I can't use numbers in an Event title in iCal

I have to use numbers in event titles and when I enter them, they disappear. I have to go back and edit the event and put them back in.
Example: Show Name - Episode Number - Meeting
CSI:NY 801 Production Meeting (As typed)
CSI:NY Production Meeting (As interpreted by iCal)
It's very annoying to have to go back to the event every time to add the numbers back in. I am using a Macbook Pro and an iMac running Lion on both and both have the same issue.
Any ideas?

The Lion version of iCal accepts freeform event title entries containing dates and times and parses the event title, date(s), start time, and end time. For example if you enter "Breakfast with Sarah on Feb 22 from 8 AM to 9 AM", iCal turns it into an event titled "Breakfast with Sarah", places it on Feb 22 of the current year, and and assigns start time of 8 AM and an end time of 9 AM to the event. That's what is happening to you. When I tried to enter your "CSI:NY 801 Production Meeting" ecxample, iCal converted the "801" to an 8:01 AM start time for a "CSI:NY Production Meeting" event.
Take advantage of this feature to solve your problem, as follows:
Type"CSI:NY 801 Production Meeting at 9 AM to 12 Noon" to create a "CSI:NY 801 Production Meeting" event with a 9 AM start time and a Noon end time.
Or type "CSI:NY 801 Production Meeting on Sep 22 at 9 AM to Noon" to create a "CSI:NY 801 Production Meeting" event on Sep 22 of the current year, with a 9 AM start time and a Noon end time.
Or double-click where you want to place the event, but don't type anything yet. Instead, double-click on the new event to open it's Info window. Type "CSI:NY 801 Production Meeting" there and iCal won't turn the "801" into a start time.
I agree it was really annoying at first, but once I learned to use it I loved it.

Numbers is a spreadsheet program and FileMaker is a database program, so you probably can't use Numbers to open them unless you had first exported them from FileMaker in a spreadsheet-compatible format.
If you upgraded from 10.6 Snow Leopard or earlier and your old copy of FileMaker won't open anymore, it might be a PowerPC application that is not compatible with 10.7 and later. If that is the case, to work with your FileMaker files you should upgrade your copy of FileMaker to the latest version, which seems to be FileMaker 12.

Lower left corner should be a key with 123 on it...are you saying tapping that does not bring up the numeric screen?
Did you replace the screen or did Apple or an Authorized Service Provider?

Can I use Ctlref in a event structure with a mouse up event?

I have a large number of controls on a front pannel. I'm using a event structure that triggers the motion of a given motor when the corresponding control is pressed. However, I would like to avoid creating N mostly identical events, so I was planning on using a mouse down event on the front pannel, then retrieve the control reference using the Ctlref node (with gives "Reference to the control on which the event occurred" according to labview manual) and scan a array of references to find out which motor is supposed to move. However, it seems that this node does not appear (contrary to what the manual says).
I have found other ways to do what I need (I was thinking of using an array containing the coordinates of my controls and the coords node of the event structure), but I wanted to know why I can not find that node (which appears for "value change" event for instance). I'm using Labview 2013.

Bad luck for you. Mouse down on panel does not have the control refnum as it is not operating on a control. Mouse down on a control does have it and since you can configure mouse down events on several controls in the same event case, it provides also a control refnum so that you can still operate on the control in question.
This is probably also the issue Jeff might have seen. When configuring multiple events for the same frame LabVIEW will only show the event terminal that are present in all of those events. Terminals that don't exist in at least one specific event of the multiple events for that frame are not selectable anymore.

Can I used numbers 09 to make histograms?

I need to now if is possible to used Numbers 09 to work with experimental data to do histograms analysis. Tks.

A histogram is a bar chart showing the count of data values falling within each of a set of equal ranges. So what's needed is a means of restating the data in the form required by the chart.
Here the original data (a biased random generated set of 408 items) is recorded in column B of the table on the left (Table 1). The MAX, MIN and COUNT values in column D were checks to confirm the range of values generated.
The second table (highlighted as the source data for the chart) contains two formulas:
A2 (and filled down until the last value is greater than the MAX of the data values):
=10*(ROW()-1)
Where 10 is the range of data values for each bar on the histogram.
B2 (and filled down to the las row containing a value in column A):
=COUNTIFS(Table 1::$B,">"&A1,Table 1::B,"<="&A2)

As written, the formula will not include a count of zero values. To include these in the first bar, you will need to insert an = sign after the > sign in the formula above in cell B2 ONLY, after filling the formula down the column. If the = sign is added before filling the formula down, it will result in data values matching the values in column a being counted in both the range labeled with that value AND in the range above (ie greater than) that. (eg, a data value of 20 would be shown in the count for the second bar AND the count in the third bar.)

