I can't view NEF thumbnails in elements 11

Long time Photoshop user, now CS6, trying Elements. All Adobe programs are up to date. How do I view the NEF files in Elements 11 or the Organizer? The thumbnails are there but blank. They do process into Elements fine, but I can't see any picture in the thumbnails. I have searched the web for an answer. Thanks for any help.

On Windows try pressing Ctrl+A (to select all) and then refresh again (Edit >> Update Thumbnails for selected items). If that makes no difference you may need to regenerate the cache.
Help >> System info to find the path to your catalog.
1. Close Organizer.
2. Navigate to C: ProgramData/Adobe/Elements Organizer/Catalogs/My Catalog
3. Find the file - thumb.5.cache
4. Highlight the file and delete it.
5. Re-start Elements Organizer
6. Wait until all thumbnails have been generated.
N.B. ProgramData may be a hidden system file - see link below on how to reveal hidden files:
You could also edit your NEF’s from Bridge CS6. Right-click a thumbnail in Bridge and choose Open With >> Adobe Photoshop Elements.

  • Can't view NEF thumbnails or pictures

    Hi everyone =)
I am using Adobe Photoshop CS6 version 13.0.6 with Camera Raw 8.8.0.397 and Adobe Bridge CS6 version 5.0.2.4 all on OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.
My NEF files (thumbnails & picture) taken with my Nikon D5300 and stored on an external drive (where I can easily preview them outside of Bridge) won't load on Bridge.
I want to see them in Bridge to tag them with keywords!
Could you help me with this issue? What should I do?
    Best,
    Charly

Yes, I can see them (jpg and NEF) in Finder.
I have my pictures organized in folders by year ("2013", "2014", "2015") and then in subfolders by country, and then in sub sub folders by day or event. Which folders do I need to purge? I did my general pictures folder (that contains the "year" folders) and I did the individual "year" folders too. I didn't do the country and day folders because that would be a ridiculous amount of work.
I did what you suggested but it didn't change anything:
    - I can see the jpg files from previous years that I've always seen in Bridge and never had a problem with so far.
    - But I can't see the NEF files or jpg files (recent files) I've converted from NEF to jpg. Even after purging the cache.
Is it because all of my pictures sit in an external drive?
    Any other suggestions?

  • View NEF thumbnails taken with Nikon D600 on my iMac without buying Aperture?

How on Earth can I view NEF/RAW thumbnails taken with Nikon D600 without buying Aperture. My others cameras work fine, I can vuew both my JPEG and NEF now no such luck.

Understand the issue now and came across this thread which I accept may not solve your problem:Apple Raw update brings support for 11 cameras, including D600 and RX100: Digital Photography Review
Although I could open images (D300) in Finder/Preview my issue was I could'nt seem to be able to scroll through the folder so got into the habit of using View NX2. Although that has an email option it does'nt seem to want to email Nefs' due I imagine to file size though I think there are email 'handlers' that will accomodate such file sizes.
According to this thread, Raw support for the D600 is available via the Apps Store but no app info was mentioned: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4355881?start=0&tstart=0
All else failing, I defer to Shootist's comments which seem to concur with those in the last thread mentioned.
Also came across this thread:http://news.cnet.com/8301-13579_3-57539833-37/apple-adds-raw-support-for-nikon-d 600-other-photokina-models/
Sorry I have not been able to have been of much help

  • New Nikon D3100... Can't view NEF files in Bridge?!

    Hi guys,
I have just purchased a Nikon D3100, taken some snaps and tried to view them using Adobe Bridge.
Unfortunately I only get the NEF icon and when I try to open in Photoshop the file is not recognised.
I have attempted to follow numerous discussions and help topics to be able to view my photos but none have seemed to have worked and now Im sure I have files/folders in the wrong place or deleted!!! It is incredibly fustrating!!!
I am an amateur running CS4 and would really appreciate if someone could help me view my photos?
    Jim

I believe your camera was released after Photoshop CS5, which means you will need that version of Photoshop for direct support of your raw files.  However, if you download the current version of the DNG converter you can convert your NEF to DNG files.  Then you will be able to open the raw image data with your version of Photoshop/ACR.

