I can't see thunderbolt GDrive in iMac finder (OSX Mavericks)

Hi brighter people than myself ;-)
I have a 4TB thunderbolt GDrive connected to my iMac on Mavericks. When connected, the icon for it appears on my desktop under the icon of Macintosh HD as do my two other FW800 GRaids and wifi TC when connected. However, the only one to appear in the finder window is the TC - there is no sign under devices of the external drives! I can perform all tasks between external drives and Macintosh HD etc by opening the drives in windows but I cannot access them from the finder. Is
Any ideas anyone please?

Check Finder>Preferences, make sure that external drives are checked for the sidebar as well as the desktop.

Do you see anything on the TV?
If you just see your desktop, then your MacBook is defaulting to extended display mode. Try pressing the Command + F1 keys to see if you get the menu bar and other icons.

Are you sure? I have other devices at home. The only way I can make them disappear on the tracking list is by turning off location or resetting to factory settings.
I just want to make sure I'm not tracking a phantom that I will never recover :-(

Bluetooth is only supported for tethering.

I just tried installing them. I got the message that "Some updates failed to install" (including for CS5), to quit and try again. I was curious and tried again to print and lo and behold, I could print! I'm still nervous that not everything installed and wonder how to get a complete install.

Can you tell us more about your 2011 iMac, what App's you run on it and why you think it already needs to be replaced? Plus please tell us that you did not load MacKeeper or some other AV junkware on it?
It should not already be that slow, I have various Intel Mac's ranging from 2006 thru 2010 and none are what I would call slow.

I just bought a new MBP and started it up. Most of the computers on my local network are showing up as shared computers, but my iMac 27" is nowhere to be found, meaning I can't access the computer remotely and grab a file from it. Is this a setting I need to check on my new MBP or the iMac? If it's a setting, can you suggest how I make the change, so it turns up?

You need to enable the sharing on the iMac -- the one you can't see.
System Preferences > Sharing would be the place to do it. Compare the
current settings with one of the ones you can see.

How can I see other results (matches) in Messages on Mavericks?

I have a long message thread/conversation on my Mac (it's an iMessage conversation) that spans back several months now. I am trying to find all messages with a particular word in the message.
Example: I want to find all the messages in my Mac with the word "LOL" in. I type "LOL" in the search box in the Messages application. The result says that I have 300 matches, but when I click on the thread/conversation it only lets me see the most recent message sent or received containing the word "LOL"
How can I see previous messages containing a matched search term without scrolling through the entire message thread?
Seriously the message thread/conversation I'm talking about is HUGE. It is so big that it takes up over 300MB in my iPhone's storage... So going through it to find a particular message or two is going to be a nightmare just by scrolling up/down all day!
Can anybody help?

Figured it out!
Use Command-G or Edit > Find > Find Next to cycle through matches in the transcripts. Command-Shift-G and Find Previous let you reverse direction.

Open the AppleScript Editor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run the following:

This script will not allow you to access anything which is set not to be readable by your user account. The /dev/ folder on the startup disk is hardcoded to be hidden to the GUI and cannot be revealed in the Finder by this or any other method. To turn it off, replace the 1 with a 0.

I can't see my pictures in teh finder using Quick look or Cover flow

I have iPhoto8 installed and it works fine, but I cannot get a look at my library of photos without opening iPhoto. I thought I was supposed to be able to use the finder and cover flow to see my pictures quickly to find the one I wanted without opening iPhoto? When I go to pictures I get the icon for the iphoto program and it says iphoto library, but I cant see pictures. Am I doing something wrong?

With iPhoto 7 the old iPhoto Library Folder has become a Unix Style Package folder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Other options include:
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
All of these are safer and fster than surfing the iPhoto Library Folder.

How can you delete programs off the imac g5 osx 10.5.8 completly. My goal is to gain more memory/gigs because my speed is dragging not to mention i only have like 14 free gigs

My imac g5 osx 10.5.8 is running slow and getting froze alot some programs just take forever. If someone knows how to remove programs safely could you please help me. I don't want to make a mistake that's unfixable. Like, i.e ( operating firefox now ,but i have a safari app. Do i need safari ? Am i even running that at all ?) Also i have 4 dvd players-imovie,dvd player,mac the ripper and front row do i need all them ?

Are you sure you are using OS X Mavericks? OS X Mavericks is 10.9, so it looks like you are using an older OS X version. To check this, open  > About this Mac, and check Version.
To get Aperture from the Mac App Store, upgrade to OS X Mavericks. Open the Mac App Store and download OS X Mavericks. Make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
After upgrading, you will be able to purchase Aperture

I can't access my iPhoto library after downloading osx maverick

I recently installed OSX maverick, and now I can't get into iPhoto library. The message I get is this, "You can’t use this version of the application “iPhoto” with this version of OS X. You have “iPhoto” 9.2.1" . I'm not very technical so apologies if there is an obvious answer to this. Thanks.

Note 1: every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2: If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1
