I can't set my new phone up

I've got an Iphone 4 today and when I plug it into my laptop (Itunes been set up for a few years) its not doing a thing. My laptop just asks if I want to import items from my device. Itunes doesn't seem to even notice it's there. Help me please, its doing my head in! Is it my Itunes??

I believe because you migrated from a Nokia to an iPhone you need to register the Bn phone number with your Apple ID so it can be used for iMessage. The Pn number seems to be the only one registered

Actually, wrong!! If you try to restore using a computer the phone hasn't synced with, you'll have to enter the passcode into iTunes during the restore.
In my experience, the most effective method for people who simultaneously "forget" the passcode that they had to use many times a day, and mysteriously lose access to the computer the phone synced with, is to ask the rightful owner for the passcode or return the phone to him.
There is another method involving recovery mode, but the OP is on his own for that.
Question: Is is better to let your data "loose", or lose your data?

Restore Vs Set Up New Phone

I just set up my new iPhone 4 but when I was syncing it I selected restore settings instead of set-up new phone. Is there a way I can un-do this or is it no big deal?

There are only two things that you must do to connect a device to calendars:
1) In settings>icloud, you must log in, WITH THE CORRECT ID/PASSWORD, and
2) Turn on calendars on the same page.
