I can't upgrade iPhoto and Garageband

We are using two different macbooks with the same account at the same time. I use OS X Lion but my sister uses OS X 10.6.8 I am having trouble with iPhoto and Garageband. I can't upgrade them. I type our family account but it says that I have to buy them. Why should I buy and pay some money for it? They have already been in my computer when I bought it. I will be grateful if you help me with this problem.
Thank You

I upgraded my MacBook Pro with Lion (but with iphoto 9.2.1) to Maverick and now I can't open iphoto and I can't update either - can anyone help please?

Download the iPhoto upgrade from the App Store. It should be free.
iWork and iLife for Mac come free with every new Mac purchase. Existing users running Mavericks can update their apps for free from the Mac App Store℠. iWork and iLife for iOS are available for free from the App Store℠ for any new device running iOS 7, and are also available as free updates for existing users. GarageBand for Mac and iOS are free for all OS X Mavericks and iOS 7 users. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available for a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 for each platform.

  • HT4710 I would like to upgrade iMovie, iPhoto, and Garageband preinstalled on my mac.

    Hi all,
I got my Macbook pro for a few months now. It just happened that my Mac came in with all the softwares preinstalled on it. Everything was great until I received the notification that upgrades for iMovie, iPhoto, and GarageBand were available. In order to install these upgrades, I have to log in with the id of whoever purchased the softwares (which is impossible). Now, when I went straight to the apple website and tried to download these upgrades directly, the mac told me that these upgrades cannot be installed if it's not from the app store. I changed in installation preference from System preferences so that softwares from other places other than the appstore can be installed on the Mac but that didn't work either. Now that I got Mountain Lion on my Mac, I think it is crucial that I installed these upgrades. If anyone knows how to bypass these crazy prerequisites, please let me know.
    Thank you so much.

Hello, La Luz de La Luna,
To upgrade your preinstalled iLife applications you have to accept them as purchased with your AppleID.
Launch the App Store and sign into your account. Then go to the "Purchased" tab. Here the iLife applications should be waiting for you to be accepted. Click the "Accept" button. This will register them to your current account. Now you should be ablet to upgrade them using the App Store.
    See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Double-click the App Store icon in the dock.
Enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Purchases.
If you haven't previously accepted your bundled iLife applications within the Mac App Store, you should see your iLife applications appear in the Accept portion of the screen. Click Accept.
You may be asked for your Apple ID and password once again. Your iLife applications now move to the Purchased section. These applications are part of the software that came with your Lion based computer. Your account will not be charged for them. Click Install to complete installation of your applications.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. • When installing iLife, can I only upgrade iPHoto and not iMovie or iDVD?

When I install iLife, Is it possible to only upgrade iPhoto and not iMovie and iDVD? I've heard the new versions of iMovie and iDVD are not as robust. If I do this, does iPhoto '08 still integrate with the last version of iDVD?

If you do a custom install you can select what gets installed
I believe that You also can move the old versions so the new versions get installed and you still have the old versions - I understand that Old Toad has numerous versions of iLife programs on his system - search the iPhoto forum for his posts to see what he has to say about that
And you can download iMovie 6 from the Apple download site - a free install for iLife '08 owners
So you can have the old and the new

The latest version of iPhoto which can operation with OS X 10.4.11 is iPhoto 7 which is part of iLife 08.  You might be able to find a copy of iLIfe 08 on Amazon.com or Ebay.com.
iLife 08's full system requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 processor
iMovie ’08 requires a Mac computer with an Intel processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0 GHz or faster), or an iMac G5 (1.9 GHz or faster)
iDVD ’08 requires 733MHz or faster processor
512 MB of RAM; 1 GB recommended; high-definition video requires at least 1 GB of RAM

Mac OS X does not offer a Clean install option.    If by clean install you mean erasing the system, that is not recommended unless:
    1. You bought a used/refurbished Mac and there is software on it without any accompanying discs, and it is older than July 20, 2011 in model release:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6413
Or if it is at or newer, then erase it if it has applications installed that would not have been prebundled with it and you have no CDs for those applications.
You don't want someone else's software keys, or accounts, or to be running unlicensed software.  At and newer Macs offer a built-in internet restore for their software with a command-R boot that lets you erase the system with Disk Utility, and then install from the internet the latest operating system.
    2. You have a hardware issue and want to eliminate possible software issues as the cause when troubleshooting a problem all at once.
Issues affecting a new install have to be isolated before you attempt it.   Unless you know it is software or hardware, erasing may only mask other problems.

I was just forced to "upgrade" iphoto, and most of my slideshows are gone.  What is going on?  I'm desperate here.

    Thanks for the reply.
It wouldn't open unless I clicked "upgrade."  The other option was "cancel." The Genius at the Apple Store said I had no choice.  The new stuff looks idfferent but maybe it's just taking a while to go through all my photos.  I can't tell what is going on exactly, but I'm nervous to see the last slideshow there is 2010.
We are backed up on Carbonite, but the hoops to go through getting specific items back seems daunting to me.

