I can't send mail after updating to mavericks (10.9.2) . i have to quit and restart mail each time i want to send an email - i can't believe apple have done this so amateurishly - please can someone help ???
i cant use mail to send an email. it goes to my out box and then eventually comes up with this dialogue :
"An error occurred while sending this message using the SMTP server “(null)”
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent."
I have to click Try Later and then quit mail , then restart Mail and then if I am lucky the email will be sent. the next time I have to send an email the same thing happens . I have to click Try Later and then quit mail , then restart Mail and then if I am lucky the email will be sent. I have to go through this everytime i want to send an email. its a really time consuming vicious circle which is extremely annoying,
can someone help please ???????
From the Mail menu bar, select
Window ▹ Connection Doctor
Click the Show Detail button. A drawer opens. Try to send a message and post the text that appears. Anonymize any personal information before posting.

After updating with iTunes 12.1 for Windows 8.1, when I restarted my computer, my headphones no longer work. According to my computer they do. Is this an iTunes issue? I did the audio troubleshooting and it says everything is fine. I have a Toshiba Satellite L75D-A7280.

Just updated to Mavericks on my MAC. There is a pop-up that states:" Messages agent wants to use your confidential information stored in Facetime".
(brings up an email address and that it's in my keychain). Then it goes on to state, "Do you want to allow access to this item?" I am to click on always allow or deny or allow. After I updated to Mavericks, I can not open Preview, Dictionary, App Store, iBooks, Keynotes, Photobooth, Quicktime, Contact, Calender, etc...
Mail keeps crashing everything I opened it.

BTW, I remeber this symptom happened after I used Cleanmymac.Evi, I have the same problem. When I first updated to Mavericks, everything is OK, but I use Cleanmymac too, It is may be because of Cleanmymac, it cleaned about 1G files.

Do I have to use Edit-add link each time I want to add a URL in Mail?
There has to be another way to add a hyperlink (URL) like http://www.apple.com to a message in Mail- other than going to the menu, EDIT going to LINK and choosing add then typing or pasting in a box??
I mean even in the 15 year old Eudora Program I was using, if I type http://www.whatever.com I get an automatic hyperlink created! Please tell me that there is a way to set Mail to just interpret hyperlinks (URL's) to turn blue, get underlined and work when I just type or paste them in my message.

