I can't see pdf files through safari

i can not see pdf files through safari

I had the same problem after making Adobe the reader for pdf. Fixed it by
1) removing the Adobe plug-in from the Internet Plug-Ins file in the Library.
2) restarting Safari.
Back to normal.

  • I can't read pdf files through Safari.

Just recently I cannot read pdf files from Safari.  The file shows up as dark space.  I don't know why?  Guessing I changed something that caused it.  Any ideas?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
              Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
              Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Even I have the latest version of Adober reader I still can not open pdf file on safari

Save the file locally, open the Reader application and try to open it from there. If it still doesn't work provide the full details of your OS, Reader version and the exact error message you're getting when you try to open the file.

  • Help! Can't see PDF files

I can't see PDF files on my screen (they open and I get grey or blank or black pages on my screen).  I can email those same files to my other computer and read them just fine.  I must have something set wrong on my computer.

Do your PDF files have images in them?
Make sure the "Show large images" preference is selected.
In Acrobat 8, it is under Edit > Preferences > Page Display > Page Content and Information.

  • Can't open pdf files in Safari for Windows

Hi, I haven't been able to open pdf files in Safari - each time I click on a pdf link, a new tab opend and then a pop-up window says "can't open Adobe" (or something like that), and then Safari crashes. I've read that the solution is to install Adobe Reader 8, but I can't because I already have Adobe Acrobat which doesn't seem to work with safari. Does anyone know a way to view pdf files in Safari for windows?

Try to uninstall and after that install Acrobat Reader 8 again.

  • How can I open pdf files in safari browser without installing Adobe reader?

I do not wish to use adobe reader. I just uninstalled it and now I can't view pdf files in preview when attempting to open the file in safari browser.  How can set safari to open any pdf files using preview application?

Copy the text below, including the initial /
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Switch to Finder, then use the Go menu - Go to Folder command & paste in the text, clicking Go afterwards.
A Finder window should open, showing various plug-in files. Trash any that are for Adobe or PDF. You'll be asked for an admin name & password.

  • Can't open PDF files in safari

I have a problem opening PDF files in safari
50% of the time I get a error message:
"could not launch acrobat." then safari quits,
and the other 50% of the time:
it safari does noting for about half a minute and then quits,
it's not a problem with acrobat, because it does work in Fx and Chrome
anyone knows what's wrong and, especially, how to solve it?

There's a couple things you can try to view pdf files in Safari.
Install Acrobat Reader 9 and it will ask if you Acrobat Reader to view pdf's. Close Safari, check yes and re-open. If AR9 is already installed, go to prefs/internet and and check yes in the box for 'display pdf in browser using......'.
Alternatively, if Acrobat is opening the pdf file in Safari, and you don't like it (which I didn't), go HD/library/internet plugins and throw away the 'AdobePDFviewer' plugin, and restart Safari. I believe the Quicktime plugin then handles the pdf.
You may also need to check the mime types in Quicktime. Open System Preferences/Quicktime/Advanced and open the Mime Settings button. Scroll to 'images' and check the box for pdf's.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I view PDF files on Safari

My MacBook Pro will not open PDF files on Safari. I have Adobe Acrobat but the program is asking me for a 24 digit serial number when I only have 20. I tried looking under Preferences and About Safari but I just can't figure it out. Is there any other way to view the PDF files on Safari?

Download and install the freeware Adobe Reader application. It includes a web browser plugin that works in Safari.
Consult Adobe about the serial number problem with Acrobat.

  • Can't open PDF files in Safari 5.0.5 with OS 10.6.6, have Adobe reader 10.0.1 installed

Would appreciate some assistance if possible: I'm looking to de-bugg my system so that I can download, open, read and print .PDF files again.  My Macbook running in 10.4 was recently stolen, so needed to buy as a replacement a refurbished Macbook with OS 10.6.6 and Safari 5.0.5 installed.  Had this problem from the outset, so following some web-advice, I downloaded and installed the new Adobe reader 10.0.1.  So far it has not fixed the problem.  When I try to download a PDF and open it, the browser window comes up dark grey.  If I try to save it to the desktop or hard drive, it tells me the PDF file can not be exported.  It looks like I'm not alone in this, see the following link: https://discussions.apple.com/message/13106101?messageID=13106101
