I can't see a PC laptop from my Mac, and can't see my Mac from the Pc

I have an Airpot Extreme Base. My Mac connects to it and my wife's windows base laptop too.
I can't locate my wife's laptop from my mac, and my wife can not locate my mac from its windows network options....
I couldn't be able to find the way in any laptop to solve this issue

Hi, I did manage to ping each computer (the mac from the pc and viceversa), also I did manage to "see" the mac from the pc windows network application; but I still have two issues:
1) I still can't "see" the PC from my Mac, under share of finder....
2) How can I do to access the mac from the pc? It keeps asking me for a user and password, should I use my user and password that I use in my mac? How can I add the pc user into my mac setting if I can't "see" the pc?
Thank you for your help

  • How to install Essbase on your laptop from the Oracle Download site

    Hello everyone,
I am attempting to install the download version of Essbase on my laptop from the Oracle site. I have downloaded the following Essbase-11113 part 1, Essbase-11113 part 2, and APS-11113 part 3. However I am at a loss as to what to do next. I didn't see any executible files in the downloads all I see are xml documents and .dat files so I am completely lost as to how to install the system and get a working copy of Essbase running. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    EC

I too have it installed on a VM -- Windows 2003 -- and it's a 32 bit OS. If you do want to move it to your real desktop, you'll need a bunch of directories and environment variables from your successful 32 bit install to make it work, even for the client. I think XP should be okay for just Essbase and maybe EAS. You can always install Excel on the VM as well and just keep it entirely self-contained.
SmartView on 64 bit, if you're using Excel 2007, is a non starter; it does work with Excel 2003 and I think it's slated for a fix in 11.1.2.
If you're as hopeless as I am when it comes to installations, make sure you take plenty of snapshots so you can roll back to the last working instance. I did the whole stack on my VM, so I had lots of things to get wrong.
I think those who know what they're doing when it comes to installs don't see it as a challenge -- I'm a developer, not an installer, so I found it it be be gruesome (the full stack, 64 bit Essbase on the real iron).
    Good luck.

P.S. Just to show that when it's all certified, it works, I was able to install AppliedOLAP's client (okay, Tim was watching over my shoulder, but still) on my Vista 64 bit without any trouble whatsoever. It worked like a charm.

I have copied many photo's from another laptop to my Mac.  The older photo's are in directories with names that help me select what I need to view. I would like to have all my imported new photo's also bee added to the directory structure I have in Finder but my new photo's are all in iPhoto.  I want to use directories for storing and iPhoto for viewing.  Is this possible or do I need to have all my photo's in iPhoto??
    Mitch

iPhoto is not a Photo Viewer. It's a Photo Manager and designed for looking after the files while you organise the Photos. It really works much better if you let it manage those files. If you use iPhoto you never go near those files because iPhoto is your start point for anything you want to do with your Photos - the point of the pplication.
You can run iPhoto in Referenced mode, where it does not copy the files to the Library, but I caution you that you are making life a lot more difficult for yourself by doing that.

  • Im completely new to Mac. Im swapping my windows laptop for macbook pro and looking for network storage solution which the Time Capsule seems to do. Is it possible to use this as NAS for my desktop Windows PC - windows 7

Im completely new to Mac. Im swapping my windows laptop for macbook pro and looking for network storage solution which the Time Capsule seems to do. Is it possible to use this as NAS for my desktop Windows PC - windows 7

Broadly speaking I want some sort of network storage( wireless or through my existing wifi router) that I can access files for both my windows PC and Macbook and also to access files to my iPad/ iPhone. Some sort of backup and sychronisation so that I can access certain files remotely.
Buy a real NAS.. synology or QNAP are the standard... although companies like Netgear and Western Digital and Seagate make them as well.
There is no problem sharing between Mac and PC now.. you do not even need a NAS to do that.. you simply share the hard disk directly. Mac talk SMB.. everything talks SMB nowadays.. so it is easy.
ipad and iphone are not designed to use NAS.. they are designed to backup only to the cloud or itunes.. but you can load an app like file browser if you want.
    http://www.stratospherix.com/products/filebrowser/
Remote access to the Apple TC is somewhere between difficult, to impossible from a PC.. Apple use BTMM and iCloud but the service is not offered to PC.
A real NAS will offer HTTPS or SFTP or several other methods.. that both Mac and PC can use.
You simply plug it into the current wireless router.. it is a network device and assessable over the network. It is not necessary to buy another router.. in fact that is a waste.

