OK so then that would indicate a hardware problem with your USB ports and nothing to do with the iPod or iTunes. It would appear your USB ports are broken or shutdown.
One thing you can try is to shut down your computer and then unplug the power cord from it to remove all power from the motherboard. Leave it unplugged for 5 minutes to allow any capacitors in there to discharge. Pluyg it back in, power back up and see if the USB ports come back.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If you're comfortable going 'under the hood', this thread originally started in November 2010 contains a minor tweak to OS X that might work for you:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2658720?threadID=2658720&tstart=0
It allows devices on iOS 4.2 or newer to print to shared wired and wireless printers as long as the Mac is on and awake.

  • HT201269 how can I upload songs from my iPod shuffle to a new laptop with iTunes?

Previous desktop crashed & replaced with a new laptop, so unable to backup my iPod shuffle to iTunes.  When I try to sync the iPod to the new iTunes library, it wants to erase the iPod completely and load the songs from the iTunes library on the new laptop.  How can I transfer songs from iPod shuffl into the new iTunes library without losing everything?

The sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The exception is itunes purchases - File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back

  • Ipod 20 gb - can't uploaded songs

I will try to reset my Ipod 20 because songs stopped. Then I uploaded all my library of songs again in to my ipod but unfortunately I couldn't because blocked on a part of songs. Infact when turn on, the ipod is empty.
What can I do to resolve this problem.
    I use windowx XP.

You say you reset the iPod but try restoring the iPod to factory settings.
Then attempt to reload the songs. Post back with any error messages you get.

  • Can't Upload Songs

I just got a new ipod and a new computer (windows vista) a little while ago, and I know that itunes has some problems with vista but it hasn't been to bad. today though, I borrowed some cds from my friend and after importing some of the into my library without a problem, I tried putting them on my ipod and most of them would not show up. it would say "syncing ipod" at the top of the itunes screen and it would have the little icon next to my ipod in the devices column, but then it would stop in a few seconds and none of the songs are there. when i tried before, all the songs had the ! next to them and wouldn't play, and none of the new songs appeared on my ipod. can someone help me out?

I dont remember the procedure but since you authorized everything on the one computer, you need to deauthorize it on that computer, move your music to your computer, and then authorize your computer
go through these and see if it helps:

  • How can I upload songs to my ipod without formatting it on a new itunes?

I had my ipod touch connected to my old computer on itunes, but the computer went down and i cant access it anymore. I connected my ipod to my new computer and new itunes but it says it needs to be formatted and erase all songs on it so it can connect to the itunes. Is there a way i can use my new itunes, but keep all my old songs on my ipod? I have too many to erase them all.

It's very easy to backup media... you simply backup the computer.
Choosing to not backup the computer is rather ignorant.  All it takes is a power surge, hard drive failure, natural disaster, computer virus, or theft and all your important media and files are gone.
Most Operating Systems have backup solutions included, it's simply up to the user to provide a place for it to backup (i.e external hard drive) there are also options to backup to a web based service.
As for the iPhone and iTunes not being user friendly, I'd seriously disagree with you on that statement.  Ultimately it's up to you, but I think after a little hassle with another mp3 player and trying to manage it via other software you'll agree as well.

  • Restored ipod, but can't upload songs

restored my ipod to factory setting. but i can't seem to get my songs onto the ipod. i dont have the installaion disk. i not to sure if i need to the disk. when connected to itunes, ipod is not linking. please help.

There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song is marked as part of a compilation or 2) the song has no album name associated with it.
If the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder.
Also if tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances but the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod

  • Can i delete songs from ipod touch once i upload them to icloud, can i delete songs from ipod touch once i upload them to icloud

once you upload songs, photos or documents fron ipod touch to icloud, can you delete them from ipod touch to free up memory from ipod touch and can you access them from icloud without downloading to ipod?

You can't upload music to iCloud unless you are an iTunes Match subscriber, and if you are the songs are uploaded or matched from the iTunes library on your computer, not your device.  Photos are only uploaded to Photo Stream temporarily (30 days), for up to 1000 photos so it's not meant to be a permanent storage option.  The uploaded photos are also generally of lower quality than the originals on your device.  Also, only photos taken on your device after turning on Photo Stream are uploaded.  Finally, when you turn Photo Stream on, uploaded photos will be streamed back to your device in a Photo Stream album (so it actually uses some of your memory rather than saving it).  As for documents, only iWork documents are uploaded.
If you really want to free up storage on your device consider more permanent cloud storage services such as DropBox (which will handle photos and all documents).

  • How can I access songs that have been uploaded to my iCloud with itunes Match on a different (work) PC?

I have logged in with Itunes Match on my work PC, but after 'gathering information about itunes' Itunes Match says the maximum songs that can be uploaded that were not purchased in itunes is 25000 and iMatch stops. All I want to do is have access and the ability to download songs that iMatch has already uploaded to iCloud from my home PC.
    Please Help

Place that first folder of photos that you synced to the iPad within the main folder of photos that you sync from and select them to sync again. You can place any number of subfolders within the main folder that you sync from and select those folders to sync. Just "tick"(select) the folders in the photos tab in iTunes.

  • TS4124 Hi, do you know how can I upload inelegible songs from itunes to Icloud. They are songs added from original CDs. Another question would be how can I transfer all the music I have in my Ipod Classic to my Itunes or ICloud as I want to back it up.

Depends on why it's ineligible.  If it's under 96 Kpbs, try right-clicking on the file and choosing Create AAC Version.  (If you don't see this option, go to iTunes>Preferences, click "Import Settings..." then choose "Import Using: AAC Encoder" and "Setting: iTunes Plus".)  Then rescan your library to see if this version will add to iTunes Match.  Or, after changing your import setting, just re-import the song to your iTunes library.
If the song is over 200 MB you would have to reduce it's size to make it eligible.

  • Can't update my iPod 30gb vision + problem uploading songs on it.

I could upload songs to my iPod in the beginning, but then I connected the iPod with iTunes on a mac and from that time I'm not able to upload any new songs on it anymore.
So I downloaded the new itunes V 7 to see if it maybe would work with it, but mij iPod needs to be updated to be able to show up in the new iTunes, but I can't get it updated and I always get this error when I open iTunes:
'The software for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod software'
Which is ******** because it worked with the older version of iTunes.
    Anyone have had this problem?
    Pard'me for my English btw.
    Thnx in advance

Have you checked out these two documents which address the issue?
    "Please Reinstall iTunes" message appears

  • How can I tag my uploaded songs with META information

    Hi,
I am able to give some META info to my podcasts I uploaded in the RSS file.
How can I give such meta Info to uploaded songs means they are distributed by iTunes store and available for downloads.
As I am going thru a record label not direct Apple iTunes client I am looking to do it thru a webservice or something similar, like the Podcast ping.
    Thanks,
