I can't restore my ipod... what do i do?

when i try to restore my mini, from disk mode, the updater says "can't mount ipod".
What do i do?

Two “Firmware Update Failure” Possible Solutions
(1)
First, make sure the iPod is fully charged before starting this procedure.
-- Disconnect the iPod
-- Right click on "My Computer"
-- Select "Manage"
-- Select "Device Manager"
-- Expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers"
-- Right click on "Enhanced PCI to USB Host controller"
-- Click on "Disable"
-- Click "OK" to accept changes
Run the Updater software (Start==>Run==>iPod) and wait till it says to "Plug in an iPod to update it"
Plug in the iPod and wait (for a long while). It takes awhile because you are now running at USB 1.1 speeds. When it finally shows up, do the "update" or "restore", which ever you were trying to do.
You can try to re-enable the "Enhanced PCI TO USB Host controller" after you are done running the Updater software and try to copy your songs and pictures to the iPod. This may or may not work. If not, revert back to USB1.1.
See: iPod not recognized correctly on Toshiba laptop
(2)
First, make sure the iPod is fully charged before starting this procedure.
-- Open the iPod Updater
-- Connect the iPod to the PC when it asks you to
-- The iPod updater will give you the option to restore, but do nothing - leave it attached and waiting
-- Open the Control Panel=>Administrative Tools=>Open the Computer Management program
-- Select Disk Management from the left hand panel
In the right hand panel, you will see the disks on the computer. One should be your iPod. What you want to do now is to format the iPod.
-- Right-click on the iPod's drive letter and select Format (Make sure you're formatting the iPod and not some other drive on your machine)
-- It doesn't matter what file system you use (either NTFS or FAT32 is fine)
-- You do not want to do a "Quick Format"
-- This will take quite a while to finish
-- When the format finishes, you can close the Computer Management program
-- If the format fails, then you have some other major problem
---- The cable might be loose
---- The connector could be bad
---- The iPod’s HD might be just broken
-- Now you can click the Restore button, and with any luck, you will not get the “Write Error” like before.
The rationale of formatting the iPod through Windows as above is to force the PC to scan the iPod's hard drive for possible errors. During the Format process, it does exactly that, and it will remap any bad sectors it finds. These bad sectors can cause the iPod Restore process to fail with that “Write Error” you're experiencing.
If either of the two solutions do not work, your iPod could have major HD problems, or the generic drivers built into Windows (known as "Mass Storage Device" drivers) could be missing or corrupted. Reinstalling Windows, or possibly just reinstalling Service Pack 2 may help.

when we  try to restore a iphone 3 sur Itunes and new Lion we have error 3194 can t restore this iphone what can i do ?
    thanks for your kind help

    1. Update iTunes - latest version is 10.4.1.
    2. Disable ALL security apps (firewall, antivirus/spyware) running on your computer.
    3. Don't try to downgrade the iOS version.  This isn't supported
    4. If you EVER tried to hack thie phone or use apps like tinyumbrella, you may have to edit the hosts file on your computer to remove references to gs.apple.com
    5. If your phone has been hacked (jailbroken, iOS downgrade, or unauthorized unlocking), you may not be able to restore the phone to Apple specs again.
"This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an error 3194. If you receive this error, update to the latest version of iTunes. 3rd party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue, to resolve please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see  iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod; follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store.  Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this error. Try restoring moving the current .ipsw file aside, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw."

i bought a second hand ipod 5 and the original owner forgot the email and password and i can't restore the ipod and it says i need the original apple ID but i dont know it could anyone help me??

If you can access the device: Tap Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase All Content and Settings.
If you can't do that then you need to Restore it as New:
Locked Out, Forgot Lock or Restrictions Passcode, or Need to Restore Your Device: Several Alternative Solutions
    1. iOS- Forgotten passcode or device disabled after entering wrong passcode
    2. iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
    3. Restoring iPod touch after forgotten passcode

    6. iTunes 10 for Mac- Update and restore software on iPod, iPhone, or iPad
    Forgotten Restrictions Passcode Help
You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
Also, see iTunes- Restoring iOS software.
You can also try using DFU mode:
Placing your device into recovery (DFU) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • My Macbook drive was replaced. If I sync my IPod Touch I'll lose all the old data on my IPod. Can I restore my iPod data to my computer?

My Macbook drive was replaced. If I sync my IPod Touch I'll lose all the old data on my IPod. What do you do when you buy a new computer or have a new hard drive?  Can I restore my iPod data to my computer?

See this article for details: How to back up your data and set up as a new device
    Or do this:
Make sure your Mac is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your MacBook.
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your ipod got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.
    Restoring: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

please how can I restore my ipod touch 2g from a firmware that I own already on my computer and without any time need to download via itunes

You should probably disable the autosync functionality first by going to Edit -> Preferences, clicking the Devices tab, and enabilng the prevent iPods,iPhones, and iPads from automatically syncing option.
Next, authorize the new computer with your iTunes Account.  In iTunes, choose Store -> Authorize This Computer and enter in the correct credentials.
If possible, either copy a backup file from your old computer to your new one or create a new backup of your iPod in iTunes before letting it sync.  To do this, right->click on your iPod Touch from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes and choose Backup. You might also want to take a look at this article to see what it all included in the backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Now onto synced content such as music, videos, photos, etc.  For iTunes purchases you can copy them back into iTunes by choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.  For all other nonpurchased iTunes content, see this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering different software availbable to assist you with this task.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2452022?start=0&tstart=0
Once the backup has been made and all other synced content such as music, videos, and photos are back in your iTunes library, restore your iPod from that backup you made earlier.  Here is more on backing up and restoring your iPod.

  • HT201263 How can I restore my ipod without erasing everything??

HOW CAN I RESTORE MY IPOD WITHOUT ERASING EVERYTHING?

    You cannot.
That is what a restore does.  It erases everything and reinstalls the ios.
If you are using the ipod as designed then everything is on your computer, so you can resync everything,  and you can restore from your backup to get the settings back.

I can't restore my ipod nano 5g, I follow all the steps of the iTunes program but when the process of restore is finish it starts all over again saying that an Ipod in process of restore is connected and to start using it I have to restore it... I can't use any of the bottoms of the Ipod, but the lock one does work. Please help me; I've proved to update the iTunes, to change the USB port and also to reset the computer, nothing seems to work...

The folder that you need to delete, iPod Software Updates, should be in this location on your computer:
    C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\
If it is not there, then you may want to try searching for this folder, in case your iTunes/Apple software decided to place its software updates for iPod folder in another location.
Go to the "START" menu, and select "Search". Select "All files and folders", and make sure that you are searching over your entire drive. Type "ipod software updates" in the blank, and click on OK (or hit Return) to begin searching.
Any folders of that sort of kind showing up in odd locations, or does your search return nothing?
Also, by the way, you are getting this exact error message, right?:
The iPod "[your iPod's name]" could not be updated because the firmware file could not be found.
If it says something different, then quote what the error message exactly says.

  • How can i restore my ipod touch 4g (?) without passcode or itunes

Hi and thank you for helping as this is urgent.
I forgot my passcode for my iPod, and guessed it to many times so it got disabled.
The problem is I don't have iTunes and can't get it on my laptop, but need to restore my device. Right now on the screen it has a photo of a USB cord, an arrow, and the iTunes symbol. So, how can I restore my iPod touch without my passcode or iTunes?
    Thank you SO much.

Right now you can't without a computer. Once you get to a computer you can restore it using DFU mode.
