I can't update to Logic Studio 9

I just bought a MacBookPro, I try to install Logic and it tells me that power PC applications are not supportrd.
Ironically I bought an upgrade to Logic Studio just one year ago and I can't use both of them. Any suggestions?

Hi
Which version of Logic Studio and 'upgrade' are we talking about here (the one with Logic 8, or the one with Logic 9)?
The only problem with the original (Logic 8) Studio on Lion is that the Installer will not run (PPC application). Logic 8.0.2 itself runs fine on Lion.
If the OP has a Logic 9 Studio upgrade, all that is required is to install the upgrade disks and to enter the original and upgrade serials. Software updates may well be required after installation.

  • Pro Applications Update 2008-02 Update for Logic Studio Owners?

I received Compressor 3.0.3 as part of the Logic Studio 8 bundle.
Pro Applications Update 2008-02 states that it upgrades Compressor 3.0.3, however, Software Update does not offer to update Compressor nor can I download it manually since it is demanding that I provide a Final Cut Pro serial number (which I do not have, I have only the Logic Studio serial number which it won't take).
Does anyone have any idea what Logic Studio owners are supposed to do to obtain Pro Applications Update 2008-02?
    Dave

Well, I would agree except that the update specifically provides an update for Compressor 3.0.3 which Logic Studio owners have as well and the update description states that it is recommended for all Logic Studio users.
"Pro Applications Updates improve reliability for Apple's professional applications and are recommended for all users of Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Server, and Logic Studio.
Pro Applications Update 2008-02 addresses installation issues, compatibility updates, and general performance issues and improves overall stability.
    Applications included in the update:
    Final Cut Pro 6.0.4
    Compressor 3.0.3"

  • FYI Pro App update for Logic Studio

The lastest Pro App update is available from Apple. This includes Final Cut apps and Logic Studio.

    I suppose this is true.
I just installed it on my machine and now my life is perfection.
Any notable improvements you can report?

  • No Soundtrack Pro or ProApp updates for Logic Studio users?

I attempted to download updates for Soundtrack Pro and the ProApp update but was asked for a Final Cut serial number - - whichm as a Logic Studio owner I do not have. So what's up - - are these updates not signifcant for those who purchased and use Logic Studio? Please advise.

You shouldn't need to go to the download page, just run software update and it should show up. Do any OS and Pro App updates first, the STP upgrade won't show up there until you do.

  • Can't update final cut studio 5.0.1 to 5.0.4

I am trying to upgrade my original version of final cut studio to 5.0.4. I have scoured the web for info and have tried everything to force the update. I've downloaded the 5.0.4 update file from apple. The installer window prompt tells me: THIS INSTALLER PACKAGE NEEDS TO RUN A PROGRAM TO DETERMINE IF IT CAN BE INSTALLED. DO YOU WANT TO CONTINUE. When I continue I get: FinalCutPro5.0.4Update cannot be installed on this computer. This updater is only able to update an existing Final Cut Pro 5.0, 5.0.1, 5.0.2, or 5.0.3 application. Please make sure the application is located in the Applications folder, and is called "Final Cut Pro". My hardrive apps folder has a file called 'Final Cut Pro HD' (it's 5.0.1). Then someone told me to move the original pkge file from the library to desktop to prompt the updater. Nothing seems to allow me to upgrade? I'm running OSX 10.3.9 and was running Quicktime 7.1.6 Now because Apple tech support told me to run the updater on everything so that Final Cut might be recognized I upgraded to 7.4.5 I hope I'm not going to regret the QuickTime upgrade? I need 5.0.4 because 5.0.1 is not recognizing my P2 files.

Thanks to you both, I found the misplaced booklets with the new serial number and am in the process of installing right now.
I've gotten so many new toys in the past couple months it's been difficult to keep everything straight...but what a great problem to have!

  • Can't update to Logic Express 7.2.1. Help please?

I have Logic Express 7.0. I just recently tried to download / install the update to 7.2.1 but it said it couldn't find a Logic file in my applications folder. I tried the update to 7.1 as well and got the same message. Clearly, the application IS in my applications folder so I don't know why it wn't install. Can anyone help me out? I would really like to get the latest version of LE. Am I downloading something wrong? Doing something wrong?

    Hi D,
from 7.0 to 7.1 (payd) to have to Buy the upgrade DVD (7.1), via download you can get the free 7.1.1.
the same with 7.2 (DVD) and 7.2.1 also via free download.

  • Use Logic Studio to upgrade to LE 8

I'm sure this answer is in the manuals, but since I don't have them with me, I'm posting it here: is it possible to use the Logic Studio install set to upgrade a LE7 installation to LE8, or does that require a completely different path?
    TIA

No, Logic Pro (with Logic Studio) is a different application to Logic Express.
Serial number differences aside, Logic Pro cannot install Logic Express for you.
You can update your LE7 to LE8, or you can update your LE7 to Logic Studio.
You can't update to Logic Studio and also get a free copy of LE8... ( ! )

  • How can I update Logic Pro X offline

How can I update my Logic Pro X on my 27" iMac at my project studio withouth internet access? I obviously moved the huge iMac to the studio after installing Logic Pro X, but I don’t intend to move it from the studio to my home whenever I need to update software.
Also there is virtually no 3G coverage in the area, so tethering is not an option either.
Will there be offline updates available (couldn’t find any at support.apple.com/downloads)? Or do I have to always copy the Logic Pro X.app from one of my Macbook Pros onto a USB stick to overwrite the Logic version on my studio iMac?
    Thanks, Josh

My best guess...and it's only a guess but it is based on other Pro Apps and how Apple have handled them along with what seems to be Apple's roadmap for OS X in the next few years.. is as follows.....
Logic Pro 9 was sold as both a physical item (Logic Studio 2.0) and a download from the Mac App Store. Because some users could buy it as a physical item at one point in  time, Apple continued to provide updates that could be downloaded as individual files (outside of the online Update system) and then could be physically transported to the Mac that has L9 installed.
Now LPX is only available as a download item from the Mac App Store, and the only way one can (officially) download/install LPX on a mac.. is to use the internet...the only way updates can be done is online too, via the Mac App Store online update system. Add to this the fact that Mavericks does all updates automatically without the need for User intervention and I can see why Apple have taken this path.
So, my guess is there will be no offline update files...(Unless Apple have a major change of direction with Mavericks.....) and it seems your "USB stick" method may be the one of the few practicals way of updating LPX on a Mac..when you have no internet at that location.
My method to get around the problem that one of my studios are in a location where the internet is poor... is to install OS X and Logic onto a fast external HD and boot from that. I then take that HD to another location which has a good internet connection, connect it to a Mac and boot it up and update it there. On two occasions I have even taken it to my nearest Apple store and they have happily allowed me to use their bandwidth and a Mac to achieve this. The advantage of this method is that both the OS X and Logic can be updated at the same times along with any other related content or 3rd party plugins/content.. which may or may not be updated in the future.

  • Logic Studio on new Macbook pro retina

    Hi,
after 6 years my macbook "died" ... :-( I am thinking about buying a new macbook pro retina..
My Problem is, how can i install the  logic studio with the dvds if there is no dvd device?
thanks for you advise and ideas!
    Philipp

The same way you have to install all software that comes on CD/DVD:
either you buy an external DVD USB drive
or you share the drive from a second Mac (via the Sharing system preferences)

  • Logic Studio: Software Update not working for Compressor and can't download

I'm a Logic Studio customer. The 3.0.2 update isn't working from Software Update. I've tried to download the installation file separately, but it looks like you need a Final Cut Studio SN to download. Compressor is part of Logic Studio, so we need to be able to update also - without relying on Software Update. Thanks guys

    Hello there Brad,
I was thinking it might be a good idea to delete and re install the iMovie and iPhoto applications from the Mac App store.
First find the apps in your Applications folder in finder, and move them to the trash and restart your computer.
Then use this article to re download them from the Mac App Store.
Mac App Store: Finding your purchased apps
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4483
Apps purchased via the Mac App Store
When purchased via the Mac App Store, apps are installed in the Applications folder. Icons for purchased apps are automatically placed in the current user's Dock. There is also a purchases tab in the Mac App Store where you can see all of your Mac App Store downloads.

