I can't see my time capsule in the finder menu

I just bowgth a new airport extreme time capsule 2T and it´s working fine with the wireles network but I can select it in the finder menu to use it as a back up disk. ¿why?

That's not the way of setting up your Time Capsule as a backup disk.
Instead, you need to set up Time Machine. Open System Preferences > Time Machine > Select Disk, choose your Time Capsule and your Mac will start making backups to your Time Capsule.
Also, are you sure you have bought an AirPort Time Capsule? Maybe you have bought an AirPort Extreme, and this one does not come with a hard drive, so you cannot see it in the Finder sidebar to copy files to it

Can I use 2 Time Capsules on the same network
Posted: Jul 23, 2009 1:49 PM Reply Email
Here is what I want to do. I currently have a time capsule used for one end of the house. Currently my 2 kids rooms are in an addition that I have run a cable from the time capsule to each of their rooms. If I want to give them wireless for that part of the house could I add another TC, for wireless and they can both backup their macbooks to that time capsule.
So Can I add a 2nd time capsule to extend by "N" network, or should I just go with an AP express or extreme and let them each have their own HD backup for each macbook?

Have bought many reconditioned (Refurb) product from Apple site and have always been happy with them. To date none have failed me and we have been Apple customers since 2006. With that said when you buy Refurbs make sure you know what model you are getting. The current TCs on the Apple site are last generation. The way to tell is to check the model number against the current one. Easy way to do this is to put both in the shopping cart and compare the model numbers. The Refurb model number is FB277LL/A and the new TC model is MB765LL/A. The first digits identify whether a Refurb or new, the rest should be the same if they are the same model number.
Before you buy, now which model number you want and then check other sites to compare prices. I recently purchased a new TC on Amazon for a better price then the Apple Store Site. For larger Refurb purchases like MBPs, we choose to buy directly from Apple; but for peripherals we often buy from OWC, Amazon, and other sites. Hope this helps.

  • We traded our home internet service for a Sprint Hot Spot.  The hot spot does not have an ethernet port to connect through.  Can we connect our time capsule to the wireless hot spot?

Hello, we switched our home internet service from an ethernet modem to a wireless hot spot.
Do you know if there is a way to connect our time capsule to the hot spot?
Everything I read only suggests connecting through an ethernet cable.  I'm hoping there is a way to do this.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks!!!

No you can't join a wireless hotspot with a Time Capsule directly via it's 'join' option (tried and failed - well to be exact it kinda works but the Time Capsule's ethernet ports no longer work).
What you can do is buy an airport express and use it's 'join' option to connect to the iPhone's hotspot. Then you connect the airport express via ethernet to the time capsule (in bridge-mode).
You can then connect your computers to the time capsule via ethernet or use it's wireless function to set up wireless network (with a different name to that of the hotspot) that your wifi stuff can connect to.

  • Can i use 2 time capsule for the back of the same Mac computer, for improve the security of the data store

I will save my data in 2 time capsule at the same time for improve data security

Mountain Lion added this ability.. it doesn't do two backups at the same time but each time it backs up it uses the alternative location.
Under Lion you can manually set it to use a different target.. this isn't difficult but you must do it.

  • Can I take my Time Capsule from the UAE to the US

I live in Dubai and just bought a Time Capsule. The cord is the standard 220v for the middle east and I am moving back to the US in a few months.

The Time Capsule will operate on 100-240 Volts and 50-60 Hz automatically, so it will work just about anywhere in the world, power wise.
You will need an adapter to allow the 220v plug to connect to the standard 110v AC wall sockets in the U.S., but a voltage converter is not needed.
If you do not want to use an adapter, you can buy a "figure of eight" power cord in the U.S. and not use the power cord with the 220v connector which came with your Time Capsule.
Wireless wise, insure that the Time Capsule is using wireless channels 1-11 to comply with the U.S. standards. You can do this easily using AirPort Utility, the application that is used to set up the Time Capsule.

  • Can I  use 2 Time Capsule with the same macbook?

I am commuting between 2 locations every 2 months
In one location I have a Time Capsule 1To working find
in the other location I want to install a second Time Capsule to have backup here.
Question is, when I will come back to the other location Macbook will recognize first Time capsule?
    Regards
    NG

I am using 2 TCs with my MBP. As far as I've been able to figure out, the macbook will not automatically detect and switch between time capsules. I manually switch backup location using the "change disk" in Time Machine Preferences.
I have no problems, but I am using one at work and one at home, so I am doing daily backups to each TC. I would guess that backups separated by 2 month intervals would take almost as much time as your initial backup depending on how many files have changed.
Also, you may want to check into accessing the TCs over the internet so you'd have access to the backups at the other locations. Maybe another app would be better since you don't have daily access to both TCs.

  • When clicking on Time Capsule in the Finder Sidebar, it doesn't connect.

Once in a while when I click on Time Capsule's icon in the sidebar of the finder window, I am unable to connect to Time Capsule. Yet, if I use the "Connect to Server..." command, I'm able to do so.
A possible problem is that there is something wrong with your IP address even though you are able to connect to the internet. Whatever the reason, this worked for me:
    1. go to Apple > System Preferences > Network
    2. Click on the Advanced button
    3. Find and click on "Renew DHCP Lease" usually under TCP/IP
This has solved my problem. Now I can directly access Time Capsule from the sidebar.
Another fix is to go to Time Machine under System Preferences, select "None" for hard drive, turn off Time Machine, then turn it back on and reselect Time Capsule as the hard drive to backup.
All previous backups remain intact and nothing will be lost.
What I suspect is that there is some kind of mismatch between Bonjour and the IP address. This may happen after I've restarted the Time Capsule or after I directly connect to the Time Capsule via ethernet cable and then later access it using Wifi.