At the beginning of each days log is a line with the server name and IP
address. Subsequent events only have the date/time and event message.
How can I capture the name and IP of the sever and then use it for

First, ARGH! Why can't systems create audit data? Or if just logging
data, why can't they do something sensible like have a date in there like
everything else? *sigh*
Okay, I feel better now. I have not tried either of the following ideas,
but I want to share them so you can figure them out and hopefully post
back their feasibility. I'm hoping to have time to test this next week,
but who knows with how things have been lately... busy busy. Here are the
two ideas:
1. Collector development has the idea of a 'Session' object which is made
to span across two events. This is useful when you need to link two
original events to create one Sentinel events, such as with OES and
filesystem auditing; in that case the OES system sends three lines per
filesystem event and Sentinel must group them to create one Sentinel
event. Similarly, eDirectory object-create events are actually two events
(object create without object class, and add-value with the object class)
that become one in Sentinel (eDir auditing is just THAT lost-level...
crazy) and also LDAP events from eDir consist of the LDAP Request event
and the LDAP Response event. Session objects make this possible, but they
are meant to exist for a short period of time (I think usually one second
or so, though they have a customizable timeout as I recall) and are meant
to be created and then used when other conditions are satisfied. My hope
is hat you can abuse this functionality to store a variable between events
and then nuke the old session object when a new date comes through. More

2. Set a variable on the collector object somehow, and I mean in-memory,
not in the hard-coded plugin or something. I need to get the debugger
going to see how this could work, but the problem with your local
variables is that they're local variables, so they do not persist when the
current variable scope (the current function/method) returns to whatever
called it, so the next time something calls it then they are brand new
again. The logic needs to set these variables somewhere that will persist
(Session or collector object instance level) so that it can be retrieved
from there for each subsequent event.
Other dirty things I would not recommend, but which may work. I believe
you can get at dynamic list data in collectors. You could potentially
store the date there when it comes in and then retrieve it on subsequent
events.
Other dirty things... use the current date for everything. Pulling this
up in code should be trivial, but it implies that events come in on the
current date. That's probably a safe assumption 99.99% of the time, but
some events may come in wrong at the start of a new day, though you could
add logic to help with that too.
Ideally GW needs better logs, and more than that it needs a true auditing
interface of some kind.

Can not use Global Variable in Event Structure

I am using LabVIEW 2009.
In my LabView project I have a Boolean Global variable called EStop. I can read and write the Global variable. If I double click on the Global variable, it takes me to EStop.vi which includes a Text Button. EStop.vi is part of my Project.
In one of my VIs, I have an Event Structure. If I go to one of the Event Handlers in that Event Structure and right click and then select Add Event Case, I get a list of possible events. But that list does not include EStop or an EStop events.
I want to Add an Event Case for EStop: Value Changed.
Why can't I Add events to an Event Case that include events on Global Variables like value changed?
How do I add EStop: value changed event to my Event Structure.

Trying to connect second laptop wirelessly but can only use numbers in password field

I've connected my Mac and another PC to my Valet Plus with no trouble. The third PC, running Windows XP, can only be connected as a guest. When trying to connect to this laptop to the home network, the password will only accept numbers.
I've tried changing the PC's security settings, disabling the firewall, etc. Has anyone experienced this problem?

What is the service pack on your computer?
If it is windows XP service pack 1 then I think you will need to upgrade the OS to SP3. Because SP1 will not support WPA/WPA2 security mode.
When you install the router using Cisco connect, the wireless security on the router will be WPA/WPA2.

Can i use references to trigger events for objects?

I have about thirty front panel buttopn controls on my user interface. They are all very spread out so I cannot put them all into a cluster. I have created a reference for each one and put them into an array. Each one of the buttons when pressed I want to trigger the exact same event on an event structure, but dont want to have to create 30 duplicate event cases for each button? any ideas how I can group them so that they trigger the same case?

Mike is right, the label of the event is taken from the label of the wire, typecasting this gives you the ability to rename.

Can I use Numbers templates like template wizard in Office 98?

I own apartment houses. With Office 98 I made a rent receipt template and linked it to the database with template wizard, end result I would bring up the template, fill in date, amount, apt # ect. Then I would print the receipt and give it to the tenant. When I hit save it would save the info to the database and I would save the receipt to a file also in case I needed to print it again. When I went to OSX it came with office but I find they no longer have template wizard for the Mac version of Office X, only the windows version. I still run Office 98 in classic but it does not work so well (out of memory errors, wrong). Question, can Numbers do this for me or do I need to look elsewhere? I'm waiting to buy iwork until I find out.

You need to look elsewhere right now. Numbers cannot link to other files, databases, etc.. The data must be on one file right now.

