I can't update my iPhoto.

I want to update iPhoto, but I am told "Update Unavailable with This Apple ID."  I don't understand how this one app has another apple ID, and I can't figure out what that ID is.  I tried to just start over and repurchace the app with my ID, but I can't because it is already on my computer.  Help!  If I delete iPhoto will I loose my pictures?  How can I fix this?
Thanks!

Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
Follow the directions in this support article.
Step 2
Associate your Apple ID with your user account. Then sign in to the App Store with the same ID.

/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select

from the contextual menu.* A folder may open with a file named "adoption.plist" selected. If it does, move the file to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Log out, log back in, and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • I can't update my iPhoto 8.1.2, everything says I need to upgrade to 9.0 first - but i can't find 9.0

I can't update my iPhoto 8.1.2, everything says I need to upgrade to 9.0 first - but i can't find 9.0.  I upgraded to mac ios 10.9.3 but I'm trying to use iphots in icloud and it says my iphoto needs to be updated first.  I just can't figure out how to update it.

This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1

    Content and Apple IDs -
Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with one Apple ID with a new Apple ID.

  • I can't update my iPhoto. "Update is not available for this Apple ID".

Updating my iPhoto has always been a problem.  When I try, I get the error of: "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
This is the only apple ID I have ever owned, and now that I updated my Mac with the new software, I can't even OPEN iPhoto anymore. Now I can't view any of my photos and I am not a happy camper..
How can I fix this problem?????

  • I can't update my iPhoto to 9.2 version

I tried several times to update from iPhoto 9.1.3 (now running on my MacBook Pro) to iPhoto 9.2 to use iCloud. But the software-update says my system is up-to-date and if I try to download iPhoto 9.2 from the Apple website it can't be installed because the installation system thinks I am not running iPhoto 9.1 - Sorry my english is perhaps not so well, but I am from the Netherlands... I hope someone can help me out anyway.

Have you moved iPhoto from where it is normally installed? If so, put it back.

  • Photos can't update my iPhoto Librairy

Photo.app ask to reach my librairy then turn round for hours.
After times, it says it can't update for no permissions ?
    How manage this ?

my iphoto is in 9.1.4ver. Hence I need to update it to ver 9.5.1 from app store.
I am unaware of an iPhoto version 9.1.4. The first Mac App Store version was 9.4.3. Any MAS version can only be updated with the Apple ID used to install it. You would not have been able to update any apps installed by the store's Apple ID.
The first version of 9.4.3 and anything prior to that was from a retail DVD. If your iLife apps are from a DVD at some point in the past you will need to buy the upgrade to the current versions for Mavericks.

  • I can't update my iPhoto after upgrading to Maverick

I just upgraded to Mavericks and ever since, my iPhoto (v. 9.2) will not work. It has a grey circle with a line through it over the application. I do see in my app store I have an update for iPhoto 11, but when I try to upgrade it and enter my apple ID, I get this error message. I only have this one apple ID and password, so I have no idea why it is saying this. I am so scared I've lost my photos!!!
    Error message reads:
Update Unavailable with this Apple ID:
This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.
I do not understand this or what to do. I have not ever tried to purchase this previously.
    PLEASE HELP!!

You must log into th eApp store using the Apple ID that was used to set up the computer
If that is not working then you must contact App store support - link is on the right of the app store windw

  • I can't update my iPhoto! Help?!

Whenever I try to update my iPhoto, it says that I used another account to purchase it, but I don't even have another apple account. My older version of iPhoto wasn't even supported by OS X Mavericks?! Why is that?!

  • Can't update my iPhoto 9.4.2 to 9.4.3

When I search for new updates in iPhoto its comes with the message " new update availible" and then I open software update in the app store. Software update doesn't see any new updates. I downloaded the 9.4.3 manualy and then I get a warning that I need iPhoto 9.1 or higher. I don't know what to do now.
    OS X version 10.8.3 iPhoto 9.4.2

That is strange.  Try deleting the iPhoto preference and cache files and then relaunch iPhoto:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and check it's version again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

There is no such thing as an "SG3" or "SG4".  Did you possibly mean a 3GS and iPhone4?
It has always been very basic to ensure that a backup exists of your media and other important files.  Computers fail, hard drives crashes... things happen.  Do you not have a backup?  The iPhone, like all iDevices is NOT a backup of your media, but rather a mirror of the content in the iTunes library on your computer.
If your contacts, pics, etc are not on your computer, no backups of the iPhone exist, and they are not on the phone, they are gone.
No one can magically make them re-appear.

  • I can't update my iPhoto to 9.2.1

Resently my harddisc of my macbook pro crashed. I had a new one installed and I did a timemachine restore. But I gave my mac an other name.
When I want to update iPhoto it says that the update is available on an other account.
How can I solve this problem?
    tnx

I had a similar problem.   I have a brand new Macbook air, and when I first booted it up, it told me I needed to update iPhoto 9.2 via the app store.  I went to the app store, and it told me I needed to do this from another account.  I have only one account.   I called the apple support number  and after 92 minutes and three different people, they put me in touch with the app store support people  (via email)  I would hear from them once a day.
Eventually I got 3 codes to redeem in the store for each of the 3 apps in ilife 11.
For iphoto, after a short while a button appeared on the purchases page that said update.  I clicked that and got the same message that I needed to do this from another account.   I then moved iphoto from apps to trash and tried again.  At this point it downloaded it and all seems to be well.   I won't know for sure until the next update.

  • HT1338 Can't update my iPhoto and iMovie! Always pop up a window says "you have updates available for other accounts; To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it."

How could I update my apps with my only apple account?

I had this issue too after installing Mountain Lion (like others in the thread, I also just have one account/ID). The Spotlight fix didn't work. I ended up uninstalling iPhoto and iMovie and purchasing them from the App Store, hoping I'd be able to claim a refund later. It got rid of the update messages fine, but it's harder than I expected to find somewhere to ask for a refund. I can't enter a Taiwan number to call on the support site.
This is my first Mac - what with this and the ML battery bug, things aren't going as smoothly as I expected.

  • Can't update preinstalled iPhoto and iMovie Apps.

    Hi,
Finally converted to Mac for the first time upon receiving a shiny new Macbook Pro yesterday morning, however I have encountered a slightly annoying problem already.
I have notifications in the App store to say that iPhoto and iMovie need updating. These came preinstalled on my new MBP. When I try to update however, I get an error message asking me to sign up to the account from which I purchased them.
I did look on this forum and saw that this is a common-ish problem, and that usually a fix can be found in instances where these Apps are pre-installed by going into the purchases tab on the App store and 'accepting' the iLife Apps. However, when I click that tab I'm told I haven't yet purchased anything. When I go into System Pref. and Users, my admin account is linked to my Apple ID there, so I can't see why the preinstalled Apps are not showing up on my purchase record so can 'accept' them and thus update.
As I'm new to Mac I just thought I'd post here in case I'm missing something pretty basic that would solve this issue, if not I'll get in touch with Apple.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico my first language is Spanish. I do not speak English, however I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Since you are new to Apple, have you ever actually established an iTunes/Mac App Store account with this Apple ID and/or made a purchase with it?
