I can't upgrade Firefox 4.1 to 5 in Ubuntu 10.04.2 i386

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 i386. I am using the PPA "ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable". It worked to upgrade Firefox 3 to 4.0.1, but not 4.0.1 to 5.
On the list of Update Manager appears the packs: firefox, firefox-branding, firefox-gnome-suport, language-pack-en, language-pack-en-base, language-pack-pt, language-pack-pt-base, ubufox.
But the pack "firefox" can't be marked to upgrade.
Only is possible a parcial upgrade.

Have you asked on the Ubuntu forums? as Mozilla does not provide those updates and somebody may know what is happening better there.

  • Can't upgrade Firefox--don't have "sufficient privileges"

    Hi all,
I'm trying to upgrade Firefox on my PowerBook G4 running 10.4.7 from 1.0.6 to 1.5.4... I download the .dmg, open it up, drag the Firefox icon to my Applications folder.
I get a pop up asking me if I want to replace the existing file. I say yes, replace.
Then I get the following message:
"The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items."
This is particularly bizarre since I have permission to administer my computer.
I've already tried "Repair Permissions"--no change.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going wrong?

Did you have Firefox running at the time you tried to replace it? That could easily prevent you from updating, as it may not permit you to overwrite or replace files that are in use. If that was the case, quit Firefox, then try replacing it with the new version.
Or, try renaming Firefox to Firefox 1.5.4 and putting it in your Applications folder. Then on your next reboot, you can move the old one to the Trash, drag it's icon off the Dock, and drag the icon for the new version to the Dock.

  • Can't upgrade Firefox because it wants me to close Firefox but Firefox is not open.

I tried several times to upgrade Firefox. The files can be downloaded and saved to the hard drive, but when I launch the upgrade I'm told that I have to close Firefox even though I have already closed it.
    == This happened ==
    Just once or twice
    == after that I didn't try again

Did you look at the Task Manager to make sure FF is not running there? Sometimes even though you have closed FF, it might still be running its process -- alt + ctrl + delete

  • Can't upgrade firefox. 'uw computer moet opnieuw worden opgestart om een vorige upgrade van Firefox te voltooien. Wilt u nu herstarten.' is the only message i get. Tried to reinstall, tried to remove, nothing works.

You can also try to run Firefox once as Administrator.
You may have security software with virtualization features that is protecting files.
If files already have been downloaded then remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.
You can also delete active-update.xml and possibly updates.xml (stores the update history).

  • I can't upgrade firefox. I have tried trashing old version. Get message that it can't be trashed because a copy is open. Can't find open copy to close it.

I don't know what else to say

Are you running Time Machine? If so, good!. However, you can solve this problem by temporarily turning off Time Machine. After finalizing or Sharing the movie, be sure to turn Time Machine back on.

  • I can not upgrade FireFox because it says I do not have access or something like that?..but I do, its my home computer.

Was trying to install the latest version of Firefox but it wont allow me to. It is saying that I dont have access or privelges? but I should since I am the owner and user of this laptop.

If you get an error message that you do not have sufficient permissions or have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

  • How can I upgrade my Firefox 3.5 to 4 in Ubuntu 10.4

I'm trying to upgrade firefox to the newest version in Ubuntu 10.4 and realised that the version that came with the package is 3.5 and not 3.6. So how can I upgrade to Firefox 4?

This is the official way to update firefox using the ppa:

You can upgrade to 10.4.11, but have to find the original retail 10.4 installer discs, though the crashes may indicate something else is wrong which could only get worse with upgrading.  Do you have the original installer discs?

  • Help, can't access Hotmail on Safari, can't upgrade it either

Hotmail isn't working in Safari, I can't upgrade Firefox either.

