I can't set iTunes as my default player

I run on XP... Ok so today i tried to set iTunes as my default player and every time i tried it said i didn't have enough privelages to do that.
I tried it in itunes, then in program access and defaults. Still didnt work(i didnt get the message tho.
I think it may have something to do with the fact that last night i rolled back to windows media player 10 last night because of issues with it not working online(it still doesnt work with 10 tho.its a prob with the proxy setting. If you know how to fix it tell me please)
Ok so if anyone knows the force code or w/e i can type into "Run" or if anyone knows any other way to solve this please help!

The only thing I can suggest to try, is that you go into Windows Media Player Options>File types, and deselect everything except for the types that have to be played in WMP.

• Can't set Firefox as my default animated GIF viewing program.

I want to set Firefox as my default GIF image viewer, since Windows has no way of viewing them and Internet Explorer plays them back too slow. They run fine in Firefox but I can't set it as the default program. I click "firefox.exe" and it doesn't recognize that I clicked. I didn't have this problem with previous versions of Firefox.

It would be really nice if someone from Mozilla could respond. Otherwise, most of us are looking to jump to Opera, IE or Chrome.

when i play a song from my itunes library, there is a short "buzzing" sound about every 20-30 seconds. This same thing happened some time ago, and i thought i had it sovled by verifying that itunes was my default player. Howerver, it has started up again. Any ideas how to fix the problem??

I am having the same problem I have over 11.5 GB of .tmp files, many 1000s. Here is a thread I have found with some more info:

That thread is almost a year old so I'm not holding out hope for a fix from apple. I'm going to try deleting them and see how it goes...

• I can't set iTunes language to Spanish

I set iTunes language to Spanish but although I restart iTunes it is still in English.
Is this a iTunes bug?
Thanks
*My version of iTunes is 9.2.1.5 running in a Windows 7 laptop.

If you wish to run iTunes in a language that is not the default for the country that you are living in (and therefore paying from), the iTunes helpdesk point to this article. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2242 . This article indicates that the iTunes store should pick up the language you have assigned to your MAC, however this is incorrect. iTunes picks up the language from the country you designate you are paying from.
You can change the country by using the flag button at the extreme bottom of the iTunes home page, however this will allow you to find the things you want, but you must change it back to actually purchase the content.
If you think, as I do, that this is a fault with their system, the ONLY option you have is to complain to their helpdesk, email address [email protected] If you ask to have the e-mail referred to Ashley, maybe the sheer weight of complaints will get this sorted.

• When I open a new tab, I have to move to the other side of the page to click "home". Can I set the same "home" default for new tabs?

My home page opens in the initial FireFox window, but new tabs open with a blank page. To get to my default page I have to click "home", but now it's way over on the other side of the page.
Can I set a default for new tabs?

right click on the control bar and choose "adapt" (or something like that). A window will pop up. Ignore that window and move the home button to the place you want it ''on the control bar''

• Reader prints pdf file in mirror image, can't set off as a default that holds.

ts pdf file in mirror image, can't set
off in advanced printer preferences as the default,
has to be turned off each time4 manually.

• Can you set Reader X's default Print orientation?

Hello -
We have a myriad of web docs provided in PDF form. These are launched in a browser window using IE9 or 10. These are various and sundry parts inventory lists and we are constantly calling them up to print, then dismising them until the next context based request. IOW, the parts lists are not static, otherwise I'd tell everyone to just keep the one they get up on the screen. They are produced by our corp HQ so we have no control over how they are authored.
When these docs appear in the browser window, they are in landscape mode (or at least appear to the eye to be). When we print however they're printing in portrait mode -UNLESS- you remember to select landscape in the print dialog window before you hit <OK>. So, why don't we just remember to do that? We're humans, I guess. And the other thing is the authoring office completely disables all Reader menus, toolbars and other screen elements. You do get a small bar area near the bottom with controls to zoom in/out and print, etc. So I was trying to attack this by calling up Reader at the workstation level to see if I could adjust.
I've looked extensively through Reader's excellent menu system trying to find a way to set Reader to always print landscape. Of course, I can't find it. Then it occurred to me that perhaps this is not a Reader issue and perhaps is a printer driver issue. However, if we default the printer driver to landscape then we're facing the same problem with other applications that require printing like MS Word and so forth. So that's not a real good option.
So, let me ask then if Reader does or does not have a default setting that can be set and that can persist session to session? Even if I did this once a day, it would be better than having to hear the 'Gosh darn it' arias all throughout the day! How about a launch script or launch switch? Anyone know of one?
Thanks, all.

