I can't see adobe pdf printer

Hi,
I've recently installed the CC on my iMac at work, including Adobe Acrobat Pro. When I go to (i.e.) Illustrator > file > print I can't see in the drop down menu the 'Adobe pdf' option to virtually print my files. Every software is updated to its latest version, including my operating system (OS X 10.9.5). I tried to look up in several websites and forums to see if I have to do something specific to get access to the adobe virtual printer (I never had to do anything like that because it's always been automatic after installing Adobe Acrobat Pro) but I couldn't find any help. Does anybody have some advice? Thank you in advance.

That's too bad. I have an old illustrator file with 18 layers, one for each page of a calendar. That option was good to create an original  layered file directly in illustrator and then saving individual pages with the  'save visible and printable layers' option selected. Now if I choose 'save as pdf' there is no way to turn off unwanted layers and the resulting pdf is a fuzzy mix of all 18 layers

  • How can I prevent Adobe PDF printer being set as default on first logon on a computer?

    Hi all,
When a computer with either Adobe Acrobat X Pro or Adobe CS6 installed and a user logs on a computer for the first time the computer processes GPO's which define which print queues they are to use.
Unfortunately, once this is done, Adobe PDF Printer configuration kicks off, setting the Adobe PDF Printer as default. This is remedied by logging out and logging back in again, but this is annoying for the users (to say the least).
Since a lot of the users rarely use the same computer on a day to day basis, this is a common occurrence, and I would like to know how I can prevent the Adobe PDF printer from setting itself as default upon configuration.
Any and all suggestions are appreciated!

    Hi Cato-L,
Are you trying to do on single machine or multiple machines.
Have you got any solution yet.

  • How can I set 'Adobe PDF printer' as one of my printer choices?

I've given it half an hour. Can't seem to figure out how I can set 'Adobe PDF printer' as one of my printer options. I'm not sure if I need to download an Adobe file, and what folder I might need to place it in, and if I also need to add a specific driver.
I'm trying to create a PDF file that printers and outfits like www.lulu.com will accept. Printing an MS Word document via 'Adobe PDF printer' will allow me, I'm told, to produce a suitable PDF file.
Ideally I'm producing the original document in Pages - but I've been told by printers and lulu.com et. al. that no one out there likes PDF's produced by Pages ("not professional").
Any suggestions you might have would be most appreciated...

I downloaded the Lulu Adobe PDF joboptions file ... but it didn't come with any instructions on how to install or use it. I just have the file. I opened it with a double click and got Adobe Distiller - and I can 'see' what the settings are, but I'd love to understand how to install it so it becomes a selection when I export from Pages.
Forget the Lulu instruction about double click to install. Quit Acobat Distiller and Acrobat Pro. Move the Lulu joboptions file to the Adobe PDF Settings folder. The path to it is:
    HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe PDF/Settings/
    or
    HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings/
You're in the right folder when you see other joboptions files already in the Settings folder.
Next, launch Pages and open your document.
From the File menu, select Page Setup. In that window, select Adobe PDF 7 for "Format for," choose your paper size, orientation and scale % and click OK.
From the File menu, select Print
In the Print window, be sure the Printer is Adobe PDF 7
Click on Layout for a pop down list and select PDF Options
To the right of "Adobe PDF Settings" click for a pop up list and select Lulu
    Click Print

  • Snow Leopard: can't use Adobe PDF printer through Distiller

I am on Quark 8.1.6.2 and Snow Leopard (10.6.4) and use Acrobat Pro 9.4.
To make a PDF file I am always used to going through the Quark print dialogue boxes, selecting Adobe PDF as the printer, setting up sizes, settings etc, saving to a .ps file then using Adobe Acrobat Pro (9.4) Distiller to make a high res PDF for press. Worked fine, before I got Snow Leopard.
I have now read that Adobe PDF Printer is not available on Snow Leopard and that all applications that used Adobe PDF Printer to print pdfs will not be able to print pdfs.
See this link: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/509/cpsid_50981.html which only helps InDesign users, not Quark 8 users.
In the print dialogue box it no longer allows me to set up custom page sizes for a .ps file.
How do I now print to high res for print PDF (through a .ps file for Distiller). ie, I don't want to export to PDF through the Quark print dialogue, as it makes too big a file, that's why I need to go through Distiller first. Help!