  • Do you have to pay for updates to iPhoto and garageband?

I can't update my iPhoto and Garageband without buying the programs that I already have preinstalled on the Macbook Pro...is this normal?

Only through the App Store. If you're having trouble downloading from the App Store, contact support at http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/.
    Good luck,

  • Iphoto and GarageBand are missing.

    Greetings.
Untill today then i realised that my iphoto and garageband are missing. I cant find these apps in my apps folder.
I dont think it is the OS upgrade to 10.5.3 causing the problem.
Is there any way to get back the apps without reinstalling the OS X 10.5.2?
    Please advise!
    thanks and best regards.

    n_n,.
Hey did you try searching the whole computer using Spotlight in the upper right corner of screen?
Maybe some time you drug them out of the applications folder to another folder. Not easy to do but could be a reason you cannot start them. I think. Not sure this is even possible without a warning/prompt.
    Good luck.

  • Iphoto and GarageBand broken since restore from backup

My main problem now is getting iPhoto and GarageBand to work. But below is some history of my problem:
My MackBook was returned today from the fixers. I had previously created an account for the engineers and wiped all the others. When I used Backup to restore it restored my account to the current engineers account! keeping the login name and password for the engineers account... at this stage a look in the finder showed me that only my account had been restored/backed up.. and as just mentioned with the wrong login details!!!!
I have resolved to wipe and reinstall OSX and then try to restore...... NO LUCK, NO copy of backup to restore from!!!! And I could not remember my airport pw (idiot!!) so couldn't download it!
Righty ho, I have the Web, Email and itunes working now.
But iPhoto & GarageBand do not start at all. What can I do to fix?
Btw I have reinstalled iPhoto to no avail.

Apple's tech support advised me to do an 'erase and install'. Then to try to perform a restore within Backup. If that failed I was asked to call back for further assistance. I was ok though and didn't need further help.
In a step by step way how things got fixed:
I booted from my OSX install disks that came with the computer, chose the option to erase the HD and perform a fresh install.
Installed the system and the bundled apps. (I did a custom install to choose only the software I wanted)
I then ran software update and got the mac up to date. Once done I tested all the Apple apps.. Restored my .mac data... all was now working YIPPIE!!!.
After that I hunted down and installed all 3rd party apps I had been using.
I used "http://www.versiontracker.com/macintel/" ...most apps I use were bought online or freeware, and the versiontracker website is the easiest route to find them all again.
I now had to get my data back. BackUp still showed it was missing although I knew my backed up files were valid.
I checked those backed up files were safe by right clicking on one of my backup packages (created by Apple's BackUp) and chose view package contents.
I then navigated my way to the "sparse image" file which will open just as a disk image (.dmg) would. Inside that I found my data from my user folder (which BackUp had reported not there). Opened up several files of various types to check such as jpegs, movies, text files and pdfs. I was not aiming to restore any applications from this back up.
I manually copied my files from the backup and put them in their relevant folders. I only copied things like my pics, movies, documents.
Ran "Disk Utility" and repaired permissions on my HD.
I Shut the Mac down and then booted up, logged in and all was fine and dandy.

  • Not sure order: upgrade iPhoto and OS Mavericks?

So, I'm trying to figure out this order b/c I'm going in circles.  I know I need to upgrade iPhoto from iphoto 11 9.3 to 9.5 before the library will work in Mavericks.  BUT when I go to upgrade iPhoto, it says I have to have OS 9 or higher.  I'm still on OS X 10.7.5 Lion - have option to update directly to Mavericks BUT I thought then mess up the iPhoto library?
Can you please help me get from here to there?
My Time Machine is updated to the minute, so I'm backed up.  Is that sufficient or would you recommend something else?
    Thanks!

Backup - upgrade your OS to Mavericks  10.9.x and then upgrade iPhoto to version 9.5.x  (you can not upgrade iPhoto to 9.5.1 until after you upgrade the OS to Mavericks)

  • I can not open iphoto and itune anymore

anyone knows why i can not open iphoto and itune anymore/

I have rerun the applications install dvd, but it has not corrected the fault. When I try to open iphoto's I have an error message that says You can’t open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.
    Peter,
the version you installed from the DVD is probably older than the version you used last with your library, so you need to update to the last version you used.
I have tried to update to the latest iphoto 11 but it wont download. Any answers please.
Where are you trying to download from? When you upgrade a version that is installed from the DVD, you need to update from the Software Update menu entry in the Apple-menu.
Also, iPhoto has to be called simply "iPhoto", not iPhoto '11 or something similar and to be installed in the Applications folder. Otherwise it will not be recognised by the updater.

These apps cannot be accepted by your Apple ID.
These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID, and they will be available in that Apple ID's Purchases list. If you don't have access to that Apple ID and want to receive future updates, you will need to purchase the applications.
please help me to fix this problem
    Thanks
    Krishna.

You need to either delete and buy them, or get whoever holds that Apple ID to tell Apple to release them. On a Mac, deleting the applications won't affect their data, but that should be backed up anyway.
