Sounds like you were running right at the maximum capacity of the iPhone when you made the backup, but you've since updated the iOS which is now taking up a little more space than the previous version.

Since Snow Leopard, OS X uses a Decimal count for file size. iTunes however still uses a Binary count. What that means is: your iTunes library shows one size, while the folder shows another. Depending on the size of your library, this can be a pretty big difference.
Yours won't be that much, but it may be enough to prevent it from moving to the MBA from the TM. -

In the simplest sense, archiving a file means making a copy that you never change and never discard. You already know how to do that.
iPhoto has built-in archival features, in the sense that it saves all versions of an image that you've modified. As long as you have adequate backups, you don't necessarily have any reason to archive an iPhoto library. If you want to delete images from the working library but still have access to them in case you change your mind, then you do need to archive those images. I don't have a specific suggestion as to how you should do that. You might post a question in the iPhoto forum. -

My problem is that i have 21go of the section "others" on my iPod 5. So, I went on internet to find what is the solution (or what to delete to get more space on my iPod), and I found that it was a problem to have more than 5go of "others", and that the only solution was to restor it. iCloud storage has absolutely nothing to do with local storage. You need to free up space on the iPad in order to download the movies. You can transfer some content into iTunes and then delete it from the iPad in order to make room on the device.
Settings>General>Usage>Storage is where you delete content if you want to do it in there. -

No, you cannot link to produce a single large partition.
But you can have two separate backup jobs.. and use each partition. That is hard on TM but you can easily get a different backup software for it.

In TM you do a different setup and exclude the other drive.
But it is better to use an alternative software IMHO.

You would need to use a network drive of more than 4TB .. it would also take forever. This is just wrong way to do it. Although you can buy a NAS that will work with Time Machine and load it with disks 16TB is possible.. if you can get a second mortgage.. the fragile nature of TM on 3rd party devices.. would leave me in cold sweat if anything went wrong.
TM is excellent at keeping incremental backups of files that keep changing.. as such you should use TM to backup your OS disk and main user directory.. exclude all files and directories that never change. Back them up separately.

Yes, that is a much better idea. You want to store photos safely and you want to store them in multiple places. If you have multiple TB of photos, dedicate a couple of disks to the backup. ie have at least two copies.. not in backup format.. in straight copy format if possible.. so you can keep one of the disks offsite.
I would be using your MacPro internal disk access, to place the disk onto sata bus and do the copy disk to disk direct. Or even buy esata card.. or sata to esata converter cable so you can use esata box. That will beat any other transfer speed except thunderbolt for which you would need third mortgage. (The MORT in mortgage is significant).

Something in your backup may be corrupt. Try wiping it and setting it up as a new device, then sync your apps, data and media back to it from iTunes. DO NOT resotre from your backup. If the problem is contained in the backup, it will bring it right back again if you restore.

I REALLY need help!!! My iPhone 4s is apparently OVER the amount of GB its supposed to have so it now will not even let me delete ANYTHING! Not my texts, apps- to free up space, NOTHING! It keeps kicking me off my email, wont let me get voicemail,see who last called on my "recents", wont let me send or receive text's or even let me change things in my settings. Now when I go to iTunes to sync, so I can try to free up space, iTunes sais there isn't enough space in its library for all my stuff so it WON'T sync either!!! I'm frozen and I have A LOT of VERY important stuff on my phone that I REALLY need! Can anyone tekk me what to do? PLEASE!!!!
First off try and go into your IPhone manually through My Computer and cut photos or anything you can through the device to be able to free space up so that you can continue to do what you want to do with ITunes. This way you will be able to create a backup or do what you have to do to manage your information, photos and texts on your device a little better.

Can not update iPod Nano, brand new and error says there is not enough room
I just purchased my son a 1 gig nano. After registering and setting up options for updates. I got a message saying that it could not update because there wasn't enough room. I was trying to download less than 100 songs and all of them have been downloaded from iTunes. I have already completed the "5R's" as suggested in the troubleshooting section and it still will not update. iTunes recognizes his iPod, all software has been updated, I've reset and restarted. Very frustrated and my 11 year old is very devestated. Could someone please help?

Dell Inspirion 6000 Windows XPThere's not an actual limit number to the ammount of songs that any iPod can hold. It's all size dependant. You might have simply downloaded a lot of large songs. When you're in iTunes check at the bottom of the screen to see how many megs or gig they actually take up. And keep in mind a 1 gig iPod isn't actually 1 gig. There is always a bit of space used up by system files and whatnot.

I've got 20,000 plus photos on my HD [yes, I know, way tooo many]. I'm trying to clean up by storing them on an external HD, but for several months I've not been able to export iphoto [even geniuses can't figure out why]. So as a work around, I'm trying to export events and albums to external. However, I realized that I didn't export in the original format making the files too small. Now, I just want to restore my iphoto library to the date before I started this process and when I try to restore from Time Machine, it comes up with an error message that I don't have enough room on my HD. In the Summary on iTunes it says I now have 8 GB of Other, that I didn't have previously. That's half my memory and I have no idea what it is. Also, I don't need Newsstand, YouTube, or Videos and can't seem to delete them. Could they be taking up that much space? Please help.
As a note, you won't be able to delete Newsstand, YouTube, or Video because they're native apps. BUT they also shouldn't take up much room at all. Video and Newsstand will if you have content stored in them, but you likely don't if you don't need them.

I got a new phone and did the "restore from iCloud backup" and now none of my new stuff can sync to iCloud due to amount of storage. Is there anything I can do besides buying more memory? I had a gb or 2 left prior to getting the new phone
If you no longer need the backup of your old phone, delete it to free up the storage.

You're right, i did. But how do I clear out available RAM? When I check the Activity Monitor and then System Memory it says I have 1.3gb available. That SHOULD be enough. Right?

I cant find photos that I took in 2013 in ICloud but they were there before. I reset my ipad have I lost them forever?
Has the drive been formatted for use with a Mac? If not, there is a size limitation or possibly the inability to copy to it. If it needs reformatting any data currently on it will be erased, so back it up if necessary.