Tuesday 13 October 2009 at 19:28I am using Apple Mail 3.6 (Leopard) and it has been detecting/converting (or whatever you would like to call it) URL's I enter in the body of the email ever since I started using Mail. Unlike the original post of this message, for me Mail has been doing this almost as I type. Unfortunately, for me, I can't stand it!
I post a lot of files to our web server and then email clients and staff links to these files. The links I type tend to be a bit lengthy, about 60 characters or more - typical for web links. My frustration is that Mail will 'detect/convert' the URL to a link before I even finish typing it! I then have to place my cursor wherever Mail determined the end of the URL was in order to type the rest of the URL. This is because when Mail converts the URL it somehow takes me out of typing mode? I have to click in the body of the email again to resume typing.
Once I have finished typing the URL, I then need to select the URL portion that Mail identified and right-click 'Remove', otherwise the clickable link that gets sent in the email will error out because it is incomplete.
Finally, I have to select the entire URL, copy, right-click 'Link' and paste the URL into the Link popup. Frustratingly, sometimes, if I'm not fast enough, Mail will re-convert the original portion of the URL before I can click <OK> on the Link popup, which makes me have to start the process all over again! Very frustrating!
This detect/convert also occurs with email addresses. If I type an email address into the body of an email, Mail usually lets me finish typing it. However, while I might be a sentence or two after the email address I typed in, Mail will detect/convert the address to a link AND take me all the way back to the BEGINNING of the first email address so that as I am typing, my characters are being inserted in front of the email address!?! Again, very frustrating!
I have searched the web several times trying to find an answer to this. I finally came across a method for disabling 'Data Detectors' in Mail (see below if you want to know how to do this). However, frustratingly enough, this DID NOT disable the detect/convert of the URL and email addresses that I am talking about in this post. It only disables the detection of addresses, dates, names for use with the right-click 'Add to Address Book', etc. type of thing, which I don't mind keeping.
Does anyone know what I am talking about and have a solution for how to stop Mail from doing this? If so, I would be very thankful for a solution or any assistance. Thanks.
Disable Data Detectors
if you don’t like the data detectors that Apple added to Mail in Leopard, you can disable them by opening Terminal and typing...
defaults write com.apple.mail DisableDataDetectors YES
You have to quit Mail and restart it again. But after that, you're data detector free and loving it. Typing or pasting the exact same string, but changing "YES" to "NO," reverses the setting so that they're back on if you decide to change your mind. -
Required to quit and restart Mail to receive new IMAP Mail
I have a fresh install of leopard. While IMAP seems to be working ok with my gmail accounts, I am having problems with it and my university IMAP account. I am sitting at my desk, and my iPhone buzzes to let me know I have new mail to my university account... but it never shows up in my Mail.app inbox, until I quit Mail. Then when I restart mail, the new mail is there. What's going on? Thanks anyone for your advice.
This is also one of my problems with Leopard (among others like missing 'new mail' sound and - since 10.5.2 - dropping Airport connections). I have a Fastmail account and while IMAP seems to work fine with it for a while after having started Mail (as verified by sending mails from the web interface of one of my other email accounts to the Fastmail account), it stops responding to new Mail after I leave it alone for a while (20 min or so).
Manually checking for new mail doesn't help. When I open Mail's activity window by pressing 'cmd+0' I can see that it does connect to the server when I check manually, but it behaves like there is no new mail available. And yes, it is configured to use the IDLE command. Only restarting Mail.app will fetch the new mail.
On my mobile phone (Nokia E61i) this works perfectly, as soon as I get a new mail my phone notifies me of it immediately, so the IDLE command feature of the server works.
I'm really starting to be very disappointed by Apple. This is a standard feature of every decent mail client, this really has to work, and not only with .Mac accounts. I have installed Thunderbird now and while that indeed seems to work better I would hate to switch because Mail.app is really much more nicely integrated into the system. But if these problems persist I might end up having to do just that. -
Can't open Terminal after update to Mavericks
The activity monitor says the application is not responding. I reinstalled Mavericks a second time. I updated my ram to 4GB. The terminal window still will not open.
I installed iterm2 which seems to work fine.
Where can I find an error message for Terminal.

I have made an IMovie consisting of slides and some video. I cannot create a DVD with it. A window tells me there is a problem and that the problem is listed in the User parameters.....I am at a loss. There are hours of work in the Movie. Anyone have a thought? HELP

I fixed the problem.. but it was very, very strange. I had a very long section for credits and set the line spacing to 1.0.. for some reason this caused it. I removed it, and it worked fine. I put it back, and I couldn't preview or play the video.
I don't know why that could cause that big of a problem, but it did..

After phone support from apple I ended up creating a new project and adding all 117 clips back in individually till I found out what clips flagged and would not allow me to export. I had 3 I deleted and replaced and everything works now 1hr after tedious work....

Message won't send unless i quit and restart mail
I compose the message and hit send and i get the turning wheel symbol and it just keeps on turning. If I quit mail and then re-start mail, the "out box" messages send immediately. What's going on?
I've tried every possible solution for this problem -- cleared cache, reinstalled Windows, updated Firefox and Flash, even installed the beta 64-bit version of Flash -- NOTHING helps. Since no one seems to have any ideas about this problem, I'm throwing in the towel on Firefox. The problem has never occurred in IE.

I have no additional information. My file tab has been redone and it does not lists a "close tab" which is a real pain when trying to look at houses and can't close a tab but it exits as only option, can i go to the previous system as this is not working for me
I am not entirely sure hat you are trying to do.
If you have several tabs open in firefox the active tab will contain a cross and can be closed by clicking that cross. The others do not display crosses but if right clicked give options to close, or to close other tabs.

I have Firefox in the Windowspartition of my computer and in the Linuxpartition of my computer, I have a third partition where I store my personal data, such as my Firefox-profile-map and my download-map.
If I don't manually delete "Parent Lock" Firefox won't start saying that there is already a session open.
It would be better not to have this parentlock-system.It would be better to use two separate profiles for each Operating System and sync the data between the two as there may be other problems as well with the caches that current Firefox versions use and other files that store OS dependent file paths.
