buttons to push to get back to the Mac side.  Can Anyone help me remember that?

I have a Macbook Pro that has Windows loaded.  I use that most often and it opens immediately upon opening the computer.  I can't remember how to get back to the Mac side of the computer and want to begin to use it as well.  Can anyone help me remember the buttons to push ?
    Thank you

Hold down the Option key when starting up, or restarting. You'll be presented with the Startup Manager, which is a simple graphic of the drives you can boot to. Double click the drive which has OS X on it. Once in OS X, go to the System Preferences and click on Startup Disk. Choose the drive you always want the Mac to boot to first.

  • My MacBook pro will only load in safe mode with blue screen then freeze, but I can boot windows up fine and access all info on the mac side. Can anyone help?

    Hi all,

I tried to restart but it had frozen, so I turned off the computer by the power buttton. Now it won't boot up, it justmfreezes with a blue screen in safe mode. I have tried booting isank blue user mod and running  /sbin/fsck -fy and a couple of other suggestions from various discussion boards but nothing works. I just tried booting up in windows and it works fine, with access to the mackintosh HD.
Any ideas on how to fix the mac side??
    Thanks in advance!

  • I am new to Mac Pro but am purchasing one online.  can anyone tell me how to get the information from my Toshiba onto the Mac.  there are no stores in the state I live in.  Do I need to find a location and will they do a transfer from my I Tunes etc?

I am new to Mac Pro and am purchasing one online  tonight.  Can anyone tell me how to get my information - Itunes, photos, and videos transferred onto the Mac from my Toshiba.  the state I live in doesn't have an Apple store but I could take it to Minneapolis when I go.  Any ideas where to begin?

You might profit from a visit to a Minneapolis Apple store. With a brand new Mac, I think they will be most helpful - not just with transferring files, but with other advice as well. And I strongly recommend you invest in a back up drive. The Apple folk can help with that as well.

  • HT201269 I have a brand new mac book pro. I want to get everything from my iPhone onto the mac book music, pics etc. I'm worried if I plug my phone into the mac book I will loose everything on it , as the mac book has literally nothing on it. How can I get

I have a brand new mac book pro, I want to plug my iPhone into it & transfer everything from it onto the mac book, pics, music etc. I'm worried if I plug my phone into the Computer I will loose everything. How can I make sure this doesn't happen?

When you plug your iPhone to Mac,click the Summary button and select “Manually manage music and videos".Then iTunes would never delete your original music.
The most easy way to solve your problems is to move your music to your new Mac.Please refer to this article from Apple.com

  • I have a macbook and it is a dual boot system, I would like to be able to see the mac side of the system on a larger monitor.  I can hook to a hdmi cable and see the pc side, but not the mac side, any suggestions?

I have a macbook that I bought second hand.  The mac has a dual boot system with bootcamp on one side and snow leopard on the other.  I would like to be able to hook to a larger hdmi monitor so that in both systems I could see better since on the leopard side the computer has PS4.  I have purchased the dvi to HDMI accessory and purchased the HDMI to DVI cable, and can see fine on the bootcamp side, but nothing on the leopard side.  Could somebody help me with configuring things so that it will see both side?
Also on a minor note, I need to purchase a new battery for this item and don't know which one to purchase.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially with the display/monitor issue.
    Thanks Sue
ps sorry but the operating system is OS X

When you try to use the Mac side on your external monitor do you get a blank screen or do you see the aurora background?
It would help to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

  • Fusion 4.1.2.  After install can no longer print on the Mac side.

