I can't set up a personal domain  in iWeb

Hi,
I currently use Mac Oc X Lion. I just also bought a domain name. I want to set this up so I can work directly from iweb, I am being redirected to sign into mobileme, when I do that, I am redirected to icloud. from here I don't see the instructions mentioned in HT1107. I don't know where to go from here. Please help.

You can't do what you want to because blog.com is not a host or server - it is free and it very much like Wordpress.com in that you can create a free blog and website and when you publish, the blog gets published to their servers, so yourname.blog.com or yourname.wordpress.com.  There is the possibility to upgrade as you have done and purcahse a your own domain name that you can use, but it only links to blog.com and you can't upload anything different because it is not a proper host.
If you want to use an iWeb site with a domain name, then you need to get a proper host or server - others have mentioned what hosts/servers are here and they are hosts such as http://www.godaddy.com or http://www.hostexcellence.com.
If you want to host an iWeb site, then you'll need to purcahse proper hosting from a proper hosting company - blog.com is NOT a hosting company.  You can register a domain name to use with their blogs, but no more than that.

  • Can i set up a purchased domain with iWeb?

I made a website in iWeb. I have a domain purchased through google apps. my domain is jonahdelso.com.
HOW CAN I CONNECT THE TWO? I thought I knew what I was doing, and now I realize that I might have made a mistake by purchasing a domain through google apps, because i don't know how to configure the domain to connect to the web.mac.com servers. ANY HELP? ANYONE?

The use of a Personal domain is VERY extensively discussed in this forum and the [MobileMe Personal domain|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1163] forum.
You MobileMe account also has a Help where it is explained. See picture below.
iWeb is not involded in setting up your domain at Google. If you make mistakes then no doubt Google can help you mend it.
For the record: you have to add a CNAME at your domain host. [Google has the FAQs|http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/search.py?query=cname&ctx=en%3Asearchb ox&Action.Search=SearchHelpCenter]

  • Setting up a Personal Domain

I am using iweb 08 and trying to set up my personal domain to be used with my iweb site. I changed all the CNAME etc, but when I type in the personal domain in mobile me it says "We are unable to configure domains at this time. Please try again later." Waiting and trying again later doesn't make a difference because I constantly get this message. Has anyone been able to resolve this? Thanks

  • Can I set up my own domain email and FTP with iCloud?

    Hi,
I have my own domain name and I would like to have my own domain email using iCloud. Is that possible?
Also, if I buy storage, can I set up a FTP so I can share files with working clients?
I noticed Google Apps let you do these things but since I am a Mac guy I am wondering if iCloud would be easier to set up and manage it.
    Thanks for any feedback.

You cannot use your own domain name with iCloud email - it handles only its own email. The only thing you can do is forward email from your domain's email account to iCloud, but then you can't answer using it as you can only send using iCloud's outgoing server with the iCloud address as the 'From' address.

  • I can't set up my personal email account

Hi!  am hoping someone might be able to help.  My storm was delivered this morning and I have been unable to set up my personal email accounts through the setup wizard.  I only have the option to set up a work email account using a Blackberry Enterprise server and NOT add or create an account.
I've already completed the suggestions of a previous post

i.e. setting up mailing account with vodafone and trying to activate on the wireless network but nothing seems to work.  Am I just being too impatient?? Do I have to wait for activation?  Or am I just stupid?!?!?
    Any suggestions much appreciated.

Rick you need to call them and let them know you have a new BlackBerry and have them register the PIN and IMEI number on your account, and re-establish the BIS account to your SIM.

  • I cannot publish my to personal domain from iWeb via the publish button.

Ive registered the domain at mobile me and entered the cname at the registrar and still nothing. when i publish and its done i go to visit now and the site comes up but when i hit a link from somewhere else like google, i get the old unupdated site.