  • Can't View DNG files in Elements 9 Edit Browser

I have Elements 9. I can view DNG files in the Organizer file browser, but not in the Edit file browser. When in Editor, I have to click on the file (or hold my curser over it) to see the file. Is this normal?

Thanks...if it is a Win7 window, then that makes sense. In my mind though, a DNG-compatible Adobe window would have been more user-friendly.

  • Help, I can't view my thumbnails

Hi, I am operating iphoto 6.06 on my 2006 imac. Somehow I must have hit a button but I can't seem to view my photo library in a thumbnail grid anymore. Each photo shows up individually on the screen and they are a large size(as if you have double clicked the thumbnail). It's such a pain to scroll through my library this way. Does anyone know how I can revert my library back to viewing several photos at once? Thanks for your info:-)

Hello...I have the same problem but the sizer did not help me....when i first opened the iphoto it asked me to rebuild the library...i did. Now i can see each image individually but my thumbnails are blank. Can you please help me out??
    Thanks.

  • I can't view video thumbnails for Quicktime Movies?

I noticed on my Macbook that when I mouse over a Quicktime video file, a play icon appears and I can play the video directly from the thumbnail without having to open up Quicktime Player.  This works both on the desktop and in Finder.  On my iMac, this is not possible.  I've looked through the view options, and I have show icon preview selected.  Any suggestions for how to fix this?

Fixed it! Turned out I just needed to enlarge the icon size in view options.  If the icons are too small, then playing thumbnail videos is not possible.

  • Can't open NEF files in element taken by Nikon d7100

I have element 11 and when I want to open a NEF file taken from my Nikon d7100 camera, it says that this camera raw program doesn't take in charge files from this type of camera. It udes to work, but it just stopped. Why?

Do you mean your Elements 11 used to open D7100 files and quit, recently, or that it used to open raw files from another, older camera but won’t open D7100 files?

  • Can't view image thumbnails...

    However, only for one site.
    http://orz.4chan.org/wg/imgboard.html
i can't see any of the image thumbnails, and only this weekend has it started happening. I haven't updated firefox, i haven't changed the theme, I haven't marked the website no images shown or anything, it just randomly started a few days ago. I can see it fine in safari.
    Any ideas?

First the prefs are located in Users/Yourusername/Library/Preferences/. I don't use firefox so don't know exactly what the file will be called. In that folder though, look for things with Firefox or Mozilla in the name. They may be in a folder within that folder.
A reinstall of Firefox will probably remove the program but leave your corrupt prefs behind.
Do other users on your Mac have the same issues?

  • Can't see NEF thumbnails in preview in import window - Nikon D90

    Hi,
I am trying to import photos from my Nikon D90 using File/Import photos from device. When I check the preview option, I see jpegs, but not the NEFs/RAWs.
Any ideas why this would be?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Mike

Importing directly from a camera has some extra quirks. What happens when you use a card reader?
Does your OS show previews in Finder/Explorer?

  • Can't view thumbnails in Bridge

I'm running Windows 7 (64 bit), have downloaded the most recent RAW update (4.6) for CS3.  I'm able to open RAW files and work with them---just can't view the "thumbnail photo" in Bridge---makes it difficult to view and edit files.  What am I missing??  Thanks!

If purging the cache doesn't work, the ACR plug-in (which is called Camera Raw.8bi) may be in the wrong place.
    It should be in:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats
There is another plug-ins folder in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\ Adobe CS3 folder. If the ACR plug-in is in there, delete it.

  • Can't view thumbnails of tif files...

Bridge CS4 was working fine before I installed a new OCR software program. Now I can't view any thumbnails of files saved with a tif or tiff extensions. I checked the file type and it is associated with Photoshop CS4, not sure what has happened or how to fix it.
    Any help would be appreciated...
    ~Vince

Not a computer geek, but this shot tells me the file is not a tif but an omniPage file.
I googled omnipage and came up with this.  Hope it is helpful and you have not already been there, done that.
Looks like this is for XP, but if you have Vista procedure should be similar.
    Question
I've just installed Omnipage Pro.  I've discovered that it has altered
all of the image file associations on my machine. (God, that ****es me
    off when they do that!)
    Answer
Click the "Restore" button in the File Types dialog, and click OK. Then to
fix the association settings, try the fix from here:
    http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm
For all other file types, you may use this tool:
