I can't uninstall Illustrator

I'm trying to uninstall Illustrator but keep getting the error message " Unable to get alias data from uninstall db for storage key {..}" Any idea how to get around this problem, I just want to install it again fresh.

I tried to do it that way but got the following message:
"Important: before uninstalling, you should make sure you have deactivated and removed any serial numbers used when installing it on this machine. Deactivate a serial number by launching adobe illustrator cs4 and choosing deactivate from the help menu. Also make sure the "erase serial number" checkbox is selected. deactivating a serial number will allow you to activate Adobe illustrator on another machine." When I go through these steps in Illustrator, it requires an internet connection. Can I just bypass this step?

    How can I uninstall old versions of Adobe Illustrator?

    This is for uninstalling CS2, but you might find it helpful. EDITED: but watch out, since I don't know if trashing any of these will remove currently needed Illustrator files, if you have a later version.
    To uninstall Adobe Creative Suite in Mac OS 1 -- Double-click Activity Monitor.app in Applications/Utilities, select AHCRemind, and click Quit Process.
    2 -- If you intend to install the product on a different computer, transfer the activation. (See “To transfer the product activation” on page 1.)
    3 -- If you want to uninstall Adobe Acrobat, double-click the uninstaller in Applications/Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional, and follow the on-screen instructions.
    4 -- If you want to uninstall Version Cue 2, double-click the uninstaller in Applications/Adobe VersionCue CS2, and follow the on-screen instructions.
    Note: If the Version Cue uninstaller fails, see the alternative procecure, “To remove Version Cue manually” on page 4.
    5 -- From the Applications folder, drag the following items, if present, to the trash: Note: After you drag the items to the trash in steps 5-8, you must empty the trash before you can reinstall
    Adobe Creative Suite 2 on the same computer. • Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional • Adobe VersionCue CS2 • Adobe Bridge
    • Adobe GoLive CS2 • Adobe Illustrator CS2 • Adobe InDesign CS2 • Adobe Photoshop CS2 • AdobeHelpCenter.app
    6 -- From the Utilities folder, drag the following items, if present, to the trash: • Adobe Utilities • Adobe Updater.app
    7 -- From the Library folder, drag the following items, if present, to the trash: • Application Support/Adobe/AdobeHelpData • Application Support/Adobe/Assistance • Application Support/Adobe/StartupScripts/Workflow Automation Scripts
    • Preferences/Adobe/Workflow • Preferences/com.adobe.ActivationUtility.plist • Preferences/com.adobe.GoLive.plist • Preferences/Adobe Save For Web GL 8.0 Prefs
    8 -- From the Users/[user name] folder, drag the following items, if present, to the trash: • Library/Preferences Panes/Opera Preferences
    • Library/Caches/Opera Cache
    • Documents/AdobeStockPhotos
    To remove Version Cue manually (Mac OS only, not recommended)
    If you’ve accidentally removed parts of the Version Cue installation manually or if the uninstaller fails, you have to remove the remaining installed Version Cue components manually.
    1 -- From the Library/PreferencePanes folder, drag the Version Cue CS2.prefPane folder to the trash. 2 -- From the Library/Preferences folder, drag the com.adobe.versioncueCS2.plist file to the trash. 3 -- From the Library/StartupItems folder, drag the AdobeVersionCueCS2 folder to the trash. 4 -- From the Applications folder, drag the Adobe Version Cue CS2 folder to the trash.
    5 -- From [user home]/Library/Preferences/Adobe, drag the Workflow folder to the trash. 6 -- (Optional) From the [user home]/Documents folder, drag the Version Cue folder to the trash.

