I can't update or delete (to reinstall) iTunes. I get a message that "iTunes.msi" can't be found or is not available. It's there but may be corrupted? Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on 25 June 2010. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

What model iPod do you have? This feature is not supported on all models. You are positive you are holding down the Select (Center) button with the song highlighted until it disappears? Are you sure you are in your On-the-Go playlist and not just a regular one?

The dragging does not work:
- Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
- For other music you will need a third-party program like one of those discused here:
Copy music
- Connect the iPod to your compouter and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up.
- Restore the iPod from that backup
Nothe that the backup that iTunees makes does not include synced media like apps nd music.

Unless you've recently attempted to downgrade iTunes this is probably a sign of a corrupt library file. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

It's a POP account. I decided to clean up my mailbox today after noticing the computer was real slow after USA Today started sending their daily top stories with new graphics. Also before I noticed the problem with mail deletion - two things happened. 1) I updated security sofware as prompted by Apple and 2) downloaded Mackeeper and went throught some preliminary scans but did not buy their package. I recently attempted to " update " iTunes and received the missing .dll and Windows error message it seems everyone is posting. I had to delete not only Itunes, but the Apple update and other associated file in order to get my Pioneer DVD DVR 218-L to work. The driver would not work and Microsoft had no fix for this. It told my registry was corrupt. Apple should certainly fix this problem. Now I cannot run iTunes at all unless I do not want a functioning DVD drive?

I am having the same issue with Vista 64 bit: After many failed download attempts ("network error") the Progress Bar briefly appears and that's it.
Searched for solution that led me to running "Microsoft FixIt", deinstalling iTunes, Apple Software Update, Mobile Dev Support, Bonjour, and Application Support - even manually deleting common files that were left over (tough with Vista). No difference. FYI, I was able to get rid of the Apple folder in Program Files (x86)/Common File, but not in Program Files/Common Files ... but that shouldn't make a difference as I am installing iTunes64Setup.exe, right?
I even tried iTunes 10.7 and 10.6.3 from Apple's support page ... same differnce.
Had a lot of security updates on 1/22/14 (all related to Office 2007 (including SP3), though). So I tried to restore past this point, but an "unknown error" occurred and I am stuck where I am ... lovely.

Which particular .msi file is the message mentioning? (Several different .msi files might be referenced in this context: itunes.msi, bonjour.msi, AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi, etc.)

Try VLC Media Player. It has a reputation for playing just about anything you throw at it.

Since I updated to the latest version, I keep getting a message that the server can't connect with urls containing the word "file" . I just want the messages to stop. It's working just fine otherwise.

See above. Message comes up every hour or so. Three times in a row.

Restart the iPad by holding down on the Sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut Off. To power up hold the Sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time (for about 10-15 seconds) until the Apple logo appears (ignore the red slider), then let go of the buttons.
If the proble is associated with not being connected via wireless, look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Additional things to try.
Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
On your iPad go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings and see if that enables you to connect.
