I can't uninstall CS4

I migrated to a new macbook pro... none of the adobe products worked... says "licensing for this product has stopped working"
so I did everything listed on this page... "Error "Licensing has stopped working" | Mac OS"
none of it worked and last "solution" was to uninstall and reinstall creative suite.
now when I try to uninstall I get the message "Startup error: Required support files are missing"
well no kidding, as the "Solutions 1-5" instructed me to delete folders... I replaced them all where they came from and still I get the same message that files are missing.
So I can't launch what's there and can't uninstall to fix the problem... HELP PLEASE

Yes, I tried rebooting and the cleaner tool still wouldn't launch... which got me thinking maybe the cleaner tool itself is damaged... so I downloaded the cleaner tool for CS5 hoping it would work for CS4 and LO AND BEHOLD!!! it worked So.... I was able to uninstall... then reinstall and all is good! Thanks for your input John, I do appreciate it.

  • InDesign CS4 crashes on Lion. Bonus: Can't uninstall CS4

I recently used Migration Assistant to move everything from my old iMac G5 (Leopard) to my new iMac with Lion.
InDesign now crashes on startup, though PS and AI seem to be working ok.
I'd like to uninstall my entire CS4, and do a fresh install from my discs. Unfortunately, when I go to Utilities > Adobe Installers, and try clicking on "Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection" (which is now an alias file) I recieve an error message: "Startup error ... Required support files are missing."
I am pretty stumped here. How can I go about properly uninstalling CS4 if the uninstaller doesn't work??
Any info would be much appreciated.

Likewise  -  I have the same problem, both with CS4 and CS5.  Crashes immediately.
Tried updating CS4, and it said 'it is already installed here'.  So changed name of CS4, and it said 'CS4 is not installed here'.  They've got you whichever way.
Tried installing newer version, but it will not run.
Tried uninstalling, but uninstaller will not run.
Errr,  come on Adobe/Apple, surely you can do better than this.

  • Upgraded to CS5, can we uninstall CS4?

Hello, just installed CS5 upgrade and assumed it would replace CS4 on our system.  It appears to have installed as a completely new program and left the original CS4 installation in place.
    Q. Can we uninstall the CS4 version to reclaim some HDD space?  CS5 seems to be working fine?
The screen shot belows shows the programs listed on the 'start' menu.
edit: We received the upgrade disk from Adobe as we had purchased CS4 after CS5 was announced for release.  Both program disks have different serial numbers.

Update for others who may read this....
There is one "ill-effect" that we have since discovered which relates to LR3.
We installed LR3 after CS5 and later removed the previous installation of CS4.  This action removes a key in the registry which makes the "Edit in Photoshop" option greyed out on the menu bar.
The solution was eventually found here:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/401/kb401629.html
We chose to have a go at the registry edit, but apparently re-installing CS5 will replace the key also, (this option may be tedious for those who have installed lots of plug-ins?).

  • Can't uninstall CS4

I installed CS5 on my Vista laptop, and when I went to uninstall CS4 it locked up my computer.  The first time I tried, I think the progress bar in the Adobe uninstaller went up a bit, then stopped and I realized the computer was frozen - couldn't even get the Task Manager.  I turned off the computer with the power button, restarted it in safe mode, restarted, and tried again.  This time I noticed in the check-box list of what you want to uninstall that Photoshop was checked and ghosted - I couldn't check or uncheck it.  And this time the progress bar showed about a mm of progress (saying it was uninstalling Photoshop CS4) and nothing more happened.  Again I had to shut down by just turning off the computer.  I went through the "safe mode" thing several more times before I gave up.  I really don't have room on my computer for both CS4 and CS 5 - anybody got any ideas?

If you go that route (and even if you don't), I recommend visiting www.piriform.com and downloading ccleaner and defraggler. Those are two fantastic and FREE (a paypal donation to the author wouldn't hurt) utilities for clean up and defragging.
Uninstall, run both utilities and then reinstall CS5. You'll be prompted for the CS4 serial since CS4 won't be there anymore.
Finally, just to be safe, deactivate the software before uninstalling.
    Good luck,
    Bob

  • How can I uninstall CS4 Production Premium?

I downloaded this software in early 2010, I think I didn't deactive my account before I uninstall it.
Please advise how can I remove this software? As I can't use it now, but it takes 2.07GB space of my computer.
    Thanks for your help.

I tried serval times to remove it via Control Panel, but it stopped in the middle of the progress everytime.

  • Uninstall CS4 after upgrade to CS5?

    Hi -
I just upgraded from Photoshop CS4 to Photoshop CS5.
I had expected CS5 to overwrite and replace CS4, but all the elements of CS4 are still there.
    Should I simply uninstall CS4?
Is there a risk of losing any files if I do so?
If so, what should I back up?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dennis

PS CS4 and PS CS5 can co-exist. You can either use both of them simultaneously or can simply uninstall CS4 if you wish.

