I can't sync my new MacBook Pro with iPhone

I got a new MacBook Pro with Lion OS and cannot make it sync to my iPhone G3

Can you be a little more specific? Do you mean you have set the sync options on the Device pages, Clicked Sync and it does not work, or you can't find the sync pages.

I have how ever a Bootable Cabon Copy clone of my Hard drive, can I use this?? will the New mac reconise it as another mac computer and sync with it on the setting up of OSX?
I Could just clone my drive on to the new computer but I want to take this opportunity to Clean out my mac and I dont want to transfer years of Back ground files on to my new machine.

How can I connect my new MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion to my hp b210 printer?  My printer is about 1.5 years old and works wirelessly just fine with my PC.  I just switched to mac.  The printer is supposed to be airprint compatible according to HP.  HP has no software drivers for me to download.  Instead they say to use Mac Software Update to get the software.  However, there are no updates when I try that.  I have tried adding the printer manually using it's IP address and can print a test page, but when I try to print using an application on the Mac it cannot find the printer or says the printer is in use.  Help!!!

Are you sure it has no usb port?

  • Syncing to new MacBook Pro after sync/backup to Dell Windows XP?

    Hi,
Back in November I bought an iTouch 4G 32GB. Love it. Awesome device. But at the time all my Macs ran OS X 10.4 and I wanted to back up the data and apps on my iTouch so I used an old Dell to do that. The version of iTunes I needed to do that did not run on OS X 10.4....but did run on XP, humm?
Anyway, last week I bought a new 17" MacBook Pro and now I want to use that as the primary computer I use with my iTouch. But I can't see how to do that without wiping my iTouch clean!!!
I can reload my iTune music collection, but I don't want to lose all my apps and data files I now have on my iTouch! How do I copy/backup/sync the apps FROM my iTouch TO iTunes on my new MacBook Pro with losing everything???
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Well, the apps copied from the iTouch to the MacBook Pro. BUT….
    1. Both sides (MacBook & iTouch) of the apps window in iTunes is "transparent" and nothing can be selected on either side. It looks like I now have to "sync" the two to copy the apps back to the iTouch (or to make sure they are there and the two sides match)? This scares the heck out of me, because it says "Are you are sure you want to sync all apps? All existing apps and their data on the iPod "Jeffs iPod" will be replaced with the apps from this iTunes library"…….which I think is Ok to do now, but it still makes me nervous, not doing this everyday…
    2. I do see if I click "Apps" under Library in iTunes I can select/manage the apps….but it says there are only 167. My iTouch says I have 218 apps (and 17 videos, and 61 photos, 1834 songs). Why the difference in the number of apps?? And will they be organized the same way I have them now on my iTouch? I think so, but…
(…."Hence the information about redownloading apps." ….I am trying to avoid re-downloading (and re-organizing) a bunch of my apps, had to do some of this when I updated to iOS 4.3 and for some reason iTunes on the Dell did not copy all the apps to the Dell before updating the iOS. and then telling me there was a problem and the only way to use my iTouch again was to Restore it!! That included about 3 hours to to reload my music BTW)
    3. I never used iPhoto, but I now have a bunch of pictures and videos on my iTouch (including a bunch from the Toronto Supercross I attended Saturday) that I don't want to lose! The LAST thing I want to do to my iTouch photos is sync them right now! I can't even see how to copy the pics in my iTouch to my MacBook! So what so I do there?
Is there a way to copy the pictures and videos on the iTouch to the MacBook before trying to do a sync, a risk wiping them out? At least I'd have copies of them if the pics and vids got wiped on the iTouch.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • I synced my new macbook pro to my old iMac

I synced my new macbook pro to my old iMac(which is old, and doesn't have a lot of memory left) and thus I keep getting the error message on my (new) macbook that the startup disk is almost full, even though I haven't anything on it. so should I restore it? there's nothing i need to save anyway. the macbook is OSX 10.8.

I have no idea what Synced my Macbook to my old iMac means.
Does it mean you copied the contents of the iMac hard drive to the Macbook Pro? You then say you have nothing on your hard drive yet you are getting messages that the startup disk is full.  Something is not making sense here.
You need to provide much more information before anyone else can help you.

  • What kind of longevity can I expect from the SSD in a new MacBook Pro with Retina Display?

