I can't uninstall Skype.

So I wanted to get the new update for skype 6.0. I still had 5.10 at the time so i went to update it. It said "The older version of Skype 5.10 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group." And then i get a Skype information pop up that says "Installing Skype failed; code 1603 A fatal error occurred during installation." So I tryed support and got nothing useful so I figure I could just uninstall my current Skype and then re-install the up to date one. So then I go to Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features and click Skype and proceed to try and uninstall it. And get a message saying, "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click the OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Skype.msi' in the box below.
C:\ProgramData\Skype\{EE7257A2-39A2-4D2F-9DAC-F9F25B8AE1D8}\ "
So then I didnt know what was going on since this has never happened to me before. Then I went on to try and delete all the skype folders manually. Once I that and deleted it all I downloaded the skype installer and ran it. Then I get "The older version of Skype 6.0 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group." And the got the same "Installing Skype failed; code 1603 A fatal error occurred during installation." message. Now im Skype-less and pissed off at the fact that nothing is working........seriously is it that hard to delete something off my computer?!?! Anyway if anyone can help me fix this I would be so greatful. Thanks

  • How can I uninstall Skype for modern UI from windo...

    Hi,
I am running the tech preview of windows 10.  I exclusively use desktop mode and have Skype for Windows desktop installed.   I have never installed Skype for Modern UI.   However when I receive an incoming call I get two call answer dialogs, one from the desktop client and one from the modern UI client.   I have tried right click the modern UI skype icon in the start menu and choosing uninstall however that only opens the uninstall a program control panel windows.   This window only shows the desktop version as being available for uninstallation.
The annoying thing is that after I answer using the desktop cient the modern UI client keeps ringing forever or until I click on the X (close windows) icon in the top right corner of the notification dialog.   If I take the call on my win 8 laptop (desktop client) then my desktop modern UI client will continue to ring forever.   If I am using my laptop at work and take a call at say 11 am, when I get home at 6 pm the modern UI client is sitting there still ringing from the 11 o'clock call which was answered on a different computer hours before.
I have uninstalled the desktop client from the windows 10 desktop and then used regedit to remove every registry key I can find with skype in it and then re-installed the desktop client but the modern UI client comes back too?   Is there anyway to get rid of the modern UI client on windows 10, it is most annoying!

    Hi,
Windows 10 Tech Preview is an unsupported platform currently while we at Microsoft are working towards the release of the OS update later this year.
The suggested workaround is indeed to uninstall the "Skype for modern Windows" client and only use "Skype for Windows desktop". If you are struggling with getting the modern client removed please have a look at "Settings -> Apps" and try to remove it there.

  • How can I uninstall Skype?

I changed from windows to a mac about 18 months ago and I can't beleive the difficulties I have had.. I have been unable to download the latest version of Skype for many months now.. I have googled and followed every post I can find on the subject and ended up with more rubbish in my hard drive that I cant get rid of and still no success.. With windows uninstalling was always a straight forward simple operation.. Ok forgive me I'm so frustrated.. I will try to explain the problem:
When the new version of skype arrived I tried to download it and after apparently downloading it says "Skype was unable to install the update because the old application cant be overwritten" so then I google and read that I need to uninstall the old version first.. why this happened I don't know as alwasy before new versions downloaded without a problem.. so when I find it (Skype.app) in finder it will not drag to trash.. though it does not seem to be in 'Applications' or 'Utilities' it seems to be amongst some pictures?.. I have tried to move it to Applications but again it seems it will not be moved?.. I also have a Skype 'disc image' in my trash and when I try to empty trash it says "The operation can’t be completed because the item “Skype_5.8.0.945.dmg is in use". It says this even after I quit skype. I then read somewhere that the way to get rid of it was use 'app cleaner' so I downloaded that and it didnt work and now i seem to be stuck with that in my dock and yet i cant find it anywhere else and it doesn't seem to do anything? All this happened months ago when after hours of frustration I just gave up and decided to live with the old version of skype.. Then today I was trying to clean up a few things I dont want and ended up trying again.. this time i downloaded another thing called AppTrap which is now also stuck in my trash because it didnt work either and now I cant get rid of that either! By now you are probably thinking I am a halfwit! well I have never been great with all this stuff but when I had a windows PC I managed to uninstall things without a problem.. I have found some explanations of how to solve these kind of issues that sound like you have to be not only a computer genius but also have endless free time which I just dont have.. can anyone help me? Thanks in advance!

Hi, sorry to hear the problems & frustration.
The DMG might be mounted, & Skype may be running in the background...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), then...
To completely uninstall, and then reinstall Skype for Mac:
Quit Skype by selecting Skype > Quit Skype.
Open your Applications folder and drag your copy of Skype to the trash.
Then open ~/Library/Application Support * and drag the Skype folder to the trash. The ~ sign represents your home folder. To find your home folder, open Finder and, from the menu bar, select Go > Home.
Important: If you’d like to keep your chat and call history, skip this step.
Open ~/Library/Preferences and drag com.skype.skype.plist to the trash.
Open Finder and search for “Skype” using the search feature in Mac OS X. Move all of the results returned to the trash.
Click Ctrl and the trash icon, and select Empty Trash.
    Restart your computer.
Download and install the latest version of Skype.
    Get help with installing Skype.
*By default, the Library folder is hidden in Mac OS X v10.7 “Lion” and higher. To find your Library folder, open Finder and, from the menu bar, select Go, press and hold the option key, and then select Library.
    Reboot.

  • I can't update skype and can't uninstall it. Help!

I use skype quite fequently, but I'm getting annoyed by it:
I keep getting a message every time I start my computer prompting me to update skype. Trouble is I have tried numerous times and every time I try it comes back with an error code and tells me that it can't update it because there is another version of sype still running, saying I need to uninstall that version first.
However I can't uninstall it because 'Skype' is not showing up in my list of programs when I go to the control panel and click 'uninstall a program'.
I've even tried to just delete it from the C drive/program files(86), but that it also won't allow me to do because 'the program is open in another application', even when I've used Task Manager to shut it down.
All in all a massive headache.
    Any advice, please!

Anyway, modify to remove these extensions and all should be okay. doesn't work with the mystart malware as this is still on your PC and therefore when Firefox starts up, it puts itself back into the extensions. this may be the same with some toolbars.

  • Installed skype 7.6 but can't uninstall old version.

Hello, I recently upgraded to 7.6 as advised and it works fine. However, the old version is still installed and continues to ring and ring when I connect on the new version.I cannot find the old version on my programmes list to uninstall it.  What has happened here?

downloaded quicktime standalone version, no luck there, says it can't uninstall the old version, error 1714, then it says fatal error -1603 during installation.
let's first try this technique to see if we can get past the 1714.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions in the following document as a guide to a manual removal of leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try another careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?

  • Can't open Skype at all on Macbook Pro

I have been struggling with Skype for a long time on my Macbook Pro and wondered if anyone has any advice. When I try to open the application, it crashes immediately before I can even log in. This has been the behaviour for several versions of Skype now, so I am starting to think there is something on my machine which conflicts with it and the problem will not be solved by waiting for a future release of Skype.
Currently it is failing with version 6.0.60.2496 of Skype (downloaded today) on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.8.2. The machine is a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of RAM, purchased in 2009. Exactly the same problem occurred in Lion, before I upgraded to Mountain Lion.
I have tried a number of steps to solve the problem, including:
    * Removing the /skype folder from /Library/Application Support and the preference file from Preferences, uninstalling Skype, restarting in Safe Mode, downloading it again, installing and trying to open it
    * Changing the settings in Text to Speech to a different voice
    * Downloading an older version of Skype and trying to run that
Everything crashes instantly every time and I am unable to use Skype at all.
Skype support have told me there's nothing further they can suggest and they think it may be a conflict with my System fonts, but I am desperate for any advice from someone who has encountered (and hopefully solved!) a similar problem.
Many thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    Hi Katherine,
You'll need to save it to a different format to use it on a Mac. If you can still open them on the HP, that would probably be the easiest. Save them as a Mac compatible format such as .mpg. If that doesn't work, here is a converter you can try: http://www.squared5.com/

  • How to uninstall Skype Extender in Macbook Pro?

i got Skype Extender application from www.Apple.com and  installed successfully, but right now i dont want skype extender application so i'm try to uninstall skype extender its showing "application is open so u can't uninstall" so how to close application (No way to quit) and also how to uninstall please every one suggest me.

