I can't use some .avi files with CS4

I have 2 computers. One with W7 64 bits and PP CS5 and a laptop with Vista 32bits, so I had to install PP CS4 provided with Adobe CS5-5 production premium.
I have a problem with CS4 (as it works with my CS5): some.avi files are not read by CS4 as some other (.avi, .mp4, .m2ts) are read! I can install the file on the timeline, but only the sound is read, no pictures!
I'm not a specialist in computer, neither in Premire Pro, and my english is very bad (Yes, I know, I'm french...) ! Any idea of what to do, please ?
Thank you so much.

I agree with Jim. Knowing what is inside those AVI files, that are faulting, will likely tell the tale.
This article goes into a lot more detail on AVI (and MOV, etc.) as a "wrapper:" http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037?tstart=0
It is what's inside, that matters. It might be as simple as just installing the proper CODEC, or it might be that the CODEC used, is a delivery-only CODEC, like DivX, Xvid, and some others.
Good luck, and please let us know a bit more.

Can I Use my elements8 files with elements 11?

When you install PSE 11 it will convert your PSE 8 catalogue to PSE 11. Your PSE 8 catalogue will still be available to use with PSE 8. Once you have a PSE 11 catalogue allyour pictures will be pointed to by that catalogue and available. I think this answers your question, if not post back.

  • Can't play some .AVI files

Hello everyone. I'm sure this problem has been posted before. I did a quick search and wasn't able to find what I needed. I'm not able to play some .AVI movies. I can't exactly figure out why I can watch some but not others. It happens with some internet .AVIs and personal .AVI videos. But as soon as I run Windows on bootcamp then I'm able to play all of those videos
I do have .AVI checked in Quicktime and I have also downloaded VLC and Perian. Anyone have the same problem as me?

I finally found the solution. The EnSharpen codec resolved the problem. All of those videos I couldn't watch with Perian, VLC, and Flip4Mac I can now watch. Here's the link to their website: http://www.techsmith.com/codecs/ensharpen/default.asp

  • Can't open flash/fla files (with CS4) - might be version issue

    Hi,
I am trying to edit a website for a friend (built with Flash and XML) and i can't seem to get into any of the .Fla files.
I don't know if it is my version of Flash (CS4) or the files and not sure how i could test it. Could also just be a CS5 file hence i can't open it.
Any help or suggestions would be great. Please help i don't know what to do, haha.
Here is an upload of one of the files i am talking about
    http://www.2shared.com/file/kb2NKm0i/book-verification.html
I wasn't sure which hosts were allowed so if i messed up please let me know.
    Thanks
    Asher

    Hi Asher,
You  cannot open a file which is saved in future version such as CS5  version  in Flash CS4 .This is as designed .
If you need to open a CS5 file in CS4 , You need to save the file as CS4 file  and then open in Flash CS4 .

  • Can I use iWeb 06 files with iWeb 11?

I have a website made on my old MacBook (running Tiger) using iWeb 06 but would like to transfer those files over to the iMac (running Snow Leopard) and edit them there using iWeb 11.
I have already copied the Domain file from the MacBook to my iDisk but now I am not sure where I should put it on the iMac - or even if the file will work in iWeb 11.
Can someone please help before I screw up my files?
    Thanks!

The default location for the Domain file is - Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb
I can't remember what happens when you try to covert an old style Domain.sites file but all you need to do is put a copy of it in the folder mentioned above and double click it to launch it in iWeb.
Make sure you have a backup in case things go wrong.

  • Can I use LogicPro .plist file with Logic Express?

I've set up a whole bunch of nice keystrokes in my Logic Pro.  I want to give them to a buddy who is only in Logic Express (which may not be possible I know).  These took me hours originally to set up ... and when I go to his Logic Express the keystroke assign window seems to be different from the time when I originally created the keystrokes (I've been transferring the .plist file through the last two versions of Logic).  So it would take me a lot of effort to reassign the keys in his Express.  Is there any way the preferences can be transfered from the Logic Pro to the Logic Express?
    All ears,
    Ben

    Hi
You can export keycommands from within the Keycommand window (under the Options Menu in the KC window).
You can then import them into Express on the other Mac.

Premier cant natively handle this format. Does anyone know a solution?

I've been barking about this for months. I still don't think they have a buy outright fix for this.

  • Can I use CS3 Design Standard with CS4 Web Standard?

I have a somewhat confusing question/s.   I have CS3 Design Standard currently.  I need Dreamweaver and Flash and I'd like to do it the most cost effective way.  I'm perfectly happy with my CS3 versions of Photoshop & Illustrator and don't really want to pay for upgrading them unless I really have to.
    1.  If I purchase CS4 Web Standard, not upgrade, will that impact my ability to use my CS3 products.  (specifically, Photoshop & Illustrator)  Can you run both CS3 & CS4 concurrently?
    2.  If I upgrade from the CS3 Design Standard to CS4 Web Standard, will it delete my CS3 Photoshop & Illustrator or will it just add the CS4 applications and leave the CS3 products (that aren't included in the upgrade) alone?
Thanks to anyone who can assist me.  I hope my questions make sense.  Any advice is appreciated!
    Rebecca
In case it's important, I'm running OSX 10.5.8 on a MBP

    1. No and Yes. (but why would you buy the full version instead of the upgrade?)
    2. The CS4 installer doesn't touch the CS3 apps.

