I can't turn off Apple's "News" Rule

Can anyone help me turn off Apple's Rule for setting the background color to blue for News from Apple. According to Help, deselecting the checkbox in Mail > Prefs > Rules should turn it off but it doesn't.
Unrelated but it would be helpful to me to know: in Entourage, I am used to having an option for deleting a message from the server, but keeping the message locally. Does Mail have this option anywhere?
Thanks

I used the greyscal slider and changed the two Apple News messages to white. The question is, what happens when new Apple News messages come in since the Rule is still in effect. I'm not handy with Rules but couldn't I create a Rule to turn any Apple News message to this color white? Seems ridiculous but in lieu of the fact that I can't turn it off...
By now I've blown my cover as a grumpy curmudgeon so I won't hold back. Another reason I still use Entourage as my default email reader is I can't get Mail to not automatically retrieve my message as soon as I open it. I have it set Prefs>General>Check For New Mail: Manually. Yet every time I open Mail, it hurries up like an overanxious dog an gets all new mail. This screws me up because I already know I have junk mail and now have to delete it a second time. It's like Mail just does not respond to the commands I give it. (I know, I know, whining and grumbling) But seriously, how to turn off automatic News, and automatic checking for new mail?
Thanks

Can you turn off apple tv and just watch your regular tv?

I have an LG TV - I am still trying to work thru all this but on mine, I select TV on the TV remote and it takes me back to cable. Then when I want to return to Apple TV, I select INPUT on the remote and then HDMI. Took me right back to Apple TV.
(But I had already configured the TV for an external HDMI device during set up.)

  • Can I turn off XHCI on new Mac PRO?

I am interested to get a new Mac Pro. I am a bit disappointed that there are only four USB3 Ports. I know that there are expansion appliances and devices that will provide a few more. here is my issue, which will determine if I am a buyer:
I will need to turn off XHCI, reverting to USB2, and hopefully on a port-by-port basis. Now before anyone jumps up and tries to tell me that XHCI will support USB2, I can tell you for provable certainty that XHCI is not truly backwards compatible with USB2. USB2 is an emulation under XHCI. There are some devices that will not run under such an emulation. One of them is the Microtelecom Perseus SDR Radio. I am a collector and SWL enthusiast of 35+ year duration. SDR (Software Defined Radio) is the newest, and very exciting development in Radio. Few are made with MAC OS compatibility, so I run them in Virtual Machines, under Parallels. This works handsomely on my Mac Pro 1.1. But my Mac Pro is long in the tooth. I would like to replace it with a new Mac Pro. But only if I can turn off XHCI. Also please do not wax on about how the manufacturers of such devices should upgrade to USB3. That is not an option for radios that were made 10 years ago.
There must be a way to do this. Apple must certainly want to market the Mac Pro to the Scientific Community, many of whom have devices which are USB2, and finicky about their connections.
I would prefer to turn off XHCI on a port-by-port basis, or to find an extension/expansion device that is not a simple passthrough of USB.
I asked this question at the Apple Store here in San Francisco today, and no one had an answer, or knew what I was talking about. My question was escalated twice to supposedly more knowable persons, none of whom had any idea what XHCI is.
    Anyone here know?

No response here in 3 days, so no one knows.
I did manage after a few tries to get an Apple Tech on the phone through the Sales Dep't. He said that there is no way in the Mac OS to disable XHCI settings, and while he recognized that PCs offer control through BIOS, that Apple offers no access to BIOS. He said further that one might discover a way through the Terminal app, but that Apple would not support that if done by a user. So I am NOT going to spend $3500+ on a new computer to have to hack it, and put Support and Warranty in jeopardy. No new Mac Pro for me, no sale for Apple. I may look for a refurb or eBay used Mac Pro 3,1-4,1-5,1, where I can drop in a PCIe USB3 card, and have both for my use, as I wish; nine hardware USB ports sounds good to me.

  • Can't turn off apple tv after 5.3 update

yeppers can't turn it off after the update and playing around with HBO GO. pressed the play button for many seconds, signed on to HBO GO and logged off. nada. I turned off wifi and everything is still working as if I had wifi on. I close iTunes and the only thing different is home sharing is off but I can listen to my songs using the music icon just can't see "my" movies. open itunes and all is there as if I had wifi on. yes, wifi is not turned on. any ideas or should I have read something about 5.3 that I didn't see.

