I can't see video from an AVCHD clip in Quicktime 10.4

When I open up a camera video in AVCHD i can't see any video,  I just hear the Audio.  I'm using Quicktime 10.4 and my OS is Yosemite 10.10.1
I have 16 GIGs of Ram installed in my 3.5GHZ 6 core Intel Xeon E5 Mac Pro
Am I missing a codec?

Hello Dr Video,
That is interesting. It may have to do with the camcorder that you are have as it may use a codec when the video is recorded and may need to have that 3rd party codec installed for QuickTime to play it. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • Can you import the video from an AVCHD Disc into FCP7  for editing?

Can the video from an AVCHD Disc be imported into FCP 7 for re-editing if you have a normal Superdrive burner?
The reason I ask is because last night our film-making club gave a show of short videos to some guests.
At the end it was decided to put them all on one DVD to send to the visitors as a memento.
However, some of the films were on AVCHD discs and I queried whether they could be copied, even in standard definition.
The "copier" said it was no problem as he had a PC and had done it before . . . . . cheeky devil!
    So can it be done . . . . . on a PC or a Mac . . . . with a standard burner?
I have just tried but nothing in the BDMV folder can be imported.

    GOT IT!
Copy the BDMV folder from the AVCHD disc to the desktop.
Use HandBrake to convert the .m2ts files to H.264
Then convert the H.264 files to an editable format.
Rather convoluted process but it works.
    Anyone know a better method?

While I don't use a Mac, I belive you connect the device to the computer via USB and then import the file using a file utility similar to what you do when you import digital pictures. I'm guessing that the Mac has something like this?

What you've outlined in this part of the post is all that icloud stores for you outside of the backup. If you want to restore from the icloud backup you will then have for all practical purposes a carbon restoration back to your device if you restore from the icloud backup.

Syncing your device with itunes will then enable you to remove whatever photos you wish to remove from your device deleting them with the computer and not the iphone.

  • Can't import videos from Sony A55

I can't import videos from Sony A55. Anybody can?

    Fellows,
I have an A55 as well and iMovie 8.0.6 and can not import the AVHD movies. When I look into my Kingston SD card I get a directory with 5 folders, AVF_INFO, DCIM, MISC, MP_ROOT, and private. In private there is a folder called AVCHD, in which there are 3 folders, AVCHDTN, BDMV, AND IISVPL. In BDMV there is 3 folders and two files. The folders are CLIPINF, PLAYLIST, and STREAM. In STREAM there are the .MTS files. I have tried importing them, importing STREAM, and importing BDMV, all without success. Do you know what I am doing wrong, do I need the new iMovie, any other ideas ?
    Thank you

  • Need help with conversion progrma for MTS video files.  Can't download videos from Sony TX-10 camera

Have new macbook pro 13".  Can't download videos from our Sony TX-10 camera.  I understand I need some kind of conversion program for MTS video files.  Need recommendation for a good conversion program to convert the video files.
    Thanks, chieftd

Well, sigh, that's not going to work.
I love how I can do months of research to choose the best camera for my needs and budget, which is NO easy task these days, but surprisingly find it on the unsupported list when it's a very popular camera.  So, while it seems to support a whole bunch of other AVCHD options from Sony, not the NEX cameras.
The NEX cameras are the latest generation of mirrorless cameras (which, ironically, are great b/c they give dSLR quality still images while actually producing HD video that always records silently and stays in focus b/c it's mirrorless).  The NEX 7 was just reviewed as Camera of the Year.
    Bleh. Oh well. Maybe someday.
And, for anyone reading, Roxio Toast Titanium did convert it just fine but it took about 20 min or my time to set up a handful of clips and then a couple hours to complete converting them for the quality I was looking for.  One was about 10 minutes of a kids' performance on Christmas and it took a long time. It's just not feasible given how many video clips I do with the camera a week - well, feasible when you consider all the cameras where this would be seamless.
Thanks for posting your reply - I appreciate it.

Hi, I installed Flash Player 11.6.602.180 installed on Win 7 with IE and can never play videos from this site http://w3.newsmax.com/newsletters/uwr/video_hyman.cfm?s=al&promo_code=12CF6-1
any idea what this site is looking for ? thanks bill m

What do you see instead of the expected Flash content?

  • Can only watch videos from YouTube, but not from other websites.

I can only watch videos from youtube, but certain websites such as dailymotion.com , videos.sapo.pt, etc, the flash video does not load up. I´ve tried updating my video drivers, installing older versions of Adobe flash, but nothing has worked so far. Has anyone has this problem? IShould I be messing with the flash global settings?
    Thanks.

Hi, You may want to check the system requirements for the other sites. If you can watch videos on Youtube, then you must have Flash Player Installed properly.
Sometimes certain websites don't support or are late in supporting the latest version of Flash Player (10.1.102.64), so you might want to contact the websites on that.
You can use this link for setting and see if that makes a difference. Normally you would get a popup from the website to ask for this, but that would depend on how you have the Global Settings Panels set up.