    My appologies.  It's been a while since ive used a support forum.  Im using Windows XP Pro SP 3. 3GHz P4, 512 RAM
    No, I can not see anything on the disc.  I cant even see the discs for that matter.  I have tried all three discs in both drives of my computer and it just shows the drive label.  When I double click, it says "please insert a disc in to drive."  But again, the discs work on othere computers, and other discs work in these drives.
    I guess I should also say that I have tried the Add/Remove programs.  On the CS2 Tryout I get the error stated in the original message.  When I try to uninstall CS3 I get a brief popup flash on my screen and then it disappears.  Nothing more happens.
    Thanks

  • After using an ExtendScript (via ESTK) Illustrator becomes corrupted and "Can't open illustration."

    Hey, thanks for reading.
    I'm having a strange problem with Illustrator CS5 and ESTK CS5. I'm new to writing ExtendScripts, so I haven't a clue what could be going wrong here but here's the skinny:
    I've written the following code, which is very specialized to the exact document I'm working with. Using the ExtendScript Toolkit, the script goes through the following loops:
    The primary problem:
    For some reason, running this script causes Illustrator to become somehow corrupted. I can continue working with the document as long as it is open, but if I try to close it and re-open it, I get the infuriatingly unhelpful error dialog "Can't open illustration." With no extra details.
    The same error comes up if I try to open any other .ai files. Shutting down and rebooting doesn't fix the problem. I have to completely uninstall Illustrator, then re-install it before it will work again. And even then, if I try to open the ExtendScript-corrupted file the whole Illustrator app gets corrupted and needs to be reinstalled.
    Oh, also Illustrator itself shows up as "(Not responding)" while the script is running, but the ESTK console clearly shows that the script is chugging along as expected.
    Specifics about the script:
    There are 4 "Buttons" on the document, and a library full of nearly-identical symbols in the Library (different colored backgrounds for the buttons).
    The script cycles through every symbol in the library, replacing and deleting instances of the previous symbol.
    Then, for each symbol, it cycles through an array (technically an object-literal) of { language-code: "string" } pairs, and saves a .png of each artboard for each word.
    What follows is a pared-down version of the full script:
    (I tried to add a few $.sleep(10); calls, hoping that maybe just a brief slowdown in the processes might help. It didn't.)
    This script (in its original form) outputs a ton of files very, very quickly.
    Script Example
    var folder = Folder.selectDialog();                     // Ask for a folder choice.
    var aDoc = app.activeDocument;                        // Declare an active Document reference.
    var textLayer = aDoc.layers.getByName('text');   // Get the text layer, for moving it back/forward
    var textFrms = aDoc.textFrames;                       // Get all text frames, for language swap
    var allSymbols = aDoc.symbols;                         // Get array of all symbols in the symbol library
    var allSymbolItems = aDoc.symbolItems;            // Get an array of all symbol instances in the active document
    var helpTextArray =
        en: "help",
        az: "Kömək",
        cs: "Nápověda",
        da: "Hjælp",

         allSymbolItems.length > 0 &&      // and we've got symbol instances "symbolItems"
         textFrms.length > 0 ) {                 // and we've got textFrames to manipulate.
        // For each symbol in our symbol library...
        for(var i = 0; i < allSymbols.length; i++) {

    Are there best practices that I'm unaware of here that could be causing this corruption?
    Does anyone know what could be happening?
    The only error I ever get is "Can't open illustration." There's never anything more helpful, so I have no idea what could be going wrong.
    If there's any more information that would be of use to anyone I'd be happy to share. This is wasting a lot of my time and making me pull my hair out like crazy,

    I have not had the time to look over your script but at a glance there are a few things I would handle differently…
    Firstly returning a document to a given state… If you play with this snippet you can see that app.undo() returns to the last called app.redraw() if there is one else it undo's the whole script…
    #target illustrator
    doSymbols();
    function doSymbols() {
        var doc = app.activeDocument;
        var sym = doc.symbols[0];
        for ( var i = 0; i < 4; i++ ) {
            var foo = doc.symbolItems.add( sym );
            foo.position = Array( i * 72, -( i * 72 ) );
            app.redraw(); // Comment this out to see…
        app.undo(); // Returns to last redaw state if any…?
    Secondly your symbols… You know you can just change the symbol instance's symbol reference…? If they are almost the same particualy size then its an easy swap…?
    #target illustrator
    doSymbols();
    function doSymbols() {
        var doc = app.activeDocument;
        var sym = doc.symbols[1]; // Next symbol in the palette
        for ( var i = 0; i < 4; i++ ) {
            doc.symbolItems[i].symbol = sym;
            app.redraw();