    Version:1.0 StartHTML:0000000167 EndHTML:0000003793 StartFragment:0000000475 EndFragment:0000003777
    Greetings,
I'm using a MacBook Pro running OSX SL at the most current level.
I upgraded from Fusion 3 to Fusion 4 (uninstalled 3 first then installed 4) after which I did the update to Fusion 4.1.2 which appeared to run fine.
Being I'm new to the Mac I installed Fusion because I need Windows-XP.
Prior to the installation of Fusion I spent 2 weeks trying to get my printers working just on the Mac side without Fusion.  I'm using an HP Deskjet 5850 (5800 series) printer which worked just fine.  The printer is an IP printer at IP address 192.168.1.11 and can be pinged from both the Mac side and the Windows-XP side. Before Fusion there wasn't any issue printing on the Mac side.
After Fusion installation I didn't have any issues printing on the Windows side.
Now with Fusion installed I can still print on the Windows side but not on the Mac side.
All settings are as normal with printer sharing.
When trying to print on the Mac side I see the printer queue for the HP pop up and it says 'waiting to connect' to 192.168.1.11.
I tried a dozen different settings non of which worked.
I switched from a NAT connection to a Bridged connection for Windows but still the same result, no printing from the Mac side.
Is there a problem with this release of fusion or is it somewhere in my system settings?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • How can I open and copy files on the win side from the  mac side?

I am working on the mac side and I need to be able to copy files from the mac side that I create over to the win side.  I can open and view win files when I am booted to Snow Leopard, but I cant copy files to the win side.  I think Macdrive does the opposite.
    Any ideas?
    thanks,

to write to Windows NTFS you need 3rd party.
You have read only access to HFS from Windows.
MacDrive8 works in Windows to add write to HFS as does Paragon. Paragon has what I have come to see as the best NTFS driver for OS X, and they have a separate HFS8 for Windows similar to MacDrive8.
Maybe you want to run Windows as a client OS using Parallels instead?

  • Can you see windows files on the mac side

Macbook pro is having bootup issues. Can the files on the windows (bootcamp) side be seen from the mac side?
Need to backup some files on the windows side and can not boot up.
    Thanks,
    zPeter

As Csound1 has stated, MacOS should have read only access to your Windows partitions, so as long as you haven't damaged the partitions too severely, you should be able to read the files, and therefore copy them off to another drive as a backup.
Since your system won't boot, only you can tell if the partition is damaged bad enough that the MacOS system can't access the data on that partition.

  • HT1461 For Boot Camp, if you save a file when you are on the Windows side, when you return to the Mac side, can you see the file or can it only be "seen" on the operating side you create it in?

For Boot Camp, if you save a file when you are on the Windows side, when you return to the Mac side, can you see the file or can it only be "seen" on the operating side you create it in?

Why don't you  (generic most every post lacks critical details) be clear and say you never used Mac OS etc.
But, I did try to anticipate and give you what you needed.
Excel is one of those rare programs that, if they are extremely large complex spreadsheets still tend to run better under Office for Windows.
A VM won't do for that but it does make it easier to transition. As in: install Windows natively, then use VMware Fusion or Parallels to attach to the partition and OS. That way you can run Windows as Guest OS VM under Mac; and still run Windows natively dual-boot when needed.
The word "see" was not what you wanted, was it? really? you want to open and make changes and keep it on Windows side rather than Save As or copy to Mac
You use Windows and don't know it has NTFS (NT FileSystem)?
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hierarchical_File_System (HFS) native file system used by Apple
And there is much more UEFI style "bios" and other things I suppose.
Great thing about Google and encyclopedias or dictionary, you can look up what you don't know.

You provided no information about your computer, your operating system, network, errors, or Windows version. But I'll take some guesses.
What did you try? What happens when you try? Any error messages? Did you download and install the Windows Support Software, or install it from your Snow Leopard Install Disk if you are using Snow Leopard? Did you look in the Windows Help menu to see how to set up wifi in Windows?

    EDIT: RESOLVED
For anyone else who finds their way here like I did, this link did it for me: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/527599/windows-8-issues-solved-please-r ead-if-you-39-re-having-black-screen-and-or-flickering-/
Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick.  I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally.  I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again.  I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time.  Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black.  I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]
    Hope this helps someone else!
