I can't type in the web address in the address bar. I have to open a new tab to do it.

I just upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7. I reinstalled firefox, added the speeddial that I liked so much, and then tried to use firefox. I can't type the web address into the address bar when I start firefox. I always have to open a new tab before it'll let me do it. Also, I can't highlight and copy what's typed there - AND I can't "paste and go" anymore. Is that open gone?

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

• Why can't i drag text/link to the tab bar and have it open a new tab?

Whenever i drag highlighted text, drag a URL, or drag a link to an image/video to the tab bar nothing happens. Previously FF would open this as a new tab, but i can't seem to find out what is wrong.

in Chrome you can drag a text to a new tab and Google(or your default search engine) gives you the search results of that text in that new tab
Sometimes it works, sometimes it randomly opens a nonexistent .com-less url or appends .com for no reason.
Nothing happens when I drag text and drop it on a tab or the new tab button. Do you need to wait for the tab to display and then drop it on the address bar?
Two alternatives might be:
(1) Right-click selected text, then choose Search Google for... to open a search in a new tab
(2) Hold the Alt key while dragging and dropping the selected text onto the search box/search bar to open a search in a new tab

• How to stop multiple auto-switching to address bar every time I open a new tab and try to type something anywhere outside of address bar?

How to stop multiple auto-switching to address bar every time I open a new tab and try to type something anywhere outside of address bar? Like something just wants me to use that embedded search when u type something not-web-address in address bar and hit enter. And the most ridiculous thing is that it happens repeatedly on like every second, like I just move down from address bar and start typing again, but then again it switches me to address bar, and 3, 4 times like that. And the result is also that I can't see the address of that page.
I think its has something to do with my AVG antivirus, because this started the same time some AVG Nation started to appear in every new tab i open (and thats also irritating me, I read about it here on support.mozilla.org and it seems that the only solution is to completely reinstall Firefox, but I dont want to lose all my settings) but when i type something in address bar and hit enter it opens the search results in Google.
Please try to help me, I like Firefox but I must switch to Chrome until I fix this problem.
Thanks in advance

First, please update to Firefox 32. 22 is no longer support nor is it secure. Then let us know if you still have this problem. Update Firefox to the latest version

• In the latest version of Firefox, I am not able to open a new tab neither by Ctrl+T nor from the File Tab nor by pressing the '+' sign next to the last tab

In the latest version of Firefox, I am not able to open a new tab neither by Ctrl+T nor from the File Tab nor by pressing the '+' sign next to the last tab. So the only solution is opening "New window" which is extremely messy. Kindly help me with this issue.

hello, can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once? if not, maybe an addon is interfering here...

• Firefox update 23.0.1, no longer automatically highlights the address bar content when I open a new tab.

The above. When I opened a new tab in the past, before the new update, firefox would automatically highlight the text in the address bar, and I could simply start typing from there the address of the site I wanted. I could quickly get to anywhere I wanted in less than a second. Now, I have to drag and click into the address bar every time. I installed an add-on called "custom newtab" but it just slows me down further due to a lag between the opening of a new tab, and the add-on kicking in and highlighting the address bar content.
What happens is this:
Click "new tab"
New tab opens blank and the text appears highlighted "google.co.uk" for about a quarter second.
Page loads Google and the highlighted text becomes unhighlighted for another quarter second.
Add-on kicks in and highlights the text "google.co.uk" meanwhile I've already begun typing and end up losing the first part of the words, sending me to random web pages and searches.
Why did this change?! Fix it please!

YES!! Thank you jscher2000! You sir are a legend. Thanks for this, changed the newtaburl in about:config, totally worked. Nope, never saw it happening! Speedy machine this one :P Yep, that change completely sorted the issue, just opened about 741 new tabs through the shortcut on my mouse just to celebrate. Thanks guys who helped, no thanks those who didn't.

• Firefox does not open a new tab when you click the plus sign button which is actually a shortcut for opening a new tab. You have to open a new firefox window in order to get a new tab. Please help. Thanks.

I didn't have this problem before with Firefox. My kids must have pressed something or clicked on something that's the open new tab button does not function anymore. No matter how you click it, it doesn't open a new tab. Even if you click on file, then go to new tab, it still doesn't open a new tab. You have to open a new firefox window in order to do multiple browsing.
Hope you can help resolve this problem.
Sincerely,
Ems Guillarte

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened. Checking your list of add-ons, the MyPlayCity toolbar is a version of the Ask toolbar.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
* Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
* Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

• How do I keep my browsing window the same size everytime I start Firefox and when I open in new tab

I can't see the the words unless I hit control and plus to view bigger. I used to be able to have the bigger size every time I opened Fire Fox and would not change when I open in new tab, now I click control and plus to make bigger, I click open in new tab and it's small again, every time I open Fire Fox everything is small letters so I have to control and plus all the time.

The size, in pixels, is staying the same. Most of the time, this is the way you should think of image size. Working in inches is only meaningful when you are about to print.
In your example, if the piece you have added is too small, select it and use Transform to make it bigger. This is upsampling, so quality may be compromised.

• How do I make firefox to go to a specfic web page (ie google home page) every time I open a new tab?

Every time I open a new tab, I want firefox to go to Google's home page http://www.google.com/. Right now when I open a new tab, the tab is blank. Therefore, I have to click on the home icon on the upper right corner - the icon with the little house. How do make firefox go to Google's Home Page every time a open a new tab?

Dear SafeBrowser, It is an eye catching feature of this addon that can be found easily. the image can explain it though

• How do I change the website that Firefox automatically defaults to (Yahoo search) when opening a new tab?

Whenever I open a new tab, the new tab opens to a yahoo search page. It used to open to just a blank tab and changed somehow. I've been unsuccessful at changing it back.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
* Troubleshooting extensions and themes
* Troubleshooting plugins
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• Can't open Youtube videos with a left click. Have to open in new tab/window to view.

When on Youtube, I can't open videos by clicking on them when in the search result page. I have to open them in a new tab or window. All other elements work on the page. Once the video is open in the new tab I am able to play it. Embeded links work. It is only on Youtube itself. Fine in Safari. Only experiencing this in Firefox.

• 13.0.1-I have probs on FB trying to click on notifications with photos-or to click on photo from the newsfeed. Photoviewer doesnt work, have to open in new tab.

It seems ever since I downloaded FF 13.0.1 I've been having problems with FB. When I use IE, everything works fine, though (however, I prefer FF to IE) -- NONE of these are issues on IE. When I try to click on a photo notification from FB it no longer will bring up the Photo Viewer Pop-up, it does nothing at all. When I try to click on any photos in the newsfeed nothing happens. I have to right click on the photo and open it in a new tab to be able to view it. Also, individual message (threads?) never ever load - it will just constantly show the "busy loading animation" and never come up. On FB walls, it won't let me scroll down because it won't load any posts past the initial page load! It's extremely frustrating, especially because this issue seems limited to FF. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Try the Firefox Safe Mode to see how it works there. The Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* You can open the Firefox 4.0+ Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or use the Help menu item and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in Safe Mode."
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shift key) to open it again.
If it is good in the Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.