**** never knew it just went to sleep, always thought it went off, geeze just found this out, lol. I updated from 5.0.1 or something like that to 5.3 so I guess lots has changed. I used to have to turn on wifi from the menu bar for anything to show up(other than the icons) and press the play button for a few seconds and it went to sleep(what I thought was off). now, it's always on, I can see the music, the movies(except the ones in my library). when I open itunes, I can see my movies in the library, all without turning on wifi in the menu bar. could this be because the wifi is always on and the update enables me to not have to turn wifi on in the menu bar, like I had to before? or is this a non issue because that's the way it works now? whew.
    thanks all

  • Can't turn off Apple TV after update

Updated my 2nd gen Apple TV this morning to iOS 5.1.  Now I cannot put the ATV to sleep by pressing the middle button anymore.  Anyone know how to put it to sleep, besides going through the setting menu?

After upgrading to itunes 11 my apple tv2 no longer appears in itunes. Airplay?!  So those of us with wired networks are now S.O.L.?    This makes no sense.  I remember after upgrading to OS 10.8. that my 2 year old intel i5 imac can't use aiplay to stream movies to the apple tv.  Fine.  So, now Apple have applied the same built in obselecence approach to itunes audio, requiring those of us with 2 year old equipment to go out and by new stuff just to play music on another set of speakers?  How does that strike you for environmentally friendly? 2 years. Sorry for the rant .  If anyone knows of a workaround I'd love to hear about it.  Maybe if I turn everything on and off enough times it will work...

  • Third party remote won't turn off Apple TV

    Hello,
I've set up a third party remote (Yamaha HTR-5740) and everything works great except I can't turn off Apple TV with the third party remote. I have to use the Apple TV remote. I can turn it on with the third party remote by pushing play, but not off. I can hold down play, pause, and stop, and nothing. Even tried holding down play and pause together. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

  • How can I turn off Recently Websites when opening new Safari window? After tapping on the two overlapping boxes on the bottom right of Safari, a new blank window appears with Favorites, but now in iOS 8, recently viewed websites are listed.

How can I turn off Recently Visited Websites when opening new Safari window?
After tapping on the two overlapping boxes on the bottom right of Safari, a new blank window appears with Favorites, but now in iOS 8, recently viewed websites are listed. How can I turn this function off? I do NOT want my new Safari windows to have history displayed of previous websites I visited. I only want my Favorites (on the top) to be displayed. Please help.
Thank you for your time, patience, understanding, kindness, and concern.

Thanks for replying, but that isn't the answer I am looking for.  Also, there is no + sign, UNLESS you do tap the overlapping boxes.
Let me try to ask my question a little more clearly:
When I tap the two overlapping boxes on the lower left (the option to Open New Windows), the new Window that appears will show your Bookmarked FAVORITES. But with my new iPhone 6, and the new iOS 8.0.2, when I tap the two boxes to open a New Window, my Bookmark Favorites show (as they always have and should), but below them, there is a dividing line underneath them, and it says Recently Viewed Websites, and has these websites available to tap.
So my question is, HOW DO I TURN THESE OPTION OFF?
*UPDATE  (10.13.14): Since I have asked this question, I no longer see these Recently Viewed Websites under my Bookmarked Favorites in my new Window tabs. So I hope that Apple fixed it, or somehow it was a mistake, or somehow I changed an Option on my iPhone 6 that stopped this for reoccurring.
Thank you for your help bobseufert! I appreciate your concern, kindness, and the time to try to help. I am grateful.
    Have a blessed day.

  • How can I turn off that Maveriks at iMac is scanning continuously for new devices?

Hi, I have a iMac (early 2008) updatet to 10.9 Maveriks with Bluetooth mouse, mousepad en keyboard. I listen at home to music with a Onkyo TX-NR626 A/V receiver (with Bluetooth) via my iMac, iPad and android device.
When I startup or wake up my iMac, Maveriks is always staring to scan for new Bluetooth devices?!. Than every time, my receiver (also when the receiver is turned off) is turning on and change to Bluetooth mode.
I can't turn off the Bluetooth function at my Onkyo TX-NR626 A/V receiver. With Mountain Lion, I didn't had this problems.
I want to turn of the continuously scanning procedure after startup or wake up on my iMac.
    My question is:
How can I turn off that Maveriks is scanning continuously for new devices?
How can I turn off the detection mode of my iMac?

Kinda funny... I found this article while searching for an answer to my question:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610
At the very end of the article, it mentions the "bug" that only one app on Windows can play direct sound at a time. That's exactly the "feature" I'm looking for on the Mac. Funny how one person's bug is another's feature.