  • How can A new Logic Studio (9.1.1) not be compatible with Lion?!

***! first Lion makes my 11 Rack's software inopperable, and now I finally got Logic Studio and it says I can't use Logic Pro because it's version 9.1.1. I was already having trouble, and after an our with apple phone support and a few more installing the software it says the install was a success, but then underneath it reads an error occurred and it failed. I never realized how confusing (and confused) Apple can be. Why have an app on a DAW called Compressor, yet having nothing to do with actual audio compressors, What the **** is it ?!! Is it a Logic Studio or a Logic Pro?!! The box only says Studio, what version depends on how knowledgible the salesperson is.There's no way to tell otherwise except by the price. So why then does the app say Logic Pro, which by the way, is the only app (apparently) outdated. All the other apps of the Logic Studio suite bundle have no problems being openend. But as if this isn't confusing enough, check this out:
I barely had my brand spankin' new MacBook Pro (15') three months, and it never let me down, even when some supposed tech suggests I take it in for a look because of their personal lack of resourcefulness. In other words, if they can't figure it out then it must be my computer. This has happened to me atleast five times already on seperate occasions, and how many of those times was it actually necessary - count 'em - ZERO! It took me a few seconds to figure it out myself after hanging up, and this is my first computer. But I'm getting off course, let me reiterate:
It says on page 11 of the installation manual "Important:Soundtrack Pro 3 and Compressor 3.5...will be deselected if Logic Studio installer detects Final Cut Studio 2 or earlier on your system" (due to incompatibility issues - what else is new). So my first mistake was calling Apple support, and incidentally, even though I payed extra for a three year support contract at the time of my purchasing my Mac, Logic Studio is only covered for 90 days (I wonder why). I called because of all the items checked for installation, Compressor was grayed out. Turns out that the apps in question don't get along with the iLife '11 Suite, WHAT!!! Avid (Pro Tools, Eleven Rack, etc.) and Apple is one thing. They're competitors, so I wouldn't be surprised the sudden incompatibiliy issues with Lion and 11 Rack was no accident (just like M-Audio's Axiom Pro, also owned by Avid, working best with Pro tools is niether a coincidence) but now I feel I'm giving their resourcefulness too much credit, because now I stand dumbfounded at how a flag-ship Apple product has discrepencies with another flag ship Apple product...wait, what? Did they forget when comprising the new Lion OS, that they were also a leader in Audio Software?
Anyway, I was sent an email with these directions: 1. From the Finder, choose Utilities from the Go menu.
                                                                                    2. Open the Terminal application from the Utilities folder.
                                                                                     3. Enter the following case-sensative command exactly as it appears:
                                                                                        sudo pkgutil --forget con.apple.pkg.AppleintermediateCodec
                                                                                    4. Enter an administrative password when prompted.
                                                                                    5. Install compressor from the Logic Studio installer.
                                                                                     6. From the Apple menu choose Software Update.
                                                                                     7. Install any available updates.
Anyway we never made it past #4. The prompt by the way (omitted in the diections) is a solid standing rectangle at the end, as opposed to an empty one, but we're just supposed to magically know this is the prompt. I start typing (after being told to press return - also omitted above) and no letters transpire. The tech then suggests we try it again, even though I followed his suggestion of copy & pasting. We did, same thing, so he then suggests he needs to view my computer, as if I was the one malfunctioning. But that was another issue altogether (which I care not to repeat), and eventually he just gave up and suggested I speak to a "higher-up" specialist, but not before he admitted there was something he overlooked and that he's sorry, this after wasting over an hour of my time, and also after - now get this - he suggested I take my machine in since it would be easier, yea, easier for him, how about the time & effort already wasted.
This new tech says, that the password is not supposed to show when I type it in, What?! Now this is the real kicker, this time it did appear. So really all they were doing was creating even more unexplainable anomolies. We presumed it did the trick, even though "Compressor" was still grayed out in the list. He told me why, which I didn't care to understand, and as long as it says install next to it that I'll be ok. I then told him, this is exactly how it looked before I even made the call in the first place (hence why I said that was my first mistake), but he was right since Compressor well and present, however *** is up with Logic Pro! Please, anybody, save me from having to call Apple Support again (not that it helps) these are geeks not musicians.