Then I submit you didn't look in /Library/LaunchAgents on your boot volume as opposed to ~/Library/LaunchAgents in you user (home) directory.
I just ran the installer to verify my assumtions about that installer.  Here's all the stuff that that installer installs:
    /Applications/SkypeExtenderMenu.app
    /Applications/SkypeExtender.app
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.zysk.SkypeExtenderMenu.Launch.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.zysk.SkypeExtender.Launch.plist
    /Library/Frameworks/Skype.framework
    /private/var/db/receipts/com.zysk.skypeextender/com.zysk.*
[* represents 12 files all beginning with com.zysk. which I didn't bother to list here]
So those guys must be there. I manually removed all this stuff, logged out, back in, and there are no SkypeExtender apps running just as I knew there wouldn't be.
Note, I didn't mention it previously but you should also toss the framework (and maybe receipts too if you want a full removal of all the SkypeExtender stuff) although it's not hurting anything being there other than taking up a little disk space.

  • How to uninstall Skype

    Hello,
I am looking for a way to uninstall Skype, which is not stored in Application folder in Macintosh HD, but rather show up as if it's one of external hard drives connected to Mac. When I drag the icon to trash, it only "rejects." When I reboot my computer, the icon show up again on the desktop. How can I get rid of it permanently.
    Thanks in advance.

    Niel,
Thanks for your response. I followed your instruction, but somehow I couldn't empty the trash. The message came up and said, "the operation cannot be completed because the item is in use." This happened even after I ejected the icon from the desktop. Skype is NOT in use as far as I can tell.
Any thought? Thanks again in advance.

  • Skype crashes. Can't end Skype.exe. Access is Deni...

Lately I've been encountering this problem where Skype crashes and does not let me end the process. I'll try to include as much detail as I can. When the crash occurs, it isn't really announced. You can verify the crash has occurred by simply trying to change your status to Online, Away, Do Not Disturb, etc. If you go to change your status and nothing happens, then I know this crash that I'm referring to has indeed happened. You can close Skype normally. It will close, however, the process Skype.exe won't remove from the RAM. I'm on Windows 8, and if you go to Details on my Task Manager, you can see the process is still active. The RAM usage is not fluxuating, it's as if it's stuck. If you try to end the process once, nothing happens. If you try to end it a second time or more, you'll receive a message that says "Skype.exe cannot be terminated. Access is Denied." I'm not the only one with this problem. I've read that others have encountered it, too.
The only way I can make it so I can use Skype again is to restart my computer because it's effectively the only way to clear my cache (that I know of). The occurring nature of this problem is sporadic. I tried to pinpoint it, but I just can't. Sometimes it happens when my Internet goes out. I reset my router, and when I reconnect, Skype becomes unresponsive. It doesn't only happen when I reconnect from an Internet disconnection. Sometimes it just happens without any change that I know of. I can go days without the problem occurring. Some days, the problem happens in periods that require me to restart multiple times to get it to work. Most people tell me to just use the Windows 8 version of Skype to avoid these issues, but Windows 8 lacks some of the ease of access that the Desktop version of Skype has that I've grown accustomed to as well as the ability to change the volume in my volume mixer. I'd have trouble with either version, honestly. Please respond when you can, any help and solutions will be much appreciated.
Also, I want to note that if I I try to end the process when this crash has not occurred, it does end successfully. This problem, for me, is exclusive to this crash.
    My DxDiag: http://tny.cz/ea7c1ac9

    I'm having the same problem
Since Microsoft take over skype I've never been able to run skype without problems. It seems that everytime they upgrade skype, this problem comes again.
The worse part is, skype crashes, can't kill process (even with procexp, and whatever solution you think work), can't open new skype, connection wifi becomes instable, and after a while I lose connection to internet, can't even do a clean shutdown because it hangs when closing (I guess because of this special skype process that can't be killed).
Every time I put the laptop to sleep, when I come in again, skype crashes, and the problem comes.
I've more windows shutdowns in this last month than I had during the last 2 years.
What is the solution ? Uninstall Skype and go for another chat/phone/video solution ? Can I've my credit money back ?
Please fix this problem. I'm really very anoid with this new SKYPE FEATURE
    Thank you
