I can't uninstall iTunes to reinstall it

Hi,
I seem to be having the same problem as a lot of other people regrading this latest update from apple (itunes 11.1.4) only I cannot uninstall itunes to try reinstalling it.
I downloaded the update today  and it said there was a failure. After that, I couldn't get in to itunes. I tried downloading it a installing it from the main apple site but got the same problem. I had a slightly older version of iTunes still on my PC so tried to install this. I think it was at thes point that I started getting a missing DLL file (mscvr80.dll). Though the old iTunes desktop icon is there and it is also in the program list in the uninstall panel.
After searching for a something to fix it, i used something called regfix which I think has caused more of a problem. I then started getting a runtime error saying a program had tried to fix it incorrectly (not seen that one lately though).
To be honest, I'm not sure in what order I did all the above - this has been going on quite a while now. At some point I've had the 'you are not an administrator' message as well.
Basically, I now get two-four runtime error boxes when I start my computer (r6034) and when I try to uninstall itunes it stops early on in the 'please wait while windows configures itunes' states box/panel and I get the following:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe
R6034
An application has made and attempt to load the C runtime library
incorrectly.
Please conact the applications's support team for more information.
Apologies if there is a solution somewhere else for this but although I can find the advice for uninstalling and reinstalling, it's the uninstalling I'm having trouble with (for some of the other apple programmes too, e.g. Apple Mobile Device support) and finding a solution for that.
Would really appreciate some help or pointing in the right direction of where I can find an uninstall solution so I can at least try to install the new version.
Thanks

I updated iTunes and it wiped out all my music in Windows Media Player so I tried a system restore, which will not now work.  I now find that I still do not have my music and iTunes has disappeared and will not allow either uninstall or install.
I followed all the instructions above but my 'programmes' will not allow uninstall or remove.

Can I uninstall iTunes and reinstall  as it is going to take 5 hours to update? Will I loose everything?

You can skip updating the iPad Software if you just want to sync it.
The Software Update itself should take no more than 20 minutes to install, so it sounds like your internet connection must be quite slow as iTunes must download the update before installing it.

My ios update keeps getting stuck on the Restoring iPhone software stage. I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it again, but still nothing. Now I can't even use my phone as it shows the plug into iTunes screen. Please help!!!! Thanks,

A Restore first downloads a new copy of iOS to your computer. On a slow Internet connection this can take a long time. How fast is your connection? How long would you expect it to take to download 900 MB?
That's assuming nothing is interfering with the download. Some firewalls and antivirus programs will block the download or slow it down. So you should temporarily disable your security software. Security software can also block the update after the iOS download is complete.

  • Can't reinstall, can't uninstall (iTunes)

Clicking on the iTunes icon doesn't launch iTunes, Windows says it doesn't exist! (oddly enough, clicking on a song file does launch iTunes, so how can it "not exist"? Stupid Windows...)
So I tried reinstalling the latest version of iTunes (which I already have, but it "doesn't exist" >_> )
Windows can't reinstall it because it says it can't uninstall the old version.
Also, the "Add or Remove Programs" can't uninstall iTunes because it can't find some .msi file, which I have no idea what it's talking about.

With that one, let's try the following procedure.
First, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. If it goes, good. If it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to iTunes.
Next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. Use it to clear any existing iTunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC. (Launch Windows Installer CleanUp, find any iTunes and/or QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.)
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, use the the following document as a guide for manual removal of any leftover iTunes and QuickTime program files:
Removing iTunes and QuickTime for Windows
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

If you are running Tiger, you don't have time machine.
You need to get something like SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner (sorry, I don't have a handy link for CCC but you can Google it to get their site) to make a clone of your drive on the external and then do incremental backups.  The free versions do a lot and you can upgrade to the full-service versions for small change if you need more.  The one time I used SuperDuper! for cloning a volume it worked just fine.
(My backup application is the last PPC capable version of Retrospect, which does a credible job, or has over the past ten-twelve years.)

  • I've just updated my iPhone to the new iPhone OS and now it won't work and iTunes won't recognise that it's there.  I've uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled twice and it's not working.  Please help.

I've just updated my iPhone to the new iPhone OS and now it won't work and iTunes won't recognise that it's there.  I've uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled twice and it's not working.  Please help.