  • Can't Move Objects, Can't Uninstall CC

    I'm running Adobe CC on Mac OS X Yosemite. I've got variations on the same problem, but the main thrust is: I can't move objects.
    More detailed: I booted up InDesign this morning and started working in it. All of a sudden, I couldn't move any of my objects. Can't resize them, can't drag them, nothing. So I look up the issue and this is an ongoing problem apparently. I have done the following:
    • Held down Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Command before the launch screen to delete preferences (didn't work)
    • Manually found the Preferences and Caches folder and renamed them (didn't work)
    • Uninstalled Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop, then reinstalled (didn't work)
    • Restarted my computer after doing the first two (this worked for five minutes until I opened a browser window, and then the problem was back.
    The next step I would've taken is uninstalling CC and all the applications, clearing the software, and reinstalling everything. Except now I'm being told I can't uninstall CC. Because it's in use. When it's not.
    Look, Adobe, I like the product. But this is bulls***. I've done everything everyone on every message board has done to solve the problem, and it hasn't fixed this. I need the CC in order to maintain job performance. I also need to use the Internet at the same time. This shouldn't be hard.

  • Illustrator Can't Save Illustration

    I am using Illustrator 10 and I get a message that says "Can't save illustration" sometimes. This does not happen all the time. I can save the file as an EPS file when I can't save it as an illustrator file. Today I got another message after trying to click save when the can't save illustration message appeared. This message said that "You are saving this document in Adobe Illustrator 1.0/1.1 format. Saving this document in an older format may disable some editing features when the document is read back in. I was trying to save it in Illustrator 10 as an Illustrator 10 file. The only versions of Illustrator that have been on my computer are Illustrator 9,10 and CS. I did try uninstalling everything and just installing 10, but the problem still persists. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Diane

    Diane,
    The issue may have a number of causes:
    If it is corrupted preferences, you may may try to
    Move the folder. The strangeness of Illy versions may indicate something like that.
    It may also be something about fonts, in which case removing type should change it, or that the artwork extends outside the workspace.
    Can you save to PDF, keeping Illustrator editing capabilities?

    please help me.!

    iag,
    You may start looking at recovery methods as the ones described in these links (although the cases dealt with differ form yours, you may do something similar):
    http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/troubleshoot-damaged-illustrator-files.html
    http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/opening-illustrator-file-get-error.html
    http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/enable-content-recovery-mode-illustrator.html
    http://daxxter.wordpress.com/2009/04/16/how-to-recover-a-corrupted-illustrator-ai-file/
    It is difficult work, but it may be worth it.
    Working with the code, one specific way is to create a new empty document and create some very simple artwork in a copy of it (to see where the actual contents go), then move code from the corrupt file into the empty document and see what may be recovered that way.
    Hopefully, this will appear less woolly once you start on it.
    Edit: almost an hour after midnight here so I have to attend to other duties. The very best of luck.

  • I have 3 versions of Photoshop CC and 2 versions of Premiere CC installed on my computer after the last update. Can I uninstall any of them?

    After my laptop updated my apps, I now have Photoshop CC (32bit), Photoshop CC (64bit), and Photoshop CC (2014) showing installed on my computer. I also show Premiere CC and Premiere CC (2014). Can I uninstall any of these as they are taking up valuable space on my primary SSD? Please help. This seems silly.

