  • How can I set up mail in OSX.1?

I have an old iMac flatpanel that I have just repaired and have installed OSX.1.5 on it. How can I set mac mail up to work on it?

"OSX.1.5" is not a valid OS identification.
    Is the Mail app installed?

I am not sure I understand you question, but if you are attempting to set up an iCloud email account, you can start in System Preferences >  iCloud > Account Details. Establishing the details of your iCloud (a.k.a. Apple) ID there automatically creates the account in Mail

  • Sister can't set up Mail on macboook running 10.7.3

    I

Sorry about the blank above. Tried to recover a post I started late last night, and it didn't work.
I sent my sister my old MacBook after booting into recovery partition and doing a clean (erased Lion partition first) install. It now runs 10.7.3.   As part of the reinstall, had to register it again, and that created an accunt for me. I then added two accounts for my sister and shipped it out to her. BTW, computer had had Apple Care, but that expired over a year ago, and I upgraded the HD and RAM since then.
My sister can't set up her main email account in Mail, even though she carefully input the credentials she has (and which work just fine for her) on her iMac and iOS devices. She even checked with her internet provider to verify that what she was inputting was correct. When she went to Apple online with her problem,  it kept telling her that the birthdate she put in was invalid.  She even tried using mine, but it didn't work. My questions are:
    1)What is causing this?
    2) Is there anything I need to do or that she can do from home -or does she have to go to her nearest Apple store's Genius Bar?
    Please advise, thanks. Faye

  • How can i set up mail rules from an iPad?

I am familiar with using rules to filter email.
From my Mac at home I acces iCloud.com and have no problems.
I went away for the long weekend, and brought only my iPad.
I started receiving spam from a new source and wanted to filter it out.
From safari, when I go to iCloud I only have three choices, none of them useful.
I have tried to use different URLs but always get redirected to /ipad_welcome/
Is there a way to do this?
Or does the post-PC device still need a PC?

I think there is not a good solution for it (yet). The best solution is to check if you mailserver provides a spam filter solution. I use Gmail and it provides a filter on the serverside. This means the mail is filtered befor I receive it on my iPad (and iPhone). You can also set up a gmail account as a exchange and push all the filtered folders.

  • Can't set up mail using a long used .mac account.

I'm trying to set up my new iPad and can't get my mail set up. I've had an account with MobileMe all the way back to when it was .Mac and I still use that account on my iMac, Powerbook and iPhone. Under Mail, Contacts, Calendars to add an account I select MobileMe. The only information I'm prompted to fill out is Apple ID and Password. No area to add Name or Description was given. I entered the Apple ID I've had for years as well as password and a blank window comes up with a Cancel and Save button. I click Save and the account shows up but has Inactive under the name.
I've deleted this account and tried again as well as trying to enter it as a .Me account. When I do that I get the message "MobileMe Mail Not Available. This Apple ID cannot be used for MobileMe Mail, but you can use it for other MobileMe services. There are two buttons to choose from.... "Don't Add" and "Add Anyway".
When I add a different .Me account, one that I've only had for a year or less I have no problems. It acts as the primary account on my device.

When it says "Inactive" that just means that you don't have that account turned on in Settings. If you don't turn it on it doesn't appear anywhere else in Mail.

  • Can I set-up mail to retrieve mail ?

Can I set up my mac mail to retrieve mail from my Yahoo mail account then delete the maill from yahoo mail but keep the mail on my PC?  I us to be able to do this with Outlook mail but I am now using the apple mail that came with my PC.

That would mean that you have the Yahoo maill account configured as an IMAP or Exchange account. What you describe is how IMAP/Exchange works and can't be changed.

  • HELP!  Can i set up mail application using my MSN hotmail account????

can i use my hotmail address in the mail application, and how can i set it up??? i can't seem to figure it out!!!!

Unfortunately hotmail requires you to pay a fee to have your e-mail go through a mail application, like Apple Mail. Contact their customer service to see about fees, as well as set up process.

  • Can I set new mail to top on iPhone 5s??

Can I set up my iPhone to bring new or unread mail to the top just like on a mac?

No with the built in app. However, there are lots of mail apps in the App Store. Depending on who your email provider is, one of them may meet your needs.

  • HT201320 setting up mail in ios 6 problems

While setting up mail on my iphone 5, the account (Both gmail and Yahoo) gets stuck on "adding account" and eventually times out.  I have had 3 iPhones prior, iPads and have never had this problem before.  Is it an ios 6 problem??? Thanks!

Perhaps you have a corrupted Mail preferences file.  If you are familiar with using the command line from the Terminal application, I would suggest you try this:
    plutil -lint /Users/<your user name>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
My file was fine, so I received this response:
    /Users/<your user name>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist: OK
Your results may vary if the plist file for Mail on your machine contains syntax errors.

  • How can I set Apple Mail to not remember MobileMe password

For security reasons, I'd like to set Apple Mail to prompt me for my MobileMe password when ever I open the program but there is not option for this in the preferences.
I have accomplished this with my other(non-MobileMe) mail accounts by just erasing the passwd from these accounts in the accts. prefs. Apple Mail prompts me to enter those email acct passwds when I open Apple mail BUT when I try this with my MobileMe acct. I will get a prompt to enter my MobileMe password but I also get this error:
"You entered an invalid MobileMe member name or password. Verify your MobileMe member name and password in MobileMe System Preferences."
and I lose my MobileMe passwd in the MobileMe Acct settings in System Prefs.
Anyone have a solution for Apple Mail to prompt me for MobileMe password

This problem was solved by the suggestion given by Ralph Johns in this post:

  • Can't set up mail with yahoo email address..

I apologize if this has already been asked, but in setting up Mail, i keep getting an error while trying to set up my yahoo account. Will the mail program work with web based email? if this has been asked before, please direct me.
    Thanks!
    -Ryan

    Hi Ryan
Mail will not work with Yahoo's free email service, but will work if you have the paid Yahoo service. This is because the free service does not allow mail access by POP mail clients.

  • Can't set up Mail

I recently opened a e-mail account with Google (gmail), I followed the instructions on the following link and can not get the Mail program to sync up with my e-mail account on gmail, does anybody know what the deal is? Thanks
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13275

Are you getting any error messages? Did you follow the instructions exactly? Just leaving out one crucial step is enough to not have it work.
You do have to enable POP access in Gmail from the Settings section of your account; check that to be sure it's enabled.

  • Can't set up mail (cox)

OK, this is weird. I found another similar thread, but not enough information to help me figure this out. I tried cox as well, but they don't know a thing about Macs, so they use it as an out and don't help.
I went to set up mail, with my cox west account that I have on my iMac. I entered the correct settings, and then a certificate came up that didn't match, and it asked me if I wanted to trust it. It's origins are from Africa, and it says spop instead of pop at the beginning.
That thread said to turn off SSL, and I couldn't open preferences until I trusted that certificate, so I did, then turned it off and tried to re enter the account. It just starts over with my name already there, and the password, and the whole things starts over again, with that certificate. Though it loaded my account, I was unable to send emails, because it's on the wrong server port. I called cox, and got the one it's supposed to be, but still no go.
As of now, I deleted the account again. Not sure what to do. Cox says call Apple. Not sure if they'll know. Anyone have this problem?
