I can't update to the latest version with the orange Firefox button.

On public computers, I've used a version of Firefox that features an orange Firefox button that replaces the menu bar. On my home computer, even though I've used the "About Firefox" link to update the software, I still do not have the orange Firefox button. I am currently on version 18.0.1 on my home computer.
How else can I go about getting the orange Firefox button to replace the menu bar? Thanks.

It's easier than you imagine:
View > Toolbars > ''uncheck'' Menu Bar
Occasionally you might want to access the classic menu bar after that. Tap the Alt key to reveal it.

  • I really, really, really need the orange firefox button back.

I cannot use Firefox anymore if the orange Firefox button is not brought back. The annoyance and anger caused from this is seriously at the point that it causes me physical pain. I would like to make some observations regarding this change.
    1. Only you (Firefox, employees and owners) care about the amount of work put into this update. Work means nothing if the result isn't quality.
    2. You claim to make Firefox more customizable with this update, but you don't allow users on of Firefox's most useful and classy features after this update.
    3. The new menu button does not contain the functionality of the old menu button as the old menu button gave users the functionality of the full menu bar and the new menu button doesn't. Functionality used to be more important to Firefox than design.
    4. I get it that you just want to remove the options that people don't use much, but that is what tool bars and icons are for. When someone clicks on a menu, that needs to be the "end all" when it comes to the functionality for a program. When a user has to click around multiple places for more functionality, there is a poor navigation system. Steve Krug wrote this nice book called "Don't Make Me Think" that does a good job explaining how websites should set up their navigation system so that it aids user functionality.
    4. You (the admin/tech reading answering this question) are probably starting to role your eyes and think of how I'm just another annoying user who can't handle change and needs stop complaining and just accept that Firefox is doing something good for me.
    5. There is a 99.9% chance that my complaint will get a "I'm sorry you feel this way," response and nothing will get done about it.
    6. I didn't think Mozilla was the type of company that worked that way.
Please prove me wrong and help fix this problem. If I want a browser with rounded tabs at the top and a mobile phone styled menu button in the top right I can use Chrome. At least their right side menu button is functional. Also, I don't know where you guys get that heat map stuff, but throughout the history of computers, everyone learns from day one that the top right is where you look to close things, the top left is where you go to find your menu.
P.S. I would hope that anyone reading this complaint would know better than to ask what I mean by less functional, but just in case, I will explain. When I click file on the old school menu system that is still permitted, I can choose New Tab, New Window, and New Private Window. In the three line mobile style menu, I cannot choose new tab. Under the File menu, I can choose Open File, Save Page, or Email Link. Under the new menu, I can only choose Save Page. This is the definition of removing the functionality of a menu button.

''''' "An example of a few options that I cannot add to the new menu are Page Setup, Print Preview, and Work Offline." '''''
Are you aware that the original (pre-Firefox 4.0 version) Menu Bar still is just one click away? Simply hit the '''Alt''' key or the '''F10''' key to temporarily show the ''real old'' Menu Bar, which has '''all''' the menu items available, including many that weren't in the orange Firefox button - ''which IMO was a piece of garbage, with the limited number of menu items that it contained, and served to confuse users who were used to older versions of Firefox when they wanted a menu item that wasn't there.''
IMO, that 3-bar menu button and panel wasn't made as direct replacement for the former orange Firefox button menu - its' value is to replace the now missing Add-on bar, otherwise ''IMO'' Mozilla wouldn't have made those buttons so large, and taking up so much space. <br />
Then again, this new UI isn't made for desktop PC's, it was made for Mobile devices and then adapted to function in the desktop environment. Desktop users "got the short end of the stick".

  • I upgraded from 3.6 and could not get the orange Firefox button but only a grey one with misaligned commands. When I hit View/Menu Bar even this button has vanished and the screen resembles 3.6

I use Win7 on a desktop PC. I upgraded Firefox 3.6 to 4.0. Where there should have been the orange firefox button was a grey button 'Firefox' with a small arrow. on clicking this the commands were there, but not properly aligned. There was also no minimise/maximise/exit buttons on the top right of the screen. I checked 'Help' and found no info. I then turned on View/Menu Bar. The minimise/maximise/exit buttons appeared; the grey button vanished and the screen now resembles FF 3.6. However About tells me that I am using 4.0.
BTW, I also tried various Beta versions in 2010 and abadnoned them because the same problem happened.

The orange Firefox menu button will only appear if the menu bar is hidden.<br />
    Are you using a custom theme (Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes) ?
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:

  • How do I get the orange firefox button to show up on the top left corner of my page?

