  • I can't see my usb camera (Kodak CX7220)

    Hi,
The package libgphoto2 (2.1.4-2) does not contain my camera. So, I had to compile the new version (2.1.5) myself. After installed it, I dont know if I have to do something else, but when I run gthumb or gtkam, I still can't see my camera on the list!
Anyone knows what I have to do?
    Thanks!

    Hi murpheus40.
First check out the following very recent article about cameras under LInux:
"Use Your Digital Camera with Linux"
    http://www.linuxdevcenter.com/pub/a/lin … gicam.html
    Now for a few tips:
    1. Check that the USB camera is recognized after it's been plugged in. You can check the devices file:
    cat  /proc/bus/usb/devices
or you can run usbview (an Arch Linux package).
    2. Even if you can't get gthumb or gtkam to work right now, you can download the files directly using gphot2. This is nicely described in the article referenced above.
    3. You might find that your camera is not well supported by ghoto2. For one of my cameras this meant that the USB connection was lost and it was necessary to replug the camera in to work with additional commands (e.g., doing a complete file list dropped the connection after the listing was complete).
    4. Your camera IS supported by gphoto2. See:
    http://www.gphoto.org/proj/libgphoto2/support.php
    5. The previous tips may not have gotten you to your goal. There's a lot of good information about setting up USB cameras under LInux using gphoto2 at:
"Digital Camera Support for UNIX, Linux and BSD"
    http://www.teaser.fr/~hfiguiere/linux/digicam.html
"Configuring a USB digital still camera on Debian"
    http://jace.seacrow.com/tech/linux/usbcam
"How do I get my USB digital camera to work under Linux?"

  • I can't see the borders of my display on Toshiba TV

I think this might be a common problem, but I'm having the devil of a time....
Have googled for answers and even read up concerning my problem here, even tried downloading DisplayConfigX 1.09 as recommended in one of the posts I read. But I am not fixing the problem:
The borders of my display seem cut off -- I can't see my dock or any of the commands at the top of the screen.
I'm using my Theaterwide HD Toshiba TV as monitor for my mac mini -- purchased the skinny little new version less than a year ago but am using the old Tiger OS from a '04 mac mini that's since no longer with us. Hooked up via hdmi cables, if that matters.
Other components are using this same TV so I'd prefer not to mess with the resolution/settings on that but would rather deal with this if possible thru computer's settings or software or something.
    Would appreciate any suggestions!
Also, might it be easier to hook up a second monitor for controlling the screen? I have one that I was using for the computer before I hooked it to my tv... Do I need some kinda adapter or something...?
    Thanks for help!
    Carolyn

    Carolyn,
I think your TV might be a rear projection model, correct? Those types of TVs inherently have overscan built into them as part of their optical design. The TV should have some picture SIZE settings that affect how much overscan is present, and some settings may even get rid of it altogether with the result there might be a small black border instead.
Don't worry about changing TV settings. Settings like this are tied to a specific input. So if you make these types of changes while the TV is passing the mini's video through to the screen, those changes will only apply to the mini. When you switch to other inputs, like a cable box, etc., the old settings should still be intact and unchanged.

  • Can't see menu bar on external display

I just attached my MacBook running 10.6.2 an lcd flat screen hd tv. Everything is fine other than I can't see the menu bar. I've changed to every resolution available, but the menubar is never visible. It's there, because if I use my (wireless) mouse and put it off the top of the screen and click, I can get menus to open.
Has anyone run into this problem and have you found a solution?
    Thanks!

Right, your TV is overscanning. That's very common. Overscan has been part of what TVs have done for decades.
If your TV is meant to be compatible with computer output, there should be a way to set the screen size using the TV's remote and/or menu system so that computer output just fills the screen. So check you TV's user manual about making a connection to a PC for information about how to get rid of overscan on the TV.

  • How  can I see my isight cameras remotely WITHOUT using an iphone or ipod?

I simply want to be able to see any of the isight webcams that are on my various computers in my home from another computer when I am not home to keep an eye on things.
I have tried off and on for years to get Quicktime Broadcaster to work, but i'm not sure if that's even the right way to go.
I am an advanced user. I know what my home's IP address is and I know how to forward ports in my router. But even when I've used Quicktime Broadcaster on any of my computers running 10.5 or 10.6, I can't figure out what the address would be if I wanted to view my webcams remotely from another computer that's outside of my home.....for free.
There's GOT to be an easy way to do this. Even if it's complicated I should be able to do it with my internet and application knowledge. Please HELP!!

