I Can't Use Mail!

I can't use my mail program that's at the botton of my screen. I can open it, but that's about it. The wait icon just comes up and I sit there. And it will just stay like that until I force quit. Does anyone know what's going on and how I can fix it? I will be very greatful for any advice given.

The information about the computer model and version of Mac OS X that appears at the bottom of your post doesn’t make sense. Please clarify which version of Mac OS X you’re using and update the Computer Model and/or Operating System fields on your My Settings's profile (and click Save).

  • Can I Use Mail

Can I use Mail with my SBC Yahoo Mail account ? and how would I go about setting that up if I could, reason why I ask is because then I can just send mail and see my mail taht way, instead of having to go to yahoo all the time, or useing Yahoo Messenger to just check my mail.

You don't need to visit 50 websites - you need to visit SBC's website - the same website where you go to access your SBC/Yahoo email account via webmail.
That website should include a Help section that provides the account setup information for creating and accessing the account with an email client such as the Mail.app and I'm certain SBC provides POP type account access only.
If you call SBC and tell them you have a Mac and are using the Mail.app, they will probably tell you that they don't support Macs/OS X or the Mail.app but all you need to get from SBC is the following:
    Incoming Mail Server address.
User Name Requirement - usually the portion of your email address in front of the @ sign only but sometimes the entire email address depending on the provider.
Account Password - you should already know.
Is Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) required for the incoming mail server? Some providers support this but not required but it is required by some providers.
    Outgoing or SMTP server address.
    Is the SMTP server authenticated?
If so, the user name requirement. This is usually the same user name requirement as for the incoming mail server.
Password - This is usually the same password used to check the incoming mail server for new messages.
Some email clients such as the Mail.app have a selection to use the same account user name and password settings as for the incoming mail server when the SMTP server is authenticated. The Mail.app has no such setting so if the SMTP server is authenticated, the settings must be entered separately for the SMTP server.

  • Can i use mail for 2 different email accounts?

  • How can i use Mail on 2 macs with the same mail address?

    Hi,
I have two Macs, connected through WLAN. From each Mac I can use Mail (sending and receiving) with the same mail address. This worked well; on each Mac I have separate files storing the mails (input, sent, trash, …).
Some days ago I had to change the provider. (Perhaps this may be the reason for my problem?) Now both mail systems are connected - in the way that if I put on Mac *1 a mail into the trash it is automatically thrown into the trash on Mac *2.
What is to be done to separate the two systems (i. e. make them independent of each other)?
    Hans

It looks like you are using a IMAP mail account, a protocol used by most email providers nowadays. Read -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Message_Access_Protocol
The main feature of IMAP is the sync of all the changes you do on your mail account. If you want to keep your mails on one Mac, have a look at this site -> http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=3908294

  • How can I use mail merge with numbers in the new pages version?

I am trying to use mail merge with the new version of pages and can not seem to be able to figure it out. PLEASE HELP!!!

Nope. Version 5 is a fashion accessory: it looks like software, but it doesn;t actually do anything. Sort of like a sports car with a lawn-mower engine. Looks snzzy. Doesn't really work. (And given how buggy it is, I should further specifiy that the lawn-mower engine comes with a blade: it chews up your old templates, produces files that cannot be sent as email attahcments [yes, really], and—this just in—doesn;t play well with the new SMB facility of Mavericks. In short, as one reviewer put it, "un unmitigated disaster."

  • Can't use Mail in Applications

I'm not sure I'm even phrasing this correctly - I am an absolute Luddite regarding computer terminology/usage.
I can use an email account by accessing it via Explorer, but when I send or receive attached Quark files they are corrupted, although Photoshop, etc come through ok.
I desperately need to use Mail in Applications, but information seems to be missing (eg, I can't add another account, there is no facility to do this). I've been told that using email via Mail will solve the problem.
I have my email account details, and my computer is a iMac G5, OSX version 10.3.9.

    Your right confusing question!
    Sounds like account set up.
Assuming you can start Mail go to pull down menu "MAIL" select "PREFERENCES" then select "ACCOUNTS" at the bottom left corner you will see a plus & minus click the plus to add account.
As for your settings try your service provider for help.

  • Can't Use "Mail" Application

I just got a MacBook so am just starting to get my head around things. I have tried to use and set up Mail but I put in my yahoo address and password - it whirrs for a bit and then says basically yahoo may require some money for this - is this correct? Is Mail therefore redundant for yahoo account holders?

If you have a free Yahoo! Mail account, you can't use any external email program to send or receive email with it unless you pay a fee ($20 US) per year. Considering the spam filtering and unlimited storage aspect of the service, that's very inexpensive by any standard.
However, certain EU countries may prohibit them charging a fee for those features, or at least if your account was activated before a certain date. Send Yahoo! support an email asking about that to see whether or not you would have to pay a fee. If you're dead set against paying for services that provide value for you, Gmail is completely free.

  • Still can't Use Mail!

I can't use my mail program that's at the botton of my screen. I can open it, but that's about it. The wait icon just comes up and I sit there. And it will just stay like that until I force quit. Does anyone know what's going on and how I can fix it? I will be very greatful for any advice given.

Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Finally, try launching Mail under the following conditions (you may need to force quit it first if it’s running) and post back with your observations:
    1. Holding the Shift key down until the main window appears.
    2. With no Internet connection.

  • TS2537 Mac OS X v10.7.3 latest version. Can't use Mail

I'm having the same problem with Mail but with the latest Lion version (OS X v.10.7.3).
Can't quit Mail, can't read messages, can't shut down.
I just moved to an Apple computer with the hope to live in the "promise land" of no more crashes.
Never happened to me on a PC a problem like that.
    Need help, please!!

Yeah, that was just a diagnostic tool to see where we might start.
    Back in the Original account...
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.

  • Can I use mail without downloading past mail?

I have just downloaded Lion, and I would like to use "mail" without past mail being downloaded into it. That is to say I would like to start from today with an empty mail box. Is this possible?

When you open the mail app, it will check the server and download new.
    This is how it works.
    Sorry.

  • I can't use mail, safari, app store or itunes since 'upgrade' to yosemite. HELP!

I updated itunes yesterday and then yosemite.
    Since then my:
-itunes wont work, it bounces, opens, then starts thinking then closes.
-Mail doesn't work, it can't connect to the server
-Safari doesn't work, can't connect to the wifi, but chrome does although seems to struggle a bit
    -App Store can't connect
I have tried uninstalling itunes via terminal as suggested in some other posts and reinstalling but that didn't help. I"ve restarted.
HELP! I basically can not do anything on my computer as I previously did. I would be happy to just get rid of both updates and go back to how my computer was 48 hours ago if possible.

I had similar problems, and found a solution that worked for me.
I was using Wifi at the time.
So I thought; maybe its not a problem with the apps, but with the Wifi.. Sure enough, as soon as i plugged my laptop into the router with a cable, everything worked a 100%.
When I switched back to wifi, it went back to the previous crappy state.
But it seems like I managed to fix this as well, while being connected to Wifi and no cable:
    -Go to System preferences
    -Network
-On the top of the window, there is a drop down menu for switching "location".
    -Select Automatic
And that did the trick for me.. My location was set to something else than "Automatic", some Netflix trickery I've done a long time before updating to Yosemite...
Hope this can help you as well:-)

  • Can i use mail sounds in entourage?

i want to use some of the sounds that mail has "pop", "blow", and the airplane sound when you send a message. is there anyway that i can use these for entourage 2004?
    thanks.

Control-Click on Mail.app icon then choose "Show package content"
    Browse to Contents/Resources
Show by list, then order by type, you will find 4 aiff files near the end.
You can copy (move to the desktop while pushing on the Alt key), and use them in Entourage, if Entourage lets you customize audio alerts.
    Why reward points ?

  • How do i disable entourage so i can start using mail

how do i disable entourage so i can start receiving emails in mail?

I have different email addresses set up in the two applications. Entourage for my business, and Mail for my personal emails. My personal emails will not go to Entourage if I have not told Entourage to receive them (i.e. set up an account for them). If you do not want Entourage to receive emails, then delete any accounts you may have set up in it. Set up your accounts in Mail, and you will then receive your emails in Mail. You can use both applications if you wish.

  • I lost connectivity from my mail aol account, and can not use mail to email, the email account is off line. What do I need to change to bring the account in line? The take accounts online function will not allow it to go on line

    Operating system is the 10.5.8

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
First, just confirming that you realize you can always access your AOL email account by going directly to www.aol.com from the Safari browser (or Firefox, Chrome, etc.) until you get the Apple Mail problem fixed.
If you cannot connect directly through a browser, it's quite possible that AOL is doing maintenance or having a temporary problem. It happens with surprising frequency to most online hosts. I usually check downrightnow.com, but AOL is not one of the services for which they collect trouble reports.
Reconnecting your Apple Mail to your AOL account:
In the Apple Mail menubar, click on the Mailbox, Get New Mail, and highlight the AOL account.
You should see the 'spinning wheel' next to the account name for a moment while your AOL mail is retrieved.
    That should successfully reconnect you.
Occasionally my ISP seems to corrupt a few packets and I'll get a message that all my external email account password are rejected, and asks me to re-enter them. Instead of re-entering passwords, I click 'cancel', and use this same procedure to re-connect.
NOTE: I'm on Snow Leopard OS X 10.6, and Mail 4.5 (1084) but I believe the process to reconnect did not change since OS X 10.5 Leopard.

  • Can I use Mail to reply Hotmail messages through Gmail?

    I have Hotmail and Gmail.
Hotmail is my main account that I use for general things on the web. I have it since 95 and I don't want to terminate it.
I have Mac Mail and Hotmail POP3 does not sync well with it. It does with Gmail.
My question is. Can I fetch emails from Hotmail with Gmail on my Mac Mail and when I reply the recipient sees it as Hotmail email instead of Gmail email? Does that make sense?
I want people to receive a Hotmail email, even though I am using Gmail to fetch it on my Mail app.
    Thanks for any feedback.

Do you have an email account provided by your ISP, that is POP perhaps? If so, then depending on the policies of your ISP, you may be able to add the Hotmail address to the email address address entries for that POP account, and with the SMTP of your ISP, send from the Hotmail address. Many ISP provided SMTP do not restrict the From address you use, so long as the account with is active (usable).
    More info, please.
