I can't see my junk mail after it has been automatically removed

For a POP account I have used for years, the Junk mail folder suddenly won't show what's in it. It says I have numerous Junk mails when they arrive (the red circle number), but when I click on that mailbox folder, there is nothing there, yet I still have to manually delete the junk to get it off the server. This is only true on a silver Imac. the same account works just fine on a Macbook and several PowerPC iMacs. Anybody else have this problem, & how can I fix this?

I bought a new external drive two weeks ago and started using Time Machine, and that has triggered no end of problems around the same time that this started. so I finally shut it off (Time Machine, that is.) It also behaves in a really flaky way when I use Firewire to attach that drive. USB seems to work okay.
I haven't attached that drive to another computer yet. Also, my MobileMe account has screwed up my mail a few times.
I've been a Mac user since 1985, and have never had such reliability problems as in the last month.

  • How can I see what, when and how much has been downloaded from the net?

    I use a satellite internet service which limits me to only 200Mb of downloads in a 24 hr period. Should I go over, I am "locked out" of my internet service for the next 24 hr period. Lately I have been locked out without thinking I have downloaded anything. I am wondering if there is a place on the computer I can look to give me an idea what has been downloaded and when? I did change the Apple software update to not "automatically update important files" but I am wondering are there any other programs or anything the system may be downloading automatically without me knowing and what can be done to rectify it?

    Thanks for the thoughts. Here is some more for consideration. I was locked out yesterday and when I finally got out of "lock up" today, I went to my satellite internet provider's site to see how much and when it was downloaded. I booted my machine at about 10 AM yesterday and according to their site between 10 and 11 AM I downloaded 188MB of data. Then from 11 AM to Noon they said I downloaded another 28MB which then resulted in my being locked out of the internet until noon today. During that time I was on the net, I initiated no downloading from any site nor did I have any video streaming. What is frustrating is I have no idea what is being downloaded or how much. Most other days of the week it appears that downloaded material is 75Mb or less and I can remember generating the downloads.Looking at their site, the "downloading" of mystery material begins quickly after booting the computer which leads me to believe, as Kappy was saying, this is likely something like Apple Software updater or such set to "Download on Startup". I guess I'm not quite sure how to check to see what is set to "Download on Startup" and how to make sure nothing downloads at startup unless approved by me. Any thoughts?

  • Can I see how long an "away" buddy has been idle also?

    Is there a way for me to see how long an "away" buddy has been idle? It's long been a feature of regular AIM but I can't figure out if it's even available in iChat. A buddy may be idle for several hours when away, and it would be convenient to be able to see both idle and away status simultaneously. Please let me know. Thanks.

    I can tell that wasn't helpful so here it is... Using iChat if the person simply leaves their computer (doesn't post an away message) you can then see how long they've been idle. Otherwise if they post the default Away or their own custom away message it does not additionally show their time away or idle time. I know!!! it should though (unless their is an add-on application out there, which I haven't seen one that can make this happen)... iChat doesn't show this information in this case. Sorry.

    I have a customer who has a possible issue with the sticky inactivity timeout on the CSS. At the moment we are using no timeout, just relying on the CSS to purge the entries.
    However, is it possible to see how long the longest entry has been in the sticky table. I can see the 'elapsed time' with the 'show sticky' command but this only shows 100 entries per time and not in time order ?

    You can use the command "show sticky-table" with L3 or L4 options, depending on what you have configured, then add ip addressing to the command, to focus down to where the oldest sticky entries are likely to be, but theres no other way. If your problem is having too many entries, configure a sticky timeout, as the default of 0 will keep then forever, or until overwritten due to the table being full. If the problem is sticky entries timing out too early, you can use the timeout parameter to increase their life, but the sticky table is limited to 32k entries.

  • I can't see my junk mail to check it before deleting it

    i'm using the apple mail program and recently my incoming junk mail has disappeared visually from the junk mail window. i can tell it's still coming in daily, because the sidebar (with in + out mailboxes, drafts, junk etc) shows a constantly changing amount in junk mail. however, when i click on junk mail in the sidebar (which today notes 137 junk mails) the window itself shows none and actually reads "0 messages". does anyone have an idea how to fix this? thanks for any advice in advance!

    As I said, if the discussion applies to both Mail 1.x and Mail 2.x, which I believe will be the case here, it doesn’t really matter.
    Report the names of the files and folders present at the first level of the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folder in the Finder.
    In order to post the exact file names and avoid typing mistakes, proceed as follows. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/. With that folder open, if you’re looking at it in View > as List mode, first collapse any expanded folders so that the Finder only shows the files and folders at the first level. Now, do Edit > Select All (⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it in your reply to this post.
    You’ll probably see a Junk folder without the .mbox suffix there. If that’s the case, quit Mail and rename the folder to Junk.mbox. That should fix the problem.
    Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • How can I see in which Group the workspace has been created ?