So, I've installed, and reinstalled the new Firefox 4. It seems like only half the features have shown up. For example, I don't have the orange firefox button in the top left corner. I also don't have the button for bookmarks. On every other machine that I've installed firefox 4 on has not had issues like this. I don't know why I'm having issues on my laptop. If there's a way to fix it, I would appreciate it. I don't mind how it is right now, but I do like the cleaner look and the orange firefox button, instead of the buttons that show up now that are labeled: "File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, etc."

    * You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden (View > Toolbars > Customize or right-click a toolbar).
    * If you need to access the hidden Menu bar then press F10 or hold down the Alt key to make the Menu Bar appear temporarily.

  • Can't update OS to latest version - get error message

I was getting some advice/suggestions for this problem (see below) from the imac section of Communities, and after several attempts did not work, a contributor suggested posting to the iphone forum. ( I don't know how to cross link)
    Problem:
With my 2 yr old macbook, I cannot update my recently purchased iphone 4 when an update is available. I get message: "...device isn't eligble for requested rebuild." I have worked with Apple store Genius bar staff 4 times with no sucess.  Latest attempt was to erase HD, reinstall OS X, and only reinstall itunesin orde to test the update feature.  In this scenario, with only itunes on the macbook, the update is successful.  However, after  I drag and dropped many, but not all, of my programs and files from the saved data on external HD back onto the macbook, and tried an update on a different iphone 4 (in our family plan), same problem.  So I guess somewhere in what I transferred back onto  the macbook is a bad file.  I suppose I could go through the tedious process of transferring one program/file at a time onto the macbook, then trying the update again, but I can't do an update after each transfer because there is no new update to download, as they come out only every so often.
Is there a program that can scan the external HD to find bad/corrupted files?  I have Spring cleaning and Drive Genius, neither of which seem to have the features to do such a scan (they do have disk scan, which I have run, along with Apple's Tech Tool, and all such scan operations have show no problems)
(to complicate this, this apparent bad file on this macbook likely came from my white intel based iMac.  I first discovered this "updating of the iphone 4 problem" on the imac.  When we bought the macbook, we bought one to one and had the Apple store do a complete transfer from the imac to the macbook in its first time set up.  I purchased the iphone 4 in Sep 2010 and first tried an update in Nov 2010, which failed.  I have been back to the Apple Genius bar 5 times since then with this problem.  During one of those visits, Genius suggested trying to do just the update of my iphone 4 from the macbook, and that is when we discovered the macbook had the same problem.  So this bad file likely was transferred to the macbook in that initial set up transfer.  Furthermore, this macbook is still under AppleCare, yet that does not seem to mean anything to the Genius Bar.  Tomorrow I will call applecare about this, but in the meantime, if anyone out there has a clue, I'm much obliged.
If this works, here is screen shot of the error message:
    file:///Users/imac/Desktop/Screen%20shot%202011-07-18%20at%203.21.36%20PM.png
One suggestion was to do a safe boot, then try. Same problem
Another was to provide the contributor a cut and paste of teh Console activity lines of the time this happened.  I did that and found an old version of Mozy still trying to do something.  I fixed that , shut down, started, tried again, same problem.
    Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks

Sorry to hear of your woes too. So, do you even get to the point where an error message box appears that  states ... isn't eligible for requested rebuild...", or some other wording,  (with a "more info" tab that takes you to an apple.com  help screen)

  • HT4623 im using ipad my current ios is 5.1.1. can i update it on latest version?

    Hope to hear on you

It sounds like you have an original (first generation) iPad.
If that's true, then iOS 5.1.1 is as high as you can go.

  • I installed 5.0.1 version and I can't find the Firefox orange button. Previously I added in this button many web sites. I hope I didn't lose them. How may I get this orange Firefox button back?

I installed the new (5.0.1) Firefox version to my laptop with Windows Vista and I can't find any trace of the Orange Firefox Button in the left upper corner. I need this button for normal exploitation of Firefox. And, formerly, I added plenty of websites to former version of Firefox (to orange button of this former version). Tell me please: 1. How may I have this orange button in my Firefox? 2. How to get back those websites written in former Orange Firefox Button?

This problem has been done before. Break this down into something simpler. You don't need an applet. Just do it on the command line. You don't need a database. Just create a flat file if you need some persistent data. Do the simple thing first, then build out from there.
Click on the special tokens link up above and learn how to use [ code][ code] tags.
Your code is a big, unreadable mess. You've got pare this down into something sensible. If you can't understand it, it's unreasonable to expect someone on this forum to wade through all of that. - MOD

  • How can I get to the real FireFox homepage. I dont google.

I always get the google search page on startup. I have tried "resetting to default" but I am still stuck with google. If I start with the add-on's page I don't get google but I have yet to see the "awesome bar".