  • Using .htc behaviour file with Business Catalyst server

    Hi,
I want to use a .htc behaviour polyfill to add a functionality to old IEs. Is Business Catalyst able to handle that file extension? If not, can I use a .htaccess file with BC to add that extension as mentioned here:
    https://github.com/Schepp/box-sizing-polyfill
    Regards, Dennis

Some good javascript based sollutions been around for a while and got better and better that achieve all this so always used those but bother less and less now.
If your on Ie7/8 then you get square! your own fault, lol.
Never saw no reason for the htc file not to work but guess its not accepted on the server setup.

Hi, I have downloaded some avi files and mov files. i am not getting audio while playing the movie. i tried to play with iTunes, QT, DivX player. but I am getting audio in mp4 files. can u help me to fix this

First, back up all data and then uninstall "DivX" according to the developer's instructions.
    Then try this:
VideoLAN - Download official VLC media player for Mac OS X

Hmm . . . comes with a Utility MPEG2 Component ML app with no explanation of what it's for?
The utility app is an "assistant PKG installer." It allows Lion and Mountain Lion users to install the older QT MPEG-2 Playback Component installer PKG file which is not allowed to run on its own under Lion or Mountain Lion since these operating systems already have a QT X only MPEG-2 component embedded in the QT embedded structure. Without this utility you would have to either copy the component from an older system to your Lion or Mountain Lion system, use Pacifist for installation, or manually open the PKG contents and transfer the component to the appropriate component folder.
As to your "discussion" regarding the playback of AVI file types, there are really only two strategies here:
    1) You can add component support so that QT can play the files natively or
    2) You can convert the file contents to compression formats that are natively compatible with the unmodified QT component configuration.
Each user should decide for his or her own self which approach best suits their needs for a particular source file. In most cases, conforming the system's codec component configuration to play the source file directly results in higher video quality since no transcoding takes place but this strategy will not work if a codec which is required is not available for the user's operating system. On the other hand, converter utilities tend to support more built-in codecs and are easier to use since the user does not have to concern him or herself with the nature of the particular source compression formats but at the risk of some potential loss in visual quality. As to what converter to use, once again this is a matter of personal choice. In the case of commercial converters like iSkysoft, the codecs are built in while MPEG Streamclip accesses the host operating system's QT codec component configuration. I personally prefer the free HandBrake app for AVI, MKV, TS, MTS, and M2TS conversions since it has an exceptionally full-featured X.264 GUI with some user options that 97% of users are likely to never use.

  • Can you write an avi file without using imaq

Just curious if anybody has tried to write an avi file without using imaq vi's? So far I have only found sketchy info on the file format and am looking for some help on the file structure etc. Any references or example avi files with explanations of format would be most helpfull. Thanks in advance -

    Absolutely.......
An AVI video file is actually structured in the same way as most Windows media files or RIFF files as they are generically known, thus the description below is applicable to for example WAV files etc.
Thus the file always begins with the four byte code RIFF and continues to use this generic four byte coding known as FOURCC, four-character code or FCC throughout.
There are then specific requirements for each different media content and the sections that must be included to define a valid file structure of the desired meadia type.
Each section or 'CHUNK' is defined by an FCC (RIFF being the first) with facility to include additional FCC's as required. The FCC is followed by a length descriptor and then the data (just for fun the odd CHUNK does not quite fit this very general overview). These chunks then align to even word boundries so padding zeros are often inserted at the end of a CHUNK to make it all nice and neat.
It is a requirement that software that does not recognise an additional custom CHUNK should ignore it, this is very easy as all you have to do is use the length descriptor to 'jump' over the CHUNK concerned.
The following is an example from the 'CLOCK.AVI' found on windows computers for a number of years...
    RIFFjB AVI LISTΠhdrlavih8
Here you can see the RIFF followed by a four byte length descriptor (4 Gigabytes), followed by various sub CHUNKS in this example the sub CHUNK is an AVI (note that it is actually 'AVI ' to conform to the FCC).
So the CHUNK structure looks a bit like this:-
    RIFF ('AVI '
    LIST ('hdrl'
    'avih'()
    LIST ('strl'
    'strh'()
    'strf'()
    'strd'()
    'strn'()
    LIST ('movi'
    {SubChunk | LIST ('rec '
    SubChunk1
    SubChunk2
    ['idx1']
For more information on all this you need to read the RIFF specification documentation on the MSDN website or on the MSDN Technet materials. Most of the stuff you will immediately locate will refer to the AVI file format as that is where most of the recent effort has been focused.

  • I can't run .avi files with OS 10.8

Why I don't see .avi files with OS 10.8? Usually I could run .avi files in my iMAC o Mac Book Pro but after I turned to OS 10.7 or 10.8 it was not possible anymore. Some older avi files use to run in Power Point presentations but not the new ones. Anytime that I try appear a sign that refer to there is no valid codec to run the clip.
    Thank you.

can anyone help? am running osx 10.9 on macbook
QT X v10.3 only plays JPEG/PCM AVI files natively. Either use QT 7 player (with system configured for appropriate codecs), use a third-party player like VLC (with its own built-in codec support), or convert the files to compression formats like H.264/AAC, MPEG4/AAC, or ProRes/LPCM which are natively supported by the QT X v10.3 player.