    You're welcome.
installing darwin streaming server ... So frustrating!
I don't see any question here. Perhaps training from your Apple retailer or a local computer training specialist would ease your frustration. Local computer clubs or user groups might be able to recommend someone to you. If not, you will need to do the research and study on your own if you continue to pursue the QuickTime approach.
By nature of its considerable capabilities and breadth of functions, Apple's full-powered, professional QT software is more complicated than the other software solutions I suggested. Those other applications do not offer the same power and capability as Apple's professional QT apps, but neither do they require you invest so much time for research, study, and test runs.
If you are determined to learn and use the QT approach, start your study with the FAQs, tutorials, and other info on the applications are available from these links:
      http://www.apple.com/quicktime/broadcaster/
      http://www.apple.com/quicktime/streamingserver/
      http://developer.apple.com/opensource/server/streaming/index.html
Additional (and more advanced) info is available from the Apple Developer Connection pages:
      http://tinyurl.com/2cyvwsm for Broadcaster
      http://tinyurl.com/27tl8k9   for Streaming Server
      http://dss.macosforge.org/ (for Darwin Streaming Server)
Implementing streaming video using these QT products may be easier if you use the versions integrated into Mac OS X Server. See http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/ for information that may help you decide whether to buy OS X Server.
If you have no plans for streaming video beyond that you have described, you might want to reconsider using the professional QT apps. You will likely find the surveillance or webcam apps far simpler to configure and use.

  • Can't see external USB camera in iMovie or Quicktime. Macbook, running Yosemite

I am using a Logitech C930e external USB camera with my Macbook running Yosemite 10.10.1. Trying to capture video - neither quicktime or iMovie recognize the external USB camera. Any suggestions?

Thanks so much for the reply.
I know this sounds ridiculous as it was only two days ago but I can't actually remember. I don't think I actually got round to reformatting as I don't remember concluding which format was going to be best for me.
For information - there is no data on this drive that I want to keep. It is straight from the supplier.
If there was a way to reset it that would ideal although if I did format to mac extended journaled what should I do next?

  • My laptop was stolen, and came online. i have an email telling me i can view that location for 24 hours, but i don't know how. when i go to find my iphone it says offline. can i see where it came online and how?

Hey guys. My macbook pro was stolen and i checked the box for icloud to email me when it came online. It did, and says I have 24 hours to vew the location. How do i do this? when i go to find my iphone, it simply says offline again.

    Hi,
I would report this to the police and they will help you track down your MacBook Pro and catch the theft.
They will know what to do.
I would go to http://icloud.com to view the location of your laptop.
    Hope this helps.

Open Photo Booth App and it will show you on the display what camera sees.

  • Can't see a nikon d800 camera profile in adobe camera raw 8.2

    Hello,
I can't see a nikon d800 camera profile in adobe camera raw 8.2
When I open a NEF file from D800, I can see in upper left corner "Camera Raw 8.2 - Nikon D800", but when I open  "camera calibration" and click "camera profile", I can only see "Adobe standard, camera landscape, camera neutral, camera vivid" etc., but there is no "Nikon d800 profie
I copied .dpx files with that profile to:   C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles     ,but nothing happened.
Strange thing is that when I open a NEF file from old Nikon D80, in "camera profile" appears: "camera D2X mode1", "camera D2X mode2", "camera D2X mode3". Any ideas?

The profiles that you see listed are the profiles for the camera that took the photo.  You will not see the camera model listed.  Those are the profiles Adobe created for the camera that took the image.  You cannot change profiles to those of a different camera.
Apparently older Nikon cameras had the profiles you see listed for your D80.  I have those same profiles of as part of my D90 choices.  But, again apparently, those profiles are not part of newer cameras.  I wouldn't know, because I'm still using a D90.

  • Vi find resource can't see 1394 camera

use "visa find resource", can't see my fireware camera, only can see serial ASRL*,  but on Max, I can see it,
the same thing in CVI viFindResource, with setting /?*,   /FIREWIRE?*, only can see ASRL.

yes, the sony dfw-x700 in device manager of windows, MAX also can see it, and CMU 1394 demo application from Carnegie Mellon University can find the camera.
and I got a code from some where ,
//open a VISA resource manager session
        status = viOpenDefaultRM (&defaultRM);
//find the device in the system.
                status = viFindRsrc(defaultRM,
                "FIREWIRE?*INSTR",
                VI_NULL,VI_NULL,instrDescriptor);
suppose  it should return the fireware device ?
when I use "/?*INSTR", I can only see the Serial device.
what I want is directly using VISA to access fireware device without using imaq driver.                                                                       ,),