    The BeehiveOnline Tutorial on slide 7 shows that Workspaces are created within a Group.
    Also the Group Administration screen suggests this as I can indicate that user ABC gets the role 'Workspace Creator' in one Group but same user ABC does not get the role 'Workspace Creator' in another Group. (what else is the purpose of this role within Group Administration)
    But when I created my workspace, the system did not ask in which Group I wanted it to be created, neither can I see in the Settings of the new Workspace to which Group it belongs.
    Can you please help ?

    BeehiveOnline relies on groups to be self-sufficient - if you are in one group your world of available participants is that group and that group alone. So if you want to create a new workspace and add users they can only be drawn from that group. - hence the workspaces within a group setup. However, if you are in multiple groups then the linkage gets broken as you could add members to a workspace from different groups - if you needed many group to share a repository of read-only info for instance. This is in wide use on BeehiveOnline. Read and Write access is more of a problem as if anyone updates a document or creates one their id will be attached to it and if they are in a group you as a workspace member cannot see it will cause confusion.
    So workspaces are only group restricted if there is only one group. If you have multiple groups you have more scope but have to exercise more care.

    I would also like to have different answer messages set up for each number, again is this possible.

    What people do who need such a scenario is set up a Skype account for each Skype Number, thereby creating the differentiation between each Skype Number.

  • I have created a site but can't open it in iweb after it has been done.

    I created a site using iweb, and then tried one of the free templates that a website was offering. After I open the template I was no longer able to open the site I created. I can locate the files in the Sites folder, but it will not allow me to open it.
    Does anyone know what I can do so I don't have o recreate it all over? This would be a total nightmare!

    If the files are in your sites folder, then iWeb will never be able to open them because they contain your published site.  iWeb has no import facility so is unable to open html pages - a previously published site.
    You need the data storage file called domain.sites to be able to access your site again.  This can be found under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.  Find this file and double click it and iWeb will open it.
    Note that you need to look in your User Library and not your System Library, as you won't find iWeb there.

  • Can't connect to Time Capsule after MacBook has been closed

    While ago I bought a 2TB Time Capsule to back-up my movies and music to, because my MacBook Air only has a small SSD.
    It worked fine for a while but now I'm experiencing some problems. Everytime I close my MacBook and open it again, it can't connect to the Time Capsule anymore. I have to reboot the macbook and then it works again. Any idea how I can fix this? I also connected my iMac in the other room to it but I don't think that should be the problem.

    Give this a try:
    1. Start AirPort Utility, then let it remain open.  You can hide it but do not quit, 
    2. System Preferences>Energy Saver>Power Adapter>uncheck "Wake for access".
    Any improvement?

    Pay serious attention ot Illaass's advice about the police. Don't try recoverying it yourself, or forcing a confrontation with the alleged thief.
    Good for you that you installed and activated Find My iPhone! Now get yourself to your local police station right now with the information from Find My iPhone printed out if you can. The sooner you do this, the more likely that they can recover your property.

  • Can you reinstall a CC app after it has been uninstalled on a PC?

    I installed the updated version of InDesign CC (2014) onto my work PC. The next day my computer was having trouble starting and running slow. IT suggested that I uninstall the updated InDesign (2014) so I did, plus the previous version CC, so I would start out with a fresh install of InDesign. Now I cannot figure out how to reinstall it. The uninstall does not appear in my activity stream and InDesign CC (2014) shows up as an installed app in my Creative Cloud app, but under programs on my PC it is not there and all of my InDesign files reverted back to CS5.5 - which is still installled on my PC, but i cannot open any of them because they contain the updated plub-ins. Ahhhh happy Friday! Please help

  • A new round of Junk Mail after installing Safari Beta 3.0

    In the days since installing and religiously using Safari 3.0 beta on my MacBook Pro with 10.4.9, I am seeing a huge increase in Mail being sent to the Junk folder via Automatic Junk mail filtering. I have not changed any Mail settings. This is mail from sites that I get mail from all the time without it going to Junk Mail Folder. So something has changed, drastically.
    I do have the mail Junk filter set to trust my ISP Junk Mail headings (Earthlink). I will turn it off and see if that changes anything. Perhaps Earthlink is doing something new.
    But if not Earthlink, I can only wonder if anything changed due to Safari 3.0 install.
    Anyone else having this type of new problem?

    I've had exactly the same problem with junk mail after installing Safari 3. No other recent changes.
    So far, retraining on received e-mails does not seem to be taking; good e-mails keep going into junk folder.
