I can't sync my photos from an iPad Air to a new Mac?

Please help,
I can't seem to sync my photos on to the Mac from my iPad Air! I am doing this as I can't delete them off my iPad, and they have made duplicates on some of the photos and not on others!

Have the photos been taken with the iPad or have the photos been synced to the iPad Air? Photos synced with iTunes to iOS devices cannot be synced back. See this link: iOS: Syncing photos using iTunes
If the photos have been synced to the iPad Air, you need an external app as JimHDK recommended. Or mail the photos, which will be tedious. To delete them from the iPad after transferring them, sync again with iTunes, but select no folders to sync.
If the photos have been taken with the iPad Camera, you can connect the iPad Air to your Mac using a USB cable and then to launch Image Capture or iPhoto to transfer the photos. But that will not transfer synced photos.

It's strongly recommended that one maintain a minimum of 10 GB of free space on the boot drive for optimal system and application performance. It sounds like you have way too little free space on your hard drive.

So I recently synced a few folders from my PC to my iPad 1 and there was a few photos I did not want on my iPad, so when I tapped the photo, the trash button wasn't there. I looked up why that was happening and discovered it was because synced photos can't be deleted from the photo library. So I ask my question, how can I sync specific photos from folders instead of the whole folder? from iTunes to my iPad. If there is not a way for me to sync specific photos from folders, how can I delete the photos I don't want from my iPad?

As King_Penguin has already explained, this isn't possible with the stock Photos app.
As far as photo syncing is concerned, I also recommend PhotoSync, which is an excellent photo (and video!) synchronization tool, should you want to stick with the stock Photos app on the iPad. Should you want something better (Photos is a pretty limited app without sorting, EXIF displaying etc. capabilities and with HUGE storage usage), you'll need to take a look at third-party apps. I too recommend Photo Manager Pro, it's IMHO the best tool. To copy photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.
You should also be able to copy albums that you've created directly on the iPad via apps such as Simple Transfer (though I haven't tried it)

With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. The iPad and related software is designed to sync with only one computer. I suggest transferring the photos from one of your iMacs to the other so that all photos are on one Mac. Same for all other files you want to sync over.
To get those AppleWorks files to the iPad you'll have to determine if Pages will open them. If it will then use the file sharing feature of iTunes to copy them to Pages on your pad.
If Pages will not open the AppleWorks files directly you'll have to save them in some format that Pages will read. These include but may not be limited to Pages and Word formats.

I am not sure this is going to work. For one thing, the preferences file is in a different place in Mountain Lion. It is at: ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.pli st. I wouldn't try to move the .plist file, I'd be very surprised if it would work.
I would do a different approach and start with just recreating the mail account(s) you have on the new machine from scratch and let them download your mail from the server. Then if there were e-mails not on the server any more, but stored in the black macbook, I'd copy them from the mailboxes folder, from the old machine to the new. I'm not sure where they are in 10.5.8, but in ML they are at ~/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes.
At each stage along the way I'd do a backup, so in case it screws things up, you can revert to a functional Mail.app.

I'm also having this problem.
In fact two things have stopped working with my iPhone recently.
1. iTunes no longer launches automatically when I plug in my iPhone to my iMac.
2. The iPhone Notes app has stopped syncing via USB lead between the iPhone and the iMac.
I have tried closing applications, and rebooting both the iPhone and iMac, but this makes no difference.
I'm running OS X 10.6.8 on my iMac.

Yes, you can. Just add files to iTunes library (FILE > ADD FILES TO LIBRARY....) and they will appear under Books library.
Connect you device, select the Books tab, and make sure those books or pdf you want them over are being checked, then click the SYNC button on the lower right window.

In technical support, sometimes you have to make educated guesses. I'm sorry that you were offended.
iTunes does prompt when it is going to erase a device, and the message is clear.
She said in her message that she was able to successfully sync the old ipad. This indicated to me that itunes wiping the data was not an issue, because either it had been setup at the apple store (in which case it doesn't actually wipe the ipad despite saying it will*) (*based on a single case I saw), or because the itunes media folder was migrated.
Furthermore, my solution was to tell her how to backup her ipad (by either doing it manually, or as a last resort, by deleting the corrupt backup -- that she couldn't access anyway.)
I got that last part of the instructions from the "Taking Control of your iphone" book which I found samples of when I did a google search for "corrupted backup itunes".
She marked this as a solution, so it worked for her.
