I can't sync my iPod Touch with my new Macbook.

I'm having trouble syncing my iPod touch with my new Macbook Air and I don't know what to do. I've managed to get all my music and films etc. off my old iTunes library but when I plug my iPod into the computer, it doesn't come up with the typical 'erase/replace or transfer' message that you get when you plug it into other computers. Someone please help because it is driving me insane. The iPod was originally synced with a Windows computer and I think this might be what is causing my problem but I really need help fixing it. I'm having the same problem with Windows 7, iTunes has been spotty about recognizing my iPod Touch. Now that I've updates Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 (June 2011), It won't complete a sync or a restore at all on either of my Windows 7 computers.
I have gone through every troubleshooter action recommended by Apple Support, and have not been able to improve the situation at all.
I took my Touch to the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store after trying and failing to complete a restore while troubleshooting, and it restored just fine from a Mac. Unfortunately, it now gives me an error meesage (Incompatible device) half way through an attempted sync, or iTunes simply freezes.
I even tried removing the Windows SP1, but that was a mess, as my display went all whacky and iTunes crashed immediately upon startup.
The Windows 7 OS ***** in general, particularly with compatibility issues, and not just for Apple products.
Does anyone know how to remedy this situation?
I'm so frustrated and have wasted so much time on this issue that I'm going to throw it all out the window!

Keep in mind that you can't drag and drop (transfer) songs from one iPod to another using iTunes either. The music you want to add from one iPod to the other, must be stored in your iTunes library first.

1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPad but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPad with it.

I used to sync my iPhone 4 with a PC running Windows XP until the hard drive died. Thankfully, I already had a backup of all my iTunes media (Songs, TV Shows, Movies, Podcasts, Apps, etc), so when I bought a new MacBook Pro, transferring my iTunes library was easy.
My problem now is that I want to sync my iPhone 4 with my new MacBook Pro without losing all the data and settings. I have already used iTunes to back it up and transfered my purchases onto the mac. I just need help to sync the iPhone with the Mac without losing app data, emails, contacts, settings.
Everytime I click on the tabs (to sync contacts, apps, music, et al), I get an error message that reads:
"Are you sure you want to sync apps? All existing apps and their data on the iPhone “Ryan's iPhone” will be replaced with apps from this iTunes library."
What do I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just wish I had not gone to iTunes 9.1 - anyway back? It crashes plus it won't sync my iPod Touch photos at all - none visible on my iPod Touch. Bad...
If anyway to reinstall iTunes 9.0.1 let me know!

NOTE: If you have not kept a copy of your iTunes Library from 9.0.1 before upgrading to 9.1, then the 9.0.1 version cannot open the 9.1 version of the library. (That's one problem with backing-up everyday!!)-- Fortunately I also keep a 1 month backup on yet another external HD. Not a bad thing to do! So I didn't get my full current library back, but most- and I now have iTunes 9.0.1 which has not crashed- YES!

Why can't I sync my iPod touch with a new computer without deleting everything?

I recently got a new laptop, but now when I try to sync my iPod touch, it says "The iPod "Jessica's iPod" could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized for purchased items that are on this iPod". I have authorized my computer, and when I try to authorize it again it says "This computer is already authorized".

Maybe:

After syncing my ipod touch with a new computer, will an icloud backup restore my app data including game progress?

I have an ipod touch which I have USB synced in the past on my Windows Vista laptop.
Now I want to stop USB Syncing with the laptop and USB start syncing instead with my Windows 7 Desktop machine instead.
Both PCs have the latest version of itunes running and I have transferred all purchases from the ipod to the Windows 7 desktop machine.
Home sharing is turned on on both PCs, so now their libraries appear identical.
The ipod has the latest IOS installed, and I have set up automatic icloud back ups for the ipod.
If i USB sync the ipod with the windows 7 desktop PC it warns me that all data will be erased, and replaced with data from that computer. I know that this will mean that all game progress is lost since it is not included in a USB sync backup and virgin copies of all the apps will be loaded onto the ipod.
My Question is this;
What is the best way to keep the app data intact on the ipod?
Do I simply carry out a USB sync with the Windows 7 desktop PC, let it wipe all the game save info away, and then resore an icloud backup onto the ipod?
Will this result in me being able to sync with the Windows 7 desktop PC and keep my game save data intact?

All the apps have to be in the iTunes library so the app data will have a place to go.
- Or just restore from iCloud backup. That will also pull down the apps from iCloud. Your apps data will also be restored.

You can't sync iDevices directly by connecting them with a cable.
You can transfer your app and game purchases into iTunes on your computer, backup the Touch and then restore the iPad from the Touch backup and sync with iTunes in order to transfer the games and the game data onto the new iPad.
