Ahhh, the mysteries of software updating...glad it is working for you now. Sometimes you just have to be persistent until iTunes figures out you aren't going to go away.
So, are you now updating the iPhone to iOS 5.0.1?
If you already have 5.0 and a wireless connection you don't need to use iTunes to update to 5.0.1...the wireless update only means a file of about 38 MB, while via iTunes it is the entire iOS and about 730 MB...big time difference.

The instructions are in that link. Just follow them VERY CAREFULLY. Especially the part about:
Turn off your device and leave it off.
Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes. [but DON'T connect it to the iPhone yet]
Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
When you see the iTunes screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 again.
When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You'll see a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in recovery mode.
Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.

There's no <--> key on ANYones keyboard. (Great answer Shootist )
The other part of his answer is only applicable to certain windows (browsers specifically) as there is NO system wide maximize command in the manner you are asking.
Apple's "maximize" function (green +) simply maximizes the window to the content, not the screen.

Solved it by opening the setup file in winrar and reparing "mobilesupport" (or something like that)

My iPhone won't sync with my iTunes because it says I need to download the latest version of iTunes, which I already did. I've tried to redownload multiple times but it just keeps telling me I already have it downloaded.

It sounds like you have downloaded iTunes from the download site, but when you connect the phone to your computer you are prompted to update iTunes to 11.1. I would start by opening iTunes and then verifying the version that is running with this article:

On Windows
Open iTunes.
On the Help menu, click About iTunes. A window appears with scrolling text. The first text that appears displays the iTunes version (press the Space bar to freeze the text if it's moving too fast for you to read).
Also when you download the iTunes installer, you MUST double click the file that was downloaded to install it.
You can check in your Programs folder and try running the iTunes application from there to see if that works.

Can not update apps on iPhone or iTunes

I updated my iPhone 3GS to iOS 4.3.3 yesterday and I now can't update any apps via my phone or iTunes.
On my phone I get the error "Cannot connect to iTunes Store"
On iTunes I get "We're sorry, we cannot complete your request on the iTunes Store at this time. Please try again later"
Any ideas on how I can fix it.......Many Thanks in advance for any help

Well I finally got the apps updated. How? I deleted them from the iPhone and then in iTunes the app became unchecked. I checked the app and then it was installed on the iPhone. The only problem was that any data associated with those apps was lost. With the games it was just the high scores, but with apps like Splash ID and Fuel Gauge it was all my passwords and a years worth of fuel fill-up data. I tried a restore of all that data using the backup, but what happened there was that when the iPhone restored the back-up it also restored the out dated app as well. Therefore the only thing I could do is re-enter al the data that was lost all over again. At least with Splash ID that was a sync with the desktop application. With Fuel Gauge it's a matter of going back and re-entering everything again. I hope this doesn't happen everytime I need to update a program.

How can I activate my unlocked iPhone through iTunes without a SIM card?

I have a new iPhone 4 that I bought unlocked. It's intended use is not as a phone, but more of an iPod touch. I want to activate it, but iTunes tells me I need a sim. Is there a way I can activate the phone for use with iTunes w/o obtaining a sim?

There is no way to do this with a stock Apple firmware. I am in the same boat. I wanted to use my old iPhone strictly for development, as I am upgrading to the new iPhone. Unfortunately, I got bitten by the SIM card problem and my phone old phone won't even recognize a SIM card anymore. In my opinion, requiring a SIM just to use apps on the phone needs to go away. Have problems staying connected since I downloaded latest version... also don't like the history drop down menu now. I use yahoo because its what came with my DSL from Verizon. Can I go back to the other version of Firefox or can this be fixed?

I can run about an hour and then it hangs up. Doesn't seem to depend on what website or program I am running. I walk away to change the laundry and come back and its hung. In the middle of a game on facebook, it hangs. Didn't have this problem with the version I used before. I have always liked Firefox and have used for a number of years. Don't want to change if it can be fixed.

You should be able to have NoSquint working properly if you use an extension to restore the Add-on toolbar.

Try restarting your iPod. Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

1) Many items greyed out in the menu bar, for well over 2 years, maybe more!
2) I Can't drag more than one piece of content from your iTunes library to any device (iPhone, iPad)
If you do it gets stuck for HOURS and HOURS in "Preparing To Update" and the little activity circle never completes, ever!!
I used to be able to drag over 1000 tunes, movies, etc. go have breakfast come back and it would all be on my device!!
Can't do it anymore, one song at a time, maybe an album at a time, or one movie, and that is it!!
If you do a 2nd item the other items stop loading and never continue!!
This is so BAD, I don't understand how they don't have this fixed yet!!
Please tell me I am not the only one!!
...and If I am tell me how to fix it!