Firstly, no you do not register a domain name at MobileMe. MobileMe does not register domain names, it just hosts them. So what you actually did was enter your domain name into your MobileMe account under the Personal domain name settings.
Have you checked for sure that you have set up CNAME forwarding correctly? Check that you have as you need to forward your domain name (alias) to web.me.com (host).
Sometimes CNAME forwarding can take a little time, so you might find that your updated site is there now. What you can do however is go back into iWeb and publish the site again, so click publish all to MobileMe and this might work having set up to connect with your domain name.
You could also go and check your iDisk to see if the most current site is in your iWeb sites folder.

  • Anyone have a problem submitting podcast to a personal domain with iWeb 08?

I created a new website with several podcasts and published fine to a personal domain. Works great. When I try to submit the podcasts to iTunes through iWeb I get the following error message:
"We had difficulty reading this feed. Bad http result code:401"
Anyone else get this? Is the personal domain messing with the feed?
    Any help appreciated.

Well... I have mine from godaddy...
In iWeb06 the redirect was a long URL... now it's shorter (or so it seems).
GoDaddy still handles the redirect - like it did before.
The change happens in the CSS scripting (HTML?) where iWeb thought it needed to send the RSS to www.threeboysproductions.com it wasn't taking in iTunes.
Forcing iWeb to rewrite the RSS script to web.mac.com/captmench.
People wanting to go to www.tbp.com still can... and see it as such. The subscribe at iTunes won't matter.
    Good luck,
    CaptM

  • Delete personal domain from iWeb

now that .mac moved to .me when ever i post a site it publishes to the personal domain that is listed in my profile but i don't want it published there but rather to the automatic url that mac provides (i.e. http://web.mac.com/username/Site...)
how do i removed a personal domain from my profile?
i found no preferences within iweb to do this, nor was i able to do it when i log into my mobile me settings (there i see the personal domain but no way to remove it)
    thanks!

Do you have a domain name that you have set up with iWeb and MobileMe? If you linked that name to just the default MobileMe URL, http://web.mac.com/username/, then any new site that is published will become the default that the domain name sends you to. You need to point the domain name to the specific site, http://web.mac.com/username/yoursite_foldername/index.html, in order to isolate the other sites from your domain name.

  • Returning multiple sites from personal domain to iweb domain

I have a family web site that I've posted to my .mac account. I've been asked to update another web site for a preschool that had been created previously by another mac user. She emailed me the domain and I was able to open it and make edits. I created two separate folders to keep the domain files separate. A few problems have happened since:
First, I can still access my personal account in both iweb and via the internet, but the address that appears at the bottom of the page is now the preschool address. I want this account to remain hosted on my imac account.
Secondly, for the preschool, the site should be hosted on personal domain. The site does show up on the bottom of that site (the same now as my personal one). What I would like it to post a temporary version of the password protected revised site on my .mac account until I am ready to replace the one that is currently up.
So, I guess my biggest question for the moment is how do I return both sites to the .mac host until I am ready to upload one of them onto the preschool personal domain?
When I go to the iweb folder in my idisk I can not move the folders containing the separate sites.
I have read other posts regarding multiple domains and they have not fully addressed this issue.
    Many thanks, Emily.

Was the other mac user using the personal domain (CName) feature of iWeb?
Were you using it as well with your family site?
This might be the problem, as you can only use the personal domain feature with one iWeb site.

Can I open my own iTunes account using my partners mac, if he already has an itunes account of his own?

Do you mean you want your own iTunes library on his computer?
    Yes.
Easiest way is to create a new user login on the computer, then you will have your own content.
An iTunes account is setup in the iTunes store to make purchases. It's just like a credit card or bank account.

  • Having trouble setting up my personal domain.