  • Updated to Airport Utility 5.3.2 - now can't see my time capsule disk!

I updated to 5.3.2 of the Airport Utility through software update but, after rebooting both my Mac and Time Capsule, I can now no longer access my Time Capsule's disk. Airport Utility says 'no disks found'
A similar thing happened after the update to 5.3.1 but I could still see the disk in Disk Utility, and once I'd verified it, it all worked OK again.

Okay guys. I called apple support, and the guy there fixed it for me. Reset the TC, and go through AirPort Utility again. The disk is there! Very happy that it was that easy, but bummed that they let the firmware go out like that. Seems like they'd catch that sort of thing.
The support guy was great, though. Very quick.
Good luck, hope this works for everybody!

  • My new MBP can't see my Time capsule

    Hi
Thanks for any help with this :
I use my capsule about once every 2 weeks to back up the MBP.
Have a new MBP and wanted to back it up for the first time. The MBP is running 10.7.2.
It could see the Time Capsule originally but said it needed a firmware update as its an original 1TB capsiule:
I don't have the capsule connected to the internet directly because I just don't like the idea of that.
When you'd disconnect the MBP from the internet WiFi, to connect to the Capsule, the capsule would say it needed an update - HOWEVER when you'd connect back to the WiFi network then airport utility didn't see a capsule to see a need for the firmware update:
    My questions are:
    1) can you download the firmware manually.
    2) can the USB slot be used for connecting to the computer ??? It seem not to be possible as nothing comes up on the computer when the two are connected
I tried other strategies like setting up the Capsule on the house WiFi - now the MBP can't see the Capsule at all at all, ----green light on, soft resets done, USB in the back.
The only thing I havn't tried yet is to get an Ethernet cable - years since I had one and lost. Guess I'll have to go out and get one
    Thanks
    Tom

partial solution - hold the reset button down for longer than one sec, held it down for 5-6 sec and this reset the connection info to default so the computer could see it again.
Getting the firmware onto it remained a larger problem.

  • My PC (Windows) can't see my Time Capsule wireless Network

I just installed a wireless network with a Time Capsule and it's working fine for the three Macs and the printer in the household.  However, I still need to have access to the wireless network for one PC running Windows.  Problem is the PC doesn't "see" the Time Capsule Network.  What am I missing and how can I set up the PC on the wireless network?

Try downloading AirPort Utility for Windows here:

  • I can't see my time capsule hard drive anymore

I have a macbook pro connected to time capsule (1tb) and a printer. I can access the internet and can print but my machine has stopped backing up and cannot find the time capsule hardrive anymore. I have tried resetting everything (several times) to no avail. Help!

Open a Finder window and look for your TC in the sidebar, then click on it. It will then display one of the following messages: "Connected as <your user name>" or "Connection failed." If it's the latter, click on the "Connect..." button and enter the TC password. Make sure the checkbox for "Remember this password" is selected before you hit OK.
Once this is done, your backups should work. Your TC should be connected whether or not it's mounted on the Desktop, even after you logout/login or restart or even wake up from sleep.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can not see my time capsule in airport utility

I was trying to add a password so my time capsule could access ATT for internet and during the process it disappeared from the airport utility on my MAC?
I've tried resetting both devices, but it won't come back to the utility so I can configure it.  Rescanned several times.

Remove any other connection to the TC except one computer by ethernet. Press the reset again, and hold it for 10sec and wait for the TC to restart.
Restart the airport utility. If it fails to find the TC try plugging it into a different computer.
If the issue follows the TC take it to Apple Genius to be checked.

  • Can I have two Time Capsules in the same network, use one as Time Machine and other to expand network?

I need to purchase a divice to expand my Wi-fi network. I was looking at the AirPort Extreme, but a friend has a brand new Time Capsule for sale. So, for the same price of the AirPort Extreme, I´m getting the Time Capsule.
I already own one and using it as Time Machine and wireless router. If I decide to purchase another TC would it have any conflict with the one that I already have?
Is it possible to use one as Time Machine and wireless router and the other to just expand network and storage only (not as Time Machine)?

If I decide to purchase another TC would it have any conflict with the one that I already have?
    No
Is it possible to use one as Time Machine and wireless router and the other to just expand network and storage only (not as Time Machine)?
Yes. The important thing to remember is that the "extending" Time Capsule must be located where it can receive a strong wireless signal from your "main" Time Capsule.

  • Can I access my Time Capsule over the Internet?

I want to know if it is possible to access my time capsule Hard Disk over the internet, How do I do it?

"Launch AirPort Utility and select "Manual Setup". Click on the "Disks" icon in the title bar, then on the "File Sharing" tab. That's where you set your Time Capsule to share as you want."
OK, checked that last night at home.
I'm at the hotel now with a good internet connection via ethernet.
What do I do now? Please provide step by step rather than a general statement.