I have not had wifi since November when I upgraded to the newest IOS version.  I called the Apple help line and they told me some things to do and I tried them all and they worked for a few hours and then wifi shut off again.  I kept doing what they told me and it worked for a couple more days and then I could never turn it on again.  My blue tooth doesn't work either.  I had to actually increase my data usage with AT&T becuase of this.  When I did that in December I went to the Apple store and was told that it is a hardware issue and since my phone is out of warranty I would have to pay for a new phone because they could not fix the issue.  My upgrade isn't up until June 2014 so not only do I have to wait for the upgrade and I am not paying for a new phone but I have to pay $10 plus extra a month on my cell phone bill because I was going over on my Data!!!  I have been beyond upset about this and Apple is not doing anything about this nor did they offer up some way to resolve the issue because obviously it is not just some rare incident if several people are having this issue.  Who knows how many people out there have had this issue and have not said anything about it.  Now there is a newer update that I can't do because it requires wifi in order to download.
June can not get here fast enough and I may not go back to Iphone after dealing with this for so long with no help from Apple.

I had this problem as well but found the soultion on another post from turingtest2 - it worked for me:
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or by right-clicking the downloaded installer and selectingRun as Administrator.

  • I have a 3gs. I tried to update the ios today. Now my phone is stuck in recovery mode and itunes is not recognizing. I also tried DFU mode, still nothing. I have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled. Help.

I have a 3gs, and I haven't updated it for a long time because I always have issues when I do. I tried to update the ios today, and it decided to update it to 6.1.3 instead of 7, I didn't think there would be a problem, so I clicked ok. When I came to check on my phone, itunes said there was an error with the update, and my phone was in recovery mode (plug-in sign on the screen). I looked up multiple things to try, I tried putting it in DFU mode, still itunes doesn't see it. The computer also doesn't list it under devices, however when it is plugged in the Apple Mobile Support USB Driver shows up in device manager. I have tried uninstalling itunes and reinstalling, still nothing. I just want to know if there is anything else I can try. Thanks.

No, it is my phone that I've had since 2009. I just hate updating it because every time I do something goes wrong. So I put it off as long as possible. I am getting a new iphone, but I read that to have your backup transfer to the new phone, it must be a backup from the current ios.

  • ITunes can't read my iPhone and now I can't uninstall iTunes. Help!

One day out of the blue I was unable to sync my iPhone 4S on iTunes. I then updated my iTunes to the latest version 11.0.1.
Error message then pops out when I opened iTunes "The software required for communitcating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repaire this for you?"
I selected "Yes" and another error message appeared "The software could not be repaired. Please reinstall iTunes if you wish to use these devices."
However, now I can't uninstall iTunes because after it uninstalls till the last 1 second, an error message kept appearing "Error getting file security: C:\Program Files\iTunes\ GetLastError:5"
I'm using Windows Vista 32-bit Operating system. And I've checked the file security for iTunes folder under Program Files and I'm the owner.
Attached below are the error messages I've been encountering. Can some kind soul advise me? Because now I can't update my songs in my iPhone and it's becoming obsolete if I can't do anything with it.
    Thank you!

Doublechecking. Did you just uninstall iTunes, and not the related software and components?
The 7 can be caused by damage to one of the other software components associated with iTunes (most commonly Apple Application Support). If that's what is afoot, a complete uninstall/reinstall may be of some assistance:

  • How to uninstall itune and reinstall it again?

how to uninstall itune and reinstall again?

Before you try un-installing iTunes you need to de-authorize the computer (otherwise, as I found out the hard way, iTunes will think that you've got 2 authorized computers on your account instead of just one).  You should also make sure that you have full backups of all your media content.  You can also back up the iTunes library file which contains your ratings, play counts, etc... which, depending on the size of your library, will save a bucketful of time after the re-installation.
If you've on a pc then the uninstall itself works the same way as if you were uninstalling any other software: go to Add or Remove Programs, select iTunes, click "Remove"... and wait (it'll take a while to complete).  Then go to the iTunes website and download it.
After that, you can re-load your media files, and import the library, from your backups.  iTunes should work just as well as it did before the re-installation.
    Hope this helps!