  • Uninstalling CS4 after installing CS5

    Hi,
I have just installed the CS5 upgrade (Master Collection). Now I have CS4 and 5 installed, which is unnecessary.
Question 1: Can I uninstall CS4 without deleting any important files like libraries, templates, brushes, actions, etc?
Question 2: What is the best way to uninstall CS4?
    Thanks,
    Rogier

    Hi Roger:
Would be curious to hear what happened with your uninstall. I encountered a similar situation, checked with NAPP due to the many problems I have had with Adobe Support. The uninstall almost worked.
However, when I removed CS4 from my lap top, the CS5 executable programs disappeared from <Start> <All Programs> <Adobe>. I used Explorer to see what files were installed, and they were all there. So I either have to execute them from Explorer, or reinstall to make life a bit easier. So I am in the process of reinstalling. Think I will leave both sets on my Desktop.
Below is the information NAPP sent me. There are some good hints if you have customized Actions.
    From NAPP:
You can uninstall through Start menu> Control Panel> Add and Remove Programs.   But before you do, consider these steps:
    --Open Photoshop CS4.
--In the Actions palette, select a set of custom Actions (a set, not an individual Action).
--From the Actions palette menu select Save Actions.
--Choose a location, assign a name (using the .atn file extension), click Save.
--Repeat for any additional sets of Actions.
--If you have any custom brushes, styles, etc., use Edit> Preset Manager to create and save sets.
    --Quit Photoshop CS4.
    --Open Photoshop CS5.
--From the Actions palette menu choose Load Actions.
--Navigate to and select your .atn files to load them into the palette.
--Use Edit> Preset Manager to load other custom items.
Also check the other programs of the Creative Suite for custom templates and such that you want to save.

  • Uninstalling CS4 on new computer after mistakenly using Migration Assistant

As I've since learned, I made the mistake of using Migration Assistant for all my applications when I transferred to a newer mac pro.
That included CS4. It's ok that it no longer works as I will install CS6 Production Premium which I have in disc form.
All I want to do at this point is uninstall the non-functioning CS4.
I tried the Adobe cleaner tool but I still can't uninstall CS4. The first time I ran it it looks like it cleaned several applications.
I thought that may have fixed the problem but now when I click on uninstall for each application, nothing happens.
I've tried to subsequently run the cleaner tool and it no longer lists any items I need to clean like it did the first time I ran it.
I've read many discussions but I can't seem to find an answer that works.
Thanks for any insight you can provide!

properly install cs4 (to install working uninstallers), and then uninstall and clean.

  • Can't uninstall CS3 after installing CS4

After I got CS4 installed and working ok, I tried to uninstall CS3. A dialog window showed two components that could be uninstalled; CS3 and Shared components. Both were checked and grayed out so that I could not uncheck Shared components. How can I uninstall CS3?

Thanks, I spoke to Adobe and they said that all I had to do was be patient. The uninstall took about 40 minutes, and it was quite a while before the progress bar budged.

We do that for production machines. What Adobe suites do to
    Window's
registry is not very good (similar problems exist with Mac's
    application
cache). Aside from bloat, there is no logical cleanup so you
    invariably wind
up with niggling problems such as the wrong version of
    Fireworks popping up
at the wrong time - or no version popping up at all. Since
    our gallery
products rely on inter-application communications, this is a
    nuisance. There
are other issues, but this one hits home (as well as our
    customers), hence
    tech notes like this:
    http://www.projectseven.com/support/answers.asp?id=194
We also keep "dirty" machines on which are installed MX2004,
    8, CS3, and now
CS4. Those are fun, but it helps in developing fixes for our
    customers.

  • With CS4 installed already, can I uninstall InDesignCS3 without affecting the CS4 suite?

With CS4 installed already, can I uninstall InDesignCS3 without affecting the CS4 suite?
InDesignCS3 was downloaded from the internet. CS4 suite was installed from CDs. Both are currently on my computer. How can I uninstall InDesignCS3?

Just use the add/remove programs feature in the control panel, but I would strongly suggest that you don't do this. If you ever need to supply a CS3 file you'll be sorry you uninstalled it.

  • Upgraded to CS4, but can't uninstall CS3

I installed CS4, and then successfully uninstalled CS3 (both versions as full Creative Suites).  I realized, though, that I hadn't saved the actions I had created in PS CS3, so I reinstalled PS CS3 (and found the PS CS3 Actions Palette.psp file, which had my custom actions, from a backup I had made). I exported the custom actions to .atn files, and then imported them into CS4.  So far, so good.  But...  Now I can't uninstall CS3!  It doesn't show up in my "Add or Remove Programs" dialog (either as the full Creative Suite, or as the individual component programs).
I suppose I might be able to solve this by completely uninstalling CS4, which would leave only PS CS3 (and a few other of the CS3 programs, which were also reinstalled) -- and then maybe it would show up in Add or Remove Programs.  (And then I could -- I hope -- uninstall CS3, and reinstall CS4.)  But if someone has a simpler solution, I'd greatly appreciate hearing it!
To summarize the key actions, here's what I did:
    - Already had Creative Suite CS3 installed
    - Installed Creative Suite CS4
    - Uninstalled Creative Suite CS3
    - Reinstalled PS CS3 and a couple other CS3 programs
    - Exported some files I needed from CS3, and imported them into CS4
    - Now I can't uninstall CS3
    Thanks,
    Steve

You have created a fairly unusual situation!
I would first try runnning the CS3 Clean Script to see if that can remove it without damaging the CS4 installation. It may not.
Otherwise I can only think of:
    Un-install CS4 normally
Run CS4 clean script, a couple of times if necessary.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html
It should also detect CS3 remnants , if not run CS3 clean script.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs3clean.html
Manually remove any Adobe folders remaining – they may be in more places than C:\Program files!
Run a good registry cleaner like CCleaner.
Start again with a fresh installation.

  • Upgraded to CS3 to CS4. Can I uninstall CS3?

Several years ago I upgraded to CS3 to CS4. CS3 was not removed. Can I uninstall CS3?

For both CS3 and CS4 the better capture tools are:
    For HDV: HDVSplit
    For SD: Scenalyzer
This may avoid the need to reinstall CS3 and possibly messing up some registry keys.

Did you go to your printer manufacturer's website and download the latest driver for your printer? If not, do so. See if this fixes the issue. If so, stop reading.
Have you tried making a generic printer the default? When you go to print, your printer should show up as an choice in the pull down menu after you hit Print.