    hi,
somewhere on the windows machineshould be something like "network setup wizard". exactly where it is and what it is called i cannot remember off the top of my head, windows help is actually slightly useful here, it should have a link to it.
all the options checked on the mac are only what services the mac is offering to other machines, they have nothing to do with the services it can access (mostly...).
oh yeah, to actually connect to the pc after you have turned its sharing on, use the finder, or, when it does not show the pc (this happens on and off, possibly a refresh problem apple...) choose go --> connect to server and enter smb://<pc's name or ip>
to find the ip, the easiest way i think is
    start --> run --> cmd ->> ipconfig

  • I am using new laptop with ipod touch and have downloaded i.tunes.  in the past i.tunes showed all the tracks on my old i.pod.  I can't seem to find the i.touch library to change or delete music. What am I not doing?

I am using a new laptop, windows 7, with ipod touch, hoping to listen to, whilst on line, edit and add music to my ipod library.  I have downloaded i.tunes but it does not show my library.  I know I have repeats to delete too but cant see anything, It does recognise that there is a body of music with the indication bar at the bottom., but does not list anything.  Help

I attempted to back up my old iPod, but in File - Library - back up to disk, it's asking for 15 disks!  I can't just back up to the PC/ext HDD that I can see.
That backing up your iTunes library, not your iPod. You can backup up your library by:
iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
First you have to get Itunes to see the iPod. See the following. Notupdating your iPod iOS has nothing to do with it.
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
You can transfer iTune spurchases from the iPod to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
You can also redownload iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer.
For other music yo will need a thrid-party progtam like one of those discussed here:
    newer copy

  • How do I control my office mac with my mac laptop from the road?

I have two Mac machines, my Powerbook G4 is updated to Leopard (even though it says Tiger below Nerowolf) and a new Mac Mini at home. I want to access it in real time from my office. As if I were at home using my Mini. How to I accomplish this? I know I can do it with Ichat but I need something better than that if possible.
    Thanks,

  • Purchasing a Laptop from the US to use in the UK

Hi, I live in the UK and found that the laptop I want is not available from any reputable UK stores (only slightly dodgy looking ones) and is £300 cheaper. What problems would I face with bringing it over from america in terms of Warranty or software issues?Would the warranty still cover me in the UK (as in via HP UK)? The laptop is HP Spectre x360 Intel core i7.

Software and wires work in any country. However, like mentioned, you will get problem in case of warranty. The price differs from country to country (in Austria for e.g. you have to pay 1.3 times the price compared to the U.S.). Admittedly, that might be a result of different taxes and currency exchange rates (Euro is still much higher than the Dollar).
Anyway... In case of your nano breaking down you will have to visit an apple store in the U.S. Nevertheless, I would buy it there if I were you but I don't know if it was illegal

  • I am having problems signing into the network at my school. The PC laptops work but Macs show the fact that the network is being upgraded but the district office insists it isn't.

I can connect to the guest network on my Mac but when I open Firefox, the main authentication page where I type in the user name and password states that the network is being upgraded and will not be available for use. The main district office technician says the network should be fine and can connect with his windows laptop just fine. Are there some things i need to change in the Firefox preferences that would fix this problem for my Mac?

A PC can have more issues connecting than a Mac.
But it really should not matter.. so just try it in situ.. press and hold the reset.. once it starts up, it will return to default IP, 10.0.1.1 the PC should then be able to find it via the airport utility.
If not drag it over to the Mac and plug in there by ethernet.. or since it is a laptop, really should not be that difficult to drag the Laptop and plug it into the TC.
Important thing is to get access to the TC.
The Mac if it is running lion, then you MUST download and install 5.6 airport utility to do anything useful.