Help - I transferred my entire 23,000 photo library from iPhoto 06 on a G4/Tiger to a 2009 Mac Pro running the current version of iPhoto. I used firewire with the G4 in target disk mode and manually transferred the files over. Seem to have transferred most of the photos well (though I need to investigate a number of photos in a new "Recovered" folder).
How did you do this? the porper way is to drag the iPhoto library as a single entity from the G4 to the MBP then launch iPhoto on the MBP
Now, on launching iPhoto 06 on the G4 I am told I somehow made changes to the photo library using the newer version of iPhoto.
Did you? if you dragged the library to the pictures folder of the new computer and launched iPhoto then you did not change your original library
Am I screwed (b/c the latest version of iPhoto requires Leopard, which won't run on my ancient G4)? How can I recover the ability to use iPhoto 2006 on the G4?
That depends on what happened - nothing you described would have modified your original library - is there more to tell?
You can try rebuilding the iPhoto 6 library using iPhoto library manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - it will create a totally new library so if it does not work you lose nothing

  • VMWare Remote Console Plug-in for Firefox 4.0.1 (host OS Ubuntu 11.04 amd64 desktop)

I installed host "Ubuntu 11.04 amd64 desktop" successfully. Then installed VMWare Server 2.0.2 successfully.
I have a message "VMWare Remote console Plug-in is not compatilble with Firefox 4.0.1" when running Firefox.
    1) How  can I get "VMWare Remote console Plug-in"  fully compatilble with Firefox 4.0.1?
    2) How  can I replace Firefox 4.0.1 (build in Ubuntu 11.04) with Firefox 3.6?
Have any ideas for fix this problem?

Just tried to download firefox 3.6 from mozilla and I have found that it is no longer available, only version 13, even the links for version 3.6 are broken. I am unable to do anything with my virtual server. This is not a very good demonstration of your software.

  • I upgraded Firefox, and now there is a blue band on my screen above the window, and I'm not getting the full use of the screen in viewing web pages. How can I get the window to expand to fill the screen as it did before?

There is a horizontal band or gap above the Firefox window at the top of the screen, where you can see the Windows desktop behind the Firefox window. On the left side of this band are the window tabs, and the menu bar, and another bar with the names of the open windows. I would like to have the Firefox window expand to fill the entire screen, like it did before the upgrade. Thanks.

Do you mean running Firefox in full screen mode?
If you are in full screen mode then you can hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.<br />
You can click the Maximize button at the top right to leave full screen mode or right click empty space on a toolbar and use "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press F11.
You can also run Firefox in a maximized window to have easier access to the Menu bar and Navigation Toolbar.

  • Paypal will not display pictures (text only). Can not buy things on the internet. Can not upgrade flash in firefox.

3 problems: 1) I can't buy anything online. Firefox has a popup that states that all payment sites (Amazon, paypal, etc.) are forbidden and tries to protected me from them and blocks me (will not let me bypass the block). 2) Once I figure a work around the block Paypay shows as text only (shows all content on internet explorer) 3) try to upgrade adobe flashplayer as suggested in a forum and adobe flash can not upgrade when firefox is open. Been on firefox for several years now why the sudden ultimate security?

Quite honestly, I think you need to go back to Flash 10.3.183.90, a version that was kept alive specifically for WinXP users. The Flash 11 and later versions have a separate plugin container that isn't available for anything below Win Vista with feature you can't even use. I see no advantage to anything newer and on the down side the newer versions are a lot more likely to crash frequently.
First, grab the Adobe uninstaller from here:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html
Then download Flash 10.3.183.90 from here - about halfway down the page:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html
    (Released 6/11/2013) Flash Player 10.3.183.90 (61.1 MB)
IMO, the best version of Flash for WinXP. Adobe kept up with security updates for 10.3 for WinXP users long after Flash 11.0 came out in 2011 for Vista and newer versions of Windows.
Run the uninstaller, then reboot your operating system.
Then you can run the Flash installer, with Firefox closed, of course.
''Note, if you still use IE, you'll need to reinstall the ActiveX version of Flash for IE. That uninstaller removes all versions of Flash that might be installed,''