    Hi all,
I recently ordered a new MacBook Pro with the Retina Display. This will be both my first computer and my first Mac that uses a SSD as the primary storage device. As the title of this post suggests, what I would like to know is what sort of lifespan/longevity can I expect to get out of it? My current MacBook Pro was manufactured in 2007 and has a stock 160GB Fujitsu hard drive that has been fantastic for me over the past 4-5 years. It continues to run like a champ, and I would hope that a brand new SSD would be able to last at least that long. Given that the new retina MBPs cannot be upgraded or (easily) user-serviced, I am somewhat curious to know whether or not Apple's new proprietary SSD modules will give out/slow to a crawl before/after my new machine becomes completely obsolete. I have been searching for articles published within the past few months on whether or not the current crop of SSDs on the market are more reliable than those introduced a year or two ago, but alas, I haven't had much luck. Perhaps it is still too early to tell?
I found a few discussion threads on here somewhere where some users indicated that their original MacBook Airs, or other SSD-equipped MacBooks, were still performing quite well and responsively after a few years of use. Can anyone substantiate this for me? How long have you been using your SSD(s) in your Mac(s), and do you think the newer models will be able to last several years? I would greatly appreciate any insight.

While I think your concern is legitimate (it was mine too), I think to some extent, how long they last will be up to you. The individual cells in the flash media in an SSD have limited life spans, and SSD controllers have a variety of techniques to spread that wear around evenly (wear leveling). That wear is exacerbated by the controller having to erase a whole block of data when even just one page needs to be changed, and if not all the data in the block is still valid, more data than necessary gets moved (write amplification). To provide some extra room for all this reshuffling of data, SSD manufacturers build in extra space that's inaccessible to the user (over-provisioning), but it typically runs about 7%. (This is a good discussion of the inner workings of all this)
If you stuff your SSD full of files, so that there's very little room to do all this rearranging, I think you'll experience the slowdown you're concerned about. TRIM, which Apple's SSD's support, will help, but you can too. Allow plenty of free space on your SSD and perhaps partition it so that there is free space outside the partition (check this out to see what a difference it can make). You can't use it but the controller can as an extension of the built-in over-provisioning.
You also mention that you "will most likely use it to record several tracks and store my growing library of songs and videos." Why not instead use an external SSD connected via USB 3.0 for storage? They're relatively cheap, very fast, and keep the space on your internal working drive free. A BootCamp partition would also take up space, so you might consider using Windows in a Virtual Machine instead. VMware Fusion or Parallels would be installed on the internal SSD but the virtual machine files could  go on the external.
In any case, your data is more important than your SSD, so back up, back up, back up.

I know many have this issue but i can't find a solution to the problem. i get message saying insuffisiant disk space in the volume iPhoto library and i have plenty of space available. i have the new macbook pro with retina display. i have never seen this message before and i have 2 other macbooks and have had many other also. i am assuming this is a problem with the new macbook retina. does anyone know the exact fix to this issue? i have seen many sugestions to try to fix this issue but none have solved the issue for anyone that i can find in the Apple Support Community. thank for looking into this in advance.
    ******A true apple fan********

Actually your suggestions are the ones that i have tried. i have seen that you have tried to help others with this issue and the only one that i could find that said they found the problem said that it was an ilife update issue and it fixed it and i have no available updates. i know it has to do with something in photo stream because it happens when i create a new library and it is loading the photos but i get the message before i reach the maximum 1000 photos. so i've tried updating, new library(first backing up photos and then deleting them from iPhoto), reinstalling OSX many times, running disc utilities. I called Apple the first day i had this issue and i was the first person to call them for support with the retina display and i actually had it escalated to a senior advisor and we thought we fixed the problem but we did not. i am pretty fluent in dealing with troubleshooting these type of issues and this is the first time i'm reaching out to the community. i figured now that the retina has been out some time now that there would be an obvious answer to this issue. thanks for the quick reply.

Do you have your system backed up to Time Machine? If so, you can open your user Library and copy your Mail folder from Time Machine to your Desktop on your new machine; then copy THAT folder to your new machine's user Library.
To get to your user Library, open Finder and Go and press the Option key. Library will show up. Click on it to get into your user Library. Now go into Time Machine and you should see your user Library for Time Machine. Restore the Mail folder to your Desktop.

  • How can I restore my new Macbook pro to Factory setting?

How can I restore my new Macbook pro to Factory setting?

Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: Be sure you have an active internet connection.

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • If I buy an external hard drive for my new MacBook Pro with the retina display, can I play The Sims 3 on it?

    Hi!
I recently bought the new MacBook Pro with the new retina display, but since it does not have a dvd/cd drive, I was going to buy an external one. I think I will be able to use it to watch dvds, but can I also play the computergame The Sims 3 on it? If not is there anything else I can do?
    Thank you!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can try formatting the external drive on your eMac using Disk Utility and choosing a well-known format > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html. It's quite possible that your new iMac would be able to read it, but first, tell us which formats Disk Utility lists.
If you have those songs in iTunes, simply go to Music folder and copy the iTunes folder to the external drive. Then, connect it to the iMac and copy the iTunes folder to Music folder.
If they are not in iTunes, copy your songs to the external drive. Then, connect it to your new iMac, open iTunes and drag the songs into it