  • Shipping laptop from US to AU

         Hi everyone!
So, I'm visiting Australia on a work and holiday visa for 7 months and my old laptop has just broken. I'm looking into purchasing a refurbished laptop from Apple.com. I was considering purchasing the laptop from the AU site but they don't have the same specifications as the one I want on the US store. (And seeing how I will be moving back to America I'd prefer to have one already with the US charger.)
My question is, would there be any way to purchase a refurbished laptop from the US and have it sent to an Australian Apple store? or if that's not possible if anyone has ever shipped a laptop over sea's and if that's a rational decision? (Keep in my the price differences are also atronomicly different.)
I have family in the states (Obviously) that would be willing to ship the laptop once it's mailed to them but A: worried about winter time in the U.S and B:Worry about the harsh heat in A.U.
    Anyone's help would WONDERFUL.
I appreciate you taking the time to read my concern.
    Thank's so much!
    - Justin

Justin, you do not have to worry about heat. I have friends living in the tropics who are happliy using Mac laptops, with the temperature above 35 Celsius! And  just two weeks ago I shipped a Macbook to one of them. No hassles, but I did buy insurance to cover damage or theft.
You can buy your laptop in the US and use it in Australia (or just about anywhere else in the world) without any concerns about power. Apple even sells a travel kit to adapt the charger to the wall outlets in other countries.

  • Problem downloading files to laptop from G5

I set my laptop as an external drive and downloaded my IPhoto library to the laptop from the G5. However, the laptop OS does not see the library, and I can call up photos only individually by name, and they show up in Preview. I can see the library from the G5 when using it as an external drive, so the library is on the laptop. How can I get the laptop OS to see the IPhoto library? Both machines are Tiger OS.

    Where did you put it?
    /Users/YourUserName/Pictures/iPhoto Library
Do a Get info on it, what Rights are on it?

  • Stolen Laptop from Repair Shop

I have a 15" Macbook Pro (SN W8*****AGU) that I brought into the Authorised Mac Retailer (MyMac in Melbourne, Australia) for a problem.
I paid for the cost for the initial diagnostic (since my laptop is out of the warranty period) of $99 and it was subsequently repaired without extra cost.
The night before I was due to pick up my laptop from the shop, the store was broken into during the night and a load of Apple Products, including my laptop, were stolen.
I am currently waiting for an answer from the shop who is apparently pending to hear from the insurance company to decide on how to reimburse us.
I believe this is not the correct procedure as the the shop's insurance policy bears no relevance to me as a customer of the shop. I should be compensated with a like-for-like unit brand new. I would like to know my rights on this matter.
Appreciate any input on this. I'd like to believe that Apple's usual good reputation on customer service means that is already precedent set on this and how this should be resolved.
    Thanks

  • How to start the Toshiba Ghost image files from the HDD

    Hello
Ok this is a tough one but hopefully some tech/wizz can help me out.
I have all the necessary CD Recovery disc but my Toshiba laptop CDRom has died and i'm looking for replacement at the moment.
I have managed to copy the image files and all the other info from these CD's onto the laptop hard drive via a network from my desktop cdrom. I did try to use the desktop cdrom to boot the 2.5" laptop drive but it knew it wasnt a toshiba laptop so wouldn't let me recovery.
However now I have manage to copy all the ghost image files onto the laptop hdd I'm stuck on how to run installation via dos.
The laptop hdd is formatted and all i have are the following files
    span.bmp
setenv.bat --------> batch file contains following lines
    @ECHO OFF
    SET GHOSTPAR=
    SET SWN=01237000
    SET EXT=GHO
    SET VOLLABEL=%SWN%
    SET FILENAME=%SWN%.%EXT%
    01237001.GHS------> PART 2 OF IMAGE
    01237000.GHO -----> GHOST IMAGE MAIN
    01237000.CRC
    A folder called G_INST
which contains 3 extra folders BMP, DOS and TOOLS and span.bmp
I cant figure out how i can run ghost to extract and recovery my HDD can someone help me :)
    Thanks in advance
    Simon

Im really skeptical if you will be start the Toshiba ghost image files from the second partition without using the Symantec Norton Ghost software.
I have created a ghost image of the C partition and placed it on the D partition.
To recover the C partition I have to start the Ghost Utility and have to use the image file .gho from D partition
I have googled a little bit and found the useful instruction how to recover the Portege M3500 without using an CD/DVD drive. Maybe this will run also on the Sat A30.