PDF/X-3 is the best choice to use in those provided by Quark. You can read up on the PDF/X format here. For correct use, version 3 requires all fonts used to be embedded (which the Quark function does automatically). Version 3 also requires all images to be CMYK or spot color. That doesn't mean you can't use it for RGB, though. PDF/X-3 also allows calibrated RGB images and CIELAB.
I assume for pre-press output I should use ''Press - high quality/high resolution', but then Acrobat Distiller asks for settings too...
You don't go through Acrobat Pro or the Distiller at all when outputting a PDF from Quark. The function is built in. There are nice, short descriptions of the various PDF choices here.
When you select a style, the defaults are automatically applied. You will get center and trim marks and whatever else is in the default settings. After you have selected the PDF version you want to use, then click on the Options button. Turn off marks, downsampling of images, or whatever else you want to change. Click the Capture Settings button and Quark will then automatically use your last settings as the method to create PDF files. When clicking the option to capture, you'll be thrown back to the document the first time, so you'll have to go to the menu to choose Layout as PDF again. But you'll see the choice is on Captured Settings. So until you change it, all you have to do is choose a location and click Save.

  • Can't locate Adobe PDF Printer

Hi there. I am trying to convert a word document to PDF at printing but my printer menu does not include the entry "Adobe PDF Printer." I have Windows XP with Adobe Acobat 6.0 Professional. How do I get the Adobe PDF Printer into the Printer menu? Thanks for your help.

Hi Tom, if repairing doesn't reinstall the PDF printer, you may have a Lexmark® printer installed or even QuickTime® installed. I've heard that both of those can prevent the PDF printer installing because it harnesses the Print Spooler so Acrobat is unable to install.

  • I can't use Adobe PDF printer

    Hello,
I can't print with my adobe pdf printer.
My version is adobe acrobat 8
    Windows 8 64 bit.
I have a message "error impression on adobe pdf..."
NB : when I installed acrobat I had to decompress adobePDF.dll,
    Thx

I have heard of no one who has been successful with AA8 on Win8. If you have any chance, you need to be sure you have updated Acrobat to the latest update to work with 64-bit systems.

  • Can't create Adobe PDF printer on Win7 64 bit

I'm running a newDell Optiplex 990 with Windows 7 64 bit in a large company. Our IT guy just installed CS6 and everything seems to work fine -- EXCEPT - when we go to Devices and Printers/Add printer, there's no Adobe PDF driver (are they still called drivers?) to install as a printer.
We've reinstalled/repaired Acrobat Pro 10 several times and it still doesn't appear. We've never gotten a message indicating a problem.
I've done a lot of searching on this forum and elsewhere and found what seems to be the answer for many people which I'll copy here. Please note that when we get to bullet #4, there's nothing like Documents\*.pdf (Adobe PDF) to select -
    Manually install the PDF Printer
Click Start >  Control Panel > Devices and Printers
    Select Add a printer
    Select Add a local printer
Check Use an existing port and select Documents\*.pdf (Adobe PDF) from the drop down.
    Click Next
    Click the Have Disk… button
    Click the Browse… button
    Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Xtras\AdobePDF
Select AdobePDF.inf from the list, then click the OK button
You will see many Adobe PDF Converters in the list, however count six down from the top and click Next (you may need to try this numerous times to find the correct Converter from the list that works with your version of Windows)
Name your printer, e.g. Adobe PDF
Follow the rest of the prompts and your PDF printer should now be installed correctly
Two additional details that may be significant:
    1. We dug into the folder mentioned in bullet #8 but there wasn't an Xtras folder. I have a similar system at home and was able to find the Xtras folder. I copied that and placed it into the same spot on my work PC but no luck.
    2. Our IT department is rolling out Viewfinity in order to lock down PCs from users installing "stuff". The IT guy who did the install was logged in as an admin but still was unable to install Adobe PDF.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • I installed CS6 on Mac Pro (10.9 software version). I don't see the Adobe PDF printer in the printer/fax section.  I can not figure how to create the PDF Printer.

I can not figure how to create a Adobe PDF Printer. Normally when you install the package ( CS6 Standard for Mac Pro) the installer creates the PDF printer automatically. In the System Preferences under the Printer/Fax I don't see the PDF printer. How do you create the PDF printer.
    Thanks,
    Melanie

did you install acrobat x and does it work as expected?

  • Now I can't print to the Adobe PDF printer

At the same time I started having problems updating Acrobat (see my post yesterday, please), my Adobe PDF printer disappeared from system preferences. I've added it back using the help>repair option, but the printer no longer works.
Every time I try to print, the printer pauses, then when I restart it and try to resume the document I get an error...
    Operation could not be completed
    Client-error-not-possible
I've done a complete uninstall/reinstall of the whole Design Standard CS3 suite 3 times now, including removing my prefs and serial number (so starting from scratch), but this error, and the Acrobat updating problem, won't go away.
Please can someone help me on these?
    Thanks, Nige

Try going to Printer Utility and deleting any reference to the adobe Pdf Printer Driver.
Then you find file anlocate all versions of PDF Printer. remove all traces of version Previous to this version.
Now open Acrobat and got to help menu repair and replace and have it repair the Printer Driver again.
Note: PDF Printer does not work within Acrobat nor Reader. only with other applications. (Or at least I've never been able to have it work within Acrobat/Reader.)