    I just uninstalled Photoshop CC, Indesign CC, and Illustrator CC and did not experience any hiccups.  EDIT: If you have plugins refer to @John T Smith post below; I do not.
    Now time for rant:
    - It's a year+ since the switch to CC; what is the utility in switching your brand's identity to a "SaaS company" if you aren't going to be doing rolling releases? You just didn't want to to package and ship the physical boxes anymore? This is mind-blowing to me. Tell your devs/architects to install some Linux instances (Arch preferably) and see they way they handle package upgrades. If you guys weren't so Linux phobic you might have picked up on how to elegantly do package/app updates.
    - Who in Marketing thought "Well ****, if we are going to have a fragmented CC ecosystem might as well just stick the year at the end". If this is going to be your naming convention you should push an update to rename the old CC's (2013).
    - Please refresh your Creative Cloud app immediately. As @unconsenting posted before, HD space is luxury and can't be wasted. Why not have a prompt asking if the user wants to uninstall any previous version? Before finding the uninstall file, I glanced through the CC app for a non-existent uninstall button. Ridiculous that I had to open the Applications folder(or sorting through the numerous Adobe uninstall apps that spotlight displays) and run 3 uninstall apps, each a 5 min uninstall, after spending 15 mins running the new update

  • Can't get Illustrator to reinstall on my computer

    I have Adobe Illustrator CS2 on my computer - computer locked up - I tried to reinstall but Illustrator just says "The application Illustrator has unexpectedly quit." Never had a problem in the past reinstalled any software. Do think its a virus?
    Message was edited by: rgraphics

    If you want to get renewed attention to your unanswered question, it's best not post it all over again. Just write "bump" or ask for continued help in a new post. That way you'll avoid having two threads running simultaneously.
    Maybe someone else will come along with a more direct solution, but what I might try to do just as a general rule of thumb in this situation, is first to uninstall Illustrator completely, then re-install it. Adobe CS versions are known to be very fussy, in general, about copying and/or re-installing.
    Here are directions for manually uninstalling. They say you need to pay special attention to the possibility of uninstalling components that are used for other Adobe applications.
    It's definitely not a virus. There are no OS X viruses out there. And this is not virus like behavior. If you are unable to get help here, you might want to contact Adobe (although their tech support is not known to be exactly marvelous.)
    Also, don't delete any files directly. I would use the "Move to trash" option, so you can replace something later if you find you need it.

  • Can't Uninstall Adobe CC 2013-Uninstall Alias missing

    I recently installed CC 2014 but noticed that it did not update my current apps but created new applications. When I try to uninstall Illustrator, Photoshop and Muse (2013) in the Adobe Installers folder, I click on the alias and all it says is alias cannot be opened because original cannot be found. Any help on getting these 2013 CC apps off my Mac would be great.

    Did either of you resolve this issue? I've been running both CC and CC 2014 because I can't uninstall CC. I get this error when I try to run Adobe Uninstall - The alias “Uninstall Adobe InDesign CC” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found.

  • Can't uninstall CS5 or CS6.

    Hi,
    I'm having a problem when I try to uninstall CS5 and CS6 suites on my iMac.
    I installed CS5 suite like six months ago, then, two weeks ago I installed CS6, but before I uninstalled some components from the CS5 suite. Just remains Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
    I installed CS6 and all good, then, I had some problems with Encore CS6 so I found a post that says that I should use the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool. I did use it, all good.
    Today I'm having a second problem with links between Encore CS6 and Photoshop CS6, so I tought it could be because of Photoshop CS5 installed in the same Application folder. So I decided to uninstall that application, but, I can't.
    I can't uninstall any Adobe application from my iMac, I click on any 'Uninstall X application' and just appears this error: "The alias "UNINSTALL X ADOBE APPLICATION" can't be opened because the original item can't be found." The uninstaller just dissapeared for both Suites and I need to uninstall them.
    Can you help me community?
    Where can I get the Uninstaller for Adobe applications?
    Thanks.

    Run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, reinstall.