• I can not set Yahoo as my default search engine in my Firefox. How can I fix it?

My Firefox's default searc h engine is Google. I have updated my Firefox to 35.0, but still I can not set Yahoo as default search engine.
Please help me to fix this probeblem. I want to use Yahoo for searching.
Thanks,

Check these out;
Book mark and use this;
'''Download the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Mozilla Search Reset]''' {web link}
This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up
and then resets your search preferences and home page
to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This
affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home
page.
'''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchthissite/ SearchThisSite]''' {web link}
Allows you to search the website currently viewed with
the website's internal search engine (and not the default
FF search engine or an external engine)
'''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-to-search-bar/ Add to Search Bar]''' {web link}
Make any pages' search functionality available in the Search Bar

• Unable to set iTunes as the default audio player - do not have enough access privileges for this operation

I have just upgraded to iTunes 10.5.1.42 (from 10.5.0.143).
When iTunes is launched, a message from iTunes came up saying:
iTunes has detected that it is not the default player for audio files. Do you want to make iTunes the default player for audio files?
[ ] Do not show this message again
[ Yes ] [ No ]
Clicking the Yes button, another iTunes message appears:
An error occurred while updating the default player for audio file types. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.
[ OK ]
I found in Googles as well as from some of my own notes dated a few years back which others (and myself) encountered the same problem before. I don't recall what was the solution to this annoying problem. Maybe I should just check the first box and tell iTunes to "shut up"? It seems that iTunes is already the default program designated to open audio files like MP3, WAV or what not. Why does it need to be set as the default player again?
Come to think about it, I do have a few files with .aup as extension. These were played with "audacity". Perhaps that upsets iTunes player?

• Can I set gmail as my default email client?

I am having trouble with Apple Mail and would prefer to use gmail as my default email client. Is there any way to do that in aperture?

Gmail is not a Mail Client. It's a mail service that needs a client to access it. That client can be a Web Browser, or an app like Mail, Entourage, Thunderbird etc. So, no you cannot set Gmail as the default email client. It's a bit like saying can I make HBO my Television Set.
If you want to use an app as default mail client in Aperture then the chosen app has to be scriptable, and that limits your options. There are only four supported: Mail, Entourage, AOL and Eudora.
Alternatively, you can access the Library from any Mail client or service via their Attach options:
In any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*+(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)+*
Or any Media Browser.

• HT1386 I don't have a computer. How can I set iTunes to sync with wi-fi?

I have an iPhone & iPad and don't have a computer how can I sync iTunes ?

You cannot sync the two devices over WiFi at all. You can turn on automatic downloads on both devices in Settings>iTunes & App Stores>Automatic Downloads>Apps>On, whatever you download on one device will download to other device as well.

• Can't set Safari as true default browser in windows xp

I'm running WindowsXP, and I installed the latest version of Safari. No matter what I do, it won't become the true default browser. I tried using the Safari preferences approach which only has one effect - it changes the icon at the top of the start button task bar to Safari. However, all my links from the desktop, from start...run <type url>, and from MS Outlook all lauch IE. I've also tried changing all the settings in the start...set program access and defaults and nothing will make Safari my default browser.

I don't have access to "Set Programs and Defaults" on my machine. Safari's ability to set itself as web browser, at least on Windows XP, seems to be broken. But I found a workaround. Install Firefox, let it set itself as default browser. Your hyperlinks and such should open in Firefox. Uninstall Firefox. Open up Safari, go to preferences and make sure Safari is set as default browser. Then, at least for me, the hyperlinks started opening in Safari. If you go into Safari and set Internet Explorer as default, you'll probably hose the setup and have to do it again.