  • Found an error related to "can't get video from Camera"

So, I am back with the same issue: it is now 3-4 months I can't Video chat because iChat AV tells me "can't get video from camera". I disable the firewall (for the test), I forwarded nearly ALL the TCP and UDP packets from my router to the mac, I stopped any application such as PostgreSQL or others which might interfeer. I checked I didn't have any strange firewall rules still on even when switched of from UserPreferences (sudo ipfw list)...
Well, I can see myself with the camera but it won't get the image of the party I am connecting to. So... I looked in the console and:
2006-03-04 19:09:14.926 iChat[9245] WARNING: Freeze-frame failed: couldn't get local buffer for layer Local!
Each time, this is the message.
I did the downgrade Quicktime test I also reinstalled the combined update... nothing worked.
It seems CRAZY that nobody at Apple can at least tell me WHERE to have a look. After all the message is not very clear. Where is the problem? My mac, my router, iChat?
I filed a bug BTW... because it DID work in the past and now stoped working, so my netgear router can't be in fault (I also checked the logs of the router and of the firewall... nothing seemed to be stoped)
    Alex

    Hi Alexander,
Defcom aslo has a Netgear And I will let him come back on that side.
On the error front iChat has about 4 standard messages.
    1) User did not Respond.
    2) Insufficient Bandwidth.
    3) Can not get Video from Camera
    4) Did not get data for 10 secs
Unfortunately the causes can overlap, hence the lack of Ahaa !!
The most common feature of all of them is something to do with the way the routing devices are set up.
This leads us to start with the LAN set up,
    The ports that are open,
the method used to open them,
Whether DHCP is being used with Port Forwarding as the IP can change to your computer and the Port Forwarding point to the "wrong" IP
How many devices are in the link to the Internet ?
IF you are doing NAT (Port Forwarding or Port Triggering) ?
Whether your ISP has started dong NAT to your service
Whether they offer a SIP based Service like VoIP phones.

  • Can you import video from a DVD?  If so how

Can you import video from a DVD? I have some home DVD's made on my PC. My PC program (Roxio) allowed me to pull clips off of a DVD, but I can not seem to figure out how to do it with iMovie on my Mac.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi, I'll see if I can help. The only way I know of importing directly from iMovie off of a DVD is with a converter box hooked up to an external DVD player. However there are a few freeware programs you could try. One is Handbrake, with it you can convert your DVD into a MPEG-4 file, this is incredibly easy however the quality will be a little lower than that of a DVD. Another program is MactheRipper which will rip the entire DVD onto your hard drive but you will have to hunt through all the files to find the ones you want. I hope this helps.

  • Suddenly can't see video in ichat

    Hi,
My girlfriend and I just got new MacBook Pros and we videochat in iChatAV. It all was working great but today the video stopped working. When I send her a video chat invitation or she send me one i can only see myslef on the screen. I can hear her fine and she can both see and hear me, but I can never see her. Her camera seems to work since she is able to take picutures in photobooth with the integrated camera. When she checks the preferences in the iChat she can also see herself on the screen and the video seems to work fine. However, as soon as we try to have a video conference the video fails. When she tries to check the video settings in preferences again she finds a pitch black screen. We tried to solve the problem but can't really get around it since everything seems to work fine and all the hardware from both systems are identical and integrated into the MacBook Pro. What should we do?

I have the same issue I think.
A Macbook pro 2Ghz running 10.4.6, and from a system which tested fine with Video iChat two days ago, I'm now getting an error message which says...
    Disconnected from Video Chat because
Can't get video from the camera.
Given that I can see my image in the same window which shows the error message, this is at best a confusing error message, and at worst, downright false.
Does it mean the camera of the other person in the video ichat? Does it mean my camera?
Can I do anything about it?
    None of the following works...
Starting garageband, starting photobooth, removing all ichat plist files.
I'll try the 10.4.6 update again, but I'm not optimistic.
I've come to rely on the facility to stay in touch with people, and it's really frustrating to have this on top of the usual (and more understandable) 'did not respond' messages and bandwidth limitation messages from firewall policies and network conditions.

  • Airport & Can't get video from the camera

Ok, So I've been reading through the discussions trying to figure out what's wrong, and then how to fix it. I keep getting error "Can't get video from the camera"
Here's my setup: OSX 10.4.4 on 1 Ghz PB. iChat 3.1.1, I'm connecting using a Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge with an analog camcorder attached. I can get a video preview, but no video chats.
My connection is via a DSL modem (Cisco 725) and my ISP says all the ports needed for iChat are not blocked. my local network goes from the Cisco to an Airport (dual ethernet) which then distributes the IP addresses.
I've read that airports need to be switched so that they do not control the IP addresses, but when I do that my network stops working. Is there any way around disabling the NAT on the airport?
    PowerBook G4 1MHz/1Gb   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi EdM
I think that I'm starting to see the light... Let me see if I have this right.
My PB has an IP of 10.0.1.4 via Sys Prefs, etc..
And the Airport is 10.0.1.1 and is distributing IP addresses (hence the 10.0.1.x IP numbers - right)
    Yep (so far)
So using Terminal I need to type:
set net entry add 10.0.1.4 5060 udp
    ...and so on...
Nope. You need to have Distributing Addrress deselected in the Airport if it is in the link
With the Modem doing DHCP you should get an IP from it (mostly 10.0.0.3 as the Airport will also be given one)
Once the Modem's issued IP appears on the Mac then you log on to the modem (10.0.0.1) in Terminal, and Forward the ports to the IP the Mac gets.
Your wife's PC is also likely to need some ports open for her Apps and this will be a different IP.
I have only brought some of the details from the Port Forward site so I would make sure you check any Read Me or manual (On the CD ? web site ?) that might give you more clear instructions.
I would set it up with the Airport Out of the loop first as this will confirm the modem is in DHCP mode (you will not get an IP otherwise).

  • How can i see movie from my mac to tv

how can i see movie from my macpro in to tv screen

Its not clear what MacPro you have.   If it is a newer one then the thunderbolt adapter will work.  If it's like mine, a 2008 model then you may face some issues.
If your MacPro is older and has DVI outputs for video then you are going to have to either use a TV with DVI in or get a DVI to HDMI or DVI to VGA, whatever your TV will accept as input.
Also if you have to go this way the DVI doesn't contain audio so you'd need another cable to move audio from your MacPro to your TV.   So this could get complicated. There might be some easier solutions.
As mentioned you might be able to airplay it to an apple TV if you have one.