  • Firefox 4 beta 12 can't print a page to adobe pdf printer unlike ealier versions

instead of bookmarking a page, I'd print to adobe pdf printer so I can always access offline but now it is no longer possible with firefox 4 beta 12. at first I thought adobe acrobat professional was corrupted so I repaired it - but I still had the same problem. I have installed acrobat professional 8 but nothing has really changed.
    Mark.

This nasty bug is a known problem caused by the beta 12 update. You could wait til' the RC comes out, or you could grab one of the latest nightly builds availible here that fix this problem: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-central/
Just a note though, nightly versions of firefox are generally less stable than betas or releases. I am waiting for the Release Candidate to come out myself. (Should be early next week)

I want hold the default setting and prevent modifing it,How can i do? can it be realized by javascript program? Thanks a lot!

    Hi,Test Screen Name
Because HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers\Ad obe PDF\ is the dir where to set the property of Adobe PDF printer when windows load it , this is experience, no documentation(or i don't find) , perhaps there will be other registry itemes which does not list in that dir ,but i don't know , that is why i think it just like what you have said ' It looks very like a "discovery" rather than a policy ' . For this reason , i want to realize it by adobe acrobat SDK programming ,but now  the second way is impossible. Thank you again !

  • Adobe pdf printer can't open log file

I am trying to print an Id cs6 file to a pdf file.
During the printing process, the progress indicator indicates it prints a book file to about page 23 (of 293) then I get an error message that says acrobat can't open the xxx.log file.
The printing progress indicator continues to indicate a file is being printed, but no file opens in acrobat at completion.
I expect the program to ask me to name the output, and then to want comfirmation, in this case, to replace the existing file.
This process worked until last night.  I was trying to make a PDF to upload to create space.  The file create space got has photos and images with too low resolution.  Not sure why that's happening either.  I think Adobe is printing screen resolution images.  I went into the adobe presets in the file drop down menu to try to increase resolution, and since, have been unable to print.  I probably did not fix the image resolution problem either.
THe error message likely involves a conflict between two parts of the program.  It's not accurate at face value.  Any suggestions to fix it?
    Thanks
    Roy

I have displayed the captures of the screens that I got to when I looked at the printer properties for the Adobe PDF printer. I am looking at the properties in AA8 and there is a chance they are different in AA9.

  • How can I change the default page size for the Adobe PDF Printer?

    Hello All,
I have cases where I need to switch the default paper size from 8.5x11 to 11x17 via api for the Adobe PDF Printer and have not been able to find how this can be accomplished.
I am using C# .Net and would appreciate any help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bob

There is no Acrobat API for this, but so far as I know there doesn't need to be. The user can go change this from the Printers Control panel as needed. The Adobe PDF printer has some differences from regular printer drivers, but this isn't one of them.

  • I can not print an PDF using the Adobe PDF-Printer with Acrobat DC

    Hi all,
i installed the Trial of Acrobat DC but it dont let me use the Adobe PDF-Printer well, because i cannot print from any third-party-application using Adobe PDF.
I tryed to print from within Word, Editor and Browser and selected the Adobe PDF-Printer as target, but at 75% both, the Application from which i print and the PDF-Creating-Wizzard are freezing (for hours) and i need to kill the procesed. No PDF-File is created. Same Problem with trying to print a Testfile from within the Windows-Printer-Dialogs.
Only Adobe DC cause this issue, if i use freeware like Bullzip PDF the files get created successfully, so i assume its not a generally problem with PDF on my system.
What could be the problem? (pls dont say its because of the trial, a trail should allow to test all features and Why should i buy a programm if it cannot do what a freeware can do?)

    Hey Daniel,
Have you tried repair Adobe Acrobat DC?
If no, then please repair the installation under Help menu.
This could also happen due to an Adobe Acrobat DC installation file corruption. To resolve this issue :-
Uninstall Adobe Acrobat DC using the Acrobat cleaner utility.
    Restart your computer.
Re-install Acrobat Acrobat DC  Download Adobe Acrobat free trial | Acrobat Pro DC.
Let me know if the issue persist.

  • Can only print one page to the Adobe PDF printer "device".

When I print to the Adobe PDF printer device I can only print one document.  When I print a second document I get the message "Adobe PDF Creation cannot continue because Acrobat is not activated."  However, if I reboot, I can again print a single document.
I'm running Windows 7 pro-64 bit.  I have Adobe Acrobat X pro, version 10.1.7 installed AND ACTIVATED.
Any suggestions for solving this damn headache would be much appreciated.  I'm sure tired of rebooting to print PDFs.

OK, here are a couple of ideas to try....
Go to Help and try Detect and Repair.
If you have Acrobat, you can try to distill the document or try a Save As
