I can't uninstall Quicktime so I can't uninstall/install iTunes!

I am trying to install the new version of iTunes. When I do, I get an error saying "A newer version of Quicktime is already installed. Cannot install Quicktime... blah blah blah."
Sounds simple right, I just uninstall said version and viola! It all works! Wrong.
I tried to UNinstall Quicktime and I got the EXACT same error. Uncool. Please help.

Go here and get the uninstaller : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Make sure iTunes isn't open and run it.
Then try again with a fresh download.

  • Can't uninstall Quicktime !! Can't use my IPOD!!! HELP!

Hi, I have an iPod Nano and can't even start using it because I can't install itunes. The problem is I have an 'old' version of Quicktime (v7.0.4) and for some reason it won't uninstall. I've never had any problems with Quicktime before and the program runs great on my system (Windows XP SP2). If I try installing Itunes--can't uninstall, if I try installing the new QT--can't uninstall AND says it can't find Quick Time.msi and want's me to point it to where it is. I searched my hard drive and Windows was unable to find this .msi file. How can I install itunes?????
    HELP!!!

Try using Microsoft's Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove the old version of Quicktime and iTunes.

  • Can't read m4v video files since I've installed Itunes 10.4 update.

    Hello,
I've bought video files on Itunes Store which were working perfectly so far on my macbook pro.
Since I've installed Itunes 10.4, when I launch m4v files, I just have a black non active screen, no message, nothing else.
Other video or audio files can be read.
I'm using mac OS X 10.6 so it's supposed to work.
My other mac (Imac) which is using Itunes 10.3 can read these m4v files without any problem.
So I tried to get back to Itunes 10.3 (for my macbook pro) but I can't cause the Library has now been created with a more recent version of Itunes.
Please tell me what should I do...

    Hello,
I have the exact same problem... anyone knows what to do?

  • Error message: Quicktime version 7.1.3 is installed, iTunes requires v. 7.5

So yeah, I plugged in my iPhone into my new computer that I just built for the first time, and I got this error. iTunes was working fine 2 hours before this. I have Quicktime v. 7.5.5 installed, and just downloaded iTunes yesterday. I tried reinstalling, same message. What gives?

Try removing QUicktime using the method for Quicktime in this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Then download and install the version of Quicktime that does not include iTunes (the second option):

  • I am trying to uninstall QuickTime so I can reinstall with the latest version. It won't uninstall, says fatal error, any ideas welcome, thanks

I am unable to update to iTunes because evry time it says there is no Quck Time installed. but Quick Time is there. I am following the advice from Apple Support to uninstall iTunes first.... this was successful. The second one was Quick Time but it refuses to uninstall and repeatedly says there is a fatal error during installation. I believe it is really there at 70.12 Mb but am now at a loss. Any help gratefully received. SBM

SBM, you might want to try Microsoft Cleanup Utility to remove the old Quicktime msi file

How much HD space do you have left?
Not sure if this matters but, make sure your HD is Journaled.
Repair permissions & then restart your computer.

  • Can't update quicktime, so I can't upgrade to pro

Here's the error I get as soon as I click 'update.'
    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.
    Help?

+Yes it still occurs after creating a new account. My original account has full rights offered. I also found out that if I change the video setting within 'Quicktime-preferences' the update feature will work when using both the help button or edit-preferences after re-starting Quicktime. If I switch it back to Directx then re-start Quicktime it gives error using both the help tab or edit-preferences tab when trying to update. I'm thinking it's related between both Quicktime and DirectX.+
Not a preferences thing then ... I'm coming around to the position that it is a video drivers thing.
At least one person is reporting in the following thread (ignore my early contributions ... a mistake in the first report of the error message had me going off down a blind alley), that if they rollback to an earlier version of the nVidia video driver, they got past this crash using "Help > Update ..." or the Update tab. I now notice properly that you've got an nVidia video card.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6296336#6296336
Checking something about your getting past the crash:
+if I change the video setting within 'Quicktime-preferences' the update feature will work when using both the help button or edit-preferences after re-starting Quicktime+
D'ye mean "Go to the QuickTime control panel (or go "Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences ..." and in the Audio tab, check "Safe mode (wave out only)", click OK, restart QuickTime, and then try a "Help > Update ..."?
(Hoping here that we can get a better workaround for Dakk than rolling back his video drivers,)

  • AAC (.m4a) file can play in Quicktime player... but not in iTunes!

I have QuickTime player v7.6.9. I also have iTunes 10.2.1.1
I have an AAC-encoded file which can play perfectly in the QuickTime player. It shows the song has a duration of 3:46.
I tried to add this to my iTunes library. It shows up with a duration of 789:57:13 and iTunes refuses to play it... just moves on to the next song on the list.
    What's this all about?

Well, I'm not sure how this file was encoded originally, but luckily I had "faad" (Freeware Advanced Audio Decoder) installed on a nearby Ubuntu Linux machine.
I copied the AAC/.m4a file to the Ubuntu machine.
In a terminal, switched to the directory where the AAC file was and typed "faad yourmusic_filename.m4a" which created a .WAV file.
I copied the .WAV file to the Windows machine running iTunes.
Had iTunes add the .WAV file to the library.
Selected the .WAV file in the library and did "Advanced -> Create AAC Version".
Now I also have an AAC version of the song in the library that will play in both iTunes and QuickTime.
Say, wouldn't it be nice if iTunes would actually FIX the file on its own in the first place... or at least be a little more receptive to any AAC file you can throw at it like its QuickTime brother?

  • I updated to itunes 11, uninstalled it according to directions, and  re-installed itunes 10.7.021 for windows 64bit.  Now Iget the message itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by an earlier version of itunes

I updated my computer to Itune 11, did not like it, and uninstalled it exactly according to directions. I re-installed Itune10.7.021 for Windows 64bit, but now I keep getting the message "The file  itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes.  How can I resolve this problem?

zepel has it, but perhaps some more detail will help.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Help: Can't Unstall Quicktime

Trying to uninstall Quicktime so I can install iTunes 7. The installation of inTunes 7 has been stalling because it says it cannot uninstall an older verion of Quicktime.
    Steps taken thus far:
    1. Done add/remove of Quicktime (though it doesn't remove the Quicktime image)
    2. Deleted Quicktime and iTunes folders from Programs and from Windows/System32
    3. Done "search" for all things Quicktime and deleted any file named Quicktime.
Nonetheless, still get the message: An older version of Quicktime cannot be removed.
Help! What am I missing to uninstall this program so I an move forward with iTunes?
    Thanks in advance.

okay, there may still be corrupt QT installation
    configuration information on the PC.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp
utility. then use it to clear any existing
    QuickTime installation configuration
    information from your PC:
    Descrip
tion of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
after removing the QT installation configuration
information, restart the PC and try another iTunes
install. does it go through properly this time?
I got this nasty error after I cloned my old hard drive to a newer big one and tried to update iTunes. I have been battling this problem for over a week. Here is what I have done so far and I still can't get it to install
    1) Uninstalled all apple products (including iTunes)
    2) Deleted all quicktime values from the system registry using regedit. This took forever because I went back and got all QT related values such as QTUtility mentions.
    3) Used the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
    4) Downloaded an older version of QuickTime.
None of this worked, as I still got the same error. Here is what finally fixed my problem:
    1) Deleted all files in C:\windows\temp.
Save yourself some time if you get this error and delete your temp folder first