Yea, I know, I figured it out shortly after. I feel kinda silly now but it just seemed too easy after all the fuss with Apple support. Like I said, if they don't really know what their talking about they go off in all sorts of crazy directions. I wasn't even having Compressor issues like so many others do (told ya my computer never lets me down). Not sure what the lesson here was, Apple Care is usually pretty helpful (or atleast moreso than other tech supports), but next time I'm having trouble with anything remotely music related they will be the last ones I call.
By the way, thanks for the reply anyway and reading my lenghty complaining. I really needed to blow off some steam after that needless ruckus.

  • I have an upgrade version of logic studio (9.1.1.) which I want to run on an imac with 10.7.4 osx Lion and after a seemingly successful install it's telling me that this version of logic studio isn't supported by my osx...Can someone help me with this?

I also want to add that I've found the updates to logic pro 9.1.2 thru 9.1.7. and when I download them they tell me they are either not needed or don't seem to actually update anything.  Someone was saying that Logic Studio isn't a fan of Lion and I should install Snow Leopard, complete Logic updates and then re-install Lion.  PLEASE HELP!!!

    Hi there,
You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.
Thanks, let me know if the update helps,
    Nathan

  • How can I upgrade the solo version of Logic Pro 9 to Logic Studio?

I just would like to know how and where to upgrade logic pro to logic studio

First of all, Erik is correct.. Logic Studio has been discontinued.. However, there are a few copies left around I am sure... to purchase if you really wanted to...
    But.....
Unless you really want Waveburner and Soundtrack Pro 3..(Neither of which have been updated for at least a couple of years now..)  there is little point in buying Logic Studio 2... as it will cost you $499... and you can buy Compressor and Mainstage (the other two parts of Logic Studio) for much less than that on the App Store.... and the additional content (that actually took up most of the DVDs in the boxed set) can be downloaded for free within Logic Pro itself.
I think a newer version is soon to be announce.
Not of Logic Studio there won't be.. I believe boxed sets of Logic are long dead and gone... and won't be seen again... It's all App Store products from now on...
There may well be a newer version of Logic Pro on the way.. but no one knows when.... until Apple announce it.

  • Problem updating Logic Studio

    Hey there all,
I have been having a problem updating Logic Studio 9. My purchased version is 9.0 (full, not upgrade) and I tried to update to 9.1 a while ago. When I did it, I got this very strange error message that said there was a system error of some sort. This of course sent me in to a panic, however my system itself seems to be stable, so I can only assume this is a problem with the updated software.
Eventually, I deleted the updated software (which left 9.0 on my system), and since then (this was a WHILE ago), I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out what to do to be able to update the software. I can't tell you how many times I have uninstalled, reinstalled, and re-uninstalled the original disks. I just can't get the software updater to recognize that I uninstalled 9.1 so that I can re-download the software update. And for god know what reason, I am not able to connect to the downloads server to get the upgrade.
Can anyone tell me where/how/if I can fix this?? Logic 9.0 keeps crapping out on me. I'd like to have access to my songs, etc.

    hi, Colpanique.
A couple of ideas. Is your OS up to date? Are you running SL? It's better for LP9 than Leopard. Is LP9 registered?
Software updates sometimes have a proapp u/date. This is for Logic/final cut etc. If they aren't on your system, the later LP u/date might not install.
Another reason why LP 9 caps out is ram. I have LP8, and I know 9 requires more ram. 1G is at the low end, and might be insufficient for the OS and LP9. Run out of ram and the app will crash. This true if you load samples or drums etc,
If LP 9 isn't registered, the apple server won't let you get 9.1. I tried, as I wanted to go from 8 to 9 and bypass the bugs in LP 9.0. 9.1 is more stable.
Anyway, hope thsi is of some help. Good Luck. Scorpii Pirates.