How to override the onTouchUp in the user control which can be used to fire the event not only on this user control, but whole application

I am a new to the C# and WPF. Right now, I want to override onTouchUp event in my user control. Then I can add user control in
the references for reuse. The problem is each time I want to test this event on the application, the event only fire at area of user control, not whole screen. Anyone has solution for this?

You cannot just add a UserControl to a window and expect its OnTouchUp method to get invoked when a TouchUp event occurs outside of the user control. That is not how routed events work.
The OnTouchUp method of the UserControl will only be invoked when a TouchUp event occurs from within the UserControl.
The event will indeed bubble up to the parent elements of the UserControl and you could for example handle the event in the parent window:

Can I use Numbers as a database?

I am new to Numbers, but have some experience with Excel. If not not numbers do I need to go with something like FileMaker?

Real databases do a lot of things that cannot be done in spreadsheets. But I don't know what it is you need to do. If you simply want to keep track of some text and numbers, spreadsheets are rudimentary databases that can do that. If you want to imbed files in the database or run reports or create relationships between tables of data, spreadsheets are not the way to go. Filemaker is really nice (though not cheap) and there is a definite learning curve.

Can't use numbers in Final Cut Pro (of any kind)

I'm having a very big problem with FCP5 and I'm on a tight deadline.
Any use of numbers have stopped functioning in FCP. I've tried toggling numlock. I've reset the keyboard layout. I've trashed and deleted both preferences. I've reset the PRAM, NVRAM, ALL in Open Firmware. NOTHING is fixing the problem. I have two keyboards, both of them acting the same way, and it only does it in FCP.... no other applications. Numbers work everywhere else. Anybody have any idea what the heck is going on?!?!?!

What about 6? It always works for me.
Sounds like a case of bad juju. If you figure it out, please let us know. Sure sounds like a munged Keyboard Layout, though. If you open the Keyboard Layout tool, do any symbols appear on the number keys? What about the keypad?

I am considering updating to mountain lion, but I want to ensure that I will stil have acces to data saved in number 08. Is mountain lion back compatible with numbers 08?

Yes, it is BUT, in my case at least, software update did not automatically update me to the latest version of Numbers and I had all sorts of problems (templates that would crash the application after loading, zoom set at 10000% rather than 100% (and no way to change it), washed out images, etc...). After digging around I found the Numbers 1.0.3 update at Apple, downloaded and installed it and now all seems to be working well.

I can no longer EDIT nor VIEW events created in iCal...

I have a problem with my iCal in that I can longer edit nor view events.
I can create events, but only the first line of the details for a new event. I am not able to edit or add more info in any way after that (date, time, details, etc.)
I can delete the event though.
When I say I cannot edit nor view events, this problem occurs when double-clicking, when right/CMD-clicking, choosing the relevant command from the menu, or when typing the keyboard shortcut of either CMD-i or CMD-e.
Nothing works. Nothing happens. It's as if I have chosen to do nothing at all.
I have an iPhone which I use to sync events between my Mac and my iPhone, but without being able to properly create an event on my Mac with a chosen time and alarm, etc. iCal on my Mac is almost useless. All my events now have to be created on my iPhone - even when I am sitting right in front of my Mac.
The only use my Mac's iCal is to me now is for pop-up reminders after an event from my iPhone has been synced to my Mac.
The problem I am having with iCal is happening with all the calendars I have set up.
I have no online subscriptions, everything's local.
I have my iPhone set to auto-sync with my Mac for all data.
I am running the latest versions of iCal, the Mac OS (Leopard), the latest iPhone OS, etc.
I tried deleting all my iCal preferences from the ~username/Library/Preferences, but that didn't work.
I tried deleting all my calendars from within iCal in case there was a corrupt calendar, but that didn't work.
I trashed everything I could find that had anything to do with iCal (knowing I could restore from a recent Time-Machine backup), but still nothing worked.
Even when I had an empty iCal to work with, creating a test new-event revealed the same problems of not being able to edit the event after the first line.
I have since restored all my data from the backup I did the other day, so I am back to square one - not that anything I tried before this actually moved me off square one in any way...
Can anyone help me here? It's getting really frustrating having to type all my events out on the iPhone screen, especially when I'm sitting at my computer.

Similar problem here. My Ical refuses to edit or delete events. Viewing is possible, though sometimes the whole screen turns grey. Adding new events from mail is still possible. The task-pane completely disappeared. My local apple technic-centre messed about with disk utility for a bit and than told me to reinstall leopard. I could of course do that, but it seems to me that reinstalling Leopard just to fix iCal events is a bit invasive.
I tried also tried removing everything, installing a new copy of iCal from the leopard-cd, software updates, all to no avail.
At the moment I'm open to all suggestions that do not include a complete leopard reinstall.