When going to my site it says not found: resource does not exist. The site works fine on web.me.com/rdenis though. Go daddy says i have done everything correctly with them so it must be a problem with MobileMe. Any ideas to what it could be? The only question I have is... do i enter web.me.com as the Cname? or would I enter web.me.com/rdenis as the Cname?
Anyone know why this is happening?

got it to work!!! nevermind. finallyyy yes

  • Multiple Web Sites with Personal Domain Names - Overview

I have read through the last 10 pages of these discussions and have almost worked this out, but I need some help.
    Problem:
I want to publish and edit two separate web sites with their own, individual, personal web addresses
from the same user account on the same Mac using iWeb '08 (2.0.2) and my .Mac account
    _So far:_
I have purchased and registered the two domain names (with Cheap-DomainRegistration.com)
I have configured the CNAME to point to web.mac.com, and "Set up a Personal Domain" in iWeb successfully, but using a separate Mac for each web site.
    The two sites work great.
_What (I think) I need to know:_
(excuse me for copying these posts out, but I can't find a way to link them to this post)
    1) Should I be using iWebSites as suggested by Old Toad (posted Jan 24 in response to StAnNe's "Multiple Websites--HELP!!!")?
I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
    2) Should I be using Mireille's approach (also posted Jan 24 in response to StAnNe's "Multiple Websites--HELP!!!")?
Yes you are correct in the thought that with a family pack you can use different accounts and that is the easiest way to upload with one click to .mac. But it is still possible to publish differents sites to one .mac account if that is all one has. Even if the sites are in one domain file each purchased mysite.com domain name purchased can be pointed to a different page in the site
    Look at it this way
    Original Poster has
site1 page 1 page 2 and so on
then he/she has brothersite page 1 and so on.
They each have a domain name purchase wherever
then site1domain.com is forwarded to site 1 page1
and brotherdomain.com is forwarded to brothersite page 1.
Even though both sites are in the same file they do not have anything to do with each other.
This is one possibility there are others but for a novice user this could be the way to go for simplicity.
(Mireille, if you're there, can you clarify what you said - thank you)
    3) Would I use Roddy's fix (posted Jan 23 in response to canadensis' "Publishing Multiple Websites?")?
Here's an example of how you can separate two websites that are on the same domain file.
    Quit iWeb
Create a new folder on your desktop and call it "iWeb Sites".
Inside this folder create two more - Website A, Website B.
Go to Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb and copy your domain file - command C
Paste this into folders A and B - command V - and also paste a copy of it somewhere else - like in Docs - in case you make a mistake!
Double click the domain file in the folder Website A - this will launch iWeb.
In the left column, delete site B, save and quit iWeb.
Double click the domain file in the folder Website B to launch iWeb.
Delete website A, save and quit.
Drop the iWeb sites folder into your Home Folder.
If you want quick access to this folder you can highlight it and do command L to create an alias to leave on the desktop.
From now on, to launch any site in iWeb you open its folder in the iWebsites folder and double click the domain file.
This is not necessary when you are working on only one site as iWeb saves the domain file of the last site you were working on to Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb. When you open the iWeb application, the last site you worked on will be launched.
    Summary:
I'm not sure if some of the answers in previous discussions allow for personal domain names, which is what I need.
I would be very grateful for any suggestions as I'm getting bogged down.
    Many Thanks,
    Jeff

When you said, "you don't need to do CNAME for both sites…", would this method still allow me to use personal web addresses for both sites?
Yes. With "Ordinary Forwarding" you normally just type your .Mac url (web.mac.com/username/sitename) into a form at the place where you have your name.
I thought I was using 'web.mac.com' as the 'www' CNAME (alias) for my personal domain name (web address), so that when someone typed in my personal domain name they would 'go' to the domain registration location, which would then pass it on to the .Mac server, where my web site is hosted.
That's exactly right. It's just not the only way to do that. Ordinary Forwarding is another way, but it differs in terms of what appears in the address bar of the browser. Either you will see web.mac.com/username/.... or, if you add "masking", you will see your personal name for all pages. The CNAME method results in a address bar that reads www.myname.com/sitename/pagename.html.
    Am I way off?
    All help gratefully received,
    Jeff