'''about:home''' ''is'' the default Homepage in Firefox 4. This - http://www.google.com/firefox - was the Homepage in earlier versions of Firefox.
The "Awesome Bar" has been part of Firefox since Firefox 3, it's not new for Firefox 4. What you see different than the mock-ups is that on WinXP and W2K the Menu bar is the default view, rather than the orange Firefox button. Right-click the Menu bar and click on Menu Bar to de-select it to have the Firefox button show.

  • Where is the orange Firefox box

I don't have the orange Firefox button in the upper left corner.
I just downloaded Firefox and the button was not there.

If the tabs are at the top (default position), you can move them underneath the location bar where you type in a web address by right clicking either the Home button, or the Tab bar (tab bar is where the tabs appear) and then click "Tabs on top".
    Other things you can do:<br><br>
    * To rearrange the layout, repeat the same steps again and choose "Customize". A panel will open and while that remains onscreen, you can move elements like toolbars, buttons etc around and place them anywhere you wish. You can also drag anything you don't like into that panel and add anything you want by dragging it out of there.<br><br>
    * To replace the status bar at the foot of the page, install this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/<br><br>

  • Why doesn't my Firefox 4.0 Beta 3 Look like the beta 1 in the video? Like, where is the yellow firefox button?

Ok, so i've been looking froward to the new beta, and i always wanted the yellow Firefox button and the smart download section, instead of the old pop-up one witch is annoying by the way.
I'm currently using the Firefox 4.0 Beta 3.
And the only thing that is changed is that the taps on the top..
but it's not see through or anything like in the preview videos.
    Please help!

Some of the new things are not shown by default in XP but easily established.
Right click on a toolbar space and
    * Uncheck the Menu Bar; this will hide the Menu Bar and show the orange Firefox Button in the top left hand corner. You can toggle from one to the other.
    * Check Tabs on Top. This will move the Tab Bar above the Navigation Bar - remember you are not showing the Menu Bar. I must admit that I prefer tabs in their traditional place where they are nearer the web page action.
For moved and combined buttons this will help -

I hope this is what you are after.

How can I update to the latest ios version on my ipod touch?

Check to see what model of iPod you have:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353
If you have a second-generation iPod, the last version of iOS it can run is iOS 4.2.1. If you have a 3rd or 4th generation iPod touch, see:

  • I can't update to the latest version of iTunes - complains that iTunes10.7.dmg is corrupt?

I can't update to the latest version of iTunes - complains that iTunes10.7.dmg is corrupt?

Surely iTunes should be upgraded automatically? It always has in the past.
Typically a computer does not automatically update itself.  This would be highly undesirable in my opinion.  What if it was it started doing it just as you were going to do a presentation?  I have never heard of iTunes automatically updating itself.
Why do I have to download it again?
You can let Software Update do this if you wish.
And why from the Apple website and not the itunes website?
What iTunes web site?  The "iTunes website" is the Apple web site.
And if I do, wont I lose all my playlists, the info from my old phone etc.
No, you shouldn't but once a month somebody complains here than an update wiped their iTunes collection.  Not sure I believe them since i don't see how it could do it, but you should always back up first.
I have just bought an iphone 5, delivered today, which wont sync with 10.6.3.
Correct. An iPhone 5 requires iTunes 10.7
When I try to upgrade via iTunes, it tells me that I have the latest version.
Maybe it is the latest version your computer can run with the operrating system version you are using.
At this point I am just going to say it is polite to leave this topic to answer the questions of the original poster (OP).  You are facing a pretty different set of issues and you should start your own topic where we can focus on your issues and not get it all muddled up with the OP's.

  • My os is osx version 10.4.11 can I update to the latest os without having the os between?

My os is osx version 10.4.11 can I update to the latest os without having any of the osystems that are in between these two?

I would suggest Snow Leopard from there. Last I heard, telesales were selling it at $20 for the single user.
With that, you can run mostly everything that runs in Tiger, providing you specify Rosetta to be installed (custom installs).
You will almost certainly have problems with printer and scanner drivers unless they're very new models.
Also, some software may need updates (Adobe in particular) not all of which are free.
Normally, you can install 10.6.3 directly over the Tiger installation without upsetting your user data, applications or preferences, but you should always back up to an external drive, preferably as a bootable clone (you can use the Restore function in Disk Utility or a number of third-party apps for this).
I've done 8 installs from Tiger to SL; 6 of them went without any problems, but 2 of them wouldn't install until I erased the HDD and did a clean installation. Should that be necessary, you migrate your data back from the external during the Setup process.
For Lion, your specification is minimal and you can't make use of more than another GB of RAM (your maximum is 3GB). It would run, but very slowly.
Also, Lion doesn't have Rosetta and will not run older PPC applications (like Apple Works and older versions of MS Office), or indeed drivers for peripherals that were written in PPC code, so you'd be looking at more expense to replace a lot of programmes.
